    Your're right; time is precious. If your TV doesn't connect with audio via an optical port, go ahead and skip to 1:20. And you did this several times. How thoughtful. Thank you.

    Modern TV, old stereo receiver and speakers. The only available "out" ports on the TV are auxillary out and digital optical out. When I first got the television, I had on hand a short cable with an aux jack on one end and red/white RCA jacks on the other. The cable is 10 inches long and I used two RCA couplers to connect it to a longer RCA cable that reachers the receiver. I used that connection to send my TV sound to the receiver. The sound was fine. Thinking it would be an upgrade, I bought a DAC similar to this one in the video and a digital optical cable. I hooked it up and the sound is noticeably lower through the optical line than it is through the aux cable. Both setups connect to the exact same RCA cable that plugs into the input on my stereo receiver - the aux directly with couplers and no DAC and the optical with the DAC in the middle. And yes, the DAC was setup correctly regarding all inputs and outputs. Again, I have sound with both, but the aux sound is louder by quite a bit. Any experiences on what would cause that to be the case?

    Hi man! Awesome video.
    Maybe what I'm trying to do is a little complicated haha
    I have a Smart TV which has Optical Audio Out, as well as RCA.
    I'm trying to connect this TV to a Focusrite Scarlett Audio Interface (which doesn't have optical audio input) in order to get the sound out of my Studio Monitors.
    Could you help me figuring out how should I do this configuration please? I'm a little bit lost.
    Hope you can help me.
    Cheers, man!

    Do you have eArc, my new Samsung tv doesn’t have an optical output, but I have a Bluetooth capable tv . I bought a Bluetooth receiver and paired to my tv problem solved on one hdmi. My cable box has an optical output so I can use that to feed the optical in on my surround sound, Problem solved here too, I bought an d since returned an hdmi with an optical breakout to provide signal but I could not get it to work. My Samsung tv tv defaults to tv speakers which I have turned to zero. I have to pair every time I use the Bluetooth, makes for using my firestick kinda wonky I can’t use video out of my stereo, an unstable picture when going through the Bose surround system video out, my other tv I had for 16 years ad no issue, got a bigger tv.

    Can we connect tv to amp by using headphone jack 3.5 from tv to rca amp? What the different from using tosklink?

    • @SimpleCafeE
      @SimpleCafeE  3 года назад

      You can do that if that’s what you got. The main difference would be that optical can carry five channels if you want to do 5 speaker surround sound. If not, you’re all good with headphone jack.

    • @gempak18
      @gempak18 3 года назад +1

      @@SimpleCafeE i have smart tv and regular amplifier with rca input only. my tv has hdmi arc, optical and microphone jack only. is there any ways to extract 5.1 surround channel from tv to my regular rca amplifier? im using Denn av 709 amplifier. thanks..

    • @SimpleCafeE
      @SimpleCafeE  3 года назад

      If you want surroundsound the amplifier has to have five channels for each individual speaker for it to be true surroundsound. With that out of the way, as far as the ports go, arc and optical are the only ones that can carry five sound channels for surround sound. So the signal may make it to the extractor in five separate channels but once it goes out to your speaker system it will only be two channels because RCA is left and right for a total of two channels and aux also only carries two channels. It’s a tricky scenario.

    I don't understand why newer TVs don't have an analogue audio out.
    There's already a DAC inside the TV for the TV's own amplifier and speakers, it's ridiculous not to be able to tap into that and save the cost of having to buy another DAC and all the faff with the leads.
    It must be the TV companies just being arsy for some reason.

    • @SimpleCafeE
      @SimpleCafeE  Год назад +1

      You're totally right. I think another factor is that people believe optical is the future bc it's digital as if though analog is inferior audio quality. I'm gonna be so bold to make a video about why digital audio isn't necessarily better, more versatile yes but simply better, I don't think so.

    • @lewis72

      @@SimpleCafeE
      Optical digital is just marketing rubbish.
      I have a Technics brochure from 1988 that rattles on about optical digital connections.
      It'll be no better than co-ax digital.
      and yes, depending on compression/sample rates etc, digital isn't necessarily better than analogue.
      Take DAB radio for example. the bit rate is so crap I don't listen to it now. I stick with FM.
      Even the commercial radio stations transmit a worse-quality signal than BBC radio stations.
      Greatest Hits Radio has such a high distortion content compared to BBC radio.
