Our FIRST RV Road Trip to Florida + Pensacola Beach RV Resort + Dinner at Shaggy's Seafood

- We are on the road for the first time in our new 2021 Thor Gemini 23TW and we are so excited! This first road trip will take us from Louisiana to Florida. We are actually heading to Tampa, but decide to take our time and make the trip in two days with a stop over in Pensacola Beach. Since this is our first road trip, we have to commemorate it with pictures in front of the 'welcome' signs as we cross over into each state... Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida.
Once in Florida, we head to our stop for the night at the Pensacola Beach RV Resort... which is right on the beach! And there is a lot to do in this area. On the drive in, I spotted Shaggy's. This is a great restaurant that has locations along the Gulf Coast and specializes in fresh Gulf of Mexico seafood. We HAD to go eat here and it was worth the walk in the cold to get there! We had a great first night in the RV and get up and hit the road in the morning.... after I walk around and show this great RV park.

Welcome to RV'ing. Followed you guys from your cruising days.
Once you HAVE an RV, you really start to notice just how many there are on the road.
One STRONG suggestion for your RV'ing journey. DON'T pull over on the side of the interstate, or any other road that doesn't have a specific pullout, to take pictures! You'll be amazed at how many accidents happen that way. Good luck and hoping you to have many great adventures RV'ing.
One of my most favorite things about our camper: I always have my own stuff: my own toilet, my own fridge, my own tea, etc. And we have countless memories of lunches at the dinette on our journeys =) Also, I'm sure you've figured this out already, but even on a one-night stop, deploying your stabilizers will minimize rocking from wind & walking inside the rig. And one final note: if you haven't discovered this yet: an RV park tends to be a paved lot with hook-ups, where as a campground usually has more nature, i.e. grass, trees, etc. So far, you're doing a great job for RV noobs! 👍🏻
As a tip, there's a hotel just about a block from the RV park y'all stayed at which is AWESOME!! It's called Paradise in and also has its own open air bar space with a stage for live music. My crew stayed there a few years ago and it was GREAT!! It would definitely be a good fit if you want to hit Pensacola Beach with folks who aren't RVing.
Belated Welcome to Florida . I live on the west coast about an hour northwest of Tampa by the beautiful Gulf of Mexico and 5 miles north on US - 19 from Tarpon Springs , Florida . Wish I had known you were going to the Tampa RV show I would've loved to have met up with y'all . Pensacola is a big Military town .
I was wondering if you could do a video on the financial process for the purchase of the RV. I’ve been looking and I’m amazed at the variances of prices on similar Rv models. I had come across MHSRV prior and like the prices, but had never gone through the process. I don’t need your specific numbers but information like finance rates, down payment, number of years financed. Etc would be great information. I’m pretty set on going through MHSRV thanks for the earlier video on how that went. Love your rig.

Buy a small heater at Walmart for your Rv! Save the propane! If you have a site with electrical and hook ups use the electricity cause it's included. Plug your heater in and it keeps you warm all day and night.
Next time you go to Pensacola beach make sure to stop by Paradise Inn & Grill for a Bushwacker! So delicious!

I have vacationed to Mobile and the city is amazing. The U.S.S. Alabama is even bigger once you get on the inside. A good spot to eat in Gulf Shores is The Hangout. Keep the RV videos coming!

Here in Aus we have Been told no International travel until at least 2022..We love travelling and especially cruising, no cruises either at the moment, so I have been enjoying watching your earlier stories and your cruises, Alaska is what we want to do some day, my eyes popped when I saw you bought a RV 😳😳as that is what we are thinking, I watched every second when you picked it up and showed us all through, and your travels in it so far, just awesome 😎.

We had some snow flurries in Tucson, AZ, today. But I used to live in Minnesota, where 25 degrees in the winter was warm.

I'm not an RV'er, but some family members are and if you haven't already you should check out Passport America or Thousand Trails (and there may be others, but like I said, not an actual RV'er) -- but they are subscription services that give huge discounts at certain eligible RV parks. Might be a way to save some $$$ on your travels.

Gotta be careful driving thru "underground" tunnels. Some of them are illegal to drive thru with onboard propane. You could get a hefty fine. We have a tunnel near here (Boston, MA) that goes under buildings and RV's with onboard propane or hazardous materials are not allowed. There are RV GPS programs/apps that will map routes so you can avoid tunnels like that.

The beach is a ghost town because hurricane sally took out our main bridge into Gulf Breeze, it’s a nightmare to get out there if you live in Pensacola. Glad you enjoyed your visit, y’all stay safe on the road!
I knew a bridge was out because we had to detour, but I didn't know why. We had a great time and will be back.
😱 under water tunnel😳! Other then the tunnel what a fun trip. Looking forward to these adventures!
The tunnel is cool! It only lasts about a minute but we like going through it :)
Thanks for the shaggy's recommendation! I'll be passing through both Mobile and Pensacola in May and have made a note to stop at one of them for crab cakes!! Panama city is my destination and I've been looking at restaurant menus Most crab cake apps are $20 or more. I'll get my fix at shaggy's for 13.99 :) based on your recommendation
There is a Shaggy’s in Biloxi, MS too that might be a good stop depending on which way you are going.
@@EECCTravels YES! I saw that. We're planning to overnight in Biloxi, so we may go there for dinner and live music or karaoke (if there is any) or stop for lunch in Pensacola the next day on the way to PCB. In my original post I said Mobile, but meant Biloxi :)

So good to see the route we travelled the other way around about 8 years ago. Somehow we drove past Pensacola, why? It looks nice! I wonder, did you pre book the campsite? It seems like its neccesary...
I did but just a few days in advance. There were only a couple of empty spots there.

I had to laugh at Jason eating a french fry with gloves on, while a woman stood in the back ground in khaki shorts & a navy Shaggy's sweatshirt on. Dinner looked delicious. The campground looked very inviting, & the beach looked welcoming. Thanks for sharing.

Wow I live in Lake Charles La. and have for the past 30 years. I was born in South Ga. I have taken that route down I-10 a hundred times or more. Secondly my wife and I just bought our 1st tow vehicle (GMC YUCON) and are going to buy a bumper pull RV here in the next few months. Hope to run into you guys someday. Love the journey!

Omg I watched every single cruising video you did in preparation for our one and only cruise (to Alaska) that NEVER HAPPENED. My husband and I are both nurses and have worked NONSTOP for the last year and we actually paid cash for a motorhome last month to take on the road travel nursing together. Anyway...we live in Alabama off of I-10 -the last exit before you get to Florida (the one right after Buccees). So glad you got to come through (but 1 thing-the tunnel between Baldwin and Mobile is NOT cool when you live here.) We'll let that slide though--I'm just happy you're doing videos. Congrats on your RV purchase!

From my short time researching the two models, I realized they're the same, like the Winnebago View and Navion. Why did you choose the Gemini over the Compass? Thank you.

I forgot something my Family live in pensacola Florida. And my husband and I just love going to Florida- Bama one of our favorite places to go.
I remember this one. I’m like y’all I’m from Selma Alabama and I don’t like the cold. And now we live in Dallas. Georgia where we do have the cold weather and some day’s it’s just to cold for me.
I never carried more than 1/3 tank of fresh water. We never boon-docked, so only needed enough for day trips. Used RV Park water.

You all shuold use the 3:30 rule as far as deiving. Drive 31/2 hours per day but looking to park for the night by 3:30 pm.

Agree small 1500 watt heater should keep it warm most nights, and if hardly any water at all in fresh water tank, you can skip hooking up water for overnites between destinations
Now that you have your braces off, be sure to wear your retainers at night!!
I had braces put on my teeth 38 years ago when I was 32 yrs old .
@@bobshaw4063 I had braces as a teenager and then had Invisalign braces at 62! That's what happens when your first orthodontist didn't say wear your retainer. Now I wear top and bottom retainers at night. My teeth look great!

How’s the noise factor-from outside? Is it pretty well insulated?
You should not stop along the side of the road. More people are killed along the side of the road. Unless its emergency most states do not allow. Take your time on your trip.
Love your camper! We're heading out on our first long trip mid-March (tow behind) and had no idea some welcome centers have dump tanks. Thanks for that helpful tip!

Just an FYI...you were actually on the bay side (Santa Rosa Sound) of the island in Pensacola not the beach side...the Gulf is across the street...we love Pensacola/Navarre area...it is our favorite... especially with the Blue Angels...have fun!!!

Since your from Alexandrai , La. I was wondering if you know or know of a hand surgeon Dr . Garay Porubsky ? I was friends with his brother Richard when we were both stationed @ McConnell Air Force Base , Wichita , Kansas back in the early 1970's ? He was from Topeka , Kansas & I use to spend a lot of weekends and holidays with his immediate family members in the house he grew up in in Topeka , Kansas . He was one of 7 children . He had 4 brothers & his twin sisters
Instead of walking in the cold call UBER or LYFT for rides . Di you have a water pressure regulator to connect to your water hose in case the campsite has high water pressure so your RV water pipes don't blow out fro high water pressure & also a surge supressor you hook up to the power pedestal on your campsite ?

Congrats, enjoy your RV! If you haven't already, find a group on -line that own and know details of repair and maintenance of that type rig, careful PM ("Preventive Maintenance") will make a huge difference.

I love y'all, I live in Mississippi, my mother lived in Alabama, my mother n law lives in Louisiana...lol. I am looking for a van RV and I believe I have decided on this one. I am 54, retired with a 5 year old daughter. We want to travel, I have a son in San Antonio, a son in North Carolina, son I South Mississippi, family in Memphis, TN and a best friend in Ohio....this would be so awesome never be a burden on visiting....I am so excited thanks for the videos.

We ate at Shaggy's in Biloxi. The music was great, the ambiance, we ordered oysters and beer and had a bill of over $100. Still hungry, we stopped at Wendy's on the way home. Wanted to like it more.
Oh dang! I have eaten there several times and never had a bill like that.

Just to let you know. I'm a professional truck driver and if a cop sees you pulled over to take the picture of the state sign they will give you a ticket. That's an emergency parking lane. I've seen many campers getting tickets like that.
