  • Myofascial release technique for chronic neck and shoulder pain. Tightness in the pectoralis major keeps the shoulders in a rounded forward position, leading to a host of issues. Rounded forward posture places a strain on the muscles of the upper back and shoulders, limiting the range of motion of the rotator cuff leading to discomfort in the shoulder itself. This dysfunctional position of the shoulders an also cause the head and neck to protrude forward leading to pain and stiffness in the neck. The most common causes of tight pecs are related to activities of daily life. Typing at a desk, driving, carrying a heavy purse or baby and emotional stress. These trigger points, the tension itself must be addressed and deactivated restoring length to the pecs, allowing your shoulders back into a healthy position. If you have chronic discomfort in your shoulders and neck give this release a try!

    You are a lifesaver! I am finally on the road to recovery after several years of mystery illnesses. I just discovered today that the strong heart palpitations I experience while falling asleep are due to the trigger point I have in my mid-right pectoralis major. I knew it was sore there (from overuse at work), but had no idea it was affecting me in so many ways. In addition to the palpitations, I've also been struggling with my diaphragm not working at night and my right arm going numb and tingling. Earlier in the week my doctor and I finally figured out that those two problems were from shortened scalene muscles (and probably sternocleidomastoid) pulling my ribs up and pinching the nerves. We were still stumped on the heart palpitations. This video has been so informative. I had been watching a few of your other videos earlier today when I finally solved the mystery.

    Thank you for just saying “carrying a baby ...” I’m a mom of 3 with a 14 month old. I’ve basically somehow learned about muscles and joints and sports injuries by searching my symptoms since having the baby!! I’m not an athlete. But every single helpful video or article I’ve found about rounded shoulders and reasons for tight shoulders, pecs, etc... has been geared toward power lifting or athletes. I’ve seen A LOT in the last year, but YOU are the first to acknowledge PARENTING. :) Thank you!

      Kai Simon YESSSS 😭 thank you for officially saying this!! I know I feel it, but I literally have never heard that comparison. And for some reason I feel like most people might think it ridiculous to make that comparison... and therefore take mothering pain and injuries not as seriously at times.

    • @anotherunboxingchannelasmr7920

      Kai Simon meant to add, along with the heavy lifting, the sometimes awkward positions while lifting. Terrible posture...

    I learned about myofascial release from running but I wish I had known about it when I was a young swimmer. This is the one thing that I don't think has crossed over enough to competitive swimming and it is so important for pain management and injury avoidance.

    what sorcery is this? this is actually helping me increase my range of shoulder stretch! I'm just a little worried that i'm probably placing the ball incorrectly sometimes. would really help to point where exactly to place the ball by showing it. I'm dumb with explanation. Thank you btw!

    I just discovered your channel and subscribed. I've been dealing with rotator cuff pain off and on for a few years. I work a desk job and do lots of typing. Thanks for sharing this information. I can hardly move today but I can't wait to try these.

      Hi, dunya. I was told several things: bursitis then rotator cuff syndrome. I ended up going to physical therapy and upon evaluation she told me that I had "very loose shoulders" and that they can move in and out of the socket easily. My primary care doc told me that probably had to do with fibromyalgia.

    • @qtkira33
      @qtkira33 8 лет назад

      Thanks dunya! I keep the sheet with the exercises from therapy on a wall by my desk to remind me to do them. I guess I will need to be mindful of this for the rest of my life.

    Thank you Kai for this video. Very useful and I see that it will help me. I had a shoulder injury where my shoulder hitting the pavement from a skateboard fall. My whole shoulder area swollen almost 3 months and couple of weeks ago. My shoulder pain is persistent even with physio therapy. I am wondering how this swelling can be reduced along with the pain which literally keeps me up most of the night. Can you suggest specific set of exercises that I can do to help this situation. Thank You Kai

So I did the pec release and my left arm started tingling and going numb and I believe, I was having trouble breathing.(?)

    Great advice from a classy, intelligent person. Kai, I'm wondering, I've got this from doing benches, and it's pulling everything forward and affecting my right shoulder. I've used bands, hooked on a door knob, which I face, then pull the bands backward with my arms straight, as if I'm working my rear deltoid. I'll try what you said. I can even sleep on it, though and I'm wondering if your approach pretty much always works, in your experience. Thanks, C. Btw, you've got what it takes to have your own show I think, something national.
