    I'd say the entry intermediate 3.0 level is quite a frustrating level where you can still "beat yourself" through unforced errors and lack of consistency. Typical level to feel beat by blockers and pushers when you are trying your best to play with the correct technique.

    • @TheRob2D
      @TheRob2D 2 года назад +12

      Amen. Very hard to improve when guys are just pushing junk balls all day to get the win. They just drag you down. And you don't win the match nor do you learn anything. Horrible.

      @TheRob2D a 3.0 lacks the technique to put a junk ball away. Once your groundstrokes get good enough you will relish a junk ball to put it away.

    • @cam1210
      @cam1210 Год назад +1

      @@rolandharris2706 Agree. I'm one of those people that seems to be stuck at 3.5 despite striving for technique. I have a very imbalanced game...my serve is well above the 3.5 level purely because I've been able to put years of solo practice into it (were talking 4.5 level). My forehand/backhand is probably a 4.0 level yet any attacking mid-court shot or volley is firmly 3.0-3.5 level. This means I can't get past a 3.5 level as too many volleys are either not put away sufficiently for the opponent to have another chance, stuffed into the net or hit long. Most frustrating when opponents just about manage to block a serve back which should be an easy winner but you have no confidence to put the ball away.

    Yeah except due to level holding (appealing when they get moved up) and self-rating, we are now in a situation where 3.0-3.5 can be top level college players. Yes, this is actually happening in my region. All the ratings here are deflated. Advanced/intermediate can't win at 3.0. We have 3.0 who are UTR 8 (since you can't mess with your UTR). definitely depends on the highschool.. When I was in highschool I played #1 singles my Jr and Senior Year and #2 singles my Freshman and Sophmore year.. and there would be teams full of players that I felt were more like a 1.5-2.5 and there were teams that were Much more advanced and I'd say around 4.0-4.5 with players that you knew were approaching 5.0-5.5 so just the fact that a person made Varsity doesn't guarantee their level.. my team for example Freshman and Sophmore year was Stacked with no one under a 4.0 and most closer to 4.5+ my junior and Senior Years I'd say a majority of the varsity team were more like 3.5-4.0. Regionals felt like a cakewalk until the finals when I'd get to the guy that actually had game.. Conference(To qualify for State) however was more competitive..

    • @tnbbcp
      @tnbbcp 2 года назад +3

      Sorry to necro, but I’ll take a crack at answering your question. I’m currently a junior in highschool at a AAA school (1200-1300 people) and play varsity tennis.
      I live in an area where tennis isn’t really that big, so we have a pretty large spread of skill on our teams. I’m our first singles, and I’m probably around 4.0 to maybe 4.5. Second is around a 3.5-4.0, and our third singles is probably around a 3.0-3.5 and the majority of the team is around 2.5-3.0. I’ve played teams that were almost entirely 3.0ish players, and I’ve played some that were terrible outside of their first singles (some solid 4.5 players at first with everyone else being 3.5 and lower). On the average team in a region that isn’t extremely competitive (so not somewhere like CA), you’ll see a pretty high level first singles (think 4.0-5.0), decent second and third singles (3.5-4.0), and ok doubles (3.0ish). You’ll see some variation, but that’s the normal range.
      However, the more competitive the area, the higher the general skill level. I live in the rural south east of the US, so we don’t have competitive training or the like for tennis nearby, and my school team gets basically no funding. If you went to an area with better facilities and such (Big cities like Atlanta, or basically anywhere in California) you’ll find higher levels of play.

But sadly a lot of people also fill out the forms incorrectly and lie on the questions. All you have to do is file a grievance and the USTA will review the questionnaire and if they lied they will get suspended and bumped. But if you dont say anything the USTA can't do anything.

    Lol, I still have no idea on which level I should play in the US (given there will be wny opportunity).
    You will never hear one single clean pop from my strokes. You will hear two. One ist the actual stroke, the second one is the ball breaking the sound barrier, which I permanently try to do.
    In Germany you would not be given the opportunity to self estimate your level. Enlist for some kind of tournament or join a club, play the league, get some points for every victory, improve your ranking and be happy.
    Our system has a major weakness though: mediocre players with high rate of participation can get higher ranks than good players who don't play tournaments or league on a regular basis. So the ranking can be a kind of a black box.

There is fun and ratings = zero fun. Maybe to describe yourself, if you have no one to play with. When I played competitively, that was the problem. I just wanted to play without the rating crap or pressure of winning. Unfortunately, you need another human meat bag on the other side of the net. They do need technology, that is more advanced than modern tennis robot ball machines and I don't have to deal with the egos, cheating, annoying and other humans. That's my brand of tennis. If only I could play with myself. (Pun intended)

      I just played in a team event in the southeast where I was one of very few 4.5's and I did not play college. Everyone else was 5.0, maybe a few 5.5's all over age 35 and they were mostly former D1 college players. I actually played singles against a former Australian Open junior champion...it did not go well for me, but it was fun.

    In tennis one doesn’t necessarily have to have traditional athletic skills. There are many many players who play well have a high rating but are not necessarily athletic. Tennis is one game that can be acquired with little athletic skill. Craftiness and thinking is an attribute along with lots of practice and you can be a very good tennis player and win a lot but this type of player may not be athletic at all.

      Depends on level man. You have to be pretty physically athletic to perform at a 4.0 lvl. Impossible for a standard person or a non-athletic person to reach 4.5. I also saw your post from 8 months ago so either you are playing at a low level and don't fully understand or your trolling
