Powerful!! Composed at the peak of his first creative period and immediately banned by the Soviet authorities because of its strong Christian message. This, among the general pervailing conditions in Soviet Estonia, sent Pärt into a deep crisis. But tthe rest, as they say, is history.
What a superb piece by the world's best living composer! If you also enjoyed the stunning entrances of the Bach prelude, check out Part's similar use of Tchaikovsky in the Second Symphony - one of the most emotional moments in his whole great body of work. But the director really should have avoided the corny camerawork, as if the intense drama of the music somehow wasn't enough.
I love orchestral music, though I often have to struggle to appreciate modern music. It seems to me that this is the perfect application of its chaos and dissonance. The struggle between violence and oppression on one hand and faith and peace on the other is profound. I don't remember the last time I was moved to tears by something like this.
¡Ojalá vinieran a Barcelona! Arvo Pärt sabe tocarme el alma en varias de sus obras, así como lo consiguen Monteverdi, Bach, Bruckner, Mahler y Beethoven. Gracias, Allen Schantz por compartir este fragmento de divinidad.
5:38-42 The plain instruction is: Suffer any injury that can be borne, for the sake of peace, committing your concerns to the Lord's keeping. And the sum of all is that Christians must avoid disputing and striving. If any say, flesh and blood cannot pass by such an affront, let them remember, that flesh and blood shall not inherit the kingdom of God; and those who act upon right principles will have most peace and comfort. (Matthew Henry's Commentary)
Dude, when that piano came in after the chaos I started bawling, no joke. It's insane how music can touch your soul in such ways. Wow. Just wow.
what minute? thanks for sharing that vulnerable moment.

A piece for the ages and all of mankind.
¡ Que grandes son esospequeños países como Estonia ,tan cerca del peligro y que a pesar de todo, no han perdido el Alma !
It is incredibly powerful! And also reminds me of René Girard's theory of violence.
A true masterpiece of modern music.

De nada, "Swotwines Barcelona". Gloria a Dios por su regalo de música y por el regalo de su Hijo. ¡Feliz Navidad!
FANTASTICO. DIREZIONE stupenda.
Harrison Ford, in addition to being a renowned actor, also pursued conducting.

A modern masterwork, academical, Bu I miss the the frequency touching my soul.
How can the engagement of the Bach C major Prelude fail to touch the soul? It moves me to tears, especially on its return.
Masterpiece!!!
Potente, estatica😢🥺
❤
Credo et dubio , Belief and doubt seems more fitting.
Great!
Maybe the most powerful musical work about christian faith and human condition at all, and so less views?
Agreed, and I'm Christian. Pärt is the best 21st century christian academic composer. He's the 21st century bach.
Transcendence
I dunno - better than Philip Glass, I guess?
