With 150 HP and multiple attacks each turn, the Shadow Queen was one...tough...boss. I just finished the final chapter of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door recently, and when fighting the Shadow Queen, I died twice and defeated her on my third attempt. And here I am thinking Bowser was the number one toughest boss in all of the Mario world. The Shadow Queen makes him and Grodus look like Crazee Dayzees; battling those two was but a walk in the park. And if that's not enough, I still have to battle Bonetail in the Pit of 100 Trials. It would be my first time battling him, but I know that he has 200 HP, and I have yet to see what his attacks are and how powerful they are! Wish me luck!!

Not only is this boss ridiculously powerful, every time you die you have to sit through a 1-2 minute unskipable cutscene, a mock fight (oh, you can die here) and then another cutscene before getting to the real thing. It's REALLY obnoxious.
And can you believe that after defeating the Shadow Queen, you only get one frickin' Star Point? One! After all that hard work. Aside from bosses, especially Grodus and Bowser, weaker enemies can give you multiple Star Points before your level increases, and the toughest boss in the game only gives you one? How laughable.
Cyyberslam8 He is, and I've defeated him!! You can best the Pit of 100 Trials and defeat Bonetail if you have a good strategy. It just takes determination, courage, and above all, having faith in yourself that you can do it. :)))
Musicmakesmehappy I just used the danger Mario strategy. Not the cheap kind where you get the golden pass card and by infinite danger p ups and d ups at the casino, I'm talking about the one where you just use the ones you've collected throughout the game and the few at the shop. At the point I got to floor 80, which is where it actually starts to get tough for me, I had gotten so good at super-guards that I swept through. Then when I reached floor 100 I decided to just go for a regular guard with damage dodge on for the first turn. That's when I got scared, even with taking half damage and guarding with d dodge for -2 damage it still took 4 of my 5 health. I immediately switched to koops and used shell guard. Then using my attack power of 9 per one jump, 18 for a double, which due to bonetail was only 7 per jump. I used the crystal stars to raise my attack and spammed guard shell. Along with using power jump I defeated bonetail. Sorry this comments so long and also 8 months late I just wanted to tell you that.
Martriness Your strategy sounds very, very nice, and I've also heard from others that you can equip multiples of the same Badges that increase your Attack Power to defeat enemies easily and quickly in the Pit of 100 Trials. Now, besides the strategy you just laid out for me, what other "Danger Mario" strategies are there? Perhaps I shall consider using one.
I love paper Mario the thousand year door I play all the time. it is such a good game it has a good story to it and everything. My favorite boss is shadow Queen here. Love the Game!!!!!!!!!

This certainly is a unique boss. "Alright...this is pretty straight-forward..." "Ok...getting tough, but I can do this!!!" *ShadowQueen absorbs the souls of your audience "O_o!!!"
I had her at about 50 HP. I ran out of healing items, I was in the danger condition, I had hardly any FP left, I was poisoned and Vivian was dead. Then all of a sudden, I nailed the Shine Sprite Bingo. That was 1 of the greatest moments in my gaming history.

You can always play flash games online like the Epic Battle Fantasy quad-franchise and Sonny 1&2 for those of you lusting for full-scale turn-taking RPG's. Quite blamming at SPM and PM:SS; SPM tried something new and won, and even Sticker Star gave handhelds a pry at their series franchise! With such a... portable... piece of... uh... um... crap... ._.
Out of all the final bosses in the paper mario series, Shadow queen is the hardest one to beat, but she is also my most favorite because it gives me a challenge and its really fun to fight her.
all shadow queen battle music are so badass!the first one is kinda creepy and scary but its an awesome battle music! now the second one is really scary! but my favorite one is the last battle music! it gets u all pumped up for an intense battle! i always get excited when i play this game cuz i cant wait for the last battle with the shadow queen! lol the song is badass enough said! 5/5
@megakirby9 yeah it was between 1 and 4, I had honestly forgot which one. And what I mean by underarmed is that I had no healing items in my arsenal or very few at the most so if the Crystal Stars couldn't help, which I had a tendency to burn out, I was screwed. 2nd play through, it was a whole ot simpler
@DarkShadowman67 One thing to be aware of is that you will get a slot roll near the start of the fight; this will ALWAYS be a shine sprite, which means full star power. Kick off the fight with a Supernova immediately, and possibly another one after you're topped off. I LOVE to finish this fight with a Supernova for added epicness. Go all out with your most powerful attacks; Spring Jump is a winner.
I manage to 100% this game with the double damage badge nearly the entire way through and i just BARELY beat the Shadow Queen on my first try. Definitely one of my proudest gaming achievements ever.
god, i remember when i played paper mario 1, it was sooooo good, then i played ppm:tyd, such a change! graffics, story, abilities, partners, effects, music, god, so good! am a student at fullsail where i study how to make animations and games, and this game was one of the best ones ever that inspired me to pursue this career!
Yea, the battle system was what really made the game. Equipping badges to suit the battle with low number based strategies. You had to be sure you were gonna be able to pull off the action commands too to see your victory. TTYD was definitely a nice polish up on this battle system, then they tried to do something new, which I think they didnt need to but I do respect their effort.
the first time i enetered the chamber of the shadow queen and i heard this song i got so pumped... she's so evil... she could be one of the greatest mario bosses of all time... her true power faze just got me so pumped into sending this witch back into the pits from which she came!!!! For this thingy I just used power bounce and jump charge. If you're really good, you can do something like 20-30 or even 40-50 damage per turn, though it DOES take a long time and the Shadow Queen totally destroys your HP if you wait too long...
Yea thats very true, There was already a 3-D environment in the 2 first games, not only that but what really brought out the paper idea was the fact that you were a 2-dimantional Mario IN a 3-D world (or more simply, paper, and being 3-D all the time you were able to see it clearly) Super paper mario more or less felt like a typical platforming mario game with RPG attributes and chibi art style, until you used 3-D mode. Though I'll still say I love SPM I just love the first 2 more.

Though, I guess the description "younger, etc" would fit towards someone who wanted ultimate power, probably for revenge.

I don't know why, but for SOME REASON, whenever I play through the game for the first time, the bosses which are SUPPOSED to be hard I can breeze through, but when I look up videos on the said game and learn how they're _supposed_ to be difficult, I end up getting destroyed. This boss, the Emperor Ing in Metroid Prime 2, Isaac/The Blue Baby in The Binding of Isaac are all prime examples.
My heart also stopped and kept me staring at the TV when I died against Shadoo (as Dark Mario. For the next hour I was completly quiet and had this crazy look on my face XD
Man this is a cool boss. The fight is easy with items but without.... Boo sheet's will protect you from the charged attacks. And various other items are used when hp or fp go down. Wasn't too hard with all the jelly ultra's but i can't imagine a no-item run. (sorry if i made any mistakes, its been too long since i've played this game)
I really have to get around to playing this game. for me paper mario on the 64 has way more replay value than it probably should for me, I just friggin love it.
Paper mario 1 and 2. Favorite games ever. Don't even talk to me about super paper mario though. Some of the most memorable characters, and music. next to pokemon Gold and silver.
@AzureDarkGod Yeah. But when you think about it, you need to go though 150 hp right before it, unless you level up in between the Bowser and Grodus battles.
3. Campbell: Snake, it appears the support from all of your friends has destroyed her defenses. It's time to use everything you've got to take her out once and for all. It seems she's still as powerful as ever, so it won't be easy. She still attacks with lightning bolts, and she'll slap you with her hands. She'll use her dead hands to pull you into the shadows and unleash a string of attacks on you. She'll use her Shadow Wave, and her breath attack will affect you in different ways.
@DarkShadowman67 There really are no tips just go all out on her.Use all your items because you won't need them after(obviously)and after the cut scene with the Crystal Stars a little bit after you'll always get a bingo with the shine sprites(they recover everything)so before that I would use Supernova or Art attack and use the power lift as well.That will help a lot. And have both Vivian and Bobbery upgraded twice and use them.Also one of her attacks she powers up USE VIVIAN TO HIDE!! 12 damage
this boss is probably one of the toughest bosses i've ever fought. i just barely managed to win it on my first try though. ms. mowz's defense-breaking slap saved me from certain death.
my idea about that is that when mario destroyed the shadow queen, she left a piece of her soul inside before dissapearing, and that piece of soul takes over marios mind
I totally agree. The story is probably the best part, and it REALLY sux about the gameplay change. That is the one reason why I played up to the last chapter, and haven't touched the game since. Well, that, and the fact that there's just too many side-quests. SERIOUS BUSINESS.
@wboone3 well heres exactly what i did during that fight... first i used my strongest special attack, than the bombs. I think her helath was half way down at that point (plus everytime I leveled up in the game I ONLY raised my health so i had like 200 HP)
@BIueFalcon You're not seeing what I'm saying. No matter how many star points are obtained, they're useless. The reason why they're useless is because after the Shadow Queen, the game ends, and you have to continue from BEFORE the Shadow Queen. Therefore, it's like that star point was never obtained. So, would you rather lose 1 star point, or 100?
@Ultimafire1258 And technically this is the Shadow Queen possessing Peach. Personally, I don't mind having an Evil Mario (I'm excluding the Shadow Mario in Mario Sunshine because that was just Bowser Jr.), I mean we have a Dark Link and a Dark Samus, why not a Dark Mario.
That is if he's possessed. And also if you play as the same characters as you did in the third. Also, it's that exact order when they all "died" in Chapter 8 of Super Paper Mario- Bowser, Peach and then Luigi.
Here's a good way to beat her for those having difficulty. Get a lot of Flower Points (at least 50) and have Bobbery out and keep on using Bob-ombast over and over again. Then, have Mario use Supernova, which depending on how long it takes for your star power gage to fill up, you can use it again. There is a point in the battle where everything (your HP, FP and Star Points) get maxed out and you get them back. I'd just say not to use any items until after that happens. I hope this helped.
Many people say that the 3-D power made the landscapes seem plain (Terra pun intentional. :D) and murdered the ideal that Super looked at its best when in 2D; provided the art would continue to look good flattened; and so whenever Mario switches planes, it's "painful" to experience. It DOES indeed feel like going backstage (RPG style of the other PM games as a play on words also a pun. XD) behind sharp molecules, but this kind of feeling is unique and even fun. SPM tried something new, and won.
I remember being so freaked out when I saw the 200 HPs the Shadow Queen had, while the most we had seen so far was like 99 HPs with Bowser. Surprised the hell outta me XD

If you know the uber strategy you can sweep both The Pit of 100 Trials and Bonetail. I should know, I've used thew uber strategy in the pit.

Why do I always see that horrifying shadow when I listen to this music?

This was so good including the shadow queen , They could of made a prequeal to this one , about before the shadow queen .
I don't know why, but for SOME REASON, whenever I play through the game for the first time, the bosses which are SUPPOSED to be hard I can breeze through, but when I look up videos on the said game and learn how they're _supposed_ to be difficult, I end up getting destroyed. This boss, the Emperor Ing in Metroid Prime 2, Isaac/The Blue Baby in The Binding of Isaac are all prime examples.
My heart also stopped and kept me staring at the TV when I died against Shadoo (as Dark Mario. For the next hour I was completly quiet and had this crazy look on my face XD
Man this is a cool boss.
The fight is easy with items but without....
Boo sheet's will protect you from the charged attacks.
And various other items are used when hp or fp go down.
Wasn't too hard with all the jelly ultra's but i can't imagine a no-item run.

I really have to get around to playing this game. for me paper mario on the 64 has way more replay value than it probably should for me, I just friggin love it.

Paper mario 1 and 2. Favorite games ever. Don't even talk to me about super paper mario though. Some of the most memorable characters, and music. next to pokemon Gold and silver.

@AzureDarkGod Yeah. But when you think about it, you need to go though 150 hp right before it, unless you level up in between the Bowser and Grodus battles.

Campbell: Snake, it appears the support from all of your friends has destroyed her defenses. It's time to use everything you've got to take her out once and for all. It seems she's still as powerful as ever, so it won't be easy. She still attacks with lightning bolts, and she'll slap you with her hands. She'll use her dead hands to pull you into the shadows and unleash a string of attacks on you. She'll use her Shadow Wave, and her breath attack will affect you in different ways.
@DarkShadowman67 There really are no tips just go all out on her.Use all your items because you won't need them after(obviously)and after the cut scene with the Crystal Stars a little bit after you'll always get a bingo with the shine sprites(they recover everything)so before that I would use Supernova or Art attack and use the power lift as well.That will help a lot. And have both Vivian and Bobbery upgraded twice and use them.Also one of her attacks she powers up USE VIVIAN TO HIDE!! 12 damage
this boss is probably one of the toughest bosses i've ever fought. i just barely managed to win it on my first try though. ms. mowz's defense-breaking slap saved me from certain death.

as i remember, this boss is rated as one of the hardest Mario Bosses even today... :o
my idea about that is that when mario destroyed the shadow queen, she left a piece of her soul inside before dissapearing, and that piece of soul takes over marios mind
I totally agree. The story is probably the best part, and it REALLY sux about the gameplay change. That is the one reason why I played up to the last chapter, and haven't touched the game since. Well, that, and the fact that there's just too many side-quests. SERIOUS BUSINESS.
@wboone3 well heres exactly what i did during that fight... first i used my strongest special attack, than the bombs. I think her helath was half way down at that point (plus everytime I leveled up in the game I ONLY raised my health so i had like 200 HP)

@BIueFalcon You're not seeing what I'm saying. No matter how many star points are obtained, they're useless. The reason why they're useless is because after the Shadow Queen, the game ends, and you have to continue from BEFORE the Shadow Queen.
Therefore, it's like that star point was never obtained. So, would you rather lose 1 star point, or 100?
Guess who will be digging out her gamecube from the pit of her room to replay this game now.
I just tend to say lol if anything makes me chuckle atleast a bit. And yea, I agree with you SMP does have alot of substance to it.
@Ultimafire1258 And technically this is the Shadow Queen possessing Peach. Personally, I don't mind having an Evil Mario (I'm excluding the Shadow Mario in Mario Sunshine because that was just Bowser Jr.), I mean we have a Dark Link and a Dark Samus, why not a Dark Mario.

That is if he's possessed. And also if you play as the same characters as you did in the third. Also, it's that exact order when they all "died" in Chapter 8 of Super Paper Mario- Bowser, Peach and then Luigi.
Here's a good way to beat her for those having difficulty. Get a lot of Flower Points (at least 50) and have Bobbery out and keep on using Bob-ombast over and over again. Then, have Mario use Supernova, which depending on how long it takes for your star power gage to fill up, you can use it again. There is a point in the battle where everything (your HP, FP and Star Points) get maxed out and you get them back. I'd just say not to use any items until after that happens. I hope this helped.
Many people say that the 3-D power made the landscapes seem plain (Terra pun intentional. :D) and murdered the ideal that Super looked at its best when in 2D; provided the art would continue to look good flattened; and so whenever Mario switches planes, it's "painful" to experience.
It DOES indeed feel like going backstage (RPG style of the other PM games as a play on words also a pun. XD) behind sharp molecules, but this kind of feeling is unique and even fun. SPM tried something new, and won.
I remember being so freaked out when I saw the 200 HPs the Shadow Queen had, while the most we had seen so far was like 99 HPs with Bowser. Surprised the hell outta me XD
When you're low on health, use Vivian's Veil so you don't get hit, and heal. That's what I did, and it helped a lot.
when i first got to the boss, i was nine. after the shadow queen appeared, i couldn't sleep that night.
