- If your oil temperature is not reading in your BMW, you may need to replace your sensor found in your oil pan. Other signs of the sensor going bad is the oil level light is illuminated yellow for 10 seconds upon startup. If your oil level is indeed correct via dip stick reading, you may need to replace your sensor.
Replacing the oil level/ temperature sensor on the E46 3 series BMW is very simple and just a few extra steps beyond an oil change. I'll show you how to replace the sensor as well as the oil change, and oil service light reset.
nice quick and easy to understand DIY! Thank you.
Great video! awesome work!
Perfectly executed DIY Video
Did you put new stretch bolts in for the reinforcement plate?
Excellent video, superb picture quality... but ditch the crappy background noise: it adds nothing of value and detracts from the otherwise professional presentation.
love the tunes also :))
Thanks for sharing. Do you know if the Hella is as reliable as The BMW genuine sensor ? The BMW is manufactured by Hella, but the price difference is $150ish...so I am wondering why
Hella is the exact same part. The BMW logo is ground off so you're getting a genuine part for a fraction of the cost
YES! It's the same part save your money. Hella makes it for BMW have had no issues on my e46 M3 and E36 318i
awesome video!!!
Good DIY, thanks.

Did your car run better after you replaced the sensor?
nanau20021 klar 5 PS mehr homie
Beware 8 out of 10 new oil level/temp sensors are garbage.
I've been installing these left and right and majority of them will register oil level but not temperature.
Specially E38, E39 models.
I started noticing this sometimes around 2013.
Stick to genuine or OE brand. I've never had an issue with these.
8/10 on cheap ones? Yes probably
Cool
10/60 is asking for the rod bearings to take a shit prematurely!!
is 10w-60 bad for e46 m3?
