    Some anglers pass the mainline through the egg sinker and tie a knot. The knot will pull through the sinker if it gets snagged. But the knot is strong enough to allow for lob casting.

    That's a darn good idea! I usually tie a perfection loop on my sinker side and a double surgeon's loop to my line. The perfection loop is weaker and it breaks first saving the rest of the rig by only losing the sinker. You are right though, the pulling on the line so hard to break the weight off does put stress on the line, the rod and your reel. I like your idea better 👍

    I use paper clips to do the same thing. They are cheaper and more common than the bobby pins. I use egg sinkers for everything that needs a weight. Thanks for the tips in your videos.

    You can do what I'd call a semi-fixed Carolina rig by running a decent rubber band through the hole on a bank sinker and then sort of cow hitch it over the line. It can be made into a sliding version with pieces of a coffee stirrer.

    Neat idea , next time I fish in places subject to snags I try it . I wonder if some stainless safety wire or tie wire would work as well .

      As long as it is stiff enough to withstand the force of the cast, it should work

  • @2reelyakrz481
    @2reelyakrz481 3 года назад +1

    Really great idea!!! We'll have to start using that tip. I frequently use that type of rig and try to avoid rocks and other jagged things because it takes too much time to re-rig it and there is limited space for tackle in the yak. Doing this, all I have to have is a bag of sinkers 😁. My wife prefers a Carolina rig -- but so long as you aren't trying to make long casts, it should work fine and have the advantage of being able to swap sinkers a lot more easily.

    • @KayakhacksFishing
      @KayakhacksFishing  3 года назад

      You can vary the tension on the sinker by how much you bend the bobby pin. You just gave me an idea on how to modify this for a Carolina Rig. Thanks!

    • @2reelyakrz481
      @2reelyakrz481 3 года назад

      @@KayakhacksFishing I was thinking about using the closed end of the pin as a sliding sinker sleeve. It would need to be done in a way which doesn't slip over the swivel (maybe use a bead or big swivel) and doesn't tangle during the cast. But for short casts from a boat, I don't believe tangling would be an issue and I think it would be simple enough to find a way to prevent slipping past the swivel (or flying apart on a long cast). In addition to not losing rigging, your hack makes it infinitely easier to change weights on any fishing rig.

      @KayakhacksFishing  3 года назад

      @@2reelyakrz481 lol! You and I are on the same page. Put the pin where the bullet would normally go, add a bead and you have a less snagable carolina. Kind of like a mix of zika and carolina. I need to try it to see if it works well.

    Put a rubber band between the bottom loop and the weight. The if the weight gets caught, pull until the rubber band breaks.

    Use garbage bag twist tie to attach weight Only 2 or 3 twists .... just enough twists to hold it on Few enough twists to slip when tensioned. Probably cheaper than Bobbie pins

    I am seriously looking at purchasing a 2018 Coosa FD are you still happy with yours. Also where do you keep your fish that you intend to keep? I thought I would ask on your latest video hoping you would see it and respond.

    • @KayakhacksFishing
      @KayakhacksFishing  3 года назад +1

      I love the Coosa. It is perfect for where I fish. The single feature that would make me buy it again is the retractable drive unit. I hit oyster beds and sandbars all the time. Without that feature, it would be a huge hassle to pull the unit, move over or off the obstacle, and re-engage. Be sure you get the new orange rudder - it is a game changer in terms of tracking and turning.
