  • If you hate spending a fortune on swinging jjg head lures, here are 3 DIY options to create a swivel jig head. When jig head fishing, it is advantageous to have the bait swing freely and the key to a great DIY swinging jig head is the jig head knot I use in one of the DIY jig head options.

    Holding things up to the camera doesn’t work. Get yourself a piece of black felt. Point the camera at the felt to show what you’re talking about. NO ONE can see what you’re showing.

    Ever since I started bass fishing, i always tie a figure 8 loop knot, connect a snap swivel to every hook im using, and then just snap the swivel to the loop knot
    Ive got big bass this way and it beats retying ever time you change lures.

    WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SWIVLE JIG AND A WEIGHTED TEXAS RIG WITH A SKIRT???

    • @KayakhacksFishing
      @KayakhacksFishing  3 года назад

      Not much... both will hug the bottom. I guess with the swivel, the lure floats more freely while the weight on the TX rig pins the lure to the bottom... but the backend of the TX rig can still float a bit.

    You can just order the mold from do it molds. The mold is 38$ hook keepers are $9.99 per hundred. The mold will pour around a 100,000 heads before it’s wore out and it’s tested and proven itself. Just another option. 👍

    I make my own because I like using micro finesse soft plastics, and absolutely NOBODY is making swing heads smaller than a 2/0!
    I make my own hame changer articulated shanks, so I have lots of different sizes of stainless steel wire and various forming pliers, so my method isnt exactly cheap, at least initially. I save lots of $ in the long run tho.
    Basically, I form the wire double loop with some .022 ss spinner wire, thread a ewg hook on one side (usually size 2 or 4), then I pinch on either a round ball or bullet style sinker in the weight i want, usually ⅛ or less. I take it a step further by tying a small peice of doubled over ss leader wire on the back side of the hook shank leaving just a tad bit of it hanging over the gap between the shank and the eye to get that zman style bait keeper so my elastomer style baits dont slip off. Ive been getting a lot of people on FB wanting to know where they can get one of these. Im not trying to make $ on this, so I am planning on doing a video demo here soon. Just gotta find the time...

    The premade ones have the weights made such that the bait will ride in the correct upright position. A bullet weight won’t do that. But yeah they are stupid expensive.

    Tackle advisors channel does something called a Scooby-Doo rig and a smaller scrappy doo rig that is a similar concept but with a little more distance and stiffness that is a good cheap way to simulate a fancy expensive jig head with better action in some cases. Basically it is longer so that the weight doesn't interfere with your hook set and it's stiffer to keep the weight from getting tangled up with your main line.

    Instead of a loop knot use a split ring attached to the hook and tied to your main line and a pegged bullet weight. Or I’ve been putting the split ring on hook then a swivel bell sinker ( adjust weight as needed) and then add a regular swivel to tie to your main line,

    I went to far I think...
    years ago l bought a split shot "Do it" mold. Since then l use the "split shot solution" in almost everything...
    One, two or three splits shots is all about.
    Crazy cheap solution in my case.
    Regards.
    Fred.

    None of your option are very good. The line goes thru the midle of the weight, allowing the tail to spin. If you take a split shot, bent a small piece of wire at 90 degrees, put the wire thru the hook and with B&J epoxy glued inside the weight, the wire will come out on the top, at 90 degrees, exactly like in a jig. B&J epoxy is ash colour, matching perfect the shot lead. Did that for many years, have a good day.

    I am going to experiment with this. I think if you take the tag end after the first overhand loop and put it through the bullet weight, through the hook eye, and then back up through the bullet weight to finish the knot, you will have basically the exact rig as the store bought ones.

    I know I have commmented before but I have been doing the loop not version with a rubberband pegged bullet weight that works awesome for exactly these less costly version. If you don't want a ;loop knot a split ring on the hook can work as well (is how I did it til I got the loop knot down.) its ridiculous what they are charging for these heads. Good video I keep showing people they don't need to buy these things. I think you can make a dozen for what 3 of these cost if you use that loop knot. Good video as usual

    It’s a nice DIY option. But you won’t get the same action or usage than the more expensive options. The swing football heads the shape and horizontal line ties which does change the action and less likely to hang up in rocks. The VMC Texas eyes also have a grip pin that helps with elaztech baits stay on. Using traditional EWG hooks with elaztech can be annoying since they keep slipping. I do think they are expensive for what they are, but they do have specific usages. But I do love the DIY vids so keep em coming

    • @KayakhacksFishing
      @KayakhacksFishing  4 года назад

      True. I wonder if there is a place you can get the football style as weights. I'll have to look around.
