    Hi guys! Today I'm sharing with you our colic experience with Arlo. In this video, I'm talking about what colic is, how you can help your baby and yourself, and what worked for us! Like I said, I'm not a doctor or a professional so definitely consult with your pediatrician to see what would help your baby specifically. Every baby is different! I'm just a mama sharing what worked for us! I hope this video is helpful and if anything shows that you're not alone if you're dealing with colic. Hang in there, friends! Thanks for watching! XO

    I have recently heard it can be an imbalance in their microbiome. Like their gut health isn’t the greatest and it needs something to help make it flourish. I thought about if my younger one had colic asked his peds if I should eliminate things in my diet but she had told me no.
    But omg yessss the hold! It helped us so much!

    Colic is so hard! With my first (now 4 with no allergies) we tried changing my diet, no milk, eggs, gluten, coffee, soy, or too many leafy greens, all can cause horrible stomach problems. After the colic hold, slow bouncing, the propping up, gas drops, probiotic drops, and gripe water didn’t work out pediatrician had us come in and do a weigh in feed. My poor girl was getting almost 9oz of milk in her tiny new tummy 😣 no wonder she was I pain! She never spit it up, or had excessive poopy diapers, but we started block feeding her (one side at a time only), and it helped a lot. By 5 months she was a totally different baby. With my son (now 2 no allergies), we noticed the same thing starting and I went straight to block feeding and it nipped the colic in the butt. I’m pregnant with my 3rd and I have a feeling block feeding will come again. SO thankful for the Haakaa pump to help the other side while nursing and save milk🙌🏻 also so happy that you found what worked for Arlo 💜

      My story is similar! I have/had a crazy oversupply and my baby was guzzling to try and keep up with the let downs, which ended up causing so much trapped gas and 'water logging'. Block feeding was a life saver. I actually ended up only feeding exclusively on my right breast because of it!

    • @aliciawigren3170
      @aliciawigren3170 4 года назад

      Hannah Fancy, I remember after she was born everyone saying how important it was for baby to nurse BOTH sides and not to let them be done with just one side. Seeing her in pain and so distressed was awful 😩 When we did the weighed in feeding our doctor said she hadn’t seen that happen with a newborn before and was shocked. With my second, and after just a week I knew I had to block feed. On the plus side, the Haakaa allowed us to have a good freezer stash, and I donated a LOT of milk to my local mommas in need 💙 with our third (due at the end of the year), I will try both sides for a bit, but will likely end up block feeding again

    The windi!! It’s a wonderful fridababy invention that is a LIFE SAVER for gassy babies. When nothing else worked, we’d try a windi and soooo many farts would come out and so would a smiley baby.

    BEEN THERE DONE THAT!! Here's what I have learned: I quit dairy when my son was 5 weeks old (he was much better within 48 hours but took about 3 weeks for symptoms to completely go away) and he is now 15 months and still has an intolerance. You would think that trying little bits here and there would help desensitize them to it but it actually damages their gut worse. You should really give it at least 6 months in between exposures to allow his gut to heal. Probiotics and gut healing foods can help. Stay away from processed stuff for him once he starts solids and stick to more whole foods. (i.e.: no crackers, which my son loves! but I know it isn't doing him any favors in terms of healing his gut to be giving him sugar and inflammatory foods). Look up Michelle Beckner Family Wellness- she has a lot of info for dairy free breastfeeding moms. Also- look into the DAIRY LADDER for reintroduction and reintroduce it to him DIRECTLY rather than having you eat it (because it stays in your milk supply for longer so if he still reacts it will be much tougher on him if it is through your milk over multiple feeds). My son drinks almond milk or oat milk in addition to my dairy free breastmilk. I have also heard about A2 milk which has a different type of milk protein that some are less sensitive to, so that is the next thing we are going to try. Another thing that helped my son was letting him sleep on his belly. I know that is unpopular but sometimes you need to do what you need to do. Good luck, mama! Hope my trial and error experience gives you a little bit of a head start on what to look into!

    My son has CMPA, cow's milk protein allergy. They tested his stool (lovely, took a smear from a dirty diaper). Found blood in his stool poor baby. I stopped breast feeding, I'm already gluten intolerant and it was too much. It took a few different formulas and I suspect corn was the reason. If you think your son has dairy issues you can start with the imap dairy ladder, it's a UK thing, once he's 6 months and eating solids. Different doctors feel differently when to start, literally each of his PEDs he's seen felt differently. we are pretty much done the first step with no allergies. And yes, the doctor said no reason not to use gluten bread in my son's diet and guess what? He seems to be gluten intolerant like his mom :-( We still haven't tried corn yet either. But thank God we've done an intro of all the major allergens in food minus shellfish (he's 8 months so we are working through it) and he's been fine even with eggs. So to me to cut dairy (minus wherever he is on dairy intro ladder), gluten, and corn from his diet isn't awful and he's a happy guy now :-) So rest easy, Arlo will likely outgrow some of his allergies it may take some time.

    Our baby was very colicky and clingy starting around 5 weeks and lasted until 11 weeks or so. He was always so terribly gassy and when he was happy, he couldn’t be anywhere but in my arms! He would cry the second he was put in his bassinet, lounger, etc. My pediatrician swears by the “fourth trimester” and explained that babies’ digestive systems are still maturing (thus all the gas issues) and that they often want to be as close to mom as possible. She explained that this behaviour *usually* goes away around 3-4 months. I think she was right! My baby went from a little dragon to a unicorn lol he’s now 12 weeks and only seems to cry or fuss when he’s hungry, needs a change, or gets bored/wants to snuggle. His gas issues have significantly improved. I didn’t change anything in my diet (Dr didn’t think there were any sensitivities) so I think my boy was suffering from the fourth trimester colic and just needed time for his digestive system to catch up. He’s much less gassy and such a happy baby now :) but man those 5-6 weeks were ROUGH 😂

    With my first baby she was colic. We went to her old pediatrician and he was no help. Basically he just said deal with it until it ends. She ended up having acid reflux. And as a mom I knew something was wrong cause every time she ate she looked in pain. Her colic lasted 3 months. What kind of helped was gripe water, just carrying her in my baby sling. But other than that it was so tough. Thank you for your tips and for making this video💚

    For our baby the reason for colic was a tongue tie and so he wasn't eating efficiently and was always hungry and gassy.

    Our 2.5 month old was super colicky he would cry for 3-5hours every night it was horrible... a lot of the tricks you mentioned helped us too! I would also say peddle legs and curls to get gas out helped him as well sometimes and also bouncing on an exercise ball. We changed him to hypoallergenic formula and he is on medication for reflux and like Arlo he is a completely different baby now! Going to a dark quiet room helps a ton!!

    Thank you so much for this video!! I've been going through the exact same thing with my 3 month old since he was 6 weeks old. I changed my diet, but that never worked for me. The doctor said we naturally have lactose in our milk so to just pump and save it and maybe after 4 months I can try giving it to him. That's in case he's allergic to lactose, which we still need to wait to do allergy testing. He was diagnosed with colic and severe acid reflux. I started giving him
    .5-1oz of chamomile tea around 2 months and he went from waking up every hour to every 3 hours. I also hold him like your husband does and that helps.

    Can't find imap milk ladder in a link it's always in PDFs, but we use the six step one and their recipes for cookies, muffins, and pancakes but use King Arthur gluten free flour in them (the best gluten free flour, seriously). Certainly feel free to ask you doctor about it, it sounds like you're having a much better experience with your PED than we are, I had to find this all myself as our doctor who diagnosed and was educated on his allergy took a leave due to pregnancy during the pandemic, it sucks.

    As crazy as it may sounds, a tongue and or lip tie is usually from colic! There are so many tongue tie groups on Facebook that can help point you in the right direction on getting him diagnosed to see if he is tied or not. :)

      @user-mo3cs7fx7y 4 года назад

      Also, gas and reflux can be signs too. Pediatricians aren’t trained to diagnose ties, so I highly recommend getting a LC to see if he is tied! I wish pedi’s knew more about them!

    My daughter is 5 weeks and 3 days old, we have been dealing with colic since about 3 weeks. At first I had no idea what it was. I just thought she was upset because my husband went back to work and her screaming usually always started when he got home. Knowing now its colic I give her mint melody tea and honey 1 oz about 30 mins before she starts getting cranky and it helps relieve any gas pains (she is very difficult to burp) and we will also put diluted lavender on her chest and feet that helps with the crying. Also tummygize diluted on her stomach helps. We use young living oils. We diffuse sleepgize and peace and calming 2 (good for hyperactive babies) at night to help her sleep. The burp position on my shoulder and bouncing helps calm her, we also have used a hot water bottle on her stomach to sooth her.
