    Yeah.... I do all these things.... baby is still up every 1 to 3 hours. Why? Because babies are programmed to wake up throughout the night. It's a protective reflex. The expectation that baby will sleep all night at a young age is unrealistic and unfair. So any parent wondering what they're "doing wrong" because baby isnt sleeping great? you're doing everything perfect, keep consistent and itll improve with time!

    It's also good to rememeber. You don't have to have a baby who sleeps through. Babies are only small so long. They have been tucked up warm and safe in you womb with your heart beat for 9 months it's ok to cuddle them to sleep or feed them to sleep if that's what you want to do. It took me 2 kids to realise that I was a lot less stressed and anxious when I wasnt obsessed over my kids sleep. I enjoyed the baby years much better with the younger 3.
    They are all school age now and I am glad I have those sleepy baby cuddles to look back on.

    This is great to give ideas but every family is different in how they do things. I nursed my babies to sleep and just dealt with it. My three sleep through the night and have since they were night weaned at a year. Do what works for you and your instincts/priorities. And to new Mom's, not all babies will sleep through the night, you are not failing if they are not. Good luck to all. To everything there is a season...

    What I've learned from my babies and those my friends is that some babies start sleeping through at 1 month old and some start sleeping through at 12 months and there isn't a ton you can do to force it, each baby is programmed differently. I had the latter type of baby and I tried it all, great routine. Meanwhile I knew people who didn't have to lift a finger, no routine whose baby slept well right from the start. So most likely, her 6 babies are just all genetically programmed to be good sleepers with good routines in place. Lucky you!!

    • @clarkjc44355
      @clarkjc44355 2 года назад +6

      this is very true and important for parents to know if they are doing good routines and it still isnt helping their sleep....that it may just not work
      but a lot of what is said here could be all a parent needs to do to get a child to sleep better.
      my child unfortunately woke every 30-45minutes. from 4 months old to 2years old. I had a great routine. she slept in her crib in my room and lpved her crib as most nicu babies do. she ate on a good 3 hour roitine to the minute because of her NICU stay and how they do it there
      I didnt know this for almost 8 months but the rrason my child woke so 9ften no matter how much i did thats listed for good sleepers was because she had sleep apnea that was not caught. so sje wple when she had a especially pong apnea. waking eas her bodies way of gettig her to breath again. which often explained why she always woke screaming and upset. the level of crying that no parent can slowly walk yo the crib. its the extreme upset and barely cafchung their brrath cry and just breaks your heart to hear because its a scared cry.
      despite several trips yo her doctor explaining this and what I do for routine it did not help them to consider apnea. which should have now that i know more ahout sleep apnea
      the scary thing is that it is thlught by the experts that babies who die from true SIDS (nkt suffocAtion but truly just stop breathing) actually have undiagnlsed sleep apnea. specifivally centtal sleep apnea which is silent and hard to catch and so dangerous as the braim simply doesnt signal for that next breath. there is not gasping ot snoring like OSA.
      that is what my daughter had. severe CSA. I was told had i noy had her cosleepimh with me that theres a good chAnce she would have been a statistic of SIDS. cosleepimh as in room sharimg and hee crib close to my bed (room was huge) she cpuld hear my breathing amd even ell me as all babies do and it jelped eegualte her breathing amd alsp helped keep her on a loght sleep like I dreaded and thought aas an issue. thankfully it did and it saved her life most likely
      things less severe can do the same. reflux. allergies. pain in kids with low tone etc. lots of things. any neurological condition often can cause bad sleep in infants and kids. yet arent alwaus diagnosed until older (2-5yo) and often not obvuous until older even.

    I did all of these things (expect my baby was exclusively breastfed and never once used a bottle) and the only thing that worked was time. I kept the same schedule and did the same routine every night and although their were countless sleep nights, he eventually began to sleep better around 7-8 months and then a straight 12 hours starting at 11 months. I believe it is important to follow the steps you mentioned but every baby is different and sometimes there is no “fix it” solution expect to wait it out. To all the momma’s who feel like they’ve tried it all and nothing will work - believe me, sometimes there isn’t anything you can do to make your baby sleep like an adult. They are babies. They will grow out of it, and one day you (and they) will sleep again!

    • @Angelina-sn1pz
      @Angelina-sn1pz 5 лет назад +5

      Allana Marie No! He never wanted it, but I didn’t mind at all. My baby nursed in the middle of the night until maybe 10-11 months, and at that point he started eating a lot more solids too. The fact that he didn’t take a bottle meant I didn’t have to wean him off a bottle and didn’t have to deal with cleaning them or buying formula, so that was nice.

  • @gabriellelaha7526
    @gabriellelaha7526 5 лет назад +54

    As a postpartum doula, I think these are great tips! The only thing that concerns me is being strict about feeding every 3 hours while establishing milk supply. It is very normal for babies to cluster feed at times. At the same time, I agree it's important to try to get full feeds in instead of grazing all day long, so learn your baby's cues so you can tell if they're actually hungry or not. And sometimes, babies just want to nurse for comfort and that's ok too.
    As a mother of 4 (soon to be 5), including one set of twins, this is just not my parenting style. I exclusively breastfeed, nurse to sleep during the day and night, and bedshare until baby(ies) is about 6 months old. At that point, we start with naps in the crib and work up to full nights in the crib. My oldest STTN at 11.5 months, my twins about 9 months, my youngest about 7 or 8 months. We have not really had any trouble or felt overly sleep deprived doing things this way. Our babies all figured out pretty quickly that night time is for sleeping and day time is for being awake. I would always change diapers right before nursing, instead of in the middle of the feed, during the night. If I could tell they didn't eat enough, I would try to wake them up with a cold wipe, undressing, etc. We would always keep the lights off during night feeds as well. And I never really swaddled, as it didn't seem to help with my own kids. It is definitely worth a try though and I have done it with all of my doula babies! My own babies must be weird. 😆
    There is no one-size-fits-all solution. Every baby and family is unique. Like I said, these are great tips! But if you try them and your baby still isn't a good sleeper, it doesn't mean you're doing something wrong. And on the flip side, this isn't the *only* way to get your baby to sleep well.
    Thanks for the video, Jordan!

      I disagree. I breastfed my bio son in 2003. My son was not sleeping well. My friend gave me a book teaching the eat, play, sleep method when my son was 2 months old. It changed my baby. He became a more happy, contented, smiley baby afterward. I used it with all my foster infants but added swaddling with the foster babies which I wish I had tried with my bio son.

      @@quicksilvertears921 we all do it differently. But as long as it works and everyone is happy, it's a success. I have breastfed all my kiddos to sleep (8) never had a problem. Babies are usually so darn tired that you have to wake them up for milk in the early days. I think the challenge is active 2-3 year olds who don't want to sleep because there are so many things they want to do. They can be a little sneaky too, lol. How about the fact that all 8 of my kids, including the baby, talks in their sleep just like their dad. I officially live in a loud house.

    Another way to get them to sleep better is bed sharing ... I was also told sleep eat wake but that got stressful cuz my baby would always fall asleep while nursing and so I ignored that and I always nurse her to sleep and she sleeps really well and has since I started bed sharing at 2 wks old..she definitely still nurses at night once or twice sometimes more..even at almost 9 months old but she nurses while shes asleep kinda like dream feeding which is also a good way to get them to sleep better..

    • @lorainisrael
      @lorainisrael 4 года назад

      Bed sharing can really backfire. Many kids, my son included, at some point start just eating every 30-45 min. One cycle of sleep, and instead of going into the next one they smell your boobs. It completely ruined my nights, so I had to stop cosleeping. Just put him in the crib right at my side and it became way better. At 2.5 years, had to move him into another room, because again whenever he woke up, he wanted to move around and woke me up. At that age there was no issue and he got used to his new room in 3 days. And all of us have enough sleep now. I miss sleeping with him, but good sleep is more important.

    I love seeing someone talking about sleep without CIO 😍. A routine is definitely a must but a lot of these tips wouldn’t work for breastfed babies. Feeding to sleep is a biological norm and feeding on demand is completely necessary for a boobie baby x

    As a great-grandma, I recently witnessed my granddaughter’s nightly struggle to get our 11 month old to sleep. He doesn’t just wake up, he’s hysterical every hour or 2. She cosleeps, she nurses, she walks him around, she sings, she bounces, and by day she’s a zombie. She would say that none of your methods work, some of which Worked for me 50 years ago, but she seems unwilling to change. I understand the argument that you want to cuddle as long as you can, but it’s also important and necessary to teach baby to get a good night’s sleep for both of your health and sanity. God bless you for sharing your experience.

    Loved what you said about the noise during the day (even through the evening), we did the same thing with our babies; during the day we didn't stop "life" from happening. I would keep the music going in the background during the day nothing crazy but a "dull roar", the baby would nap and not be startled by doorbells or other noises. I did a lot of your tips and people hated me because I had babies at 4 months sleeping through the night, not every night is perfect but when you can get 4 nights in a 7 day week really good your not sleep deprived and it just gets better as baby gets bigger!

    I have almost all of these with great consistency and my first slept through the night at 4 months old and my second at 2 months old. My first was formula fed and my second was EBF. My second can sleep through any noise. Listen Jordan your tips are great!! I had some of the best advice from my mother in law. She had 4 kids of her own and has babysat children for 20 years and I’ve seen how she turns a fussy baby who won’t sleep and wants to be held to one who is perfectly content sleeping in a playpen through noise. Routine is also great, babies get used to it and it grows with them. My kids know it’s dinner, bath, story time, prayer and lights out.

    These same tips got me into trouble with nursing my daughter because my production went back and she didn't gain any weight. I also was not happy in those weeks. Once I started to follow her and fed on demand, plus start co-sleeping, she started to grow, I got my production back and we were both happier. And she is now almost 2,5 and still breastfed and still co-sleeping and we truly are much happier this way. So it depends on babies and mothers what works for them.

    While I totally agree with getting routine going and lord knows have I given some bad sleep crutches... limiting feeds to every 3 hours probably will disrupt you building your milk supply if you are trying breastfeeding. It builds best when you feed on demand, which can be much more regular especially during cluster days/nights. And yes some feeds are more for comfort, and baby often wakes looking for that closeness, smell etc. None of my family breastfed and their babies all slept through from 3-7 weeks. Mine didn’t until fully weaned at 1+. That’s frustrating but I think mums new to breastfeeding should have open expectations.

      Oh the cluster feeds! I have 6 littles and co slept with all of them, nursed on demand- after they were weaned the sleep training started. Not ashamed- never had a baby sleep through the night until after weaning 🤷🏻‍♀️- my boobs would be to sore and I wouldn’t have good milk supply if I waited so long to nurse. Some tips are nice for naps like laying down awake- but I’m guilty of always rocking and nursing them to sleep- time goes by soooo fast and I just wanted to rock and love on my babies. ✌🏻😊

    Routine! Routine! Routine! I sweat by it for bedtime now and my son is almost 4. Bedtime and nap time is not a struggle at all, because he knows what to expect.
    I also recommend keeping their room dark at night. I know that seems so simple, but my husband and I used to leave a very dim light on. We thought the dark would bother our son when he woke during the night. We stayed at my in-laws when my son was like 4 months old and he slept 5 hours straight. We couldn’t believe it. That was a game changer for us.

    We don't have a family yet, but I still love watching your videos. We are focusing on getting out of debt first. Should be by next April! Thank you for being such an inspiration.

    Your boy is getting so big!! I always think he looks like his Daddy in your videos, but in that clip at the end he looked just like you!! 💛 Great tips, a lot of these have worked for me!! My son is over a year old now and he has been sleeping through the night since he was 3 months. If you have any tips for sleep regression during rough teething times, please letcha girl know!! 😂

    Man this makes me feel so lucky. My daughter started sleeping through the night at 2 months old, she is almost 4 months now. I think it really depends on the baby. A consistent routine definitely helps. We let her sleep during the day if she is tired, but she is pretty active in the day. We put her to bed at 9pm every night, make sure she is fed and changed and put into pajamas every night. We put her in the swing until she falls asleep and then we take her up to her pack n play or her crib and turn on her music box. She doesn't wake up until 7-9 am. We always change her diaper after feeding her, she takes between 4-8oz with each feeding. She's starting to teeth now and she misses me now that I work nights so she is starting to want a bit more attention but the schedule hasn't changed too much. My boyfriend has been putting her down at about 10-11pm and she's up between 6-8am.

    Wow thanks for sharing!!
    My baby is 9 months old and she's been sleeping through the night since 2 months 😊. It's my first baby and I did sooooo much research and did every single one of the things you mentioned and YES they all are so helpful 😊
    One thing I wanted to mention that helped us was to make sure your baby is getting enough ounces in a day before bedtime. I breastfed and made sure we didn't skip a feeding or prolong it. If they don't get enough ounces anywhere from 23-30 They will wake up hungry because they are not satisfied.

      You got lucky with a naturally good sleeper, girlfriend! Enjoy it 😁 Lots of parents do all the "right" things and their babies still don't sleep through.

    My little boy has come to work with me since he was about a week old. I would hold him the same way to put him to sleep. Works so fast.
