I'm still watching it ... sound of music was and will always be the only movie that ever grace the stage in Hollywood that wrapped everyone up in it's warm embrace and never let them go ... Miss Julie Andrew , thank you . Back in the day , we look forward to watching it every Xmas day

Good for you for teaching your students about the film. I played Marta around 1971 at my sisters high school, Pius XI in Milwaukee, WI. (Both were Nuns). It was such a wonderful experience that I kept the program and my tiny curtain dress all these years!
Congratulations on your gifts. You are so worthy of receiving them. Have a fantastic trip and enjoy your music!

I went to my friend’s 17th birthday quite a few years back and her dad made me sing 16 Going on 17 to her.
Also my sister played Maria in our high school’s production.

I’m happy for her! I’ve personally been a fan of The Sound of Music since I was 13 in middle school. Took me until I finished high school to give the movie a second glance. And my second viewing was to prepare for the NBC Live production starring Carrie Underwood as Maria. I’m 30 now and have seen the movie 10 times. Most occasions were between Thanksgiving and Christmas! Not one holiday season for me is complete without hearing a snippet of those beautiful tunes by Rogers & Hammerstein! Last year for Mother’s Day, my mom and I had a date to see the stage version at one of our local theaters. There are some things I prefer the way they were done in the movie though.

I introduced my husband and children to this wonderful movie YEATS ago!
At age 16, youngest son watched it by himself and said, "Momma, you never said this movie was this good"! Hahaha He LOVED it!!!

My mum loves the sound of music. Me and her were in it together two years ago at a theater company. When we when little see, used to always sing a edowise to us to help but fall asleep.

Could you ask Jill Davis to check her copy of the super deluxe soundtrack CD set? There’s a production error. Disc 4 is a duplicate of Disc 2.
If you get in touch with her, could you ask her to write to Craft Recordings to request for the corrected diac?

My family was supposed to stay in the van trap family lodge but then Covid hit. We’re hoping someday to go to a Austria so that we can stay in the von Trapp family Lodge.

Wow Gma im watching right now and im seeing a what seems to be a 10 min segment on the sound of music and some lady and how she’s tied to that movie. Also i just read an article by a women titled what the sound of music taught my 3 year old about nazis…
that movie is racist why in the hell would you have a 10 mins segment in the middle of the day on it. Soo many wanna talk about the squad and how their soooo bad. Whats the difference in what the squad says and 3 anchors all smiling from ear to ear talking about a movie i thought we all agreed was racist as hell. Unbelievable…
Its not some happy musical sorry its not

So I looked up this article. Here is a quote from the end of the article you mentioned.
"I never would have guessed that watching a film from our sick bed in the English countryside would have started us on such a deep and important conversation.
And for that I thank Julie Andrews."
Did you read the full article? The movie is not racist, but it does open up the discussion about what Racism is and who the Nazis were/are. The mother who wrote the article was expressing how she had forgotten how the movie dealt with hard topics and how that lead to deeper important conversations with her three-year-old. She wasn't saying the movie was racist, but that the Nazis were.
This same mother might some day show her child the movie "Ruby Bridges" and again have very deep and important conversations about racism. Movies can be good places to start to have hard conversations. Just because a movie teaches about racism, doesn't mean a movie is racist- quite the opposite.
I did enjoy reading the article you mentioned. Thank you.
