- Remember, you asked for this... I'm back in a carrier, and this time, it's the famous Hornet. The first one, not the second one, which was called Kearsarge at first - but that's a topic for another video.

This seems like one of those ships where why someone would want it is the historic value. She can’t compare to the Indomitable and Parseval. But her history is so massive that’s why someone would want her. Although the chances tk get it is so low

During the Doolittle raid, one of the bombers diverted to Russia. Russia having a non agression rule with Japan wasn’t happy to see the plane land on their land and the crew got arrested immediately. The crew then proceeded to travel to Turkey and then managed to escape this way
Their "escape" was actually facilitated by the Soviets, to save face, since they had officially interned the bomber crew, so they couldn't admit letting them go.
The player in the second match Indomitable...oh boy he is by far a great player in a carrier. Played a few matches with and a lot against him...he is brilliant...! And then there's Terry getting a MVP 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Don't be sorry. Gave me a chance to have some laughs at my own expense, and T8 is about the limit of what I can play without my whole team cursing me too much.

At least if you're in a T8 game, and see some "dive" bombers coming, you know what you're up against.
Been awhile since I've checked in on anything related to WoWB. I'm Pleasantly surprised to see another Yorktown-class CV in game. Is the Yorktown now playable or is it still just an AI in the campaign?
I bought her from a sale and I can say one thing:
She's a great carrier! One of the tricks is to lead with Dive Bombers first (as they have the most health) followed by Fighters then Torpedo Bombers.
When engaging enemy fighters, trick them first in engaging your Dive Bombers before you nail them with your fighters. It's the same with torpedoing enemies. The reduced preparation time will help you get more aircrafts in the air :)
The Speed of Hornet will let you move with the main fleet while being stealthy: shorter flight distance leads to better preservation of fighters :)
Overall, she's a slightly weaker than her sister, nevertheless. She's fun to play! :)
Edit:
I have played a few games with her, and here are some tips:
1. Use your superior speed to move with the attacking force
2. You lead with the dive bombers (as they have big health), followed by fighters and torpedo bombers
3. Every time you do an attack, lead with the dive first for the same reason as item 2
4. Basically, you think of the "Doolittle Raid":
- You need to get as close as you can to the battlefield without being detected
- Preparation time is more important than aircraft count
- If you fight an aircraft carrier that has 2 fighters, expect to be Turkey Shot (Clear Skied)

I've noticed the complete and utter state of matchmaking too. I'll level with you, I perfer the bots. Anybody know what changed?
It's because it's the first week of the months, and leagues have reset. Give it a couple of days, and things should get better.

B-25 is not parked with nose pointing up. They have one landing gear below its nose and under each engines.
WG still modelled them with single engined airplane used in another CVs.

send the b25s first they are slow and sturdy and the torp planes stay close to them make sure you send your entire thing not t=just dive bombers aa locks on the first squadron so the b25s are shieds for the torpbombers

No, it's a regular account, but with a large number of resources, and we get sent new ships pre-release for review

Dreadful fighters, AA and torpedoe bombers but at least you have the miracle of landing and storing medium "dive bombers" below deck to launch those useless planes and in spite of the teams lack of ability. Not to mention I hate carriers.
Hey. Hi my friend and Guru ! I question as we all do the wisdom of WG. As someone three years into the program I was decidedly confused about the usage of the word " bundle" . The USS Flint was on offer as a bundle by by itself? ! I need some of that Asian server wisdom. Please tell me they will at least add the historical cammo so as to pretend to be an actual bundle.

I was excited for the Hornet but t8 cv meta is just stacked with them. Plus lots better CVs at that tier. Would have been more better at t9 where there isnt any premium cvs yet or t7 is my 2 cents. But t7 have the Graf, Saipan and Kaga to contend with so yeah t9 would have been better in my opinion.
Hornet is weak at T8. You want to put that at T9?
But yes cvs at T9 arent really a thing.
With tier improvements it could fit in at 9

Even if it is sold in direct money or gold not in a gamble scheme I will not spend a single kopeyck to get this. Unless perhaps it is moved to t6 instead of t8.

Okay... calm down take a deep breath and unload a shit load of text.
First of all: im NOT a cv Main but i like them a lot. I grinded haku and midway and have the other T8s ( Implacable and Parseval). I have some idea what im talking about.
The build was alright. Meta build on cvs (fighter Mobilizty and stealth) and what i would have done too on the hornet.
Gameplay... yes meh. Terry and cvs are just not a healthy/good combo for the average cv enjoyer. But you did your best.
Usually never ever send attack planes unless the sky is clear or enemy fighters are completly out of position. Spotting dds is enough if you cant hit them. But using tbs on a different target than the dbs without getting something done is quite ineffective. You loose a lot of dot damage wich US cvs really need cause of low alpha strike. If you still try to torp dds make them think you attack a different target. Make the attack as straight as possible (90° on dds broadside. Done by flying next to them in some distance. Works good with the "make the think you dont attack them" part. If the tbs dont turn infront of the dd he has less reaction time. If the dd starts dodging make Himmel turn into the torps (basically coming from inside his turning circle) and dont try to adjust your tbs from outside his turning circle. It will never work. You actually Learn torping dds quite well with bots. They also do weird manouvers🤣.
US fighters are btw the best out there. Fast and good stats. Only uk fighters are better but they are slowwww.
Also why does everybody think indomitable fighters are good? Well they are. Sometimes. They are slow and easy to bait and if you have some distance they cant catch you on your attack planes way back. Indomiatble is never a threat to me. But maybe players on EU are just bad lol.
Generally i dont think hornet is a good ship. Or not good enough as we have enterprise and shokaku at T8. If you want it because the bombers then yes but i wont spend my money on it. Rather get enterprise. The bomber on enterprise seem better and more reliable and the fighters are great. Dont have and prem cvs at t8 myself but i got to play some on a friends account. I would prefer enterprise over hornet

Thanks for the detailed analysis! I've watched many instructional videos on how to CV, but it's just not my thing at the end of the day.
Some observations: I can't manage to bait fighters. Ever. I don't know if it's a ping issue (no matter which server I play on, I have about 200ms due to Australia) or if I'm just crap. But against an Indomitable, it doesn't matter. Even if I engage their fighter wing over two friendly ships, mine still lose, so "clear skies" just don't happen. And while I have two torpedo wings to manage, Indo is fire & forget and literally has nothing else to do than manage fighters.
Sending out the B-25s together with the torpedo bombers and have them tank is a good idea, with one problem - the B-25s take almost twice as long to reload.
The torpedo bombers are crap. Even without enemy fighters in the air, they can't make it through to a decent AA BB without complete loss of squadron.
Oh, and lastly, my fighters can hardly put a scratch on Indo's dive bombers, even if they're not currently massacred by her fighters. That, combined with the frequency of going up against Indo, was what got me a bit salty.
All in all, I think it's a relatively weak CV with a single gimmick that's quite dependent on RNG and has a long cooldown. Might work in capable hands, but not in mine 😂
@@FunandGameswithTerry hornet will never really work. Ente or shoko are just better. You have good planes with long reload and Bad planes with short reload. This never works. You always have to split you squads and make it easier for the aa. Thats why i love ijn cvs: about the same reload and fast planes. Clump planes up and go in and out.
Fighters only engage if
a) they get attacked
b) to close to enemy fighters
c) have fighters in their patrol range
Fighters either engage, patrol or fly to a patrol point.
You want to Do "long" manouvers (left to right and right to left) infront of enemy fighters without letting them come in the patrol status. You can also set a waypoint behind enemy fighters. If they start following you fly back to your ship. Its hard to explain. I recommend getting a friend a an other account in the test room or how it is called and just test things. Start to bait patroling fighters and if you can do this do a "bait fight"
@@FunandGameswithTerry the key to shooting down attack planes is to "babysit" the fighters. Putting them somewhere and let them do does bot work. They dont have enough time to shot planes down because they get to fast out of range. Good players go in and out. A matter of seconds. Its best to Position your fighters smart and and start to intercept the enemys planes as soon as they leave air cover by allied(enemy) ships. Then babysit them to their target and back. So you can shoot down entire attack runs. Thats also US fighters are better. Ijn planes just outrun uk fighters. Also the reason why you always go fighter mod.
Always remember cvs are full of bugs. Things tend to go not as planned. Especially if you combine to bad ping cvs and fighters. But as long as things dont start to teleport ping shouldnt be a problem
i play this game, and i am on the verge of quitting, the matchmaking sucks, always up or down tiered, plus i have to use boosters just to get progress. overall, wargaming doesn't care at all in my opinion

Anyway great video, I agree with everyone else. She belong to tier 9.
So as main Friesland player for example, as player who loves good aa and sees many Worcester's and stuff it would be a different story if this kind of dive bombers would be on tier 9/10. Because the monstrous aa of cruisers and destroyers is a huge problem against carrier drops. I mean I love it. I love I can fight a CV easily in a Friesland, she is supposed to do that to planes (Record is 65 planes for me), buuut extremely high hp dive bombers would affect the gameplay there.
On tier 7/8 naaw not that much.
I mean she can get into tier 9, but because she is a lower tier, it doesn't help that much.
The B-25s are a nice gimmick, but extremely rng-dependent. I generally try not to use them against DDs, since they take forever to rearm, and while you can get lucky and chunk half a DD off, you can also be unlucky and get one hit in.
I think in general, CV players use torpedo bombers to greater effect against DDs, and dive bombers on larger targets to trigger damage controls. I don't know how well T9 AA would work against those bombers, they have almost twice the HP of an Indomitable wing, so that could give you a bit of a clue.
