  • Rounding up my foray into the terrors of CV gameplay, it's the Furious's turn. Initially an "Outrageous"-class ... "battlecruiser" ... really, I can't say this with a straight face.
    Either way, I've actually gotten a little better playing carriers, so I'm not completely crap anymore - just distinctly average.
    Big thanks to DeathFromAbove for his carrier guide, I can recommend checking that out: • Aircraft carrier guide...

    As a carrier player i say we have a pretty chill combat role on the battlefield

    • @FunandGameswithTerry

      Honestly, it's the opposite for me. Keeping track of multiple squadrons, and making sure that all the timings line up, is _much_ harder for me than keeping track of the positions of enemy ships relative to myself. But it's all a matter of practice, I think, and figuring out how things work.

    Hey Terry, great video. I was curious if you could do a video on the HMS Belfast. For some reason, wargaming has the Belfast down as 2 different class of ships, the Edinburgh class, but also a Town class cruiser. I was wondering if you could review it and clear up that

    • @explorationandhistorywithethan
      @explorationandhistorywithethan 2 года назад +1

      Edinburgh was an updated town class cruiser, her and Belfast are pure sister ships, under a sub class.

    Great video. As a carrier player, I am glad to see how much you have improved from your last carrier video. Overall, you did a great job at managing planes. The only small things I noticed is that you only send out one torpedo bomber squadron at a time. This is generally not how I would play a carrier with multiple torpedo bomber groups (with a few exceptions I will talk about later). You generally want to pool your planes together as they will collectively take less AA from enemy ships. Think of the amount of AA damage taken proportional to the total time your plane exposed to enemy ships. This is not a huge issue in T6, as AA doesn't matter as much. But in higher tiers, you will lose planes very quickly and it's absolutely critical to minimize the amount of damage taken on torpedo bombers. I know it's quite difficult to manage multiple torpedo bomber groups simultaneously, but a good player can usually manage 2 groups fine. The only case I send torpedo bombers one at a time is fighting destroyers at close range (< 8km) with Kaga, which has 3 torpedo groups. This is usually fine because of the fast squadron time of Kaga, and the fact that destroyers rushing you (the carrier player) are usually alone and doesn't have great AA. And I find it very difficult to hit a destroyer from a capable player at all if I try to manage 3 squadrons at the same time.

    Better than I thought it would be ........ the flights of 2 swordfish torpedo bombers are way tougher than I thought they'd be .

    Hi, Terry :)
    1. Regarding the Izmail
    Afk players surely ruin any games, but for the majority of them it might not be in their utmost intention to do so. Some might have experienced disrupted network connections, some might have experienced electricity problem, and since the 4.4 update; a lot of players very often experience multiple game crashes. If it happens during battles, it usually happens before battles start after the matchmaking screen. WG has not done any noticeable efforts to fix this crashes, it still happens a lot and this perhaps will slowly drive players away from the game hence why more and more bots are inserted into MM, and MM waiting time might also increase.
    2. Return flight button now works as originally intended. Flights can be ordered to return home for example to avoid enemy fighters or AA bubbles, but no more torpedo bomber attack rerun exploits players used to abuse in the past that will not work now.
    3. You were doing great as a carrier controller in the video, but I think you often released torps too close to your targets. Some might not arm yet, and should targets make abrupt evasion maneuvers it would be incredibly difficult to suddenly correct torps release angle. Your torp bombers might be forced to either miss the target completely or to enter loiter mode, making them stay in the target's AA bubble longer.

      Yeah, I'm aware that many people have had issues connecting. I don't blame anyone for being afk - there can be all manner of reasons, phone call, something urgent came up, connection issues, crashes etc. It was just funny in that instance that he came online just in the nick of time to be obliterated :)
      The problems with the matchmaker actually affect me quite a bit, since I'm trying to get "bot-free" battles for footage recordings, and that has become a lot harder. Often I get into a battle after just a few seconds wait, even when it's a busy server, especially with carriers.
      I've never been deep enough into the CV exploitation mechanics, but my primary use for "recalling" torpedo bombers is to give myself enough time for a clean run, without having them to do unnecessary loops while being shot at.
      I'm aware with the torps - I think I'm trying too hard to get them to be "hard to dodge", also the British torps have a shorter range than the other nations', so I'm tempted to drop "too close". Like I said, still learning :)

    OMG, I’m exhausted watching this! 🤣 I only play carriers to close out missions… and completely suck at them. What’s the tip about the return home button? How should I use it or how does it help? Excellent video, as always, Terry. 🤙🏼

    • @FunandGameswithTerry
      @FunandGameswithTerry  2 года назад

      I think the idea is that if your planes are already close to their drop, re-targeting either causes them to "loop around" for another pass, all the while getting shot at by AA, or you're too late and they're already in their run, which is then going to miss. Recalling them gives you more time, and allows for a clean repositioning.

  • @angc214
    @angc214 2 года назад +1

    If you're going to be forced to drop on a group of ships, route your dive bombers and torpedo planes wide around the enemy fleet out of AA range then come in from behind. That way your planes only fly through the AA bubbles once. Otherwise very good games. DFA's coaching has definitely helped both of us. I still have a difficult time getting the knack of baiting enemy fighters. There's an art to that I just haven't perfected.

    • @FunandGameswithTerry
      @FunandGameswithTerry  2 года назад

      From my understanding, fighters get "baited" once they're no longer on a move order, but on a patrol order (i.e. have reached their destination). If you "move order" yours past an enemy group that is on "patrol", they'll get into dogfight, but your move order takes precedence, so you retain control.
      Effectively, always control your fighters, don't leave them on patrol. That's what I'm trying to do.

    you drop torps too close sometimes so close last video you didnt let them arm
    independence is very good at fire/flood chance and you can get 80k+ dmg easy, i use camo and pretty decent commander on it for the lolz 😆

    At 15:57 you did a mistake, you rerouted the torp bombers and made them spin ( the aircraft have to realign and loose health for nothing ) to prevent this try to keep your bomber first away from the target you want to drop wait for the line to come somewhat perpendicular to ship and then reroute the squadron, and also try to keep your squadrons always busy never leave them on the cv ( precious time lost )

  • @HighlanderNorth1

    😕 The royal navy designers SHOULD'VE left it like it was at 3:14, ie. half battlecruiser and half carrier. In technical terms, it was a "battle-crarrier". The biggest mystery we struggle with, is why didn't everyone else get in on ^this (3:14)action? Just think about how well suited that design would've been for operating large jets, especially strategic nuclear bombers like the Douglas A-3 Skywarrior!
    Hopefully they'll soon pull the new Queen Elizabeth back into the shipyard, and convert her into a one 18" gun battle-crarrier, with a narrow, 120 foot long angled flight deck up front, just like the early incarnation of the Furious... 😎👍

    • @FunandGameswithTerry
      @FunandGameswithTerry  2 года назад +3

      Exactly. The F-35C has VTOL capabilities, I think - what do they need a full-on landing deck for? Just get rid of half of it, and make some better use. Now, 18'' guns may be a bit old fashioned, but why not use all that space for a decent railgun?
