Update! 508108 and 508114 have gone for scrap on the 15th January 2024 and there is only one Class 508 left! 508104, this video was filmed when the network only had 3 units left
Hunts Cross to Southport is the final line to be converted from the PEPs to the Class 777s and there has been a unit that has entered service on that line but most of the other lines do have Class 777s
Another amazing video. Lots of interesting facts and looks a lot of fun. It helps people to want to get out and about more often and the confidence to use trains.😊❤
Thank you and really appreciate the comment, there is a lot of negativity with the trains at the moment due to the strikes and other things but just want to give people a enjoyable experience
i visited Waterloo twice once in 2021 & 2022 & its a lovely station & im loving Hightown & Freshfields & brilliant shots of the 508s & 507001 brilliant vlog
This was only my 2nd time at Waterloo. When I'm in Liverpool I don't really do that far out on the Northern Line but made sense to do it after the last video with 507001 that I stayed on the Wirral Line. Thanks Michael
Very interesting video that. Wonder when the Southport line is going to get the lovely new trains. Those old ones have been in use ever since i started having to use them in 1983. It will be sad to see them go. Will have to have a last ride on an old train, before getting on a new one.
Great video, Simon! Wow, only three units left in service! I'll have to see if I can get a ride on Merseyrail in the future to try out their rolling stock and routes.
Thank you, I have heard that 2 more Class 508s are leaving the network tomorrow, there is a Birkenhead North Depot to Crewe South Yard movement planned.
That's true, there 2 units are heading to Crewe South Yard tomorrow to be stored while they wait for Newport Docks to clear and then they be sent for scrap
@@DavidLancstrainspotting Only thing I can think off is give Stereo a try and not mono, I don't really know much on mics but I remember watching a video on something myself
Great vlog Simon, shame that you didn’t get to ride any 508s on this day but at least you captured one on a ECS movement. I enjoyed watching as always.
Already done mate! 508 108 and 508 114 I got on New Years Day and have now been withdrawn from revenue-earning service, due to leave the network tomorrow and 508 104 I got today on the West Kirby. She hasn’t got long left
Seen that there a path for Crewe South Yard tomorrow for those Class 508s, I have rode on them before, 508108 done from Ellesmere Port to Overpool and 508114 from Bidston to Liverpool Lime Street low Level. As for 508104 done 5 journeys on that Unit, but was hoping to get one final ride on them but still I seen all three during the time of this video.
@@Sim0nTrains that’ll unfortunately be for 508 108 and her sister 508 114 and it looks like 508 104 is scheduled for withdrawal from revenue-earning service a week after them on Wednesday🙄
This was filmed on the 30th December but I know there is a path booked in tomorrow for 2 units (guessing it 114 and 108) to be sent to Crewe South Yard to be stored before being sent for scrap.
Possibly 507023 but I highly doubt it as that failed at Moorfields on the Wirral Line platform, it suffered a power failure on one end which is why it sort of matches a description for 023
I didn't use a Merseyrail Day saver for this trip. Return from Rugeley TV to Liverpool and then a return Liverpool to Southport, total came to about £21 (with a railcard)
It used to be a Canon Legria RF806 but I've only upgraded myself last month (early Christmas Present) to the DJI Omso Pocket 3, which allows me to use a microphone which you see attached to my shirt.
There is, this was recorded on the 30th December, the other 2 units are heading to Crewe South Yard tomorrow to be stored while they wait for Newport Docks to clear and then they be sent for scrap
Yes, all the rest have gone for scrap but two more are planned to leave the Merseyrail Network tomorrow and head to Crewe South Yard for storage until Newport Docks is free so they can be scrapped. However it only 3 on the Merseyrail Network as there are more but not in passenger use, there a Trailer vehicle from 508201 and trailer vehicle from 508209 in Seacombe used as Emergency Services Training and 2 trailer vehicles are used as translator coaches for stock movements

It's sad the 507s and 508s have been scrapped!
508104 has already done its last service and gone
Well done
Great video. The Merseyrail network won't be quite the same without the distinctive sound of the PEP traction motors.
Great video Simon
Thank you
Great video!
Thank you
I didn't realise the class 777 have already been rolled out so widely.

At least you got to see the remaining 508 EMUs and you got to travel on 507001 which is a win! Another brilliant video Cyber!
Thanks TicoSprinter
Great video as always Simon
Thank you
I remember the 508's working out of London Waterloo when new and upon the old Southern Region. That does seem a long time ago now!
Great video again Simon!
001 looks fantastic in that livery.
Unsure if it's marked for preservation, but it should be.👍🙂
Thank you, think 507001 is being preserved but it's not 100% yet
Excellent video Cyber 👍
Sad to see the 508s finish, but good that you rode on 507001
Thanks Thormaby 37
Brilliant video Cyber, only 3 508's left, the days of the PEP's really are numbered now. It will be sad to see them all go.
Thanks Reuben, there are 2 Class 508 heading to Crewe South Yard tomorrow to be stored which means there only 1 left

Thanks Daniel and was great to meet you and Dylan again in Liverpool
Great vlog and 507001 does look fab! p.s. are you sure it wasn't London Waterloo? 😛
Thanks G! I'm sure it wasn't London Waterloo lol

I manage to catch 114 & 108 coupled together on the Southport line before their demise. Gave us a few tones
Sad only 104 is left

I think that most of the Class 777s have entered service with the Class 507 and Class 508 to be phased out and to be sent for scrap.
At least you saw them Simon so not all bad.
When is the Class 507 farewell tour? Also, Lovely Video Simon! I’m gonna miss the 508s.
Only one in service now

Are they going to preserve any of these old emus? I suppose the trouble is, where are they going to run them if they did?
Think it just 507001 planned to be preserved
I wonder which will last longer, the 507s or the class 455/7 with a pep trailer
Guessing the Class 455/7 with PEP Trailer as the Class 507s planning to be removed by Spring time
Great video! Its a shame the PEPs are being rolled out so quickly😢

508114 and 508108 have now been stood down, 508104 is expected to be stood down within the next few weeks.
