Since there are approximately 10 Genres represented in Neo Geo MVSX, I then recommend for you to choose the best of each genre. This list of games are generally assumed to be the best across the board. Garou Mark of the wolves, The King of Fighters '98 or 2002, The Last Blade 2, Baseball Stars should be 2 but not available, Samurai Shodown II or lV, World Heroes Perfect, Fatal Fury Special 1993 or Real Bout Fatal Fury 2, Sengoku 3, Magician Lord, Metal Slug 3 or X

Good Review man the slowdown you're experiencing is totally typical for NeoGeo games when many characters are on the screen. This happens on original hardware and is seen in Neo Geo emulation as well. This is seen a lot on Metal Slug 2, Shock Troopers, and Blazing Star (as well as several other games) on original hardware. I don't know precisely the cause, but I would imagine it had to do with CPU and memory issues with the original hardware. Anyway, I believe what you're experiencing is normal for Neo Geo. Maybe someone with a bit more experience can explain the more in-depth technical explanation for it.

Make sure to promote it in the MVSX alliance Facebook group too 👍🏻 I didn't pick up on the back button showing up on the main UI, thsgs a great catch! I used to think that's part of the charm. When it gets too chaotic on screen the game purposely slows down to give me bullet time. Years later I found out it's due to dropping frame rate and hardware issues haha.

Thanks for the review. Found it very helpful, as I am awaiting the much anticipated arrival of my MVSX unit, this week. Good to know it has a usb port, for firmware updates. I'm guessing the extra buttons in the 6packs means they're forwardly planning for possible games which need those extra buttons. The vertical scan line emulation is for the portrait mode oriented games, as it simulates a monitor which has been oriented for vertical positioning, like Glaga, for example. I honestly don't think it would take much to throw in a couple of 4, or 6 inch mids in the rear panel, with sound hole cutouts, and a 25 to 50 watt amp. You'd have rearward firing speakers, but the wall would spread the sound out nicely. Easy to do, as that reap panel comes off, easily. Thanks for the review. :)

    Unqualified Critics,
This is the review I was waiting for! So far, all the reviews for the system have been positive, so cool to hear!
Something quick about Metal Slug 2. The game was originally released buggy and had slow down and other issues. Metal Slug X is pretty much a fixed remake of 2, so I'd play that one instead :)
Now for the big one, the games. You're absolutely right about 3rd parties programming for the Neo Geo and I never thought that might be the reason for the specific games chosen for MVSX. Good find! That being said, I think even if the entire Neo Geo games library was under the same developer/publisher, I don't think Unico could've come up with a perfect collection of 50 games to please everyone. I avidly played Neo Geo in Arcades back in the day, as well as many on the original console, and even if I was tasked with picking all 50 games for the system, there would still be those out there who wouldn't be happy. I actually sent the MVSX team my dream 50 list (ranked by favorite), which they thanked me for, and mine is quite a bit different from theirs. I think my list is much more diverse, but as you pointed out, the reason Unico may have picked the games they did, is because all of them are actually Neo Geo developed. Here's my dream list:
    King Of The Monsters
    Magician Lord
    Metal Slug
    Metal Slug 2
    Metal Slug 3
    Metal Slug 4
    Metal Slug 5
    Metal Slug X
    Samurai Showdown
    Eight Man
    Ninja Combat
    Crossed Swords
    Sengoku
    Sengoku 2
    Sengoku 3
    Baseball Stars Professional
    Top Players Golf
    League Bowling
    Nightmare in the Dark
    NAM-1975
    Cyber-Lip
    Blazing Star
    Garou: Mark of the Wolves
    Prehistoric Isle 2
    Pulstar
    Shock Troopers
    Strikers 1945 Plus
    Last Resort
    SNK Vs. Capcom
Far East Of Eden: Kabuki Klash
    Areo Fighters 3
    The Super Spy
    The King Of Fighters 98'
    The Last Blade 2
Real Bout Fatal Fury 2: The Newcomers
    World Heroes Perfect
    Art Of Fighting 3
    Neo Drift Out: New Technology
    Top Hunter: Roddy & Cathy
    Ninja Commando
    Captain Tomaday
    Blue's Journey
    Robo Army
    Football Frenzy
    Viewpoint
    Waku Waku 7
    Windjammers
    Twinkle Star Sprites
    Puzzle Bobble 2
    Riding Hero
I also suggested to Unico that they might want to consider, if they have the means, setting up an online store to sell additional games as DLC, either in collections, like already on the MVSX, or singles. They let me know they appreciated all the feedback!
Great review and I look forward to getting one!

I feel like people complaining about the game selection is absurd. I say 95% of their greatest hits are on there already. It would've been nice to have the full library but c'mon man lol. Arcade1up has 3-5 games on most of their cabs (I'm not complaining as I own 2 myself & I enjoy them quite a bit). One minor complaint I have is the button layout. It should have been 4 buttons instead of 6. This product is going for nostalgia & the arcade experience but for some games due to hand/fingers positioning It does change the gaming experience.

This is like the 4th video I've researched on the cabinet and like many others, this is what I think "we" want for around 500 bucks:
Even as a bar top, wider layout like the arcade for 2 players, especially since this targeting a fighting gamer.
    With that, a larger screen.
Maybe "SNK LEVEL" controllers and buttons isn't too demanding.
The sound option really makes me scratch my head.
Maybe if I was an arcade'aholic I'd buy it anyway next to a room of 1UPs, but if I wanted 1 really good machine, I'm feeling this still hasn't really made that impression.
If anyone read this and wants to comment, im really interested in hearing your thoughts.... or, recomend me an alternative machine which fits the bill but doesn't break the bank much more than the 500$-ish ballpark?

Would it be too much to ask to include a command list for the fighting games? Granted, I know most of these games and their special moves like the palm of my hand, but every now and then I like to give a shot at new characters. It would come in handy to gain access to a guide for those moves. An emulator has that, so why not this cabinet? They still have a few touches ahead to make this a hundred per cent desirable machine in my opinion. Other than that, quite a neat cabinet, no doubt.

After Retro Ralph initial review and Console Kits separate expanded review, I preordered this. However, I was very much looking forward to your critique. How can any person who owns an Arcade1Up complain about 50 games? It is insane lol. So, What would have happened if Unico took out one of the main Genres like every Fatal Fury game to make room for the one-hit wonder games like Nam 1975? People would go insane! Everyone knows that Unico/New Geo had no choice but to include the main Genres as most paramount before considering anything else. One single thing I would like you you to pass on to Unico is, Please-Extra please- Pretty please SUBSTITUTE out Baseball Stars for Baseball Stars 2! Most excellent and fair review across the board. Everyone who has a dedicated space in their house for Arcade Machines should strongly consider getting a dedicated Neo Geo MVSX Arcade Cabinet. The issue with the games list is that even "non SNK published" games aside, there is more than half the library that is NOT fighters. And there isn't a good reason to have 30+ Samurai Showdown, King of Fighters, etc. games on there. It's like the Arcade1Up Golden tee was dumb because if you have 4 versions of the same game, you're just going to play the newest (best) one. It's why they will never make a cab with Pac Man and Ms Pac Man on it. Why would you ever play the inferior version? So with this cabinet, why do we need so damn many fighting games when for all series, the newest one is the best one and the others are just filler. These fighting games aren't like Metal Slug where all are "basically the same" but not actually the "same with improvements"

If you have a legends i dont really see a need for this. The cabinet doesnt look anything special. Arcade1up even though they have few games on the cabinets thats what makes us want more cabinets. The look of a street fighter 2 or mortal kombat dedicated cabs makes them cool for everyone who played them. Thats why arcade1up will sell multiple cabs because people will want more. If you buy this machine they might as well give you all the games you wont need to buy 2 neo geo cabs ever.

@@UnqualifiedCritics Quick point of interest on some KEY INFO when freeze-framing the teaser trailer... looks to be WI-FI with preloaded icons of available games with a DOWNLOAD option!! Also, in the frame, you can peep out a price on the game icons - seems they are priced at 10.00 per game! The two that are viewable are Yahtzee and Chess, both showing at 10.00.

Slowdown is normal. I have an mvs and metal slug 2 is the worst contender of this. its why they re released it as metal slug X.

4:3 makes such a difference 5:4 ratio is a big let down. The original MVS looked beautiful back in the day in the arcade. I'm happy with my Neo Geo Arcade stick pro. It's hard to justify this purchase for me. I think they should of offered a coin sticker instead for bartop mode that way it would be optional and when you get the pedestal you would only show one pair of coin slots.
I love Neo Geo but I have the Neo Geo Mini and a Modded cab so I have too many ways to play these games... would make a nice edition but the 5:4 Ratio is the real deal breaker for me.

    • @UnqualifiedCritics
      @UnqualifiedCritics  3 года назад

They tried a sticker but wouldn't adhere properly so they went with the molded piece. And to be fair, there is a 4:3 letterbox mode (the letterboxing is small so its not really noticeable)

@@UnqualifiedCritics Cool, but its a 17 inch screen its small enough. They could of made a panel with a decal not hard to do and reverse it if you don't want the decal that's actually what I do with my arcade1up if I ever want to go back to the stock look.
Nice video tho I respect your opinion but We can agree to disagree 😊 I'm not a fan of the price tag, the flaws are just too much for me at that point I could just get just get a 50 cab and get a full skin on it or buy an original off eBay with a 161 in 1 cart and it would be cheaper. I really wanted to love this product the 6 button layout just kills the Nostalgia not the same... I'm picky but more power to whoever gets it... It is eye candy and that's the best thing it has going for it

just got mine today, the games are so pixeled they look like crap, and the control panel with the joysticks is so small it hurts my hand to use it, total let down, pass on this junk

The buttons feel very nice? You must be reviewing a different version of this machine than Mad little pixel. His review clearly shows what complete disasters they are. Eh?

    • @UnqualifiedCritics

Was almost a good comment but then I see a passive aggressive eh so 2/10 lame comment. We had two different physical units and I can't speak to his or his preferences or his anything but my buttons felt very good and significantly better than Arcade1up quality, as a reference. If you're suggesting I was shilling, which you are, then go somewhere else. I don't shill and I also don't care

I have an AES, Framemister and an MVSX.
I’ve spent a lot of money chasing the “authentic arcade experience”.
The answer is, CRT. Without it, you are just polishing turds.

Garbage I’m having a custom one built $2600 70 games all the way up to ps4 wii and switch added in along with many systems

Sounds too much like ppl who dismiss console gaming because they could build a $4k pc that would be better. That doesn't make this garbage. Plus playing ps4 on arcade isn't my cup of tea but I'm sure it'll be a badass system at that cost so I respect your hustle!
