- Today, we discuss the upcoming Season 3 releasing in less than 14 days, and I give my honest review of how Season 2 went for both casual and competitive players. What needs to change for THE FINALS to grow?

When I first downloaded it in Season 1 i thought it was just gonna be generically boring like Apex and Valorant. The Finals has been my daily go to and I havent had as much fun since Black Ops 2. I really hope it has a long life going forward

Agreed, I played the finals when it 1st came out and I was confused, so I didn't give it a chance. But I started playing xdefiant a little and it sparked the flame to play FPS's then I remembered about the finals and tried it again. To be honest that's all I've been thinking about . No game is the same and there are so many varieties. I don't mind paying for the skins

The Horizon map is 100% a nod to the like “80’s Tron” type thing. I loved it.
I will always stick with Embark and THE FINALS, the game is so unique and I really hope this game blows up and the developers get the love they deserve

In an otherwise busy year for work and as a new dad, one thing I could rely on was hopping on the finals for a few hours a night on the weekends and play with my brother and a couple buddies; great gameplay and a lot of memories for such a short time being out

I got into the game like a month or 2 ago and have to say its some of the most fun I've had in a video game in a while

After playing a bit of cod I realised how much they hold your hand, no recoil guns made me so much worse
Yeah I get what you mean, there’s also a tonne of arguments on the shooting in THE FINALS too, I personally got used to it pretty quickly
I likely WON'T be coming back until some changes are made. mainly, i just don't get the same excitement that i used to get when i played the game. I think this is mainly because of spawns as half the time you're spawned all the way across the map from the objective, plus the longer respawn times. it gives players less chances to take the cash out and its more running and waiting then actually playing the game, so the only way to consistently win and have fun is to be dominate on you opponents and not die. this is why people care so much about meta loadouts now, as they need the best setup to survive and kill their opponents consistently, which destroys the creativity and ability to play the game how you want of the game. it's the reason why medium and heavy are mainly used, as they bring high survivability to the team. i remember being able to movement perfectly to just barely steal the cashbox at the end of the game, but now that's literally impossible, and most of the time now i sit in a spawn completely across the map from the vault emoting, knowing there isn't a single chance in the universe that i will win. i think that people would care less about meta if the game was exciting to play like it was in the past, and they would have more chances to win using their own unique loadout. i don't even care about what the devs do with the meta, because most of the fun i got wasn't when i was shooting my gun, but rather when i was working together with my team to steal the vault, but now my team can't even get to the vault in time, let alone steal it. by capping players with a 26 second respawn time and a marathon to get to the cash box, the devs are literally limiting all the action that players could potentially bring to the game. that same excitement was also nerfed when defib was given that weird respawn timer effect, as rather then being able to change the tide of the game instantly by bringing back your teammate, now you just have to watch then slowly spawn only to die immediately. yes, i understand though that it needed a nerf, but i think that making defib a special ability rather then a gadget would be way better of a nerf. to summarize, when i play the game now it just feels very monotone; there are no clutch plays, and usually and the best team most of the time just dominates the others, meaning that everyone else has to wait for respawn and run just to get one more chance at the cash box. if i wanted to play that style of a monotone competitive game where the best player and loadouts win, i would play a game like call of duty, but i don't. if you want that even more summarized..."The finals, a gameshow that is mainly centered around excitement, is having the action that creates excitement bottlenecked". also if i was to add back these shorter respawn, i would only add it to causal, like quick cash, as competitive player would likely get winy about it. this would mean that casual player can play in quick cash for a action packed experience, and competitive can play in competitive to show their skill, allowing for both sides of the community to have fun. if anyone read through this, thank you very much and feel free to flame me down in the replies lol. 🤣
Edit: this is not to flame the devs or anything, as i think that the game is definitely improving and the devs are putting a lot of care into the game, especially with ranked getting a smaller server size, but this is just the main issue i have with the game at the moment.
gold in his word. True af buddy. 30 sec respawn time sucks. I really hope they will reduce it to 4-5 seconds, with a bit closer spawns. Not too close, but not too far. It will give a second breathe to the game
Hooollyyy wall of text lol, I gotchu though I like reading what everyone has to say aha. Yes I agree that the respawns in this game need a massive overhaul. Something crazy, literally last night we had a cashout active, got wiped but it wasn’t stolen due to third parties, and we spawned even further away from it, closer to the other cashout that was active lol.
Yes that’s my point with the games state right now, if you get started do a few games etc, there isn’t really also any player interaction it’s almost as if you’re forgotten in the game, no “hey this sponsor wants to sign you” or “you’re starting to make a name for yourself out there” etc. I think the crowd should react a lot more to what’s going on in the game too, like imagine hearing ooooooooooOOOOOOOOO as you’re trying to steal or something, especially when you’re about to clutch that would go hard
can't believe the new season is coming in less than 2 weeks man. i wish i could play so badly but had to get my laptop repaired 2 weeks ago and im still waiting for it. hoping it come in before the season ends

RE: CNS -- i think that CNS is kind of like the resistance that you see in the movie, "The Running Man". In that movie, there was a similar faction that was also trying to put the damper on the network for the games that were being played on the television network ICS.
To me, it's interesting Meta, that from time to time, could be implemented.
That said, I also agree that the gameshow should be fleshed out, as should the "athlete" aspect, as there are aspects of this game that could be seen as sport.
"The Running Man" is the obvious inspiration for The Finals. Same font, same bright red background over white letters.
running man is basically the grandpa's version of the finals even the cns logo looks similar to ocs

Great video thiixy!! Going on with your point about it not feeling like a gameshow, I really hope they don't change scotty and June's voices again because they really sounded off compared to previously and even though I play with them off when I watch videos it's a bit weird
Yeah I spoke in a podcast on this before that I've noticed they keep changing the voices, even when you load into the practise range for example. The first time I heard Junes voice it actually felt pretty natural but now it just feels a little different. Maybe there's a lore reason why this is happening?

Why? Because I never stopped playing. This is the best FPS to come out in years, and people are seriously sleeping on this game. They've made so many great changes and updates to this game. It just gets better and better. I can't wait to see where this game goes in the future!

Yeah it's crazy how many times I've had to explain people what this game is, and then how much they enjoy it, like wtf is happening... I hope it goes the real enjoyment it deserves across the board :)
I started playing recently and I'm addicted! I have everything unlocked already but I enjoy it so much so I'm still playing. I think it's an amazing game.

It's a great game to play on the side of my main games when i need a break with the grind. Also, the customization, i absolutely love with how as the game goes on i see more and more unique characters.

The reason ill continue playing is because they only 2 season in and absolutely killing it. I see huge potential for the future. This is one the only games as of late that actually feels like, a bunch of computer science nerds working on a game (which is when games were good) rather than a bunch of 40 year old men in suits in a conference room discussing how to raise their stocks.

I would watch the crap out a twitch rivals tournament for the finals. Ever since cb1 ive always seen this game as a competitive one and i cant wait for the finals esports to really become a thing.

My thoughts on balance is more game modes and variety is a good thing. It would divide the player base, but as long as a weapon is good somewhere its fine. The SAS12 shotgun might be horrible in powershift, but good elsewhere and that's fine. Not every weapon can be balanced in every mode, but weapons can't be broken in a mode.
Yeah I agree with that, I do think that sometimes players do over-react a lot initially to changes, without actually trying it out. For example, the heavy mesh shield nerf. Sure it was nerfed but it’s still pretty decent lol

Tbf, if we really get a spectator (the fact that the Twitch rivals is happening makes it one hell of a hint) then we as creators / competitive players would be able to start rolling tournaments for everyone.
The state of the game is good, what we need is marketing and the spectator mode along with a good ranking system to give people a goal to achieve in the long term.
Also, as a dev (made overlays/discord bots to show your rank in TF), I would like to see more data being usable by us. So that we would enhance the experience for everyone.
I'm still a believer in the game, hope that season 3 checks most of the marks !
100% couldn't agree with you more, I think that we have a really nice solid foundation of a game here, sure there are some things annoying on a deeper level (balance etc) but really I think we can get over it most of the time, it's not like anything is completely busted etc, just kind of annoying. But yeah I'm a real nerd too for the data side of things, I'd love to even see an expansion on stats :D
Season 2 was a good season we got new stuff and a map that became one of my top 3 favorite maps but there was a small moment where the game was boring then we got terminal and i had fun again and im excited for season 3 and the new stuff coming
Yeah it was like a wave in and out for enjoyment, mostly in and yeah I agree it was a little stale for a small period of time
I agree with the matter of the finals losing the gameshow aspect of it, and terminal attack being a good option for a ranked mode. My idea was to bump every game mode to 5v5 and have the tournament be a gauntlet of game modes that have to be fought this would actually help with things like stagnant metas and team diversity because you have to pack into the ranked with a loadout that can actually run the gauntlet like a medium could use a heal beam but the moment they run into a terminal attack they have no specialization, Lights would be more common with modes like bank it, power shift and terminal attack being always in play the only thing that is consistant across the game modes is the heavy and thats where they could focus nerfs once they have variety up.
5v5 cashout sounds interesting… perhaps with multiple vaults active
5v5 cashout actually would be interesting... Yeah I agree with you though I think that there's just such a shift right now with ranked vs unranked and gamemodes can definitely be the solution to change it up
This game has brought back the competitive FPS itch i've had for a long time and i hope the community stays strong and keeps this game alive because i will feel so defeated if it doesn't. It's far from perfect right now but the devs have been so consistent in fixing and balancing everything that they deserve all the credit of a successful game. Much love to Embark and thank you for this gem of a game.

Term attach ranked should add a sapphire or deep emerald color rank. You can hit “ruby” or Diamond in cash out the. Go for emerald in term attack.
It would be cool if we could vote on what the community rewards are for a season. Would you imagine the hype of the frog set was part of the community event? Not that I’m particularly excited for it, I’m more happy that the community got what they wanted, but doing something similar for the community events would be more powerful imo

Terminal Attack is my future with The Finals. I grind objectives on power shift and I play terminal attack as my main mode.

Healing beam issue is not a console only issue, it comes in PC day to day 😕 and you also get this issue when the firing button doesn't work & starts working when either you die or kill someone with utilities
Heal beam bug definitely happens on pc too.
Not often for me at least, but I had it like 2 nights ago in middle round of a tourney. Started working again when final round loaded.

Good video, I like your ideas and that black market one especially. Also it’d be cool if they tweaked Terminal Attack with smaller maps, could be dedicated ones or just block out the current ones. Maybe have a casual party version with different events going on to have that game show feel
Yeah exactly something that gives something more to grind towards and a nice use case for the VR, CNS Black Market also sounds really cool haha :D
All 3 modes should be competitive. Tounaments could consist of all three - would be sick. Rich with strategy/team and player strengths and weaknesses.
I kinda get burnt out when I finish the season's pass, but after the short break, I'm always glad to sneak my way back in, regardless of the questionable balancing decisions.
Couldn’t agree more with Embark over reaching when it comes to nerfing. The only reason the stun gun would be viable is to stop cash outs, other than that you’re better off running something else. Now the APS just became obsolete. Super strange how they test these things out and decide it’s balanced.

I wish they would improve the movement in this game, I know we spoke about it briefly but the fact that they remove super glides and the ability to zipline jump during the second beta just kills the game for me a bit, I feel like bringing down the movement for skill expression to make the barrier of entry in this game a little bit of a downer, game developers need to understand that coddling casual players will just make people who tend to be better at FPS games bored and return to games like apex like me and quiet a lot of people I know from the community.
Everyone is trying to love the game and I’m happy that they keep bringing in ways for everyone to play now just add back movement and I’ll be happy
Yeah I get what you're saying, I think I've just gotten used to it but I agree that they can expand on it a little more, something people were talking about was wall running etc too, wall bouncing as another example.

My friend yesterday if they just had some type of collision with the wall to add some type of friction so if you need to climb at a angle just anything else this game just consistently feels clunky to me
Yeah especially when the building are falling etc, it's reaaaaly clunky moving around some walls you can't climb some you can lol
I used to be a BIG Apex guy and The Finals has taken that spot. I haven't played Apex since. I love The Finals so much.

imagine a gamemode with one heavy with like 1000 health, and a bunch of low health lights that try to hunt him down, while the heavy tries to survive a certain amount of time

There's an idea that I have. For a player like me who likes to play dress-up, an extra character slot would be a huge driving force to purchase the battlepass as we create more and more characters with different outfit and loadout. This is the only game out of so many others that got me to spend real money on just cosmetics, and that should say something about how skins are designed for this game. I really enjoy the gameplay, everything, so I hope the devs would consider making use of that VR money to purchase additional slots.
100% I think they are looking into giving players more room for expansion in this area too, more outfit slots are needed!
7:16 healing beam is issue in pc too. It even extends throughout entire ranked matches as you progress - so annoying

I like competitive modes in games but my only issue with it is when the game gets super competitive at higher ranks and with metas included, games are played more like chess than the game they are. The finals has too many fun physics and gadgets to be reduced to a meta chess game where you can’t deviate from meta.
I agree with you but at the same time there’s beauty in chess, in that there’s so many different outcomes. I would say not to worry as much, and the reason why is because if you take CounterStrike for example; the game is very limiting to what you can do. Yes there’s smokes, moli, boosts etc. but at the end of the day, you can break a wall to get a unique angle or throw a barrel into a player etc. that slight randomness aspect is still going to be there in this game and it makes the higher levels more interesting imo

The finals is awesome! The biggest issue with the game now is the bugs. If they fix the crashing and bugs, it will be a contender for the best multiplayer games on the market.
I'm telling you, in ranked there should be balance teams. 1 light 1 medium and 1 heavy for every team within ranked.

heal beam bug is not console only. My brother and I play on PC (he uses a PS5 controller so maybe it's a controller problem?) and it happens to him so often that he stopped using the heal beam altogether.
Healing beam bug also happens on pc. I’ve only had it happen twice though and it fixed itself in game. The sprint bug still happens and that’s quite frequent
Ranked should be like rocket league. Multiple options, different ranks for each mode, many options to queue. That’d be the most fun imo
FINALLY someone acknowledges the damn healing beam! I’m in PC and it happens to me so much. But I love this game, I’m actually really good at it (I suck at most fps) and I’m so excited for season 3.
Ps. Screw xdefiant, the finals is so much better and it’s ENTIRELY DIFFERENT Ubisoft just made their own cod with apex mixed in it’s 🗑️

I love this game but I do agree with your comment about not feeling like a contestant anymore. And I get its like the game got taken over but it may have been a step too ahead of the gameshow if that makes sense

personally i want to see them have an option for ranked with role queue HML (1 heavy, 1 medium, 1 light on each team). This will make balancing easier and takes away meta HHM, MMH, MMM which just crushes all but the very very best light players. They can keep the open queue for ranked that they currently have but not everyone enjoys playing with or against the current meta, and role queue would help with that.
Yeah I understand with what you’re saying, I think that Embark really want the “freedom” for all players, so let’s see what happens with that
@@THiiXY like i said, keep open queue for those who want the creativity and don't mind the meta, but create a role queue as well for those that like more balanced gameplay. Overwatch did the same thing and now most people exclusively play role queue.

I completely agree with what you said about the horizon map doesn't feel like were in this big stadium competing in this big tournament. i hope they make the horizon mad into such a map, when CNS has been pushed back or whatever. ALSO - all the destruction is the reason why i felt in love with the game. building falling apart right over hour head. In horizon the building parts just vanish :i i am NOT a fan of that map in terms of overall feel. Great video as always ^^

The finals is a really great free to play game and the improvements are amazing.
Sad, all my squad left this game. I don't blame them coz this game has so many bugs lately, they're breaking the game after every update instead of fixing old existing bugs.
Let's see what happens in Season 3, maybe it will be enough to bring them back?
I think for the APS, instead of consuming 40% make it 15% or 10%. It’s way more balanced and strong that way in my opinion, you’d still get 7 or 10 APS missiles depending on the 15% or 10%. And maybe, just maybe.. reduce the cooldown time a tiny bit.

That healing beam bug has been happening to me for months and I’m on pc. No idea why it happens but if you leave and reconnect (in ranked) the healing beam works again.

I've had the healing bug on pc a few times in the past, but I don't think it's related to the healing beam itself, when you try to grab arena carriables too fast while doing other actions, it sometimes bugs and locks you in holding them without them being in your hand, they somehow disappeared and the game waits for them to be in your hand, so when you switch back to a weapon or gadget or spec, you can't actually left click, until the carriable either decides to go back to its original position, or finally come in your hand. I don't know if it's been fixed because I've had it happen seldom lately, but yeah, it happened in the past.
I currently cant play Finals :c I always crash from a Directx12 failure. i hope they fix it soon

The terminal attack mod is awesome, it feels competitive unlike ranked tournament but I wish it had more work done to it, just the clutter and getting stuck is unbearable

I was addicted to the finals when it first came out. I stopped playing when they nerfed nukes and the heavy class shield/rpg. Played once or twice during season 2 but couldn't have fun with the nerfs. Probably won't be back for season 3 unless they bring the balance back to how it was in season 1 but still probably won't even if they fix that. So stupid that a heavy can 1 shit themself with an RPG but not a light class.
All I have been wanting since launch is some performance optimizations. We shouldn't have to upgrade our CPU's just to get "ok" fps. Each update seems to lower fps every time.

Imo the main problems with the game are:
- very long seasons (3 months of skins but no actual gameplay content)
- lack of weapon choices
- no 120hz for consoles
- difficult to run
- no official pro tournament scene from the game

Maybe they could make different modes as part of the tournament. For example you start with cash out and the winning teams will proceed to terminal attack
Hmmm maybe but Terminal Attack is 5v5, maybe 3v3 on smaller map isn’t a bad idea?
They should add a game mode rotation for ranked, between terminal and cashout, (rotation like in apex)

I noticed something in a lot of the opening beta videos for the game there is tons of lore and skins and weapons that aren’t in the game .
Yes, a lot of it is rolling out eventually or canned from the game, I think due to legal or something like that
If they add another rank and make ranked games competitive I’ll be grinding this again, right now there’s no reason at all to load up the game, no reason at all to grind for diamond 1, no twitch rivals yet, no publicly known supported tourneys, I had high hopes for this game but nothing is looking promising anymore unfortunately. The whole premise of this game is to compete the fact embark are still sleeping on this is ridiculous.
Let’s see what happens in Season 3, I think they’re going to go all in for it
I think that all modes should be ranked because it would allow casual players to actually be able to play ranked.
i really enjoyed the closed beta, open beta, season 0, and season1, but in season 2 after they made some buff to the weapons, i wasnt able to play properly anymore thats why i left the game and started playing xdefiant, but maybe s3 is goona be good i hope to return to it

Exactly! It gets players to play and use specific weapons too, which is nice because sometimes it can convert from the FCAR, Lewis, XP-54 only metas

I think the biggest mistake they made was making the weapons take long to kill, I had so much fun getting into intense gun fights on rooftops at long range on Monaco but now that is just not the case every fight is more effective at close range it's just boring!
Yeah longer TTK was exhausting, especially when they had the instant revive lol that was hell

I think they can add some in game event or i don't what it's called like slow motion mode or bounty hunter that it target's the player with best scores in combat and elinimations for all pf the players in game and by killing hin they can get some money instantly.

Ok here me out! a 10v10 terminal attack where you have three lives 2 decryption codes and 3-4 options of places to decrypt. Everyone starts with the basic weapons so M11, Akm and M60. As you get kills decrypt and stop decryptions you get coins and buy new weapons and gadgets!
Hmmm I don't dislike the idea, I'd have to play it first to see how it would feel :D Honestly I enjoy Terminal Attack but if the majority of players don't then I'd be happy to see some alternatives :)

Love the game but as solo gamer it's hard to play and enjoy tbh. While playing on console, finding a stack team is not easy. Solo ranked or more casual game modes are needed for sure.

healing beam bug isn't just a console issue. fixed it by restarting the game.

Hmmm, I’m not sure because at the end of the day, most players want consistency with how they grind for something, and if they’re solo queuing for example with 3 players on their team but it could be a shout

This game was really fun for me & then they didn’t really change much for medium that was viable so got pretty bored when season 2 dropped . Well got bored before and then it tried season 2 and never got back on

I'm hoping a lot of these comments are genuine and not just bots repeating "XDefiant bad" and whatnot. Besides that, I'm not lettin this game go. Its the only game at this point that I've ever actually bought a battlepass for. And damn did I not regret it. I just really hope it keeps a sustainable playerbase. Doesn't need all the players in the world, just enough to keep it goin
May you explain to me? I try replying to every comment I can because I like being close to my viewers hearing what they have to say about the game etc, I’ve probably only seen like three comments about XDefiant in 250 I’ve replied to.
