This helps so much, I've just moved across to Rekordbox after 18 odd years on Traktor and got a DDJ 400 to test the system. Was going down the 800 path, though now after this review the 1000 must be it. Really great video that gets to the points. Nice.
Excellent fun and informative video. Thanks for doing this. I just got the DDJ-1000 based on your video and some other research. I was mulling it over and Amazon suddenly put it on sale for $999 so I pounced. I’ve never used anything like this before-just Virtual DJ on Automix and plain old players and a mixer before that. I have a lot to learn!
Great video, I'm waiting for my 1000-SRT to arrive, a couple weeks to go so I'm getting excited watching all the positive reviews for the original 1000. I rocked on Numark's NS7 & NS7II for my mobile gigs and was very happy with them up until recently when my NS7II couldn't be repaired and support has been dropped. So word, looking forward to my 1000-SRT. Thanks for the videos I'll be going thru your channel now for more.
Great, in-depth review as always Terry. I look forward to your videos, sharing your honest prospective. I’ve been using Serato and RB (thumb drive) for many years. RB has come a long way, Pioneer has invested a lot of time/research/money to make it a fully featured DJ software. However, to me the stone cold killer is going to be the Denon Prime 4 controller. I saw and spent time with it at NAMN and it’s amazing. Denon has truly listened to DJ’s and it exceeds expectations. The Prime Engine software is also very Intuitive and has a fantastic work flow. This is the future, Its going to force Pioneer to innovate. In the very near future the Prime 4 will be Serato and Virtual DJ compatible (with a laptop). Once released it will accept, all of the Serato meta data, queue points, folders, etc without external conversion making it very easy to convert.
Just picked up my DDJ 1000 last week w/ 20% off. I think that was a fair price, yes? I used a Pioneer Wego 3 for 5 years, picked up the DDJ 400 and now the DDJ 1000. This unit will keep me excited for a while. Thanks for your input.
Thank you for this. I'm considering switching from Serato to Rekordbox due to this controller. It really has everything I want/need in a controller. I've been djing jungle/drum and bass since 96 and was vinyl only until maybe 2005 or 2006. I took some time off from djing from 2010-2020 but now am back and streaming 2-3x week on Twitch while in lockdown. Ive been using a Numark MixDeck Express because it can function without a laptop which had me considering the Denon Prime 4 as an upgrade. However, I'm leaning more towards the DDJ-1000 because, if/when things get back to normal I want to be more familiar with what's in all the clubs these days. Thank you for such an in-depth review. I've already seen enough about the DDJ-1000SRT that it's not even a consideration anymore. Pioneer clearly wants people using Rekordbox.
Hi Cleveland Terry, I couldn’t agree more, I’m a long time mobile dj, still got the sx2, used serato for years, but I bought the DJ 1000, around 8 months ago and WOW, different level from the sx2, now fully moved over to RB and use that solely for my wedding/birthday gigs etc, (I do use vdj for karaoke with a dj2go2 controller) I cant bring myself to sell the sx2 yet? Dunno why, nostalgia? perhaps because I used serato for so long, it’s like your favorite old pair of sneakers!, but I never play out with it. Great vlog as always. Keep em coming. From. English DJ in Spain!
@@k9chance250 Hi, yeah i used RB with my SX2, but i do prefer using the software that the controller was designed for, with the exception of VDJ, which works great on everything.
Oh also, sorry to keep commenting, but the positioning of the 3rd microphone on an SX3's front; the reasoning behind it is that it is easier to access if you needed to quickly add a 3rd microphone. Reaching to the back can be tricky and sometimes risky during a gig. Let's say the MC has one mic, and the best man is doing a speech with the other, but you had to quickly make an announcement. You can quickly plug a microphone and do a quick blurb, and easily disconnect it. The front wire sticking out can be remedied with an L cable or an L adapter. I get it's not the most preferred way, but that's why you have channels 3 and 4 for the other ones.
You're very right. Pioneer is beyond done with serato. I'm sure they will crap out some obligatory controllers for it still, but it's obvious with the "club standard" layouts they are using that they want you to feel burdened by using anything which isn't pioneer. I really appreciate the reviews. Screw the haters. It is, definitely, what you do with whatever software you use. Which is why you need the one you like best. Way easier to have fun and play a good dj set if you enjoy what you're doing it on. Some prefer a straightforward experience (serato), some prefer a fair deal of customization (rekordbox), some want to hack the hell out of it (traktor), and some like the most cutting edge features and/or ugly appearances (vdj). I am even looking forward to your rekordbox review, even though I already chose to use that as my primary software, lol.
I just switched from the RX2 to the DDJ 1000 and haven’t looked back. What a sick controller and loving the 4 channels, DVS capability and jog wheels. Miss the convenience of popping in my USB stick and going but doesn’t outweigh the Pros
I've had my DDJ-1000 for 3yrs now and I love it my first controller. I also have my turntable's with the Phase controller hooked up to it using Rekordbox
I had the exact same experience as you. Been spinning on turntables for 20 years. Got the Pioneer DDJ SX when it first came out and went digital, but some how wasn't 100 % satisfied with the jog wheels. Got the DDJ 1000 when it first came out. I have been using it for about year and a half and love it, love it, love it!!!! DJ'ing is so much fun again. Honestly my Technic 1200's have a little dust on them since my 1000 came home. Great review and I second your notion of Rekordbox being solid and legit software. It even adds the bonus of exporting tracks to USB sticks and playing on cdj's or another friends laptop running Rekordbox. It's the bomb. Thanks again for the review.
I just upgraded to DDJ 1000 from my SX2 yesterday! I love the thing. I’m still testing out rekordbox. And I don’t have any complaints coming from serato.
I have the Ns7II and been using serato for 10 yrs. I recently bought the DDJ 400 and fell in love with Rekordbox. The 1000 is my next controller hands down....
Ive had the DDJ1000 for about a year and a half and its everything ive ever wanted. Coming from 2 cdj 900s and a djm 700...still like serato a little better but its not enough to not get the controller you want! Beautiful controller and performs as well and it looks.
Superb as usual Terry, I think you might have just convinced me to hang on and go for the DDJ-1000 (after spending almost a year constantly looking at the SX3 Vs DDJ-1000 and now the SR2 Vs DDJ-800). An honest review and solid advice on the main differences and benefits, Thanks!
I really like the look of the DDJ 1000. Like you Cleveland I didn't want to get it because it was RB only. I've been on Serato for some time now and currently use and NS7III and really like it. I want something that weighs less and good features and large jog wheels. After your review I will give the Pioneer unit a closer look. Great informative review.
Thank you for this! Like many out there I'm dying to get my hands on the DDJ-1000. Had waited a bit when I heard rumours of the DDJ-800 but was totally disappointed specifically by the fact that the jogs are smaller and the technology is different. Was going to buy the SX3 but will rather save up and get the DDJ-1000. Don't really care much for the mic inputs and the tech there, but all in all, THIS is my next controller! Nice review!
I agree 1000% I bought it having never used Rekordbox, but figured it was dope enough that I'd force myself to learn. Which I did, but there's a lot I still have left to figure out..........the one thing that keeps me from using it more regularly is I can't figure out how to get cues to stick if I put them in a loop. Once I hit tap the cue pad more then once, the loop is removed.....I know there's probably a way to get around it. I just haven't figured it out........GREAT VIDEO though as always.
Kudos! what an excellent review. I was planning on the DDJ-1000 but not Serato compatible stop me. But, still just like you, I fall in love with 1000 and the price is right. The 1000 would be my future controller. Thank you.
Nice video and review. I'm thinking about buying it. How is the performance of DDJ-1000 if you try to connect two Technics SL-1200 on it?. I've seen there are 'phono' inputs. Is good the performance?. Best!
I didn't realize you owned the DDJ 1000. When I saw your video about it, you liked it but didn't like the fact it was RB only. I informed you and others that Pioneer future DJ systems will only use RB software. I am glad you like the DDJ 1000 but mostly you like the RB software. I'm looking forward to your review of the software. Thank you for sharing your love for 1000.
Unless you want to use turntables and also play analog vinyl with it. The built - in pre-amps are probably worst on the market for this scenario. As officialy stated by Pioneer: "..the pre-amps are for digital signal / DVS. For analog buy and use external RIAA pre-amps". Really? On a 1000€ controller?
Great video, this video convinced me to finally upgrade after years on my SX. I think it will be a great asset during my gigs. Many thanks for your perspective!
I will buy the DDJ 1000. You convinced me. Damn dude this look is cool. Just scrim down the two splashes a little. HouseNation since 1987. OG, 1st gen CDJ1000s for years. Serato since Live 1.1
Its 2021 now. Im worried about buying this and then they come up with a new one! or a new XZ with 4 channel capability (for example)... What you guys think?
I'm hooked. they hit it out of the park with the DDJ-1000. when I heard about the Denon Prime and it's features I thought for sure I'd prefer it over a DDJ-1000 and nope. that screen on the Prime is no better than a 2- in-1 latop/tablet so I'd rather have the Pioneer and a tablet than the Prime mainly because of the form factor of the DDJ. I'm no Pioneer fanboy but I really think they did this one right.
nice talking points terry. i grabbed the ddj1000 the month it came out. i used to be on the traktor side of the fence with my s4mk2. i agree that the jog wheels on the ddj1000 will not make you miss your turntables, but i bought the dvs option just to have it. what is weird with the dvs though is that it does not enable you to emulate the tt stop sound when pressing the start/stop button on the 1200. traktor has a better implementation on this. moving from traktor to rekordbox was a bit of a pain at first as i didnt have rekordbuddy, but it made me trim down my collection (as i had to rebuild it from scratch) to the bare essentials. one year later and i am still enjoying this controller. best jog wheels on the market! i also agree that if you could save up for the 1000, get it instead of the 800. the magvel fader is not on the 800. btw, if you scratch a lot, then do skin your controller, at least for the mixer section. the acrylic top scratches very easily! even if you use the smoothest cloth to wipe it, you will introduce microscratches on it. the crossfader part of my ddj1000 looks bad now because of this. cheers!
Currently using a DDJ-400, but I really want to start playing with a third deck now. This thing looks absolutely fantastic. Proper jogwheels, all the effects at your fingertips and the possibility to add turntables or CDJs to it is awesome too. I suppose I gotta start saving up now...
Cleveland this is the exact same thing I went through and I’m so glad you made this video. I traded my DDJ-SX3 for the DDJ-1000 a few months ago and I have not looked back. The one thing I would add is that the Magvel cross fader is a big improvement over the standard cross fader on the SX3. Especially for scratch DJ’s. The only feature I’m missing in Rekordbox is that the playlist folders are not playable like they are in Serato. I didn’t know it will work with algoriddim djay software as well. I will definitely try it out. Keep the videos coming. Great job…
Thanks for this mate! I'm looking to buy the DDJ-1000 soonish, and your video was really helpful. I'm not pro whatsoever - took a long break from DJing on vinyl and only in the last couple of years got into digital DJing (ebay special DDJ-SB and Mixxx) and looking to upgrade. Going to look into Record Buddy - thanks for that suggestion too!
Welcome to the DDJ 1000 Club. I agree,it is a great controller. I use both Rekordbox and VDJ with it. I bought it November 2018 but i had issues getting the video to work with Rekordbox, then they assisted me, and it worked like a charm. Have fun🎶🎵🎧
I am currently using the ddj-sx and looking to upgrade. I have a chance to get a ddj-sz1 with a case or a ddj 1000srt for the same price. Which would you choose?
Absolute awesome review and Vlog - Just answered all those questions and doubts I have about switching from serato and an SX2 to either going for the upgraded SX3 or the 1000 & Rekordbox.....thank you. I am ready to now buy the 1000 but like most serato users were waiting to see if Pioneer bring out another controller like a sz3 or similar so we know their collaboration is still going. The SX3 was a big diapointment to say the least and im still reading bad reviews on it today, me like you wanted to just do and upgrade to that but Pioneer screwed us serato users and I think thats why we do not want to make a change - we feel let down
Man you remind me so much of my friend DJ M.I.B. He also switched from the SX to the DDJ-1000 about a year ago and also switched to Rekordbox from Tracktor at the same time. He lovesssss his 1000 and Rekordbox. Anyway, I also own the SX2 and the SR2. I use the SR2 as my main gigging controller, but I am very excited about the DDJ-800 mostly because of the placement of the mic controls. Anyway, great review here!!! I enjoyed it!
Hey Cleveland a big thanks for this video. Super useful! I'm planning to upgrade from a DDJ 400 to this controller and have the same question that you have asked "Is the Pioneer DDJ-1000 still worth buying?" Now that its been 2 years since its launch or is it better to wait as a new release might be in the pipeline?
I know you’re missing those mid band eqs on the mic channels. Here’s a tip you may or may not know. If you want to boost the mids, turn the lows and highs down and turn the gain UP. If you want to drop the mids, turn the low and highs up and the gain DOWN. It’s all relative, so this gives you nearly the same eq curves. Enjoy!
The professor on deck, hello Cleveland✌ Thinking of purchasing the XDJ-XZ because it has a send input where I can connect a DJS-1000. For the sake of saving money, if I purchase the Rekordbox DDJ-1000, will I be able to hook up a DJS-1000 to the unit ?
Good video can’t wait to see the review of Rekordbox. Maybe you should do a video on the comparison of Serato pro to Rekordbox that would be interesting and yes there are videos of that topic already but they are old videos. Thanks for the reviews.✌️
the video that I needed! I'm going to upgrade from my little vestax typhoon to ddj-1000 ... I think it will help me to be a better DJ and be more creative.
THANK YOU! Outstanding review, I think you verbalized much of what we’ve all been thinking for some time now. I’d love to see a review from you on Pioneer’s lighting interface with Rekordbox, the RB-DMX1... pros, cons, etc... thanks again
Great video. I have the DDJ-SX2 and really wanted the DDJ-1000 when it came out last year but I have big problem, and that is I'm a Windows user and Rekord Buddy 2 is only available for MAC OS right now. My library with all the cue points, saved loops, etc would all have to be redone if I wanted to get the DDJ-1000. That would take me HOURS.....hell, maybe a solid week to be honest. Just don't really want to do that.
I own a DDJ-RX since 5 years and use it with rekordbox. I am super happy with it, but I tested the DDJ-1000 last Friday and it is sooo nice.. What do you guys think?.. Does it make sense to sell my DDJ-RX and buy a DDJ-1000, or should I better wait for Pioneer to bring out a replacement of the DDJ-1000? It's so hard for me to decide, because the controller's release is already 2 years ago now...
Hello Cleveland ...Great review as always. I still use my SX2 and added the DDJ XP1 sub-controller to it which came with Rekordbox DJ software and it works very well. I am still saving up for the DDJ 1000 and would love to own it one day. I bet Pioneer will come out with another flagship controller to replace the SZ2 very soon to complete its line up for Rekordbox.
@@djel-g6389 The SX2 works very well with Rekordbox but in my opinion, the XP1 sub-controller (which comes with the full version of Rekordbox) is an affordable add on in order to access most of the Rekordbox features.
@@djel-g6389 ..sorry for the late late response but was digging through my email and seen this. but yes my SX2 works very well with rekordbox. Serato is great with turntables but rekordbox is great for me with my controller.
Nice vid CT.Can you please make a " how to use RB" . I had error problems with my usb stick in the club on the cdj's.That's why i use VDJ/Traktor/Serato in the club with the desired cables and my extern ssd without any problems. When i use the usb stick @ home on my cdj's..i have no problems at all.
I'm new to all this. I've been wanting to get the NS7III. But it was discontinued. I liked that it had motorized platters with a vinyl feel. So, I just got the DDJ 1000. But really wanted the NS7III. But it seems ancient compared to the DDJ 1000. The spinning vinyl always looked and feels good.

I am even looking forward to your rekordbox review, even though I already chose to use that as my primary software, lol.
I just switched from the RX2 to the DDJ 1000 and haven’t looked back. What a sick controller and loving the 4 channels, DVS capability and jog wheels. Miss the convenience of popping in my USB stick and going but doesn’t outweigh the Pros
was on the fence, thanks for the backup on my decision to get the DDJ1000! 4 channels FTW!!!!
I've had my DDJ-1000 for 3yrs now and I love it my first controller. I also have my turntable's with the Phase controller hooked up to it using Rekordbox
I'm going to get my DDJ-1000 in just three weeks from now, as soon as I get some more time to play with it. So excited! Thanks for the review.
Thank you CT! My Denon MC6000 took a dump and I needed to get another 4 channel and your video totally helped, thanks!
I have the Ns7II and been using serato for 10 yrs. I recently bought the DDJ 400 and fell in love with Rekordbox. The 1000 is my next controller hands down....
I went for the ddj 800. I think it’s perfect for bar gigs. I’d like the next iteration of the 1000 being that it’s already been out for 2.5 years
Man, you waited a year, I’m still waiting 😩. I do love everything about it. I got the DDJSX2
This video helped me a lot! I'm using the sx2 right now but dreaming about the ddj 1000 every night... thanks man
Ive had the DDJ1000 for about a year and a half and its everything ive ever wanted.
I'm still debating between the ns7iii and ddj 1000 RB
The NS7 just feels good man
I think i wanna have a little cry, I just hope , that when I'm ready , they are still making the DDJ 1000 ,
loved your review.
They will, it sells A LOT
Best!
Thanks man! appreciate your views!
I’ve never experienced people say the 1000 is bad. I have once, and it was over the DDJ 400. It is super rare for people hating on the controller.
Great review on the DDJ-1000, keep up the good work 👍
Bro, somehow i laughed all through your video. You obviously love the DDJ1000. Thanks a r the video. Subscribed
Great video, this video convinced me to finally upgrade after years on my SX.
I think it will be a great asset during my gigs.
Many thanks for your perspective!
I love everything bout my SRT1000,Pioneer have outdone themselves.💯
I will buy the DDJ 1000. You convinced me.
Damn dude this look is cool. Just scrim down the two splashes a little.
HouseNation since 1987.
OG, 1st gen CDJ1000s for years. Serato since Live 1.1
Its 2021 now. Im worried about buying this and then they come up with a new one! or a new XZ with 4 channel capability (for example)... What you guys think?
What a superb and enthusiastically honest review. Thank you! Subbed.
How has the transition to from Serato to RB? Do you also use RB DVS with turntables with your S9? How well does it work?
I had the DJJ 1000 when it first came out and I still like it it's a good machine..
I ordered today SRT version .......... I also have DDJ-SZ silver color, and I think is pretty much same thing in a different size.
@1CBRDUDE Yes, You will need to use Serato Video, which is included for free when you buy Controller DDJ-1000SRT. I think is only on first 5000 units.
Welp guess im gonna start saving for this beast
Was super frustrated to move to rekordbox but I LOVE this thing. Best money spent hands down.
Can you use the Serato Pitch 'n Time / Manual key correction feature in the SX2?
I'm hooked. they hit it out of the park with the DDJ-1000. when I heard about the Denon Prime and it's features I thought for sure I'd prefer it over a DDJ-1000 and nope. that screen on the Prime is no better than a 2- in-1 latop/tablet so I'd rather have the Pioneer and a tablet than the Prime mainly because of the form factor of the DDJ. I'm no Pioneer fanboy but I really think they did this one right.
Still hold true today? Do you think Pioneer is shifting everyone to Recordbox? I wouldn't mind but I love Serato Studio!!!
agreed bro. sucks pioneer is doing this and the srt is shit
nice talking points terry. i grabbed the ddj1000 the month it came out. i used to be on the traktor side of the fence with my s4mk2. i agree that the jog wheels on the ddj1000 will not make you miss your turntables, but i bought the dvs option just to have it. what is weird with the dvs though is that it does not enable you to emulate the tt stop sound when pressing the start/stop button on the 1200. traktor has a better implementation on this.
moving from traktor to rekordbox was a bit of a pain at first as i didnt have rekordbuddy, but it made me trim down my collection (as i had to rebuild it from scratch) to the bare essentials. one year later and i am still enjoying this controller. best jog wheels on the market! i also agree that if you could save up for the 1000, get it instead of the 800. the magvel fader is not on the 800.
btw, if you scratch a lot, then do skin your controller, at least for the mixer section. the acrylic top scratches very easily! even if you use the smoothest cloth to wipe it, you will introduce microscratches on it. the crossfader part of my ddj1000 looks bad now because of this. cheers!
DJ DLS Helpful tip about the skins. I’m new and didn’t know you could do that. Thanks!
Currently using a DDJ-400, but I really want to start playing with a third deck now. This thing looks absolutely fantastic. Proper jogwheels, all the effects at your fingertips and the possibility to add turntables or CDJs to it is awesome too. I suppose I gotta start saving up now...
fantastic review... best one i've seen on RUclips, thanks for the info. just got a 1000
Cleveland this is the exact same thing I went through and I’m so glad you made this video.
Is Serato DJ Pro due for a UI facelift ? It feels dated compared to Rekordbox 5.5 - also: my S9 sounds so much better running Rekordbox 🤔
I doubt it. They just came out with Serato DJ Pro. They are slow to make any drastic changes.
DDJ1000SRT any day.
You are doing a good Job Terry. Best of luck and keep it going.
🙏🏾
Great review man. Much musical love from Morocco.
So knowing you can get DDJ-1000 SRT which would you choose. I waited for the SRT and also love it
Hey Cleveland a big thanks for this video. Super useful! I'm planning to upgrade from a DDJ 400 to this controller and have the same question that you have asked "Is the Pioneer DDJ-1000 still worth buying?" Now that its been 2 years since its launch or is it better to wait as a new release might be in the pipeline?
I got one DDJ 1000 controller too and i fall in love everyday
I know you’re missing those mid band eqs on the mic channels.
Here’s a tip you may or may not know.
If you want to boost the mids, turn the lows and highs down and turn the gain UP.
If you want to drop the mids, turn the low and highs up and the gain DOWN.
It’s all relative, so this gives you nearly the same eq curves.
Enjoy!
Honest and simple review, thanks for the video
Would you recommend me the DDJ 1000
The professor on deck, hello Cleveland✌
Thinking of purchasing the XDJ-XZ because it has a send input where I can connect a DJS-1000.
I just got mine a few weeks ago, I LOVE IT
+Reagan Jeffries yeah it’s dope.
The best controller ever. And switching from Serato to Rekordbox is not a problem at all. Rekordbox is great too.
Great Review! Liked and subscribed. Keep them coming man.
Hi, do they need a laptop or use can just plug in n play with USB only?
Thank you. Ordering soon to start this 2021 the right way ;)
love your reviews and opinions.
the video that I needed!
I'm going to upgrade from my little vestax typhoon to ddj-1000 ... I think it will help me to be a better DJ and be more creative.
tino2897 it will be like someone opened a door and sunshine came glaring through. Good luck on your upgrade
THANK YOU! Outstanding review, I think you verbalized much of what we’ve all been thinking for some time now. I’d love to see a review from you on Pioneer’s lighting interface with Rekordbox, the RB-DMX1... pros, cons, etc... thanks again
Maybe they’ll make me an ambassador and then I can review everything. :-)
It works with VDJ too
Great video.
Great review as always. Def a beautiful controller! But only reason for nor getting it yet is that i feel a new NS7 is on its way
Tell me more I'm running a 3 at the moment
Have you tried DVS with the 1000 rekordbox? Is the performance as good as Serato?
I own a DDJ-RX since 5 years and use it with rekordbox. I am super happy with it, but I tested the DDJ-1000 last Friday and it is sooo nice..
What do you guys think?.. Does it make sense to sell my DDJ-RX and buy a DDJ-1000, or should I better wait for Pioneer to bring out a replacement of the DDJ-1000?
It's so hard for me to decide, because the controller's release is already 2 years ago now...
this review is great, thank you !! Very helpful
How is the SX2 with Rekordbox?
@@djel-g6389 The SX2 works very well with Rekordbox but in my opinion, the XP1 sub-controller (which comes with the full version of Rekordbox) is an affordable add on in order to access most of the Rekordbox features.
@@djel-g6389 ..sorry for the late late response but was digging through my email and seen this. but yes my SX2 works very well with rekordbox. Serato is great with turntables but rekordbox is great for me with my controller.
I love the DDJ-1000 and you will too welcome to the club homie!
Watching this in 2020. You give me vision..... 🎧💖🙏🏽
Thank you for this great authentic review based on heart
Top notch review sir! I appreciate your attention to detail. Subbed.👍
