- Welcome to something a bit different on DriveTribe - a new TV show pilot! We have worked really hard on this one to make it arguably the biggest project we've ever filmed for the channel! Richard Hammond hates these two cars, so let him explain how he plans to 'cull the herd' and move the car industry in the right direction.

Thanks for watching everyone! We tried something a bit different here, bringing together the elements of a TV show on a RUclips budget! This was super fun and challenging to put together, and we hope you all enjoyed the result, see you all on the next upload 👍 - Mike
Reminded me of scrap heap challenge a bit but I enjoyed it. Would definitely watch again.
Puerile, childish and pointless.
The most fun I've had in ages. 10/10
Can't wait to watch it this evening. We know from experience that TV-levels of production can work on RUclips, but it's tricky. You've got the head start on the membership platform and subscriber base, which is the biggest hurdle. Looking forward to seeing what you do with this...
Did you borrow the Discovery Channel formula on purpose?
Well done guys, that was highly entertaining and very creative.
Why don't the bois get together a couple times a year for a 1 hour episode of "Conversation street"? It would break the internet!
Just don’t get Hammond started on the subject of his wife’s horse 😅
I can listen to them for 3 hours or more!
They would skyrocket in popularity if they did a podcast just rambling about anything
@@EresirThe1st It would probably become one of the worlds most popular podcasts after Joe Rogan.
@@zoidberg444 cough' you mean distractible or go my favourtie sports team ?
A Conversation Street Podcast with the boys would take the roads of the world by storm!
🤣
Much like the Dacia Sandero in left-hand drive did in its day
It will end up like their attempted radio show on TG - absolutely brilliant 🤣
The three of them interviewing guests too like that podcast Smartless.
And some no nonsense videos of James, Jeremy, and Richard just driving cars together, old or new, and arguing about which one is better. Doesn't need to be an epic road trip, that's what TGT is for, just the boys being themselves.
I think the biggest improvement could be a clearer idea of what the judging metrics are for the project before the teams start. Can’t wait to see the next episode!
I definitely want to see more of this. It reminded me a lot of Junkyard Wars and Scrap Heap challenge, which are still some of my favorite shows! This was so fun. I'd love to see challenges with the builds so there's something at stake. Either way, I'd still watch even if it was just a a bunch of nice people having fun building things.
Hardrian has been on scrap heap challenge a few times over the years
So glad I'm not the only one that almost immediately thought of Junkyard Wars/Scrapheap Challenge.
@@jonlukew I expect somewhere along the lines he suggested this challenge. An I do kinda hope we have a few more scrappy style challenges.
Exactly what I thought.... I loved those shows
yup! what i was thinking
Bring James May into the show and it'll be perfect. Let our man (James) talk about idk anything for hours and hours it might be something boring but still we'll watched it.
totally agree. James May would be a must have
Some James May waffle would be hilarious.
James May is the obvious choice to present it. Sorry Mike.
And Clarkson's inspiration room. From the other show that I don't remember 🤣
Yea, just get rid of Mike all together in a front of the camera capacity and just feature Hammond, Clarkson and May.
I think a great addition to the format would be that at the end of the episode, each team has to sell as many of their items as possible (maybe at a market, or pitching the items to businesses) and the winner be decided by how much of the car actually finds a new home.
Plus, the funds from selling the items could cover some of the production costs, or maybe there could be a bonus for the team that makes the most profit.
We did actually think about doing this, like a big charity auction at the end, but we simply couldn't squeeze it in time/budget wise. If it became a proper TV show with that size of budget we would definitely look into it as a nice way to end the show!
@@mikedrivetribe8314 That would be an amazing show. It would be funny seeing Richard try and convince people to buy the parts.
Not bad for a spam account.
I'd honestly like them to be proper boffins and innovate a real useful item out of old cars
One idea for a show that may be massively successful could be Richard and James visiting Clarkson's Farm and doing a segment where they are totally supportive of Jeremy and his farm related endeavors. Then, Jeremy and James visit The Smallest Cog and try to help Richard resurrect some classic MG or Jaguar with no sarcasm or swearing. The final step would be Richard and Jeremy visiting the Bugout Bunker and getting totally clattered on James Gin while eating Sandos from the 70s that James makes for everyone.
Basically the lads all being nice to each other and hanging out
This is a great idea, but I’d say it doesn’t matter how they behave. Just that they film together. That’s where the magic comes from, and it would be nice to see them in each one’s separate element apart from TG/GT.
It would be cool to see both teams go head to head to modify a car for a specific challenge but not completely dismantle them.
For example both make cars into pickups or make a car into an off roader or race car
Again that's similar to scrapheap challenge... Which was a Brill show! Get other RUclips teams on. Have a semi final and final.
Their was once a show like that. Called Top Gear 😂
I was thinking what are they doing. They're not car anymore at least keep the wheels on.
@@doubleL_S Well, at least on this episode, the purpose WAS to get rid of the car entirely. And make something out of the parts.
I thought they were going to take garbage cars and make them into something desirable. I guess they did, but they're not cars, anymore.
Really interesting a concept and loved watching it.
My primary fear is that each episode devolves into making art pieces. I think you need to become really creative on the challenges to mix it up. It would also be nice to see it sometimes end up in something driveable too.
Don't forget that Hammond has an Art diploma.
I think we all have to remember that it was Hammond's vehicle in the Grand Tour that was literally a moving garden that housed creatures and plant life.
This is absolutely epic! Really like a true tv show and enjoyed every bit of it. Can’t wait for another one and it would be tremendously better with James May leading another team haha.
I thought this was a great concept! What I loved most was the lack of manufactured drama. It was just a bunch of guys working hard and overcoming any issues as they came up without a bunch of over-the-top whining or gasps. Well done.
This has some proper scrapheap challenge vibes, love it. Definitely needs to be a full series
Especially with Hadrian on the other team
Was thinking that as well and honestly the second i started seeing this as scrapheap challenge i instently fell in love with the idea of it. i mean u can imagen the other kinds of challenge they could do i can honestly say i would love to see more of it
That was actually pretty cool. I'd like to see what you could have done with a week.
The pizza over was definitely the best part of both builds
i would buy it no joke it looks amazing, andrew really is something else
Here is another idea for a show: It's called Workshop Transformation. Two teams of welders and mechanics, race to tidy up a large classic car restoration workshop.
This was awesome. Like a modern day scrap heap challenge. You should 100% look at doing a colab with Bobby Llew over at Fully Charged given he's the former presenter and does a ton of stuff with electric cars these days.
Throw in Colin Furze and you've got yourself a hit tv show with the three of you, plus an absolutely massive estabished audience from the three channels.
Colin Furze is a great shout.
100%. Total Scrapheap Challenge feel. I'd love it
That assumes that people want stuff about cars. People watch Hammond, Clarkson, Wilman and May because of the Comedy, not the motors. So casting shouldn't have anything to do with who's talking about electric cars.
Loved it. Definitely scrapheap challenge meets grand designs meets 2022!! 100% a series in it 👏
This show was so watchable. Thanks to both teams for putting in a great effort.
More of this would be warmly received, well by me at least!
100% this MUST continue, please. I love the scrapheap challenge style of this and you've taken it and created something that I , and many others, will always want to watch
Scrapheap Challenge 2022. Love it guys. Can't wait for more.
Hammond running this channel
That was so clever! I really want to see a lot of more episodes and find what they all can do, but, of course, the really main thing is to see what hated cars are goning to disappear!!!! Excelent job you guys, everyone of you! Congrats!!!
I really appreciate all of this being in one great video and not turning this into a money grab
Very very much liked this, would absolutely watch this show either on youtube or elsewhere. Only suggestions would be to explain the creative brief a bit more so the audience, teams, and judges are all on the same page for the goal of the project, and then have a bit more explanation from the judges on why they chose the winner.
Absolutely brilliant. Reminds me of my favourite show Scrapheap Challenge. Excellent concept and very entertaining. You could get Robert Llewellyn involved.
Here's a show idea: It's called Hammond's Walkabout. Members of the Royal Family are invited to wander around Hammond's estate, where they point at things. Each time a guest points to an item, the editors repeat that scene in slow motion, about 8 times, from different angles. Two commentators explain what is happening in a voice over.
Awesome new concept. Love it!
It’s like watching Junkyard Wars again ^^
Very kool show - well done !!
The pizza oven was great.
gotta get james and jeremy in this, the figures will need a strong tether to hold them down , to be honest we have grand tour ,but once a week the trio together , well i think we all agree poetry.
I like the fact that it's a bunch of regular blokes and not heavily scripted. Keep thinking outside the box Richard!
Cool stuff Hammond. Also, is it only me or are we all just interested in nearly whatever any of the three decide to do?!
Great idea for a show. Big scrapheap challenge vibes, something that's missing from tv these days.
I want that pizza oven! Great show, amazing. Road trip to the lakes district, with the DriveTribe cars featuring Mike, Richard and May. Just drive and talk about cars, food, gin and beer!
Richard Hammond, one thing that stands out in all your videos is the lack of finish to your building ie doors and woodwork, surely if you set a high standard then the building and its cleanliness is paramount, just saying, love the program
This was great production and entertainment value. I think the teams needed to show a little more of their personality. Everything else wonderful and I can see it succeeding. I think each build should be named from both sides. But like Richard said in the behind the scenes “keep it natural let mistakes happen don’t force it.” And have some basic ground rules that must be followed which gives the show a little more organization. I like how the expert gives his input to help the teams along. If you don’t change anything It still works, but I think some tweaks will make it special. I show how many days they got left everyday I think would add some tension and helps the audience follow along. Love it guys well done.
The idea of the show is brilliant! Really enjoyed it and looking forward to it !
I don't care what you may have watched on You Tube or the TV today, but this video has got to be the rebirth of skillful imagination on the part of DRIVETRIBE's understanding of what make the viewer happy they spent the time entertaining themself for the last 48 minutes. Not to mention removing 2 hideous vehicles from our highways.
Honestly decent idea but I’d much prefer to see cars drive or something. Maybe you can do the themed challenges but keep the cars in running order and take them to local car shows to be reviewed by the public
it gives off scrapheap challenge and I love it!! there is defo a gap for something like this! maybe a challenge of making a one off car design only using scrap and see how much it can be sold for at the end for the winner!
Yesss bring may and Clarkson in as well!!
For sure this is the right answer / 3 way comp will be comedy gold
Yes and while they are at it, get rid of Mike being in front of the camera. I think the guy is only capable of pulling a niche portion of the viewing audience.
You should have a secret challenge at the end of every build like they have to go race the cars, or sail them across water or camp in them for a few days. Something to add some spice to what was a very fun show
Here is another idea: A bunch of people sit around talking about TV show ideas. The show includes guest appearances from TV shows that we have forgotten about. "On this weeks show Mr Humphries and Corporal Jones discuss TV show ideas"
new TV show with Hammond? Ya I'm on board.
This was really enjoyable. The only thing missing would be to get the other two on with teams of their own and compete in different challenges like this. A sort of Olympics for them, and at the end of the season they get a trophy. They can earn points each week they do a show.
DT Group,
What I enjoyed the most about the challenge was the display of what can be made using the parts of a car. The pizza oven was the most impressive. The idea seems like it could be a very popular show to watch, each group is tasked with making items for specific use. The possibilities are numerous; furniture, lamps, grills, fans, sinks, etc.
Would love some more travelling involved, maybe building a car for a set of challenges...?
Would love some Jeremy/James guest appearances. Jeremy hasn't appeared on DriveTribe in over a year!
Nice one! Keep em coming!
Make. This. A. Show. It'll be like scrapheap challenge but modernised and without the budget. Excellent.
Exactly!!!!
Love it guys. Proper Scrapheap Challenge vibes. Keep this up! :)
absolute 10/10, wonderful concept. taking awful cars and turning them into art pieces is fantastic! i'd absolutely watch more of these
Now you should sell the created "artworks" and get a car from the money that can actually be loved. That would be a great achievement. I love the format!
You've already got things covered using 'The Smallest Cog' with your current show and your potential future show where you go racing in the MG and look to fix up other race cars that get damaged. Leave it at that and maybe once a year do something like this where you challenge random garages across the country to do something for comic relief and auction off the 'inventions'
I just watched the video 'is Richard a better farmer than Jeremy'. More of that type of content would be brilliant. Specifically, just seeing Hammond being happy in environments that mean a lot to him using his mates and cars and bikes to help sell the stories. I'm now inspired to ride from Cornwall to the Lake District, I can't say I'm wanting to dismantle my Honda Jazz and turn it into a watering can after watching this, sorry!
Amazing fun to watch !!! They should keep making shows like the Scrapheap Challenge, Crazy contraptions and this one . Cheers !!
This is the sort of stuff this channel needs a lot more of fantastic
Loved it! Very reminiscent of Junkyard Wars / Scrapheap Challenge. Bringing in May as a commentator would be amazing
Loved it ...a different twist on scrap heap challenge ...but maybe give each team a set objective that is achievable with the 2 cars …but make it slightly more difficult for one of the cars based on the coin toss at the beginning ....maybe add some bonus type items in along the builds ...
I could watch either one, or all three of them knitting , drinking tea and chatting tbh.
Definitely would like to see the cars still remain cars at least a little bit. Maybe just add some stipulations like "must be a fully working backhoe" to the mix
It's like inverse scrapheap challenge, instead of starting with scrap and turning it into something, they start with something and turn it into scrap
i love this style of show, reminds me of scrapheap challenge. would love to see more like this
Maybe a point system for the judges so that each team gets a score out of 40 ( 10 points available from each judge). Just an idea. Great video, so please do get more of those filmed
Really cool including the other craftsmen from next door. There's an artist behind every mechanic, technician and painter....
Scrapheap challenge vibes
I love it 👏👏
More of this!!
It could work if the challenge was that the car was atleast somewhat driveable at the end. Make it sorta like the old top gear challenges where they found a workshop and cued the music
This was fantastic to watch. It was like watching scrapheap challenge. Really enjoyed It 👌👌
Scrapheap challenge was rebranded as junkyard wars here in the US, and I’m glad the comments section has reminded me of that legendary show.
Here’s the format for the show:
Richard and James each have a team. James is clinical, where Richard does his thing. Let teams pick the car before the challenge is given. Rock paper sizers works just fine. THEN afterwards, the challenge is given, and it can be any sort of vehicular challenge (ala junkyard wars).
Jeremy and a team of judges critique the vehicles on a number of categories/events based on the challenge, then ultimately decide a winner.
This would be fantastic content, and could be done on a “reasonable” budget.
Great fun, mate! If I were Richard Hammond, I think I would break out my little black book and start dialing former guests inviting them to bring a classic car project. I also would invite viewers to send in projects giving people an idea of what of a basic preservation, a restoration/restomod, a full Concourse restoration. Your average person is probably intimidated by the idea of bringing their car to you. Let them know that you don't bite, bring in your project!
Having just this week discovered all of the Scrapheap Challenge episodes are on All4 and wished there was a show like it back on…! This is a fitting reimagined that show. And appropriate considering Hadrian’s connections to that original series. More please!!
This was great. You can also maybe make a series where the cars are changed into appliances / go karts / every day objects
This an absolutely brilliant idea!
Loved watching this.
Would be cool to see what else the 2 garages could do in future competitions!
This would be an amazing series! I love the idea of making cars fun again and on the future of this pilot - Perhaps as well as a theme you could add a format of car (MPV vs MPV or People Carrier vs People Carrier.) Giving both teams the same amount of car to work with and getting more 'Hateful' cars off of the road while giving more awareness to how much engineering goes into the cars we use day to day.
Regardless of all that, stellar job on the new presentation style and presenters. I could see this growing larger than the Smallest cog and having student teams or different garages going head to head to get awareness out there with local businesses and personalities that promote the automotive industry as a whole bringing everyone up through a shared love (or hate) for certain cars.
That was great. Needed a few shots of Neil bragging about how great the oven turned out. "The thing I would most want to take home with me," is the perfect way to judge the winner. I hope you guys do more of these
Just please put it on something available in the States. So bummed to not have a way to see Hammond’s Workshop. Not sure why the other two got shows on Amazon and Hammond didn’t.
Richard got The Great Escapists on Amazon
@@negativecalamari we don’t speak of that travesty of a show.
@@snork4224 you brought it up by not bringing it up 😃
@@negativecalamari My bad!
It’s on Discovery + the streaming site.
I actually always kinda liked the Crossfire, my mom had one for a little while and I took it for a drive down the coast and it got so many looks and thumbs ups and conversations at the gas pump it was crazy. I guess since they didn't sell well no one really knew what it was.
This was awesome, and i think it should be a show hosted by Richard Hammond that pits local garages all across the globe against each other.
Loved this! Makes me think of the old scrap heap challenge. Main thing I'd improve or change would be to make the goal / determining the winner. The ending was a little anticlimactic as you're rating art. Perhaps I'm pulling too much from scrap heap challenge but more emphasis on the engineering side and contraptions I find more interesting than artwork, though I'm sure bonus points for looks could come into it.
With not having access to Richard's UK show on Discovery this is quite a treat
Exactly. They dont have a up-front financier on RUclips, but they have a potentially enormous audience - if people like it, they will watch it. The revenue question can be answered by ordinary youtube ads or sponsors. Its a business after all, this cant be a welfare operation.
@@Ganiscol I don't have Discovery+, I do pay for YT Premium though so adds aren't an issue for me. Yes, I think it's a great idea to do a show on RUclips. It may not be a guaranteed paycheck like a TV show would provide but his celebrity is already established. I would imagine that his content on RUclips would do quite well financially.
There is one guy on RUclips called 'The Driver's Seat" Who uploads the episodes weekly
This absolutely needs to be a regular show. Thoroughly enjoyed this.
Fun Stuff! Do not change anything! All the production experts got this just fine. Now it's up to the viewers to buy the sponsor's products. oh! my Jaws hurt from smiling too. Best Wishes and thank you Team Drivetribe.
What a brilliant video.. reminded me over an old school scrap heap challenge kind of vibe.. also it looked like everyone genuinely just had fun making this video.. even those at hms who haven't spent time on camera seemed relaxed and like they was just having fun. Absolutely brilliant 👏 👌
Would love to see man lab make a return via this channel too
Yes, more James may and less of this Mike guy that is trying to make himself a star off the backs of Clarkson, Hammond and May.
I have so much respect for these mechanics! I can hardly fix a leaky tap over a weekend..
This is utterly amazing,
great and fun. More of this!
Brilliant! Absolutely loved it! Please continue making videos or should I say episodes like this! I would even bring the "old boys" in, to judge as well as perhaps part take in some of the challenges. Thank you for making my Sunday evening!
Loved this, keep this up and just have a different theme each episode, maybe add a few rules in like "must use the wheels of the car" or " main structure must include the boot lid in some way"
Loved it. The format is familiar but it’s really about showcasing the talent of the teams. I want a few more episodes before offering suggestions.
Those two engineering companies are such nice people this is special I like them both.
Great little show idea. Would love to see more. Judge appearances from the other members of the trio could be fun too.
This was absolute fun to watch. Really, really love the concept of it. Can't wait to see something like this again.
I thought this was a joke at first. Jeremy needs to see this.
I love the cogs so much all three of them get that look in their eye that I love when working on something with someone.
That was a sensational idea. Would be a great show to watch, especially if you could get different teams each time.
I thoroughly enjoyed this thanks guys. I'd like to see more of this fun and creative stuff please.
Honestly watching this just reminded me of scrap heap challenge and how much I miss that show, that you have crated is ALMOST the reverse and it’s fantastic
Getting definite and rather lovely Scrapheap Challenge vibes and nostalgia from this, especially as it features Hadrian. More please. 😁👌
It's a really fun idea. You can do competitions, but also collaborations. Maybe each team takes an individual from the other team. Maybe pick a particular car part and say "Right, you have to make X out of Y in a short time-frame for extra points" or something. But it would mean sacrificing a team member to work on it. Anyway, it looks like it would be a lot of fun as a series... maybe to replace The Smallest Cog as it's basically established now and a vlog-style series has a limited lifespan.
That was brilliant, looking forward to seeing more episodes in the future 👍🏻
Would've went with :
-hot tub in the passenger compartment
- LED projector in the engine bay and hinged bonnet at the front with white screen for the projector to shine onto
- potted plants in the boot
- fridge for beer in the engine bay
I LOVED IT!!!!! I'm located in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA and I don't have access to Richard's show on DiscoveryPlus. It's a thrill to watch this and I thought it was creatively entertaining!!! CHEERS TO YOU!! I LOOK FORWARD TO MORE EPISODES!!!
