That's up to the EU, they try to use their common market as a bargaining chip to get stuff from countries that aren't in the union like Switzerland and Norway to access it.
As someone from Catalunya, I appreciate the special mention of having to learn Catalan if you live in certain areas of Spain! Oftentimes we feel like people are not aware about this. Very thoughtful well researched educated asseessment of european countries. you should be elected as the next president of the european commission for your work. hey by the way whats your thought on russia. u wanna visit moscow st petersburgh? u seemed very enthusiastic in one of ur videos about russian attributics
I visited the baltic countries in 2023 ( ok only the 3 capitals) I liked it, despite the expensive groceries, which I could afford because I am from the decadent West. Maybe the rest of the countries are still backwater villages with dirt roads, but the capitals are charming, I especially liked the 18th- 19th century architecture and I am glad that the soviet occupation did not destroy that. You could see that once upon a time the Hansa trading brought a lot of wealth to the Baltics.
I have been to almost all the countries, however as you are from the Baltic, I must say that I felt a bit unsafe in Riga, in comparison Talin and Vilnius. Sorry 😢. Also, I’m from the UK, and agree with our grade. Might have even been a bit generous. 😊
You are definitely biased! As a Pole who visited over 20 European countries, I give Latvia a solid B. And a solid A among the Baltic and Nordic countries. :)
Hey, Erika. I hope you knew what you were doing with this video of yours, because If it was engagement what you were looking for.... Oh, boy, will you get one ! ;) Yes, the concept of presenting and explaining European countries has been rinsed and repeated a lot, but your comedic persona adds so much to it. Your Europe Explained video is a testament of that. I believe you should make more extensive research on the countries and make separate 10-20 min vids on each one, sprinkled with that funny timings and comments of yours. We, as Europeans, looove to hear other peoples opinions of us ("because we may not be better than others, but we certainly think we are"), and they get a lot of views, so hopefully you can start doing only youtube, because you have that uniqueness. I for one would watch all of them. Btw I am from Bulgaria, and while the head movement for 'yes' and 'no' is as you say here, it is accompanied with some face mimicking - like for 'no' we also like scrunch our noses while nodding our head up and down, and 'yes' looks a lot like Indians swing their heads left and right in agreement. Best of luck!
The story, from what I know, about why we shake our head for yes and nod for no is linked to Bulgaria being conquered by the ottomans in the middle ages. According to the legend, my ancestors back then swapped the meaning of the signs, so when the Ottoman rulers asked whether they wanted to convert, we would nod our heads for yes, but we agreed between ourselves that nodding our head actually meant no.

I think you forgot a few countries still, I'm sure you forgot Andorra though, but yeah I can accept the list as it is, just wish that my country got an A, but yeah that's wishful thinking probably.
About the Dutch housing crisis: generally, if you want social housing in one of the big cities, [Randstad] the waiting list is between 15 and 30 years. Market priced rental is usually way shorter of a waiting list; if you got the money you could move in next week so to speak. Mortgage housing depends on whether you can convince your bank/mortgage lender to lend you into a certain financial group so that you can pick the ‘most expensive’ house your income allows. We have a new government since 2024 (predominantly *very* conservative right wing, but with some key elements from left wing socialism) that promises a significant increase in the total amount of new houses that are to be built in the future. But yeah housing has always been a slow burner problem in The Netherlands. And we’re starting to creep up towards 20 million residents, so it’s quite the hot topic in our part(s) of the world!🙂
I stopped at Estonia to type this comment. If you give fair score to Lithuania, just like you did to latvia I'm subbing. Edit: sadly you gave wrong score to us :( it should've been D. But I'm from there and we never keep our word so I sub because you are braliukas!
Maybe i am mistaken, but romanians didn't come up with Dracula. They had the real life role model (not 100% though) where also the name is from. The person comming up with the form you think of, of Dracula was Bram Stoker. And he got his inspiration from the story "Camilla" of irish writer Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu. That story btw. takes place in the south east of austria (what is now the south east, not when he wrote it) ->Styria. That said, you call vienna "shiny"? No idea what you mean by that, but quick tip: ride the subway U6 early in the morning or in the evening, and you will not call vienna shiny anymore ;-).
I'm from Luxembourg and this idea that everyone here is rich... Every time I see the amount that is supposed to be the "average income", I look around and wonder where are all these people who supposedly earn that much! Here's the thing about statistics and averages: Let's say 8 out of 10 people earn 2000€ per month and the other 2 earn 22.000€ per month. This would make an average of 6000€ per person, even though 4/5 of the people only earn 2000€. This is exactly what's going on here. We have a lot of banks and a lot of bank directors earn a fortune and it's what those few people earn that makes the average so high and make it seem like everyone here is rich.
8:10 I accidentally stayed in the kinda bad part of town in Vienna (I was on a budget) & was surprised because I heard Vienna was nice & pristine haha So depends on where you go! Also 8:25 I thought Bram Stoker, the Irish writer, invented Dracula?
The reason Finland has a the Nordic cross in their flag is because they used to be Russian. But they got super rich and decided to be their own country and they wanted to be closer to Scandinavians than Russians.
Why finland have skandinavian looking flag?theres not such thing as skandinavian flag, that cross on northern countries flags means christian country, and finnish language is easy to learn (says all my forreigner friends),finnish grammar is other thing, thats crazy hard to learn.
While Finland is not a part of Scandinavia, it belongs to Nordic countries together with Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Iceland, and we all have similar flags 😌
Switzerland, at least the non-French part, is a low-tax country (including the healthcare insurance) compared to Germany and France. I'm German, live in Switzerland.
I feel like Hungary would have something to say about most difficult langauge & france definitely dont want you trying to speak their language, also for good food anywhere near paris thats big money. Im half dutch and agree with everything you said about Netherlands lol portugal is fantastic even in peak season. Very reasonable but lisboa locals got pushed out from digital nomads so just dont bother with lisbon unless its for architecture or something.
Isle of Man is NOT a country, self-governing constitutional monarchies (under King Charles III), they come under the UK international law. They are NOT skirts they are kilts, that is an insult to us scots, even though Scotland is part of the United Kingdom we have our own parliament and legal system, as well as our own health service, plus much more.
i think thats a very subjective ranking - sounds you prever the pulsing big city life and don't like quite littele sleeping villages and nature ...maybe it changes when your older. would be interresting to see a list in 5 or 10 years from now

And we’re starting to creep up towards 20 million residents, so it’s quite the hot topic in our part(s) of the world!🙂
Did you learn your english in Latvia? Your english is gorgeus to hear, I am currently studyin english and it has been so hard to reach the fluency

The G is pronounced, to emphasise "ing".
Protip: Nearly every English word that ends with "in" has a "g" after making "ing".
Living 2 years in GER and still giving it a C is really what our country is all about.
this is a cool assesment thanks for this video.
Erika , which european country is best for students to build their carrier
I stopped at Estonia to type this comment. If you give fair score to Lithuania, just like you did to latvia I'm subbing.
Edit: sadly you gave wrong score to us :( it should've been D. But I'm from there and we never keep our word so I sub because you are braliukas!
Im from galicia i swear warm is not the term for how days are usally like here
You need someone that shows you around in Liechtenstein, then it is S Tier .... minus the high prices .... ending in B Tier
When you go to Poland, eat something at a milk bar 'Bar Mleczny'.
C for Germany?! They invented pombears! And then there's haribo!
...and we also have a part of the baltic sea
Germany should be an A or at least B+ , but the Netherlands is the best, so S tier
I wish you ranked Bosnia (and Herzegovina) based on anything else but the name 😂
Було цікаво та весело😂❤
Хотілося щоб ви більше дізналися про Україну і можливо колись завітали до нас💞
Don't underestimate Estonian language.. It's very similar to Finnish :D
I don't think Switzerland has ever gotten a D in anything
Until this!
I'm from Luxembourg and this idea that everyone here is rich...
Every time I see the amount that is supposed to be the "average income", I look around and wonder where are all these people who supposedly earn that much!
Here's the thing about statistics and averages:
Let's say 8 out of 10 people earn 2000€ per month and the other 2 earn 22.000€ per month.
This would make an average of 6000€ per person, even though 4/5 of the people only earn 2000€.
This is exactly what's going on here. We have a lot of banks and a lot of bank directors earn a fortune and it's what those few people earn that makes the average so high and make it seem like everyone here is rich.
That is why median salary is the better statistic. Even then you are almost at the top in Europe.
I'm gonna put a like just because you know about my native language, Catalan (also called Valencian)
We dont wear kilts in Ireland that is a scottish thing
Switzerland, at least the non-French part, is a low-tax country (including the healthcare insurance) compared to Germany and France. I'm German, live in Switzerland.
And the Italian part ? Is it a low tax area too ?
I feel like Hungary would have something to say about most difficult langauge & france definitely dont want you trying to speak their language, also for good food anywhere near paris thats big money. Im half dutch and agree with everything you said about Netherlands lol portugal is fantastic even in peak season. Very reasonable but lisboa locals got pushed out from digital nomads so just dont bother with lisbon unless its for architecture or something.
Just on Ireland, the kilts (man skirts) are much much more of a Scottish thing.
I thought it was a Celtic thing
@@phillipanselmo8540 No there is no common celtic culture and i am irish we don't wear kilts
Heh heh, Liechtenstein is S-Tier for me because as a grade-schooler I built a model of their Vaduz castle.
17:32 Men in Ireland don't weark kilts. Kilts are Scottish.
potato potahto

yeah exactly she got confused :)
Incorrect, just google Irish kilts. Or in general google things before making comments about things you are ignorant about.
As an asian, I found you very very very cute🥺
Am not Asian nd I do too❤
Because you gave Sweden an A, I give you an A! 😀
I was sitting here waiting for Ireland lmao much love from Dublin 🇮🇪
i think thats a very subjective ranking - sounds you prever the pulsing big city life and don't like quite littele sleeping villages and nature ...maybe it changes when your older. would be interresting to see a list in 5 or 10 years from now
