I don't know anyone who has been to Scotland & have not fallen in love with it. The beauty, the people, the history, the architecture.... our first trip in 1998 as Southern people from the US, we loved how open and friendly people were. At a bus stop a nice lady came over to asked if she could help us. On the bus a wonderful gentleman engaged us in conversation and we all talked and laughed with him. Southerners are like that & no offense as I have ancestors from both England and Scotand, and loved the drive and our varied stops between London and Edinburgh, but it was distinctly different in Edinburgh. My second trip we took 2 tours back to back throughout the highlands & north and west coasts & I cried when we had to leave. We are booked for May 2024 (our daughter's 4th trip) and thank you Shaun for your wonderful videos about Scotland and the Scottish people we love so much! 🏴
I don't think many people know let alone appreciate the huge influence Scotland has had in America/United States. Many of the things discussed here are very prevalent in the US amongst basically the entire south and midwest, with varying degrees elsewhere. And just about everyone is Scots-Irish + __(English, French, African, German, etc etc)😂❤🇮🇪🏴🏴🏴🇺🇸
My mothers grandfather from her mothers side who I grew up around till I was 21, was from Dalmally. My mother’s grandfather from her father’s side was from Kinlochleven. I’m so proud to be Scottish 🏴 even if it’s 1/4 of me I still feel such a resonance when I listen to the music or hear Gaelic being spoken, looking at pictures of Scotland and researching the history, hearing stories my great grandfather would tell me and eating the foods. I cannot wait to go visit.
Don't forget about James Clerk Maxwell, Scottish theoretical physicist who synthesized the equations of the electromagnetic field that are still used in that same form to this day, and also did fundamental work in formulating thermodynamics and statistical mechanics.
I spent the better part of a month in Scotland. I LOVE Scotland! And, the Scots ARE wonderful people!!! Go into a pub and they will want to talk with you. Great & beautiful Country, fabulous People & good food! If i were to relocate to a different Country, Scotland would win hands down ❤

A lot of these traits are very evident in the way you speak about the places you travel. You always come across very open minded and respectful toward different cultures. I came to Edinburgh for the Fringe festival in 2007 or so, but someday I'd love to come back and immerse myself in the everyday culture of Scotland. I have learned so much about Scotland from you,and even a fair bit about different areas of my own country here in the U.S. Cheers.
Scotland is definitely #1 on my "Bucket List." Not just to visit, but also to explore my own Scottish genealogy within Clan MacNaughton. Honest question ... When someone refers to having a dram, does that refer only to whiskey or other alcoholic beverages as well?
I literally just found out that I’m 38% Scottish I grew up in foster care so I never knew what I was and I took my ancestry and that’s what I was the most of was Scottish so that’s what I’m trying to learn about so I’m excited for this new journey getting to know where I come from❤
I am a lot like this, being Scottish ancestry... I thought it was coming from my Italian on the other side... I think it may be more the Scottish :) Everyone from my great-grandfather back was from Scotland. All Scottish blood on my dad's side- the Laird surname is a very difficult name to find information about but over time I have found lots about my ancestors...
That of eye contact ; in the case of us autistic people,I hope it isn't misinterpreted as rude or dishonest. I am a liker of the Scotland the Brave song, sporrans and kilts.
Nothing is as sexy as a man in a kilt! Coming from a mother and grandmother who lived in Blue Ridge Mountains for many years. I love my Scottish ancestry.
Not really that proud though are we? 18th of September 2014, case in point. First country in the world to reject its own independence incase the price of loaf went up in Asda hardly screams proud.

Goes to being proud I think. Proud people are quick to anger when our pride is hurt or integrity challenged.

Thanks Shaun. 🌹
Very informative, thank you! As always, can't wait to get there😊

Dram is just whisky 🥃😊

Bit random… but what can you tell me about my last name “McKinney”🙏🏻

Y'all have every right to be proud 😁👍. I live in the U.S. but I'm extremely proud of my Pollock ancestors. ♥️♥️
My background is Scottish and English and Irish buddy
