I wasn't raised in a Christian home either. My mother is atheist despite having been raised Christian herself. She had married my stepfather, who was raised Protestant, but isn't now. My stepdad influenced my mother a lot, and so she never got the chance to bring my siblings and I up in church. Flash forward to the end of my senior year, and I struggled. I had just dealt with a VERY abusive ex boyfriend, all of my friends turning their backs on me, and I felt so alone. I had then moved in with my dad and stepmom, and they had been going to church on and off. My dad and stepmom then got saved, and so did I several months later. But temptation reigned me back in. I had moved into a house with a girl who did drugs, was pagan, and she nearly had me doing the same. But after that, I moved in with my mom, and then my friend Austin, and then my dad once again. I went to church the second week I had come back, and all of the feelings just came back all at once. God was still there despite the fact I had strayed so far away. I redevoted myself to our Lord and Savior, and Im beginning again. My love for God and Jesus has never been stronger than it is now.
I grew up in a non-Christian home and became a Christian when I was 17, lost my faith due to no support, and regained my faith in the best and strongest way when I was 19. All the advice at 5:36 is great! I found it hard to show change, too. I've started reading my bible at the dining hall as a way to show God to others. I also found a study bible to be so helpful!
Jess Ann Amazing Testimony. I also grew up in a non-christian house and I really struggled with changing my life and living the way God wanted me to, but I got baptized when I was 17 and I completely gave my life to God. It's the best decision I've ever made. ❤

I'm only true christian in my family. My mom is really against my faith and dad is some kind christian, but not filled with Holly Spirit and he doesn't agree with everything in bible and he thinks I'm in some kind of sect. My brother is against my faith too. And yesterday God healed me and some kind of spirits came out of me. And when I shared, that I am healed, my parent's reacted really bad and thinks I'm crazy and I have some kind of peoblems. And it is really hard, but I believe God will change their hearts and show trough my healings, that God is real. And it is hard to trust God too and it's crazy to think that I am finnaly heald, but God said it! Through people testimony we hear, that we are not alone in our problems and God only wants best for us!

I feel like everyone goes through that judgmental phase, but then you understand, "we all need Jesus and the only difference is that you accepted him." Now if you show that same love that Jesus showed, other people would accept him too.
My family is not religious at all, they don't believe in god and neither did I all my life until November '16. As the months passed by I really started to work on developing a relationship with god and truly put god first. I started reading the bible, praying, going to church & I was and still am so excited about all this. Growing closer to god. It's really hard when you're family are atheists though :/ It's a big change and a lot of people can't seem to handle it or fully support me so that sucks :(
MissSunshine221 it must be really hard but there's an online community who are always here. Also you could try to serve in your Church to gain a stronger sense of community. I watch sermons throughout the week to get me through (Elevation Church mainly) and it can really help me. Have a blessed day 💖💖
Just stuck with prayers and try not to sin, also find reasons why It's good not to sin. I know it might sounds silly but If you look at that reasons you will see much more clearly why are you doing this. You don't do this for yourself, you are doing this for others. This will give you feeling of higher purpose
Don't be discouraged! The peace and joy that you have found can be used to turn your family to God as well. Continue praying for them and showing love towards them. Your actions and the change in you will minister to them. God Bless :)
Hey, I am a Catholic in a non-religious family and wanted to let you know that it will get better, most of the time people are spooked at first by the change but come to understand that you are still the same person, still love them and haven't been brainwashed or so on. The early period can be pretty bumpy, but things will smooth out!

I was from non-christian family. And I believed in God since I was young(started to pray and believe in God for a long time) and somehow it was like coming out of the closet when I was 19 because I don't stay with them. I went to church with my friend in college. I have kept the feeling, the doubt and everything for so long. There was no church nearby. There was no missionary or mentor. God called me a few time, through Bible mostly. :) But thanks about where I am now. I was lost for a while.... I'm saved now I am so happy about it. Two of my sisters are really against this kinda life style and who I am. :) It was struggle still.. pray for my family :) God bless you who read this. I'm similar as you. I was saved August of '15 and I was judgmental at first and it took me about a year to realize what it's truly about and I'm still learning.

Hey Brother, if I may give you a word, here's what I've got: First of all, God loves you despite struggles. But also we need to both love and fear the Lord. Please see Revelation chapters 2-3. Fall in love with the Lord Jesus. Lose sight of you and gain sight of God. (That's some of the best advice I've personally ever received in my life.)

But in the end its not about what I think it right, but God. It's just really tough when God's ways (waiting and anticipating) are a 180 from what I want. Some of the family members that I live with claim to be christians, yet get very upset with me when I talk about Jesus or anything related to him; while other members of this household either claim to be atheists or just don't care. . . It's a difficult situation, however, due to being bullied by lots of people around me (family members included), I've grown to love being left alone, which I'm grateful for because I can use that alone time getting to know The Lord and focusing on my relationship with Him. ❤

that was so inspirational. I get so down because I'm an outcast in a new town and I think it's because I truly found jesus, plus I'm sick so my reality is distorted. but jess really hit home for me. people don't know how to respond around me but jesus truly saves during this hard time.

I was an atheist in high school at first but freshman year of college I had something happen to me in 2015 and after 3 years I was still processing in 2019 got my license and a new job and I’m more open to people then the pandemic hit I wanted to go full time but found out I can’t handle 40 hrs week so thank u for this message
I grew up in a family that subtly “made fun of the whole idea of being serious about religion” period. I was born jewish and we honored passover and hannakuh, but also easter and christmas just to ‘cover all the bases’ so to speak. But nobody ever went to church, and I got the vibe we would be teased - even harassed - if we did. And my parents thought nothing of it, they didnt take it seriously, and I get the feeling they only observed holidays and such because they felt guilty or they felt ‘it was something they were supposed to do.’ And I think that is why, to this day, I have a reserved perception of what role God and religion is meant to play in my life.
I recently attended a Christian retreat and I loved it! I come from a non-religious family and I have found myself to be saved. I accepted that Jesus has saved me from the eternal death and he died so that I may have this gift. And while I have found a church and a youth group and a group of Christian friends, I am still so confused and considering I have only even touched a bible less than a week ago, I obviously have a lot to learn. Is there any advice you could give me on how to learn about the Bible and Christ or what things I should do to help me? It would be much appreciated.
You're not alone, in the beginning there are a lot of people that get saved and they begin with a very legalistic heart. Welcome to the family! I am in a similar situation and I still struggle with my family life..
This makes me simultaneously so sad and so happy. So happy for Jess and her amazing journey, and just so sad that I know my journey won't be like that. I can't find a mentor, I've been looking for 2 years. I don't even know what a devotional is or how to do it right (after googling it, a lot) so how can I do them everyday as a first step? How can I feel loved and welcomed in a community I want to pour my heart into, when they think, by virtue of who I love, I'm doomed. What makes it worst is no one wants to listen. This is a lot more negative than it should, because it truly was amazing you could share this with us - it's a change from the testimonies you normally see on RUclips and that was nice.

I’m almost 16.. I grew up in an atheist house. People except my parents never heard of the gospel. My dad ignores it. My mom and gramma used to go to church but now they don’t. I am hopeless. I want to give up and just to live a normal worldly life because that’s what everyone wants.
Don't give up hope!!! I was just reading this prayer this morning for Christians who are extremely persecuted in China...it was for encouraging their hearts though they might feel they should quit their faith amidst terrible and unfair persecution. I just feel this prayer should be prayed over you too, so I will pray!!! You are NOT alone. Be encouraged - God promised that in this world we WOULD have trouble, but take heart, Jesus has overcome the world.

My testimony is similar but I have my belief for a while now....like I known god but I was of another religion and it turns out that I find comfort in god rather than the religion I grew up in....My testimony is similar and I want to share it but my parents won't accept me- I'm 15 and I don't know what to do but I have a bible in my phone...I plan to convert like in a church when I left home but I don't know if I have that much time and I want to do it now...I just don't know but I still pray and try my best to live according to the words of god. I hope to convert in church sooner rather than later because I don't wan hardships to get in the way of my believe....I asked my aunt and her husband as well as my grandparents to never let me give up and forget my faith. I love god so much and I've never felt this. For the first time in my life someone fully accepted me with the good and the bad- everything I did, every sin and ever flaw and everything that made me, me. My great great grandmother was a Christian and alot of people say we have alot in common....I guess I never met her but she asked god to send me for my dad because she was worried about dieing and leaving my dad...she called him her baby. I don't know how he's different from then but god is my light and he will walk me through the darkness and I hope to see him, thank him, hug him and live in his kingdom one day 💗💝 Never give up anything for your faith. Don't give into spiritual warfare....use the word of god before you do anything...pray because the devil know that every one person makes the army of god stronger. He wins the fight....I mean just look at everything on social media but hes still scared because he knows that he can't win the war! #jesusisking God wins every VICTORY!!!! I'm 14 and also a baby in christ. This comment is late and you're probably older now, but praying should be natrual. Like talking to a friend. It can feel weird at first but you kinda just have trust that Jesus is there, listening to you. My family all claim to be christians and we all grew up going to church, but I just started actually getting serious. I've tried talking to my brother but he's uncooperative. It's hard but I just pray God gives me the courage to speak up. Try little things like sending a few family members bible quotes.

I was lost for 29 year's did whatever I wanted it was ok until I found myself in a deep dark pit I fell into deep depression I opened a door to the demonic realm through sin. I had nowhere to go no one to run too I was isolated, paralyzed I was stuck in my room for a year and three months until Jesus intervened he showed me the spiritual realm what I allowed into my house and into my body it was so severe when I couldn't take it anymore he showed up cured me of everything he's real I saw him he's as bright as the midday sun. Maliyaaa not sure if this will help, but I personally believe that creationism and evolution are the same thing. That the Bible documents evolution as creationism. God is the one who caused evolution to happen, and the Bible explains it in a way that we humans can understand. For example: when God said "let there be light", he caused the Big Bang to happen. I believe that back when the world was created, the lengths of "days" used in the Bible were not equivalent to the lengths of our days today, but rather hundreds of millions of years each. You don't have to believe this, but this is how I make sense of what God has said and what has been scientifically proven.

Either you believe in the bible, as in the book of Genesis first account of creation or not. Let God be true and every man be liar (Romans 3:4). It's naive to only know your religion (that'd be the same as only experience one type of culture food!) Catholicism is under the umbrella of Christianity, and I think it'd be so awesome for you to learn more and be able to have some open, honest and educated conversations with your Catholic friends!

Something that I felt I should share , Sometimes worldy pleasures lure me back and I fall for temptation. Many of us fall for such temptation and later, regret. I used to feel unworthy. Hopelessness surrounds me. But, I realized that I don't have to waste my time crying over what happened. I can run back to Jesus for he knows the body is weak. Being Christian is not a 'one time only'... you can try again and again, every time you fail. Failure should not let you hide from Jesus. Becca , do you agree??
Usa ask Jesus for is help and strength to overcome-be careful not to make excuses, but at the same time Jesus understands we struggle-just as long as we aren't excusing it with- God gets it therefore i keep sinning-no we need to hate it and be working with Jesus to overcome it. I really don't have great advice with dealing with it. Some days can be pretty rough for me, and I HAVE to exercise to let it all out! I love to swim or play soccer to let it out. I also have breathing techniques that I do if I'm in class or I'm not able to exercise in the moment when I'm feeling overwhelmed. Sorry I couldn't be too much help to you, girl! Just stuck with prayers and try not to sin, also find reasons why It's good not to sin. I know it might sounds silly but If you look at that reasons you will see much more clearly why are you doing this. You don't do this for yourself, you are doing this for others. This will give you feeling of higher purpose

Hey, I am a Catholic in a non-religious family and wanted to let you know that it will get better, most of the time people are spooked at first by the change but come to understand that you are still the same person, still love them and haven't been brainwashed or so on. The early period can be pretty bumpy, but things will smooth out!

I was from non-christian family. And I believed in God since I was young(started to pray and believe in God for a long time) and somehow it was like coming out of the closet when I was 19 because I don't stay with them. I went to church with my friend in college. I have kept the feeling, the doubt and everything for so long. There was no church nearby. There was no missionary or mentor. God called me a few time, through Bible mostly. :) But thanks about where I am now. I was lost for a while.... I'm saved now I am so happy about it. Two of my sisters are really against this kinda life style and who I am. :) It was struggle still.. pray for my family :) God bless you who read this.

I'm similar as you. I was saved August of '15 and I was judgmental at first and it took me about a year to realize what it's truly about and I'm still learning.

Fall in love with the Lord Jesus. Lose sight of you and gain sight of God. (That's some of the best advice I've personally ever received in my life.)

But in the end its not about what I think it right, but God. It's just really tough when God's ways (waiting and anticipating) are a 180 from what I want. Some of the family members that I live with claim to be christians, yet get very upset with me when I talk about Jesus or anything related to him; while other members of this household either claim to be atheists or just don't care. . . It's a difficult situation, however, due to being bullied by lots of people around me (family members included), I've grown to love being left alone, which I'm grateful for because I can use that alone time getting to know The Lord and focusing on my relationship with Him. ❤

I grew up in a family that subtly “made fun of the whole idea of being serious about religion” period. I was born jewish and we honored passover and hannakuh, but also easter and christmas just to ‘cover all the bases’ so to speak. But nobody ever went to church, and I got the vibe we would be teased - even harassed - if we did. And my parents thought nothing of it, they didnt take it seriously, and I get the feeling they only observed holidays and such because they felt guilty or they felt ‘it was something they were supposed to do.’ And I think that is why, to this day, I have a reserved perception of what role God and religion is meant to play in my life.
I recently attended a Christian retreat and I loved it! I come from a non-religious family and I have found myself to be saved. I accepted that Jesus has saved me from the eternal death and he died so that I may have this gift. And while I have found a church and a youth group and a group of Christian friends, I am still so confused and considering I have only even touched a bible less than a week ago, I obviously have a lot to learn. Is there any advice you could give me on how to learn about the Bible and Christ or what things I should do to help me? It would be much appreciated.

This makes me simultaneously so sad and so happy. So happy for Jess and her amazing journey, and just so sad that I know my journey won't be like that. I can't find a mentor, I've been looking for 2 years. I don't even know what a devotional is or how to do it right (after googling it, a lot) so how can I do them everyday as a first step? How can I feel loved and welcomed in a community I want to pour my heart into, when they think, by virtue of who I love, I'm doomed. What makes it worst is no one wants to listen. This is a lot more negative than it should, because it truly was amazing you could share this with us - it's a change from the testimonies you normally see on RUclips and that was nice.
You can create this community in your area, you will have to love others and do everything what you believe is right

I’m almost 16.. I grew up in an atheist house. People except my parents never heard of the gospel. My dad ignores it. My mom and gramma used to go to church but now they don’t. I am hopeless. I want to give up and just to live a normal worldly life because that’s what everyone wants.
Don't give up hope!!! I was just reading this prayer this morning for Christians who are extremely persecuted in China...it was for encouraging their hearts though they might feel they should quit their faith amidst terrible and unfair persecution. I just feel this prayer should be prayed over you too, so I will pray!!! You are NOT alone. Be encouraged - God promised that in this world we WOULD have trouble, but take heart, Jesus has overcome the world.

My testimony is similar but I have my belief for a while now....like I known god but I was of another religion and it turns out that I find comfort in god rather than the religion I grew up in....My testimony is similar and I want to share it but my parents won't accept me- I'm 15 and I don't know what to do but I have a bible in my phone...I plan to convert like in a church when I left home but I don't know if I have that much time and I want to do it now...I just don't know but I still pray and try my best to live according to the words of god. I hope to convert in church sooner rather than later because I don't wan hardships to get in the way of my believe....I asked my aunt and her husband as well as my grandparents to never let me give up and forget my faith. I love god so much and I've never felt this. For the first time in my life someone fully accepted me with the good and the bad- everything I did, every sin and ever flaw and everything that made me, me. My great great grandmother was a Christian and alot of people say we have alot in common....I guess I never met her but she asked god to send me for my dad because she was worried about dieing and leaving my dad...she called him her baby. I don't know how he's different from then but god is my light and he will walk me through the darkness and I hope to see him, thank him, hug him and live in his kingdom one day 💗💝
Never give up anything for your faith. Don't give into spiritual warfare....use the word of god before you do anything...pray because the devil know that every one person makes the army of god stronger. He wins the fight....I mean just look at everything on social media but hes still scared because he knows that he can't win the war!

I'm 14 and also a baby in christ. This comment is late and you're probably older now, but praying should be natrual. Like talking to a friend. It can feel weird at first but you kinda just have trust that Jesus is there, listening to you. My family all claim to be christians and we all grew up going to church, but I just started actually getting serious. I've tried talking to my brother but he's uncooperative.
It's hard but I just pray God gives me the courage to speak up. Try little things like sending a few family members bible quotes.

Maliyaaa not sure if this will help, but I personally believe that creationism and evolution are the same thing. That the Bible documents evolution as creationism. God is the one who caused evolution to happen, and the Bible explains it in a way that we humans can understand. For example: when God said "let there be light", he caused the Big Bang to happen. I believe that back when the world was created, the lengths of "days" used in the Bible were not equivalent to the lengths of our days today, but rather hundreds of millions of years each. You don't have to believe this, but this is how I make sense of what God has said and what has been scientifically proven.

It's naive to only know your religion (that'd be the same as only experience one type of culture food!) Catholicism is under the umbrella of Christianity, and I think it'd be so awesome for you to learn more and be able to have some open, honest and educated conversations with your Catholic friends!

Many of us fall for such temptation and later, regret.
I used to feel unworthy. Hopelessness surrounds me.
But, I realized that I don't have to waste my time crying over what happened. I can run back to Jesus for he knows the body is weak. Being Christian is not a 'one time only'... you can try again and again, every time you fail.
Failure should not let you hide from Jesus.

And aww I seriously wish I could help you more with the anxiety thing...the truth is that I struggle with it too! I really don't have great advice with dealing with it. Some days can be pretty rough for me, and I HAVE to exercise to let it all out! I love to swim or play soccer to let it out. I also have breathing techniques that I do if I'm in class or I'm not able to exercise in the moment when I'm feeling overwhelmed. Sorry I couldn't be too much help to you, girl! You are not alone!! x
