- Bass Trombone Solo from the 7th Symphony of Gustav Mahler.
Live from the Tokyo Summer Festival 1989.
Radio Sinfonie Orchester Berlin
Conductor - Eliahu Inbal
Bass Trombone - Christoph Schwarz (24 Years)
As a horn player I have to say, that is like the most manly sound imaginable.
I hope this is a compliment!
@@ChristophSchwarz1 it is intended as one , sir. It’s a very powerful sound, and I appreciate it.
@@TimothyReeves So thank you very much!
Inbal told me about his idea, that I have to imitate an earthquake. That would be what happens at this point of the symphony.
As a tuba player, I mostly disagree...

This is the correct articulation for this solo. Idc what anybody else says
For me it's too flat and "ta". Not singing. Maybe try toisten to stefan schultz for me he is the best. (Sorry for my English...) :)
Yep!
It's these kinds of interpretation that give trombonists their bad names, rough sound with zero attempt at musicality.
You should look at how Ben van Dijk do it.
@@obiwan88 Are you really saying there's zero musicality just because of the rough tone?
@@obiwan88 There are so many recordings that are better than Ben's, and this one is absolutely fine. Stop being a snobby virgin.
This video quality is surprisingly good for how old it is
It is recorded on an old VHS tape.
Could you upload the entire performance? Thanks in advance!
👍👍👍👏👏👏🙏
Would you have the whole concert? This version is amazing
That was terrifying. 😮
That means he did it right.
Da hatte er ja noch ein paar mehr Haare auf dem Kopf 😂😂😂
So spricht der Sohn über seinen Vater......
Correct me if I'm wrong but I am pretty sure it's a contrabass trombone playing it. I have never seen a bass trombone that has its tubing go so far out to the bell
I'm sure it was a bass trombone. Lätzsch! I was there live!
It’s a german-style bass trombone. Should be Thein, Lätzsch or something simillar german manufacturer.
@@mezosimilan Read what I wrote......
Christoph Schwarz yes, I wanted to reply on the contrabass trombone comment, not on yours
Reynold bass, saw one for sale on eBay for 2500
