I just inherited the saw back. Been doing research, but you're video was far more informative. I have about 6 more bayonets to look over. Thank you!

Perhaps the most iconic bayonet ever made.
Love how any militaria that is German carries so much lore, myth, and rumor; which is likely why anything German commands such a hefty price on the market today.
Thanks for posting the video - I always enjoy your stuff. Zk

Nice informative video. I have the version without the saw back. I’ve collected and handled many, many bayonets from 1800’s thru WWII and it is one of the few that was made ground to a true edge. Intimidating weapon.

Thanks for sharing. I wish I could get my hands on one. They are very expensive in the US.

Hi, i just got a 1916 dated sawback, i tried to take the wooden grips off for çleaning, but the two bolts/screws just spin around, as u know the bolts dont have a screwdriver slot for grip/tighting/untighting, they are flat, do u know how to unscrew the bolts from the screws? Thanks alot for ur help, great channel by the way👍

I got 2 Butcher blades, one is produced by WKC and one by Frister & Hoffmann Berlin, the Bayonet from Frister & Hoffmann has a false Edge, the one from WKC don't, between the different knife makers all aroun germany

That frog looks Austrian.its not unknown for these to turn up in British 14patt frogs, probably from when they were taken as trophies.i once cut a large very dense cabbage in half with mine the saw really works, bit messy tho.

I had the same thought about the frog, however it's wide enough to fit the 98/05 so I'm not sure which frog it is. Probably a machete frog or something

Got myself one of these. Unfortunately it's demilitarized, but it does have some history knowing it's use as a police sidearm

The name ‘Solingen’ is not pronounced as ‘Zolinzjun’. The S is sharp as in the English word ‘soft’. The ‘ling’ part is pronounced as in the English word ‘king’ and the following ‘en’ is pronounced as the English word ‘an’, as in ‘an English bayonet’.

It is a matter of sharpness. It feels like genuine malee weapon , I have one example being extremely sharp, the other was an original edge of about 50+ degrees of angle which is very awkward. The last one was a victim of ignorance, I had to lightly sand off the scars, not sure if It is a good idea to give it a brand new edge.

I avoid sharpening bayonets, I don't intend to cut with them and many were never sharpened to begin with

I've heard that if they caught Germans with the saw back they would use it on them. How true that is im not sure. Great video

There were no "reported" instances of captured German soldiers being summarily executed for possession of a sawback bayonet.. but nobody living knows the answer to that question I guess
