I have a lee Metford bayonet but it doesn't have a scabbard I would love to find one. That's a lovely lee Metford bayonet

Thank you for your message and welcome aboard. Yes, there are many Lee Metford's missing their scabbards and they are difficult to obtain as many collectors are looking for spare scabbards too. Often the best way to find an original scabbard is to find a 'donor' bayonet with a very poor condition bayonet, but a good scabbard.

Hi, I'm pretty sure that i have a Lee Metford bayonet from 1886 (or at least that what i think is stamped on the ricassso.)
I've always wondered, why does it have a small hole drilled through the wooden part of the grips?

Thank you or your comment and welcome aboard. The hole is for cleaning and oiling.

@@armouryantiquesandmilitaria hi, thanks for your reply - I'd read somewhere that it had been done so a piece of wire could be threaded through and used to fasten the bayonet to another model of rifle. I didn't really think this was a realistic answer especially seeing as the hole looked as though it had been factory made, not added as an afterthought...
