I walked into the prayer room October of 09. I have no grid for the moment. I’m not charismatic I fly from California on the advice of a friend. I was a 40 year old man who had encountered Jesus only 2 years earlier. This hippy looking kid, Corey asbury, is singing “no more shackles, no more chains” and I am overwhelmed with the presence of God and I speak in tounges for the first time because I have no words. And I don’t believe in this stuff. It’s 10pm and the place is packed and wow. What a moment I will never forget it. Life changing does not begin to describe that moment.

When he said "It's clunky for families" I felt that! We were a part of (and still are in a different degree) a local prayer room when we had our first child. At that time, I had a leader come to me at the time and she said "You need to be here! He (our son) needs to grow up in the house of prayer!" . I know she didn't mean to say it in a condemning way, but my response was "He is growing up in a house of prayer. Our home is a house of prayer." and I never heard that comment again. Unfortunately, sometime the HOP structure can be strenuous on families and it is so important for husbands and wives, mothers and fathers to remember that our first ministry, after being a living sacrifice unto God, is our family. If that is failing, all else will as well. Living before the Lord and offering your worship to Him doesn't have to be in a house of prayer, it can be done anywhere! Being called to be an intercessory missionary is a beautiful calling and one that should be followed! But not at the expense of your relationship with your family.

I don't know if you will ever see this, but WOW! This discussion was way more than I expected to get out of it! One of my all time favorite worship songs is Reckless Love, and I literally cry every single time. And just listening to all the flack you received, my heart really understands. The church has its issues for sure. I grew up in the church with a pastor as a father, and I watched the church terrorize my family for living in obedience and following His direction. And so I get that feeling. And then when I heard your story about how you chose your family over more money and fame, etc, and just a little over 2 months ago, my husband walked away from a job (for very different reasons) to protect and heal our family as well in obedience to God. He still doesn't have a job right now, but your story encouraged me that doing the right thing may not look like we expect, but we can count on God leading us, protecting us, and guiding us. He will be there through it all. Thank you for that encouragement. I just started bawling as you talked about that because it was a God moment for me to hear that. Thank you for that!

Love this beautifully raw and honest podcast. The fact that Corey chose to raise his family over money, fame, and sold out arenas. My Lord. That’s what is missing from their generation and those kids are going to be world changers because their dad chose them over everything else. I think the fruit of his humble choices is going to show up in the kids, and them being solid and grounded in family and truth.

@@fredwallace4681 I don’t believe that’s true at all. Our interpretation of God will not be flawed if we simply stick to scripture rather than random thoughts from our own mind. There’s artist by the name of Tauren Wells, who wrote a song called all about you and one of the lines is and I don’t wanna waste my time with thoughts from my own mind because I am not the answer. if we stick to truth, we will never have a flawed view or interpretation of God and who is and Jesus Christ and who he is and what he’s done for us. It’s when we rely too much on our own opinions in our own views and our own experiences that we end up with, a flawed view of God like seeing him as reckless. That might be true from a human standpoint, but is it true from a biblical standpoint? Absolutely not. We can’t apply words and phrases to God that aren’t rooted in truth. God’s love is relentless and everlasting but is it reckless? No. God gave us his word to follow. There are verses that describe his love and not one of those verses calls it reckless.

Such a good conversation to listen in on today. “We are not going to change the world with our opinions. We are going to change the world with our art.” Dying to self has to include dying to my right to have an opinion. Paul put it best, "...make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, mind your own business, and keep your hands busy in your work." To Cory's point on Jesus' kindness, it was Brennan Manning's book, The Relentless Tenderness of Jesus, that began healing my perception of God. My heart's cry is: Father, purge me of anything that distorts my perception of You.

Our family used to visit IHOPKC 3-4 times/year between 2005-2012, and I always loved being in the Prayer Room during Cory's sets. Really fun to hear him on your podcast! I can relate to his story about living a "double life" as a teenager, growing up in a Christian home myself and struggling through living under legalism but not realizing it back then.
Your question at the end, "what do I burn for?" was so timely. I burn for wanting people to feel seen, known, safe and loved. Wanting authentic relationships and providing safe community burn within me. I recognize that my attack is the feelings/fear of being unseen and unknown, of no value, not worth anyone's time and attention (I'm learning to recognize these things five years out of an emotionally and spiritually abusive marriage of nearly 30 years).
I sincerely appreciate you asking this question in this episode, Rita, because it caused me to write it down and see the strength in that burning. I see how it fuels my desire to communicate those feelings when I sing & worship, when I lead my home group, when I'm doing my job in my church's care ministries ... Yeah, really so good! Thank you for having real and honest conversations! These podcasts make me want to sit down and have coffee with you!

He does what he does for the glory of God, not his own. Thanks for being a real example Cory! Wreckless love is STILL my daughters favorite song.

I loved this conversation. There is one very important aspect that I would love to see brought into it: Deliverance ministry. Before the last bit of conversation, I could tell that anger is an issue with Cory, that is why the curse words emerge. There is an element of bitterness behind it.
I really really loved this conversation but deliverance from spirits of rage, anger, bitterness, rejection, hurt, etc. Is a vital need. The Church has neglected it for a long while. If you see this Cory, hit me up. I would love to pray with you. God bless you, bro.

Stumbling, fumbling, knowing the light is warm, AND IS LOVE I catch glimpses of his mercy and his grace. Through almost thirty years since receiving Jesus as my Lord and Savior, I tried to fight the good fight of faith in my own strength. It didn't work. After a self-centered fall, I learned about life in Christ. Now I spend time with God every day, deepening my understanding of The Bible and who Jesus is. When you and Cory talked about "burning" and gifts, and how the attacks on faith will be in the opposite direction of what "lights up" the gift, you helped me see how to quiet the storm that comes with the attack. Thank you both for an honest, reasonable, and respectful interview. Stay steady in the faith. God bless you. Peace.

I always just assumed that with fame came greater opportunities and that your life would be hunky dory, but there's real sacrifice to attain those riches -- even with a song like "Reckless Love." I think the cool thing about Cory is that he's himself (which is what tons of ppl crave -- incl. myself growing up in the church) and still loves Jesus. The way he found Jesus should be a model for how we introduce others to Jesus. Instead of being afraid of people in their sin and brokenness, maybe that's exactly where they need to find him. And we don't have to be perfect to be loved by God.

When I heard this and reckless love and how God loves us right where we're at. It was a struggle cause your past haunts u if u let it. Flesh will always be flesh and Spirit will ALWAYS be spirit. Our journey on this earth always comes down to obedience and the cross. Cory, your song Wreckless Love is such a wonderful expression of the Father's love to His creation and God chose you as the pathway for that song...down in my spirit there's a song brewing about giving up the search for superficial Christianity and the empty words and music that are prevalent in todays Churches. The REAL anointing of a song that's written by the leading of the Holy Spirit that draws everyone to their place at the foot of the cross and the feet of Jesus and a place of surrender that then precipitates a heart burning for what's real in the Presence of the Holy One who sits on His throne forever...

It's great to see Cory's transformation. I believe undoubtedly that God when he puts his hands on someone's life has great things laid out for that person. In fact, he reminds us of his plans for us in scripture. Because he is the God of deliverance he is more than able to abundantly bless us. We simply have to line up with his spirit. My communion with him has been nothing but awesome events that he has laid out for me. The things that he shows me continue to awe me in every way. Each time I wait on him he shows me things that increase my life's journey as nothing but a totally awesome experience.
For example one of my most recent encounters was how he helped me out with a situation. Where I am getting ready to write a book on all the miracles and encounters I have had with him. The most revealing thing he showed me was after I was pressured to write my book by some publishers. He says, No, Not yet. So I obey him. Then weeks later he gave me the reason for the delay. When he told me no not yet, of course I obeyed him. So he tells me weeks later why the wait. He wanted to show me how he knew my thoughts long before I was even born. He showed me how to get that information. He even used two other Christians who had similar experiences. To help me how to know how to retrieve the information. When I discovered it. It was like No Way, that is so amazing. Awed by God again.
I now tell Christians to commit their whole life over to him. 100% Body, Soul, and spirit then watch what he does for you. I began to see so many miracles in 1994. The moment I gave my complete life to him. He even used a snowstorm to bring this person to me three times. This person was a sinner. I was so awed by it all. This will all be part of that book.
My greatest part as a Christian was when he showed up in my home in the Spring of 2021. I did not even recognize him so he then prophesized into my life telling me soon I would know who this individual was that showed up in my home. I did not even think that it was a prophecy at the time. Sure enough weeks later while surfing RUclips I came across this video of this 8-year-old girl who had painted this masterpiece of Jesus. She had this vision with him at 4 years old. It is by far the best painting available of Jesus today.
How do I know? Just look at it, it looks like a photograph. Her realistic tones of flesh and even seeing every hair right down to a strand of hair on his face are remarkable. Even Michaelangelo did not even paint his masterpiece as good. To show you how valuable this painting really is today. A world-famous art collector has also swooped up this painting. It is now worth over a million dollars. (Gone up since the video was produced) I will leave you the video below Rita for your viewers. So the devil could not come by later to say something like all I saw was this video. He wore a different color robe and his face was totally lit up in my home. Akiane explains why she painted it with shadows in another video. I hope you enjoy the video. God Bless!

This is the 1st time I've listened to your conversation. I love how your Authentic Saved Self wasn't sacchrined over to be a man-pleaser. You do have fire in your belly but your honesty, and Grace for yourself and others is clear. And, I am struggling with my belief that I'm not being treated fairly or good in this particular season of my life. I have to daily remind myself not to be discouraged and walk away from the thing I'm doing. This was so GREAT! I cried and cried when Cory left IHOP, because I had just gotten there, dang it! I had heard his team worship throughout the Awakening, and somehow my heart "knew" what Cory carried and that I desperately needed it so I was scared that this "stuff" whatever it was, would leave when the Asbury's left! 😂
So, once again, I'm crying. What a good interview!! Cory exemplifies God's heart and His goodness. I didn't understand WHY this could be so powerful, but you guys explained it tonite! The artistic gifts bypass your barriers and impact you. Now I understand about Anna's art too! What an amazing team they make. I'm totally a fan of his music and hope that God impacts many thru it, not just Christians. Religious people may continue to harrass him, but hopefully it's like water off a duck's back. ❤

This was a bit confusing. As followers of Christ, of course we are all about grace. We are all saved by grace. But we do have the need to encourage one another in kingdom living. And that includes spurring one another on in seeking Godly living. It's not about criticizing one another. But I just felt that u were not willing to take a stand against blatant sin concerning these pastors and leaders that are involved in very serious scandals. The Bible is our standard and whether we can admit it or not, leaders of the church, not a church, the church: body are held to a higher standard. We all fail at times. But does that mean we don't speak Truth according to Gods Word? Love both of u but I feel we all are too easy on sin... both our own sin and others. All must be done in love but must be done. The balance of grace and standing firm on sin has to be Spirit led. But we have to be strong. These men and women that don't represent God by sex sin and greed for money and power. And fame!! They should be held accountable. Idk why that is largely not being done. Mostly not being done by charismatics. Of which I am one. The non charismatics have no problem calling them out and using it against us. But they are right a lot. Being Spirit filled should be a walk of more holiness not a liscense to sin!! Again, this isn't about being judgmental, it's about holding up a standard. Gods Word!! Our compass in this world. Again, I appreciate u both but think about your platform. We all have to guard against compromise. In the way we represent Jesus. By the way we walk, talk, and live. Blessings to u both!❤️

It's been a pick me up many days. Your Life has good fruit don't worry. We can taste and see that it's good. Humility sux and walking through a James moment now. Always cringe when He says go to James. The cup is sweet and sour just as his last taste was. We drink it because of our love just like He drank because of love. His love compells us to sacrifice ourselves on the altar of love. It can be horribly beautiful but we trade it for nothing because we find a love nothing like the earth has to offer. Be encouraged dude! Be blessed, strengthen and renewed in what ever season your in upon this message.

This story resonates with me...I've had a hard time with Church. Attended the same Church for 28 years, from 2 years old to 30 years old. Led worship from the time I was 15 years old in the youth group until I turned 30. Stopped after I just couldn't get behind the mission of the Church anymore. Was belittled on many occasions by our Senior Pastor and I couldn't take the abuse anymore. I've missed that fellowship so much. I led vocals and played guitar, my sister sang, my father played bass, my brother-in-law played drums and my best friend played electric guitar. I'm now almost 37 and my wife, kids, and I just started going to a new Church after my son (14) said that he felt like I'd lost my way regarding the Church. I thank God that he spoke up. I've felt better in the last few weeks after feeling fulfilled in a way that I didn't realize I missed so much.

Prepping for a sermon after a long week of camp last night. I finished up and thought in my head, “This one is really good I’m going to do well. People are going to be amazed.”
And the moment I thought that, the very next thought was, “Great job Patrick, now it’s going to go horrible because of your pride. God is going to punish you for that.”
I had a moment of prayer apologizing for my attitude and realized that God doesn’t want to ruin my ministry, He wants it to succeed in His name.

Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for leaning into and showing through your music that God is KIND. I want to convey that I never understood the grace of God my whole life even though I was a Christian. The word GRACE made me so mad because I just could not understand it. I wrestled so much and could not spiritually understand it or get peace in my life. But after listening to your songs on repeat the past couple of years, and more intentionally Faithful are the wounds of a friend, I now understand more what grace really is and how kind and loving the Father is. My family is so sick of the song (in a nice way) it is just that I play it all the time and tears stream often.

all the big worship leaders aren't where they were because no one is supposed to be a big shot anything. and i believe that also applies to many pastors who probably need to back out of the limelight and enjoy a simple heavenly down to earth relationship with god, family and others.
