- Join us as we visit Juneau during our 7-night cruise aboard the Disney Wonder out of Vancouver, CA to the South Sawyer Glacier, Skagway, Juneau, and Ketchikan, Alaska!
It's time for our second and arguably most exciting port city in Alaska: Juneau! It's an early day as we are doing not one, but two port excursions. First up is a bucket list item - dog sledding! We booked this one through a 3rd party vendor (Alaska Shore Excursions) because the price difference was quite big, especially when you consider we had an extra glacier stop on the Herbert Glacier during our tour! For reference, our price was $749 per person while a comparable one through Disney (with no glacier stop) is $829 for the Dog Sledding on the Mendenhall Glacier (JU01) or $899 for Dog Sled Adventure by Helicopter (JU30). After we make it back on board for our second excursion, we take another shuttle over to the famous Gold Creek Salmon Bake (JU16). It's a beautiful little area with great food, beautiful scenery, and even some wildlife if you're lucky!
Once we're back on board, it's time for coffee and hot chocolate as we depart Juneau and are seen off by a bunch of bald eagles! Then it's time for the Shimmering Seas Soiree, which comes with free drinks, music, and awesome character meet and greets for the 25th Anniversary. After that, we head over to dinner at Tiana's for the Mardi Gras celebration we've been waiting for ever since Cheyenne missed it on the last cruise! Once we finish our meal, we head back to our stateroom to wind down and get ready for Ketchikan tomorrow!

We were a little nervous for it, but the timing worked out well! When we plan, we always try to make sure we have plenty of buffer (especially so we don't have a repeat of Grand Cayman 😂)

What an incredible day! Any idea of the temp that day on the glacier? Drinking glacier water sounds like a dream! I definitely agree with Cody’s take on the fishiness of Salmon; it’s not too bad at all!

If we remember correctly, they said that the glacier is generally about 15 degrees cooler than the city, so that would have put it around the low 40s on the glacier that day!
I’ve noticed Cody using binoculars a lot in your videos. Do you have a recommendation for a good pair for wildlife viewing?
We wish we did! We used an old pair that Cheyenne's dad had from the 1984 Olympics 😂 our biggest tips would be to 1) bring a pair, any pair, even if they're inexpensive ones from Amazon, and 2) make sure that whatever you use has a strap so you can hang it around your neck, grab them quickly, and not worry about putting them down and forgetting them (like Cheyenne's gloves this cruise, RIP). Hope that helps!!
How long are you in port for 2 excursions?! Wow - I can't believe all you did!!! You must be exhausted by the end of this day!!
It was an early and long day! The ship got in at 6:45am and left at 4:45pm. We had to drag ourselves out of bed, but it was definitely worth it! 😊
What is the name of the agency for the elicopter tour?
Our excursion ticket (booked through Alaska Shore Excursions) says that the helicopter company used was Coastal Helicopters and the excursion is called the "Juneau Glacier Dogsled Extended Tour via Helicopter" 😊

Thank you so much for watching, we can't tell you how much we appreciate it! We're always trying to upgrade our equipment where we can. For this particular cruise, we used a GoPro Hero 7 and a Sony ZV-1. We've since upgraded to a GoPro Hero 12 and can't wait to try it out on the next cruise!

how far in advance were you able to book your dog excursion?
What time did you get off the boat to go on the helicopter excursion with dogs? and what time did you come back?
So happy our video could help!! Not sure how helpful our first answer will be because we booked the dog sledding through a 3rd party the day before our cruise 😂
We got off the ship around 7:15AM to make it to our meet up point by 8AM (we got there early since it's not a far drive!). The excursion duration was about 3.5 hours so we probably made it back to the cruise ship between 1130 and 12 in time to meet for the 1230 Salmon Bake!
