I went down the rabbit hole after I watched this episode. As this video is 3yrs old, OneTigris has updated and made a second version of this tent which is not only a hot tent with snow skirts, but it is more like a canvas material. For truck camping, fantastic. So I bought one and I love it.
That thing is huge! OneTigris impresses me with the way they are creating very affordable shelters, the quality seems good, and their designs are unique. They're heavy and I see them more as a car camping design, but I do think they're pretty cool.
With the side opened up it reminds me of our old (early 70's) canvas Boy Scout tents, one called the Baker and the other was the Camper.. They both weighed over 20 pounds and you had to make your own poles at the campsite. I like this tent!
Onetigris is the first tent company that I turned to, after realizing that I was getting too old to build a lean to, or A frame every time I spent a week in the woods. When I got the Black Orca Smokey Hut, I was in love. And, I really like this tent here: I think that I would have it configured the way you had it. I think it's going to do great on your review! Stay safe out there and God bless!
When I was in scouts 50 + years ago we used to do something similar with our heavy canvas wall tents, extra poles and a couple of tarps. We were endlessly finding ways to make totally new tent designs out of the materials we had. This is a very similar concept. I like this tent because it allows the user to adapt to his or her needs. Kids could have a ball with this camping. They could make it big enough to hold several friends at one time.
Jeff Murdock, if a good wind would hit one of those old Baker tents on the door side it might blow to the next county. Ha. I owned a Explorer tent. I really liked that tent. I still love canvas tents. Today I use a 10 by 14 Kodiak Canvas Flexbow VX. It is so much better than we had in the 60s.
Yea, I'm impressed with the design. Not sure it would suit the type of camping I like to do. But is rather innovative. Kudos to OneTigris for thinking outside the box. I'm also intrigued with the Outback Retreat. Looking forward to your review of it.
Love the versatility! Reminds me of my old walrus trecker tarp. This one is taller. I've been seeking a replacement for years! I think this is it! Great for desert and mountain camping where mosquitoes really aren't an issue.
I own two under quilts for hammock camping by one Tigris. Great price for the product. $50 vs $200 from other companies. I’m not spending a fortune for a few weeks of camping each year. Happy to see one tigris making a name for themselves. I would recommend their under quilts
I bought the OneTigris Bungalow 2.0 after you reviewed it and I love it. It withstood one of the heavy rains we had here recently...Hurricane Isaias. I would think that due to the greater expanse of tent material in the Roc Shield it could be an issue with heavy rain and snow. However, as you suggested, angling the poles could promote run-off. Snow would definitely present you with weight bearing problems motivating you to constantly scrape or beat the interior walls to shake the snow off. It's still an awesome looking shelter and I especially like the second configuration you set up. I can already envision an overland camping set up where you can place table, chairs, a cot under the "awning" and you just kick back and enjoy a BBQ/fire pit just beyond the edge of the awning. Awesome review, Luke, and I'll be anxiously awaiting the results of the prolonged rain test. I bought one of those straw folding mats that Walmart sells and based on your measurements I believe it would fit in the tent floor area. I use this mat under an Aqua Quest 10X10 tarp allowing me to walk around with socks on or even bare feet; and I can hop out of my hammock and not worry about touching dirt or wet ground. When I get home I just drape it over my back fence and it'll dry out in an hour or so after hosing it off. No worries about splinters, rocks or ants. Your taking the time to actually measure lengths, widths and heights is an incredible aid to us who are concerned about these measurements. It really helps us in the decision process...so, thank you for that. If I recall I believe you are the only reviewer who does that.
I'm impressed Luke. There is many config. with this tent. I was going to ask about a stove, but you answered that question already. Even room for the big feet friends. They follow me, I don't mind.
@@ethanherd2934 really?? How did you finish the seam where you cut the silpoly. I made a diy stove jack for my hammock shelter. I just used tenacious tape around my cut to stop fraying, but any tips would be greatly appreciated.
I’m hoping to pick one of these up, out of stock on Amazon unfortunately. Though OneTigris seems to have them in stock. Hoping to see more of this tent on your channel Luke. Thanks for the demo!
A reasonable flexi-pitch basic tent selling within a basic tent price range. I need an inclosed tent with a no-see-um screen and a bathtub floor to start to be impressed...because those protections make me emotionally and physically comfortable outdoors. I AM IMPRESSED by the amount of space under shelter! Your tips about changing the poles up to alter the roofline point to a benefit about not having every set of poles shock-corded. This is also IMPRESSIVE for those of us who might deploy it over a raised bed. NEW WRINKLE ON AN OLD BROW: I make reinforced frames for this type of tent using PVC plumbing pipes and associated joints: extra ribs help to maintain the cover geometry and to provide snow load support. DOWNSIDE: a level pitching surface is required, such as a platform built on a favorite site.
I love that they're trying something new. Although for me, I would probably take a big tarp for the 3 pounds it weighs... Those stake loops can be easily fixed with small loops of shock cord - do that to a lot of my gear, especially inners.
I’m two min in and I love that the polls don’t have that stupid rubber bungee cords in them that eventually dry out and crack then break! Love this tent! 💯✌🏻🇨🇦
Great first look! Not something that I would get but I can see where it has its place for some folks. Smart move making it so that it has multiple configurations. Looking forward to seeing the videos of the Outback Retreat...Cheers!
The poles are interesting because I just last night made a set of four 45" poles for my Backwoods Bungalow 2.0. I used .330 aluminum and the set comes in at under 1lb. I made both ends on the poles male so that they would stick in the ground a bit.
Luke to tell the truth first i thank it looks pretty good and a person can put it to what's livable and just looking and watching you put it together I'm starting to like but this right now but you haven't been able to really test it out but this is my thoughts. And thanks for the show and tell keep cool and peace to you all. ✌
That way you have it setup is so spacious. I grew up fishing in upstate NY in the fall...random pop up showers and squalls up that way i guess because of the lake effect. That would be cool to have near a fire with some camp chairs underneath to get dry in a hurry without everyone having to button up in their tents. We would use tarps and things but it was always difficult to find good tie offs at the campground and if the wind picked up it wasnt much help anyway.
Very interesting tent indeed and I agree with other comments that it really is a 3 season tent. Could see lots of uses for it. Looking forward to the test night.
Had a canvas tent with a bell end extension (Kara?) by Blacks & Edgington UK in 1970's of similar design but larger. Three uprights supporting a ridge pole. Lasted till the 2000's. Enjoy. When set properly it survived a number of storms,
Nice looking tent Luke! Though I could see where maybe in heavy rain it would not be so great because to me it would look like the rain would come in underneath. It don't really look much like a tent to me, but more like a very well made tarp. I never seen a tent like that before.
That looks like it would be great for back country base camping in a spruce grove. I usually only go in about 2 to 4 miles for base camping, so the weight would be heavy, but doable. I could walk around easily under that. Looking forward to test night.
I really like the look of that. The one concern that stands out to me is if you have to really hunker down and close it up, it looks like ventilation may be an issue. Other than the big panels being open I don’t see much ventilation goin on.
Really interested in some of these new OneTigris products. Looking forward to your reviews Luke! I'm in South Central Texas and just got back from a weekend family camping trip. Something like this would have been a major plus as a sort of shade / canopy / living area during the day. Definitely would need a bug net to sleep in it comfortably right now, but I can definitely see some great uses for this product.
Thanks for the review. You can do a lot of setups with a simple rectangular tarp as well, so I wonder if this might just be an over engineered solution looking for a problem.
Looks good for car-camping because of the weight. The lack of any kind of apron inside is a concern. I can see it being cold inside in any sort of breeze or even light wind.
I could see this used for a Group camping trip if you plan on setting up a basecamp and you want a place to keep certain gear and maybe firewood dry. The lack of a floor is the one part that turns be off. I don't personally trust a footprint like that to keep me dry in the rain.
With no screens- in Florida? That's kind of a deal breaker for me.....yeah, you can add your own but this isn't a cheap tent as it is.......it IS big though.
@Heart Throb Not to mention Jake the Snake, since there's no floor either.....the more I look at it the more this thing seems like a big expensive heavy, bulky and complicated tarp.
Luke should you and beautiful Susie do another car camp at Lone Wolf Mountain how about using this tent and try attaching to the truck. Would be interesting for sure. Thanks TOGR
Hey Luke, thank you for the review! I like OneTigris, they've good products and friendly budget. BTW, I want to buy my first (normal) tent, which will fit me size and comfort and be budget friendly, I want your advice please if possible to do a review on the Naturehike Cloud Up 2 or 3 (there's couple different versions) and Naturehike Star River. It'll be awesome buddy, thank you!
This looks so good for a drive away awning setup and a good price. I can't wait for the review it's already on my "to buy " list if it get's a good review I will hit buy. then tell the wife
I love the design, shape and versatility of this one. I can see in my mind many ways to use it. But 7lbs! Not exactly a lightweight setup. Maybe for a couple, or a longer camp with a car. But it wouldn't be practical for backpacking.
Hey Luke! Thanks for the great review. I bought the Roc Shield recently in part because of this video. Living in TN, I have to deal with the bugs & creepy-crawly's. When can we expect to see a new video where you show how you install a bug net for this one?
I want at least one side to have that extra panel zip out to make it modular (zip in a bug net section, clear panel, stove jack panel, or none to make it lighter). Failing that, I'm still looking at the Tangram. Thanks, buddy. Stay well.
I am waiting for the full review before getting one, As a tarp/awning for car/van camping this would be almost perfect. But no bying till you try to break it
Might work for car camping but too big and heavy for backpacking. Seems innovative, versatile and spacious. Don’t think it would be very wind worthy. However, probably won’t be any forest left to camp in after the fire season is over in Northern California where I live.
Alright Luke I'm waiting! North Carolina......Smoky Mountain trail.....camper eaten by bear!!!!! Your thoughts? I would have a nervous breakdown out where you and Susie hike. Most of my outdoor experience comes from Golden Gate Park in the City or if I really want something more rural.......Knowland Park.....Oakland, Lolololol. I get scared FOR you guys!
Hmm, I wonder if a stove jack could be added to this tent and the guy lines on the ends would allow for four season use. I have used canvas tents without a floor for winter use. It would be interesting to see this tested for winter use.
Evening, stopped the video at 800 mins. Lads over in England only use this in good weather. It's not for bad weather. But thanks for sharing buddy. Tc Andy 👍😁🇬🇧
It sure looks interesting. I am curious how it does in more serious conditions. Maybe you could play with it a bit and really show us the different setup variants?

One set up in the video reminds me of the 1960s BSA Canvas Baker Tent. Our Troop in NH in the 1960s used the BSA Canvas Explorer Tent.

My Troop in NJ used the canvas cabin style tents as well. No floors, just old swimming pool liners as ground sheets.
The BSA Explorer tent, due to its design did better in wind & winter conditions than Wall tents or Baker tents.
Impress with this set up .. multi way to play around 👍
I saw Mike on bushcraft Bartons use this ten just the other day and it was fantastic he's with you 100% on this tent.

Pretty cool that you can set it up like a Baker Tent. That has always been one of my favorite configurations.
I need to see the storm test for this! I looked for, but didn't see one, even though you said you would do one. It's been 3 years bro
A heavy beast of a tarp.
I'm impressed Luke. There is many config. with this tent. I was going to ask about a stove, but you answered that question already. Even room for the big feet friends. They follow me, I don't mind.
This tent gives me Luxe Twinpeaks vibes!
Right, half the price, but not set up for a stove 😫
Exactly what I thought.
Where. How can I get one of these?
@@mattdalton8149 try googling luxe hiking gear and it should pop right up!
I installed a stove jack on mine for hot tent camping. Cheaper alternative to luxe!

Very impressive tent...really like the roominess of it just wish it had a floor
was just looking at this tent lol. they have another way to set it up now where you can set it up shorter and get a much wider ground space
Take a spreader pole and put in middle of front flap that is open. It will prevent build up of water.
one word: Versatile

Can you take a look at the kodiak canvas swag tent. It looks like a very cozy tent and were heading into that time of the year.
Pretty Cool, at that weight probably more of a car camping tent. Would have liked it more had they included some zip in screen walls

The Golite Shangri-la tents were just the greatest tents in the history of forever.
That's a cool tent ⛺
Would work great here in the New Mexico high desert.

Great vid. I have a OneTigris tent that I really like. I hope your daughter is doing well in the USN. MMC(SS) USN Ret.
