    Hey Justin, Thank you again for another VERY INSTRUCTIONAL tutorial, I have been struggling with "section planes" and I am so happy to watch you select each individual group to illustrate a helpful view into the materials that actually make up the model. super helpful! thank you!

      His intro sounds like every other RUclipsr from 2017. Hope he's updated that. Other than that, his videos are great.

    Really comprehensive at Justin's breakneck speed; the section planes just lost me but will revisit in due course. Learned a lot but soooo much more to go 😪. Thanks JG

    8:30 & 11:00 Instead of meticulously tracing new geometry along the edges of the plywood or underlayment, wouldn't it be easier simply to get the Push/Pull Tool and press CTRL while dragging it up? This creates a new surface and automatically establishes a new boundary between them. Think this might be the ONLY way to do what you're doing with a more complex shape (e.g. curved edges, etc.).

    This has answered my question in the tutorial about textures “ ghosting” through faces and how to remedy this by adding some small thickness . Thanks Steve Jacobs.

    Went to the comment section to see how many viewers reminded you that 2x8 dimensional lumber is actually 1.5" x 7.5" ... and must say I was rather alarmed to find none so far. Yikers. I know you know though. This also tells me you have a very polite bunch of subscribers. Well-done!

      Well I generally am very clear that I'm teaching you how to model using the program, not build the assembly in real life - I'm hopeful that most of my subscribers understand that...

      I am - his book SketchUp to Layout for Architecture is great, and I've watched a bunch of videos with him on RUclips as well. His plans are almost like art instead of construction plans!

    8:15 : Better, faster : click the face, copy, paste in place
    To rename : click the name of the object/component in the Outliner instead of right click/rename.

    Hey justin,
    If I have a house already built in sketchup, is there a way to create separate model with the foundation, wall framing and roof framing using the existing model?

  • @nathan1459

    Hi, is there a way to turn off axes when isolating components in Outliner? I want to pick out components in my drawing but don't want to see the axes that pop up with the selection. Thank you.

  • @willembuiting

    Hy Justin! Nice video. Wouldn't it be a good idea to change the axes of these groups and components so you can model and texture more easy? Just a thought.

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  7 лет назад +1

      You could definitely do that. I'd say for a simple detail, I probably wouldn't unless modeling was just taking way too much time, but for something more complicated, it would probably be a time saver. Good suggestion!

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  5 лет назад

      I don't understand the question - you'd model as many components as necessary to make the detail, and no more?

    Instead of using section planes, why can't you just push/pull the different edges of plywood, underlayment, shingles to where you see the view you want?
