When I was in Canada some 15 years ago, I accidentally dropped my wallet in a store. Seconds later, a lovely man in red serge tapped me on the shoulder, 'excuse me Ma'am, I think you dropped this'. He handed me my wallet and I was star struck. I was too shy to ask if we could get a picture together, but my host wasn't, he went up to the fellow and asked. So, I have a photo as a reminder. But, it really was like stepping into the TV set. God, I love this show, and if the young man who returned my wallet is reading this, I want to say: thank you for not only returning my wallet, but giving me one of the best memories of your beautiful country that I ever had.
confirmed mountie here. after a real ptsd incident this song held me together for weeks. thanks Paul. I know you've moved on, but you were the difference when I needed one. my house is yours.
My grandpa broke horses and raised a lot of kids. One of them married a Canadian. She was my godmother. This is so great. Don't know what else I can say..
I grew up north of 60. I always have great respect for those who dress in the Red Surge. Some great memories with outstanding officers. And some funny ass moments. And as someone who has, call them moments... Huge Hugs.
Oh - how true. I've seen the series in the 1990th when I was a teen. How I wish there were just a few seasons more. Fraser was quite influential on me ... I'd like to keep rules just like him. ^^
Always wanted to get, but either never had money when in stock or never in stock when had money. By time could think order online, price nuts now hard to find. But is on Netflix and recently rewatched entire series.
@@marcelmoreau2733 I feel your pain - I'm hunting for the whole series in German dubbing (my parents are huge fans too since the 1990th, but both don't speak English). I have series 1&2, but 3&4 would cost over 70 Euro. :o

I got a husky because of this show after seeing Dief.. She gave me the most wonderful 9 years of my life, till I had to let her pass. This show is still one of my favourites of all time!!
I was in my mid-to-late late 20's when Due South was on the air. I'm 50 now. It's amazing to me that so much time has passed! Paul Gross is one of my favorite actors, and he's not a bad singer, either. Not to mention, easy on the eyes! I miss this show. We need it back on the air. Maybe INSP or one of the other Satellite networks will show reruns of it. A lot of today's TV shows just don't appeal to me. Television was sooooo much better during the 20th century!
My Dad, who passed from Covid a year ago, used to love this show. He wanted to be Benton so badly (respectful, knowledgeable, and useful in every occasion). We got this show back out as part of nostalgia. My family had a hockey tourney in Niagara, was listening to the show in the van on the way up from Pittsburgh. Now we can't get this song out of our heads. Paul Gross is so talented.
A lovely thing about this show is that you can watch it when you're a kid, a young teen, and an adult, and you'll get more from it every time. You can enjoy the hero and buddy-cop plots at any age. Get a little older and you start to appreciate the way Fraser and Ray (either of them) are almost always there for each other, and the times when they aren't just serve to make it obvious that the partnership is intentional and worth the trouble. And then you get older, and start to appreciate how good-looking several of the actors are, and feel the turbulence of their love problems. And then you realize that the whole time, they were demonstrating civic duty and basic decency toward those who are less fortunate, and these are things that aren't often demonstrated in the media. But these everyday things seeped into your understanding of how regular people should behave, and how everybody can be a hero to somebody.
@@OrigamiMarie My feelings exactly about this! I first watched Due South as an adult, and your last paragraph sums up my reaction. I get the other points; I'm overjoyed to see so many people here commenting about how it has influenced their childhood. We need more tv shows like this. The stories we tell our children are so important - they guide the advancement (or decay) of our society.
Due South is the greatest Canadian television show of it's kind ever. Paul and David made the best duo. Where else could you have a bunch of guys dressed in red surge singing and get away with it. "All The Queens Horses", the episode with the song in it is the best episode, next to "Juliet is Bleeding".
I would suggest two edits: You can drop "Canadian" and there's no other show of its' kind. The first two seasons of this show were among the finest of tv shows ever.
+Ji Fan i sincerely hope you remember these comments when you are as 'old' as paul gross is now. btw, he is only 58. and i hope someone as ignorant as you makes an equally insulting, childish comment about your getting older. good luck to you. you'll certainly need it, as short sighted and ill informed as you are.

Some of the good shows of the 90s like Due South, The Pretender and Early Edition even though a bit repetitive. These shows with good stories only lasted four seasons I would have liked to see one more for each show.
I remember watching this episode when it came out on TV. It was my favorite! Love the song, love the comedy, love the romance. Watching 1:18 and 2:20 here, I hear the wonderful dialog from the episode in my mind. Quite honestly, the romantic relationship between Fraser and Thatcher warms the heart. Never gets old. Thanks for putting this up.
Fun fact: Leslie Nielsen was the son of a Mountie. And he sang the theme for his short sixties Disney series Swamp Fox. Kinda odd having a Canadian play a US Revolutionary War hero...
Thanks for that! I recall reading that Leslie was excited to be part of Due South due to his dad being a Mountie. what a blow to the industry his death was - no one does comedy like leslie did.
I agree with you totally Leslie Nielsen was the most funniest man and he is truly missed and I also like Gordon Pinsent he too as well as being serious actor is very funny too I hope that they will be a Due South movie and get all the cast and crew in making it I would love to see it and it would be fun😊
