I know this video is several years old now and was wanting to make it! I was wondering if this is still your "go to" combo of ingredients to use to make your own DIY Rub n' Buff? Thank you!
Rub and Buff is wax based which is why you rub it on. You have made tinted glue. You will get color this way but not the same effect for antiquing. This is a great idea for tinted glue though. I wonder if you could mix the cosmetics with furniture finishing wax(it dries) to acheive the actuall rub and buff effect?
I think using the powdered shimmer eye shadow and mix it into furniture wax paste it would work and you could buff it much better than with glue...the more you buff the shiner it would be.
i was thinking the same thing they sell clear wax........ and to me this isn't cheaper being that rub and buff is cheaper than mme driving to the store to buy containers, using glue that i paid for AND eye shadow.
Hi from sunny Spain! I think you would get a very similar effect if you used Reeves Iridescent medium as the base. You can get a big tube of it quite cheaply and as an acrylic medium it can be mixed with a lot of different things. Since it is not a glue, it should remain soft till you need it, as long as the container is air tight and will also mix with water if needed but once dry will stay put. I also share tips on my blog, so pop by! sandra
Congratulations on the DT spot, your 1000 subbies, and thank you so much for sharing this awesome DIY! I love it and will try it as soon as my freeze is over. Big huge hugs, Kristina
I cannot wait to make your Rub-n-buff, but yes, you offered your recipe for your better texture paste.. I could not find it...Where can I find it? thank you for your inspiration...
Congratulations on your DT spot and your 1000 subbies! Thank you for sharing how to make your own rub an buff. I bought some at a scrap book store that was going out of business and some of them were dried out. They weren't usable. I saved them because I thought maybe I would come across some way to restore them. Enjoy your time with your family. You are so blessed. :)
Hi. I love the idea of making homemade products it we can instead of buying them. I have a question, if the glue dries and is hard how do you get the color to rub to buff. Thanks Gerardette
I knew there had to be something I could do with that makeup from DT and etching. I bought several of them earlier this year. I'm so excited to try this.
I was watching you video yesterday and I went and got some ice shadow from the dollar store just like yours and put it in the glue and it works perfect thank you very much
It's really more of a DIY metallic glaze then, isn't it? Still, I am going to try because I have some mod podge and those EXACT eye shadows (they work great on polyclay too!). Anywho, do you have a link for the homemade texture paste??? I really want to start altering some more bottles.... love the vid, keep it up!
You are kidding right? Glue and makeup...that's it? Wow. Who da thunk it? Thanks for showing how to make sweetie. Congrats on being a guest designer! Hugs. Karen Sue
Hi Karen Sue !!! Yes Isn't it great i was thrilled to find this !!! Your going to love it because it works on metal and really sticks !!! Thanks hon !!! Hugs Heather
So you don't use the boiled linseed oil technique? I was about to use the boiled linseed method until I ran into this. But next question: is this method working well with the glue and stacked containers without the glue drying out on storage? Thank you
ok, thanks for the honest answer. Luckily I only did 4 containers with my Pearl Ex this way, that stuff is too expensive to waste. I'm back to the boil linseed oil, just make sure it's boiled or it won't dry on your project. It's readily available not only on line but at Home Depot, Lowes and other hardware stores. It's also cheap for a container that you'll probably never fully use :) Thanks again so much.
congrats friend ur so talented as i was tell u friend so proud of u how far u have come congrats and on ur subbies wowzers I enjoy watching ur channel as well are others too luv ya ur buddy...thanks for tip never tried it but going to try on my flowers tfs....

Hello, I'm new and I heard you mention making your own texture paste. Would you mind sharing the formula for it. Sounds interesting. Thanks so much. Loved the video on Rub-N-Buff....who knew???
I don’t know about hers but I’ve used lots of things! The best so far was Sheetrock powder stuff from my husband but I’ve used cornstarch, baking powder, Kwikset nail hole filler, texture mud, golden texture paste which is actually my favorite but it’s expensive! Anyways I’m sure you figured it out after seven years but I saw this and felt compelled lol
I'm so happy for you wow that's awesome getting that guest DT spot. Good for you. And I'm definitely going to try this recipe. I don't have any rub n buff. Tfs hugs Bridget
Hi Bridget !!! Thanks hon !! Right I'm super thrilled to be doing it !!! Yes try it i think it works good.. I've not ever had rub and buff but it looks the same to me. Hugs
+Cheryl Neill Hi Cheryl !!! No i don't think so because it's just glue so i don't think it would stay on glass. Thanks so much for watching you can get rub n buff on ebay www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1311.R1.TR3.TRC2.A0.H0.Xrub+n+b.TRS0&_nkw=rub+n+buff&_sacat=0
Congrats on Guest designing, thats awesome. Love this recipe for that rub & buff.I have a few of those dollare tree eye shadows too. Congrats on all your subbies that's great, Hugs Jane
Hi found your sight and love this home made rubnbuff. Do you think I can use pearl ex. They say to use this product you need to add Gum Arabic but if I add just Arleens glue, do you know if that will work?????
Hi nobody will answer my questions. I just used store bought rub and buff and covered a cabinet handle. It came right off as soon as I buffed it, and it never dried.
HI, thanks for sharing this, I was thinking (as a newbie) that it is to expensive to buy rub & buff as well. Hope this doesn't sound stupid, but you say you mixed the glue with makeup you got at the dollar store~~ is it makeup or eye shadow? I've never seen makeup those colors. Thank you for your time. I want to try this as well~~ xoxo
Carole Ann Colca Hi Carole Ann !!! Thanks for stopping by !! No question is stupid I remember having a lot of questions when I started and I learned a lot by asking those questions. It is eye shadow !! Now that you ask that I see I should have said that in the first place... Those eye showdows I've heard are just like the diamond dust or perfect pearls. Thanks for commenting and again for stopping by.. Hugs Heather
Hi Debra !! I lived in Missouri Years ago for about 5 Years in Hamilton.. I left and came back home the floods and such scared me to death.. My x husband lives there and my son lives there with his wife and my 3 grand babies. I will be visiting them in April... Where do you live.
Hey hi,I live in Farmington, about an hour south of St.louis,in the country love it,we can get some bad floods and storms, they scare me,lol, but we got us a storm shelter put in last spring,so we are ready now, wish we were closer to craft stores, have to drive to the city!
Yeah there was nothing in Hamilton when i was there but we did finally get the walmart in Cameron which was 12 miles away which wasn't to bad. Yeah my son now lives in the country and he loves it !!! I'm not sure how far that is from where he is but i'll have to ask him. I have probable been to Farmington but not sure it was so long ago. Well it's nice meeting you Debra.. Hugs Heather

Clear shoe polish might work too

Hi Paula !! Thanks hon I'm so excited !!! Right love them !! Had to Share 1!! TFW Hugs Heather
Will this stick to plastic? Like a plastic toy gun?
+G. Reyes It's will but i'm sure it would come off it's not as good as the real rub -n-buff because it's just glue... Thanks for watching Heather
Do you have the recipe to make it.
Vanessa Bourque There's really no recipe I just added the makeup to the glue and that was it... Thanks for watching !!! Hugs Heather
Ideas2come Thanks.....
Don't really see how using tacky glue compares to rub & buff. Rub & buff is like colored wax. Easy to manipulate. Glue is not, you can't rub it on & off. I would prefer to use the clear wax & add the makeup powders. Easier to manipulate
You made colored glue, not rub-n-buff 🤣
Use bees wax
