Amazing footage. The Upwey banker! Spent lots of time with daddy (RIP) in the 70s watching trains from the old Alexander Bridge and surrounding area. Lots of activity - passenger trains - goods - loads of sidings - Ranaleigh Road signal box - lots of shunting activity.
I just love this compilation - it takes me back to my childhood and one of my favourite places was Weymouth regularly travelling on the line from Yeovil.
As a lad my husband spent amy hours, with a fold-up chair on the embankment above Upwey Halt, with a flask, and pack-up, when in the Summer there was a train every 20 mins.....happy memories
What a wonderful film, thankfully there were a few people with the foresight to capture these beautiful beasts for posterity! Truly these were better days!! Thank you for posting this 👍🏻😊
I'd say this was taken earlier than 1966, as 41324 was withdrawn the year previously. It's unusual to see so much double-heading up Bincombe bank as assistance from the rear was much more common.

Great compilation - how busy that area was, almost all steam worked - thank you!
Absolutely wonderful footage bringing back childhood memories of train spotting at Upwey and Broadway station . Sadly so much has changed .

I lived here in the last days of steam and can remember it well
