Amazing footage of Cardiff General Station and 86A shed, even better footage of Neyland shed and Carmarthen, brings back many, many memories of standing on Cardiff Station and sitting in the cab of station pilot 8484 getting warm.

Great film thank you for sharing. It really does show how neglected steam locomotives were as they were withdrawn in favour of diesel in the early 1960's. Unloved, dirty, steam leaking from every joint and no longer maintained, what a way to treat a Castle.

Ah! My home territory, west Wales, Whitland (shed code 87H), and several engines I remember specifically. Thank you so much for posting this.

Putting aside the wonderful content, the quality, given the equipment and film of the time is just amazing. Big thanks for posting.

I thought the same. I'm sure my early '90s camcorder didn't produce pictures of this quality.

First time I've seen at GWR 2-8-2 Tank on film, hopefully we might see one steam in preservation in the future.

As a retired driver it’s interesting seeing the Cardiff area in the early sixties, with the steam locos in there working cloths.
    Thank you for sharing.

    Wonderful. Simply wonderful.
In a way, I’m glad that there is no sound because that means that you can appreciate the sight of the engines much better.
Cheers and keep up the great work - Alex

This is a great video for modellers of this era. Seeing it in colour has reassured me that yellow fronted diesels were running along side steam bearing in mind that steam ended quicker on the Western region. Colour for the coaches is also great as black and white isn't very helpful but a green coach attached to a maroon one is very interesting. Thankyou for posting.

Great video. Brought back fond memories of visits to my grandparents who lived next to the main line by Splott Bridge in Cardiff.

Great footage, many memories of watching the trains pass by at Cardiff General back in the early 60s.the Gloucester-Cardiff working was one of the last(I think)steam turns into Cardiff,I rode this train, behind a Grange,on 4/10/65,I remember the date because the next day I joined the army!.

The days when young lads stood in awe and engine drivers were regarded as heroes and they were train drivers. Diesel and electric are all very good but have no personality nowadays. Yes they were not clean but you knew they worked and each engine had a personality, sadly no more. Going to a heritage railway is like going to your favourite Aunt, and each visit would be a reassuring hug.
