the "broken" street fighter 2 you showed was actually the "Koryu" version thats hacked and purposely broken each character has crazy moves and abilities like ken and ryu when they dragon punch tons of fireballs shoot out some go slow in a cluster, some follow, and some can be controlled

no, if this was a 60dollar sytem sure, but these things are actually running a pandoras box 3 and still cost quite a lot of money so despite jgfjgfify's holy crusade it still is not worth the money.

I have the 4s. The emulation on CPS2 and NeoGeo is about as fine as most other products that have those, but because the 4s has many silly bootleg versions of many of the games it gives people a worse impression. That said, Sega stuff legit runs bad on it, even stuff that should not be nearly as intensive as CPS3 which runs pretty well. After Burner and Hang On are basically no good on it and even Sonic the Hedgehog has a palette issue on Green Hill Zone which, while not crippling the gameplay otherwise, just makes you cringe to see.
I just today found one of these 5s systems at my local Goodwill and paid 47 bucks for it. I had some screen tearing while using my HDMI, but when using the VGA output it cleared that right up. I must have been blessed by the emulation gods because other than that, I've had no issues whatsoever when it comes to the games other than the language barrier on a few. Everything plays as it should even the Mega Play games

Also, that was Metal Slug 2 you were playing, which was NOTORIOUS for slowdown, even in the arcade. So much so that SNK re-tweaked it and re-released it as Metal Slug X.
I decided to build my own portable arcade multi-console and it is coming along pretty good. I used an SSD to allow faster boot and loading of games and added a wireless Xbox 360 receiver so I can hook up to 4 wireless Xbox 360 controllers. I can play games on the go with it built in monitor or hook it up to the big screen through HDMI or VGA and play that way.
4:15 No it doesn't. I can guarantee you're remembering it wrong. Metal Slug was always full of slow downs even on the original arcades. It was quite normal to go slow motion when there was a lot happening on the screen.
I bought a Pandora 5s from a seller on eBay and it works great!!! I love it!!! I can’t say I’ve put in hours into every single game but the 300 or so that’s I have, always play great! Is it possible Rerez is just unlucky when it comes to these devices?

In fact most these games are two player games and my buddy and I played a couple hundred of theses with no slow down. We actually played through till completion about two dozen of these and we had no problem! This is a great buy and well worth the money!!!

I got myself one of these systems around the time you looked at the first one. I ordered a 4s version i believe, with 800-ish games. But what i received was version 5, with 999 games. I got it mainly for the old Nintendo arcade stuff, till then i had never tried VS super mario bros. So it was pretty sad to me that that exact game ran like horsesh*t. Was definitely sad about the Sega stuff not running properly too. When all is said and done though, i definitely still got my moneys worth of enjoyment out of the thing. I spent hours and hours just playing the TMNT arcade games. I definitely missed those from back in the day! For what it is, it's pretty cheap. And hey, since then, VS super mario bros, among others, have become available on the Switch. :) But, i do wish there was a little more quality, rather than just quantity. :) Great video man. Definitely. As i said, it's worth the asking price for sure. I was just a little bummed out that the games i actually wanted to play, were the ones that had the most issues. That was a little unfortunate, but i'll live. I'm hoping that at some point, they'll release an improved version with all the games running as they should. Don't know if this is true or not, but I've heard that the s versions of pandora's box are knock offs of the original device. The problem with the slow down has to do with the device overheating, and the PAndora's box 5 has a fan installed into it to prevent these issues, where it appears the S versions do not. I've heard mixed reviews, some people absolutely hating it and other saying its the best thing they ever bought. I think the biggest issue is like you said in the video theres really no quality control, so one model can vary drastically from another version. Such a shame since if it did work flawlessly, it would be a must have in any collection.
If you buy them from the official seller on ali (3a gamestore) you'll always get an official one, and those work pretty great. They even came out with a wireless version, as in: you hook up the box to the tv and you get 2 wireless arcade joystick controllers. Don't know how that one performs though but the normal 5 works great
Actually I think the Street fighter 2's that "don't work" could be hacked roms called rainbow edition, where many things were changed or added to make it crazier.
With a Fat32 formatted USB key, create a new folder "GAME" and insert MAME roms (all do not work so try) it adds easy a hundred free games to the Pandora Box.
I love these reviews. It would be great if these companies sent you the product BEFORE release, then fixed all this crap and sent a production model to re-review. I'm not sure why they send you all these products knowing that you'll rip them apart, then ignore it and produce another model with similar problems.

This thing is literally a scam. For that kind of money everything should just work properly, you can build a better working arcade console with a raspberry pi for that kind of money

The original Pandora's Box 6 already came out from the guys at 3A Games. You should check that one out. Way better hardware and way better software. I bought one a month ago and I'm super happy with it. Now you can also add MAME, FBA and PSX games on it. Although not all the games you add will run, the ones that do run play smooth.
And Hang-on look like it's... just about hanging on. Hur hur hur~ And Outrun sure isn't Outrunning anything on here, ain't it? Hurhurhurhurhurhur!!!! ... Sorry, couldn't resist.
I believe the Pandora boxes use the Mame Emulator. I tested these same games on my i7 PC running the Mame Emulator and they ran just fine with no slow down at all. Thus I believe it is a hardware issue as well - the hardware in this box is not up to scratch to handle the emulation / emulator.
When you talk about afterburner I feel the same way with digital Lawrence Welk Show I liked it better on analog format. When I mean is it sounded better on analog audio.
That Street Fighter Version that "didn't work" is actually a Taiwanese bootleg that was intentionally hacked like that. I actually have that rom intentionally installed on my MAME machine at home because it's an absolute blast to play and funny as hell.

This isn't a Pandora's Box 5. It's a hacked 4S. The Pandora's Box is the board inside... Not the damn controller it sits in. The 5 has 960 games and has a fan and blue case. Just go to ETA Prime and educate yourself.
is this the best device to get im looking for a quick way to play arcade games that I loved as a kid at home such as street fighter 3, marvel versus Capcom, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, mega man power battle, gradius, raiden, etc? if someone has an answer about which one I should purchase and from where that would be cool. amazon is selling this for $165, which isnt bad.
Something I've always wondered in regards to these dual-stick setups, but never could adequately discover the answer to, is if they can be configured a la Smash TV or Robotron. IOW, if one of the sticks can be set for movement and the other stick for omnidirectional firing Anyone know?
If you are in China, this is quite common, since this thing is originally designed for using in real arcades. To my knowledge, every arcade I visited in China got at least one arcade machine made out of this, and personally I feel that older Pandora Boxes such as Pandora Box 3 works much better than those newer ones, and back then Pandora Boxes are not used in home systems.
Looks like it would be fun if it worked. Darn shame. If it ran correctly, had the actual arcade games with intro and cut scenes, I would buy it. I bet alot of other people would too.

Okay, I get the point that this product isn't everything the manufacturer says it is. Thank you Rerez for saving me from spending a couple hundred bucks on something that doesn't live up to it's claims. Although some of the games showcased look cool as they were presented, I'm mostly interested in games that were originally released in 1985 and before (Donkey Kong, DK Jr., Popeye, Ms. Pac-Man, you get the idea). What's the best way to go for getting hold of a collection of these old games? Thanks in advance.

You should get the Pandora’s box 5 the original one not the clones. Which plays mortal kombat flawless and it has a quad core processor and 2gb of ram. Compared to the clone that are single core and 1gb of ram.

Most of the people who make these pandora's box systems only make the hardware and have nothing to do with with actual software. They tend to get it from various chinese sites. I have a jamma pandora's box game cart which they tend to use in the older models. In fact in the older models you could switch our the pandora's box cart with an actual jamma arcade game.

Metal Slug 2 does actually run that slow, that's why SNK made Metal Slug X.
Metal Slug 2 does have slowdown moments however it's not as bad as what you're seeing from this system in the video.
I have the MVS cart, it runs that slow.

Use the 3A version of Pandora’s box, it’s the “official” one. Their official store is through AliExpress and the 5S does not exist

Metal Slug runs slow on the original hardware. If you set it to 130% overclock on the emulation you get a better than original experience

I believe that metal slug ROM runs faithfully, back in the day the game didn't managed multiple enemies well until metal slug X.

This isn't a Pandora's Box 5. It's a hacked 4S. The Pandora's Box is the board inside... Not the damn controller it sits in. The 5 has 960 games and has a fan and blue case. Just go to ETA Prime and educate yourself.

is this the best device to get im looking for a quick way to play arcade games that I loved as a kid at home such as street fighter 3, marvel versus Capcom, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, mega man power battle, gradius, raiden, etc? if someone has an answer about which one I should purchase and from where that would be cool. amazon is selling this for $165, which isnt bad.

Something I've always wondered in regards to these dual-stick setups, but never could adequately discover the answer to, is if they can be configured a la Smash TV or Robotron. IOW, if one of the sticks can be set for movement and the other stick for omnidirectional firing Anyone know?

A local arcade place modded this into an arcade cabinet and capitalized on it.
They probably bought a Pandora's Box 5s jamma. They make cheaper ones that you can plug into an arcade cabinet. They're just as garbage.
If you are in China, this is quite common, since this thing is originally designed for using in real arcades. To my knowledge, every arcade I visited in China got at least one arcade machine made out of this, and personally I feel that older Pandora Boxes such as Pandora Box 3 works much better than those newer ones, and back then Pandora Boxes are not used in home systems.

Looks like it would be fun if it worked. Darn shame. If it ran correctly, had the actual arcade games with intro and cut scenes, I would buy it. I bet alot of other people would too.
dont let jgfgfify rope you into buying a crappy bootleg, make your own using a raspberry pi if you have some diy experience or buy an official pandoras box instead of the bootleg versions rerez keeps reviewing. work about 100x better

Okay, I get the point that this product isn't everything the manufacturer says it is. Thank you Rerez for saving me from spending a couple hundred bucks on something that doesn't live up to it's claims. Although some of the games showcased look cool as they were presented, I'm mostly interested in games that were originally released in 1985 and before (Donkey Kong, DK Jr., Popeye, Ms. Pac-Man, you get the idea). What's the best way to go for getting hold of a collection of these old games? Thanks in advance.
It sucks that you had the experience you did. I got a unit that runs most games very well/ there have been a few games that didn’t run that well but in the whole I’m impressed

You should get the Pandora’s box 5 the original one not the clones. Which plays mortal kombat flawless and it has a quad core processor and 2gb of ram. Compared to the clone that are single core and 1gb of ram.

Most of the people who make these pandora's box systems only make the hardware and have nothing to do with with actual software. They tend to get it from various chinese sites. I have a jamma pandora's box game cart which they tend to use in the older models. In fact in the older models you could switch our the pandora's box cart with an actual jamma arcade game.
