Summary of Charles Neal's coleslaw recipe below for anyone else who came back to look for it!
Ingredients:
-cabbage (must have green leaves)
-apple cider vinegar (5-6T)
-Duke's mayonnaise (6T)
-sugar (1/4c)
-salt and pepper
Steps:
Use mandolin to grate the cabbage then hand chop to get the right consistency. Put in bowl with salt and pepper and stir together.
In separate bowl, combine mayo and vinegar, then add sugar. Once mixed well, combine with cabbage, mix, and refrigerate.

Almost the way I make mine, except I use Kraft Mayo. The sugar is key with very little vinegar.
That mad cow joke wasn’t anti-comedy. The cow that thinks it’s a penguin has mad cow disease because its insane.
Very wholesome. That’s the word. I like that calming music and when Link becomes more calm and southern with his dad. Made me laugh when they both agreed they are no dumb questions. I like that. Safe place to just be yourself…wholesome
The funniest bit on Mailbag is when they don't get the mad cow disease joke, I'm guessing that was from a UK viewer? CJD (Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease) was really rife when I was growing up, so much so that my mum wouldn't even let us eat beef or beef burgers for over a decade. I've heard this joke in various formats in the school playground. Link is thinking mad = angry, when mad = insane

My grandparents are from Tennessee and would get us those red hotdogs and when my cousin and I would take them to school for lunch in Illinois and people were so freaked out.
The family surprise proposal would work at an outdoor venue like a park or beach. The person planning the proposal could tell the family to go to the park (maybe rent a pavilion and have balloons etc), but tell the girlfriend you want to go for a walk alone after dinner. When the two of you get to the park and see the family, she’ll be really surprised. That’s when he should drop a knee and propose. Then cake. Lots of cake. ❤

Hey Mr Charles. Watching this episode in Buffalo NY. And gonna go see Niagara this week and maybe some Maid on the Mist. Seems just a few weeks ago you were talking about your trip to Niagara. Took us 16 hours to get here from SC . We had rain and a 4year old lol. Love seeing the Dispatches. Keep em coming. Plus now I know how to make some good Slaw. My grandmother would approve. My grandmother was a good ole SC county girl and could cook like no one's business. And then you are spot on with the Sherwin Williams paint color choice. I was a painter for a while and it was a solid and popular color tint. You have so much good knowledge. Love these episodes.

I forgot the name of the person who asked for proposal advice but, if you’re into drive in theaters the one near me will put a message on the screen that’s like “I love you!” Or “will you marry me” for like $5. You could probably get the family to hide in their cars and then sneak around closer when it’s time and then be like “let’s go to the concession or something” it’s not the most classy thing so it may not be your vibe but i think it would work for secret proposal purposes but I guess another option is disguises lol.
Just wrote down the slaw recipe and titled it “Charles Neils Slaw” and put it in my recipe box 🥬 when my kids go through my recipes in 30 years they will wonder who in the world is Charles Neil and how did mom know him??
I’ve lived across the US and tried various regional hotdogs. Koegel’s from Flint, MI is the best I’ve eaten. Their bologna is my favorite as well.
You guys should run a raffle for some of those string beans. You'd make a fortune.

We stick a ham hock in the pot when cooking green beans. It’s the only way my husband will eat them.
I make my slaw the same way, except I use a cheese grater, and I only use about a cap full of vinegar. I like my slaw sweet, with just a little bit of tang from the vinegar. I even use Jesse Jones!!
What are the ingredients found in Duke's Mayonnaise? Soybean oil, eggs, water, distilled and cider vinegar, salt, oleoresin paprika, natural flavors, calcium disodium EDTA added to protect flavor.
The mad cow joke was hilarious! Incongruity between the offhand way he revealed he thought he was penguin and the disease being called "mad" makes it funny. Now it's not funny because I explained it.

Living in the south my entire life, there's not much better than a slaw dog with a Jesse Jones wiener. Your recipe for slaw is similar to mine, but I just wing it and hope I get it right. :) You're right about the cabbage, a nice juicy head of cabbage with green leaves is the best. I'd luv to know your chili recipe and see how close it is to my grandmas.
