Hey shiplife! I would like to know what are the things must do and must not do on a first day on a cruise as I am going on the Carnival Legend (Really really similar to the Pride) in 3 days. Well I'm departing saturday. Thank you! :)
I agree with you. For many, the 15 drink limit becomes a 15 drink challenge. If there is no limit, you take away that need to hit your “goal” and I would bet that the majority wouldn’t even count how many drinks they had in a day.
I know in my twenties it would have absolutely a challenge that my friends and I would have done our best to hit that by the end of dinner. We were all in drinking shape back then.
I hit the 15 each day. I get a few more from my guests pkg and people at bar send me drinks now and then. One thing though. I don’t get sloppy. I can drink all day and not be mush.
@anthony273 I hit 15 everyday as well. If you pace yourself it is easy to hit 15 and just be tipsy.
Better yet, just lower the price and lower the limit a whole lot!
In my worst phase of life I couldn’t clear 15 drinks in 24 hours! 😂 Especially on a vacation as dope as a cruise… why be sick?
IMO, There should be a lesser drink package, they could charge $20 less per day and limit it to 7 alcoholic drinks per day. This might help the excessive " I am going to reach my limit"
I was thinking the same thing, plus maybe they'd make more sales on that option, too.
This is such a valid idea 💡
Great idea!
That's what my first thought was too.
I could NEVER drink that much
I think what some are not understanding is that it also includes specialty coffee, milk shakes, energy drinks, bottled water, soft drinks. Factor those things in plus 15 alcoholic drinks and it definitely pays to get it. I’ve cruised with it and without it. And will never cruise again without it on cruise lines that offer it. The average drink is around $12-$15, soft drink $3, big bottled water $3.95, energy drink $5, specialty coffee $5
So let’s say I drink a minimum of
2 mimosas for breakfast-$12x2= $24 ( they are small)
get a big bottle of water, $3.95 (we have to stay hydrated)
2 Cadillac Margaritas- $15x2=$30 (hanging on the Lido. This is what I drink on land)
2 soft drinks- $3x2=$6 (lunch time)
1 glass of wine-$15 (dinner)
Total $78.95 my package is covered for the day and that’s only 5 alcoholic drinks.
I hate that they make everyone of drinking age staying in one room pay for the package . Because like you said some of us don’t drink and it makes it bad for the person who wants to get the drink package .
My BFF hasn't had a drink in over 20 years, she shouldn't be forced to buy one as a former alcoholic
She’s doesn’t have to drink . They just make you do it because they’re afraid of people sharing the drinks. I agree with you about them forcing people to buy one it’s not fair for the people who don’t drink .
This, plus there is a 15 drink limit.
J, I can agree with some of what you said, but personally, this is what works for me: 5-6 drinks per day is no big deal to anyone who does drink. That coupled with at least 2 bottles of water and 2 specialty coffees or teas more than satisfies the dollar-per-day breakdown. Looking at it this way, you can more than cover your drink package price.
True. I don’t get drink packages to drink alcohol non stop. I get them to drink everything that’s included and not have to think about how much I’ve spent here and gratuity there
I agree.
@@Narutocoolcat me too.
That's the math I use too! I use 4 per day as my measure though. The last thing I want is a surprise bill...
The BIG problem is the price of the drinks. $6 drinks that cost $15.
I 100% agree with you Jay. 14 Carnival cruises and I only had the drink package once and it was free (right after Covid) and I challenged myself everyday to hit that magical 15 drink limit and only made it once. Whereas I've cruised with Norwegian 4 times which included the drink package and never felt the urge to drink that much.
I’ve got the drink package every cruise I’ve been on. The main problem is ppl who think just because they’re on vacation they can drink more than normal. I’ve seen ppl sloppy drunk off of 1 drink.. know your limits ppl
I don’t think how many drinks I drink is any of your business. As long as I’m not bothering you or using YOUR money , why the hell do you care ?
I'm learning my limits at 50 are different. Might not need package anymore. I've turned into a cheap date.
Bro.. you are giving out great content. Almost at 300k. Congrats in advance
Thank you 🙌
I've never consumed near the 15 drink maximum and have never even tried. I do, however, still make sure to get my money's worth. I get the most expensive cocktails ($12-$14), and I drink plenty of non-alcoholic beverages, too. I always get bottled water with every drink, cups of coffee (including spiked coffee), juices, shakes (including spiked shakes), etc. As far as the cocktails, at the price point I get, it only takes about 5 to break even for the day. It works for me!
I think I made it to 8 once on princess
I totally agree with you I s3 the cost not the quality of how much u drink
@dlow1269 Exactly! It doesn't take 15 drinks to break even, come out ahead, or make it worth it. One just has to be strategic with their choices.
Sameeee
Ditto! What you’ve described is exactly the game plan my husband and I employ every time we cruise with a drink package 😂
The Cruise I was just on, 70,000 Tons Of Metal, didn't have a Drink Package. I don't know exactly why, but I heard something about they'll be losing money on it. I don't drink alcohol, anyway. So, I got the beverage package that includes soda, coffee, juices, and non alcoholic mix drinks. It was great!
Also an important note is many folks me included wont touch alcoholic drinks till 7-8pm and finish at the club at 230a
1st cruise was Royal and I was too cheap to buy any alcoholic beverages! Lol!
@@wandabrown8446😂😂😂
I agree. Having been on several cruises with no limit, I find myself drinking less. On my first Carnival Cheers experience, I made the 15 drink challenge a few times because I also saw it as getting my $ worth. Now, being much older, I just drink what I want w/o feeling like I need to get blasted to recoup my investment.
Few tips for anyone going on a carnival cruise in the summer.
1. There will be approximately 3,000 cruisers with you.
2 . 5 min wait between drinks so you will have to wait in the long lines. This makes it difficult to even approach 15 drink during the peak times.
3. If you want a shot at getting your moneys worth go to the casino bar as soon as it opens. 1 shot of liquor then 5 min later pick your mixed drink of choice to pour the shot in. Repeat until ready to gamble or whatever.
4. Pay for the highest priority debarkation position possible. I would’ve paid $200 to get off that boat quicker than 2 hours.
Jay, you kill me with your robe!!! LOVE IT!! You're the new Hugh Hefner of Cruise News!! 😅
I love that old man drinking from a straw. I've never been tired of seeing him over and over. If anything, I wish we could get an update on him 😂
I brought the cheers package for myself and my husband our last cruise. It was a 3 day sailing and 15 drinks is plenty drinks for anyone. We are amateur’s and never maxed out the drink package.
Carnival definitely needs to change something. There's a difference between 15 light beers, 15 glasses of wine, 15 bourbon drinks, and 15 "drink of the day" drinks. 🍻
I agree with you! I deejay in bars and every time there's an Open Bar party people feel like it's a challenge to drink every drink! And usually the ones who try to "beat the system" are the trouble makers!
Agree. Open bars and free food somehow bring out the absolute worst side of humanity.
Next cruise I chose NOT to get the drink package. I never come close to their limits. I will come out ahead on a per drink cost.
That's what we do for every cruise we go on it works for us
15 is plenty in mho, but I don't think everyone in the cabin should be forced to purchase it. My 80 year old mother was not a drinker but I am, if she sailed with me I had to fork over the money for her too or forgo the package. I always chose the latter and ended up with a 300.00+ bill at the end of a 7/8 night sailing. They need to fix this.
Sounds like they're saving you money. 60 a day would have come out to 420-480 per person, or 840-960 for you and your mother that doesnt drink, so... what are you complaining about?
Exactly!!! I travel with 2 others and we always run into this problem.
@anotheryoutube4635 I think it's a fair complaint. You're right, he/she did save a bunch of money. However I'm with the poster in saying I shouldn't have to choose to either pay per drink or buy a full drink package for someone who doesn't drink just cause they're in the same room.
@anotheryoutube4635 I think I did say 300+, and I wasn't complaining but instead stating my opinion genius.
@bkameka69 exactly my point, thank you.
My husband & I always get the drink package. 🍸
Ur smart
My cousin and I were looking into the drink package and passed for that very reason. Both of us knew that if we got the package, we would strive to reach the limit every damn day...
How hefty was your bill towards the end.debating on if i should spend the $500 for 7 days
@AB-nq9qg I used the app to keep me at $300. That doesn't count port drinking though...
@crazysis02 that was another thing I was considering I'm like you're still going to come out of pocket to drink either way. Thanks for the response
@AB-nq9qg yeah. We're the type that likes to have a nice buzz through the day so paying out of pocket is no big deal but if you're there to party, the drink package makes sense.
I just got off the valor, early February out of new Orleans and i met a woman at 10:30 pm the 1st night who was drinking bloody Marys and she was already blasted.after talking for a while i helped her back to my room,so I'm all for certain people trying to hit that 15 drink limit.😊😊😊
I guess you treated her to a package she didn't have to pay for.
I always find my way to at least 10 drinks. I drink lots of water and a few turbo shots a day lol so for me its fully worth it
I’ve maxed at 13 once lol
MSC doesn’t have a limit and we don’t see the problem on there as we did on the carnival cruises we took
I'm MSC diamond and I've never seen this issue. This past week when boarding I saw a solo female passenger who was too hammered to check in.. so sad
@@kcprice1115 we. Are now diamond on both but carnival we have 60 cruises and we have seen a lot of crazy stuff. I believe it’s the type of people that go to carnival because they think it’s a party . It’s changed for carnival with the changes they have started but after the next and last 3 cruises we have booked on carnival, will be the last with them unless they offer us better than MSC . I don’t see that happening. We even booked 2 more MsC s yesterday and we have now 6 booked with them over the next 15 months . We even booked balcony rooms with drinks and Wi-Fi and $100 onboard credit for $1400 on each. Royal carnival none of them come close to that with that service. I just miss the unlimited free wash service and the owners perks of extra on board credit. But MSC to us is great but they didn’t match us like they say. We got gold and it took us 4 cruises to actually get to Diamond with them . But we will now have 13 cruises with them this time next year
Have to remember, Carnival are the “fun ships”, so it’s also a different type of crowd. The partygoers would be more likely to let loose on Carnival, compared to the typical MSC cruiser. I’ve seen Carnival guests get completely hammered, and have to be carried back on board
MSC package is awesome!
I agree, NCL does not have a limit and I have not seen a problem either. The is one reason why I don’t sail carnival
I have sailed out of NYC several times on NCL and only had to pay taxes on the drinks until we left port--but did not have to pay for the drinks themselves.
I think you nailed it. I have been trying to make the same argument for years.
I got off Mardi Gras yesterday and had a fantastic time. I got the drink package and do not regret it at all. Not once did I ever get near 15 drinks. I bought it so I didn’t have a drink bill at the end. I paid for as much as I possibly could ahead of time. I can’t wait till I get to board her again ❤
I like the idea of, after meeting the 15-drink limit under the drink package, if the person wants to continue drinking, the have the right to purchase additional drinks on their accounts as long as the bartender feels the passenger is not drunk. In all the time I have had the drink package, I may have met the 15-drink limit once or twice. My husband on the other hand, has a high tolerance when it comes to alcohol. He has met the 15-drink limit several times and is still able to have more without getting totally intoxicate.
We use drink package for milkshakes & coffee🥤☕️
Me too
We get the juices from the coffee shop and bring them home if we don’t drink them all
how lol@@mrs.jordanloves
This is a question for me. What kind of drink package should I buy if I don’t drink alcohol but I do love juices, coffees and other such yummies?
@@labellesouris1412 I don't know about Carnival. Although my bf enjoys a cocktail or wine on occasion, I do not drink alcohol at all, so knowing that Carnival is largely known as the "booze cruise", we have only been on Royal Caribbean and Princess so far (Princess is actually owned by Carnival). They have non-alcoholic drink packages which we usually both get (and my bf will just buy whatever few alcoholic drinks he wants). It works for us. Princess had actually had a special coffee package which included all the fancier coffee and tea drinks, juices, and non-alcoholic cocktails. Interestingly enough--THAT had a 15 drink maximum. For a 7 day cruise (where the first day is more like a half day, and the 7th day you have to disembark like 8 am in the morning)--that works out to 3 specialty drinks a day which was perfect for me. You can get regular coffees, tea, soft drinks, juice, etc in the main dining room and buffet or anywhere where meals are included with your cruise. Beverages served with complimentary room service breakfast as also included at no extra cost, and Princess (at the time we went, pre-Covid) had a pretty good complimentary room service menu (that I didn't know they had until halfway through the cruise). Just do your research. I know cruise lines are starting to charge for things that were inclusive before or bump the price up for packages.
Totally agree. It’s not a limit but a challenge. I’ve done a lot of homework and 6-8 seems to be the break even if you’re taking advantage of the nonalcoholic beverages. I was sober on my first two cruises and my next one in November will be the first with the drink package. It’s gonna be interesting to say the least lol.
If I have 8 cocktails, 5 bottles of water and 2 cokes. I was successful and the package is well worth it. Even non big drinkers should buy it in my opinion.
Thats a great breakdown. But, I couldn't drink 8 cocktails in one day. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😊
@@rosalynnecole23 even if you had 5 cocktails, 9 bottles of water, 3 coffee and 2 cokes still worth it.
@@michaeldegaetano4497 Michael, i'm not really a drinker. 🤣😂😂😂🤣😂 I don't drink soda and coffee is rare.
@@rosalynnecole23 then I wouldnt get the package lol
15 drink limit is only alcoholic limit.
For $60 a day we get gratuities wifi and specialty coffee and deserts plus drinks on Princess! That is stupid expensive! Princess is 15 drink maximum too.
Yeah Plus Package! Not a 15 drinks a day person, but I enjoy the other amenities that come with it.
15 drinks is when the drinks package cuts out. You can still buy more drinks. Witnessed my SIL go way over 15. Not a pretty picture.
@@DBMIAMI. We don't have a waterslide. We are safe
The plus package is great value compared to Carnival, but Carnival is great value compared to Royal, whose package is substantially more expensive and the cost is even higher on their newer ships and popular cruise times because of their dynamic pricing policy
@@greggm6614 I'm too old to get ripped off 🤣
Another great video Jay! The robe is chef's kiss😊
A couple of questions: 1) can you bring alcohol that you purchased, from a duty free store on board, such as liquor or beer to your room? 2) What cruise lines provide better all inclusive drink packages?
I can only answer the first question. No, you can bring duty free liquor or beer to your room. They deliver it to your room the night before disembarkation.
You could however sneak on a small bottle at your own risk.
Found a good hack to this on some ships. If there is a late night pizza joint on the boat they usually have beers and seltzer behind the counter. Just ask for them and ask to not open them and they will. I just stored them in my fridge in my room so I always took full advantage of the 15 drink limit
Ive seen another youtuber do the 15 drink challenge over the course of a few hours. It was crazy...
P and O out of Australia and NZ have the limit as well. I think for the same reasons as Carnival - people getting on a cheap cruise just to party for a week and down as much booze as possible. Which was causing issues for the line.
On our last cruise, my wife and her family definitely took the 15 drink limit as a challenge. I think a few of them hit that limit multiple times over that 6 or 7 days.
My first cruise was on Voyager Of The Seas in 2000 for my honeymoon. I spent $1200 on drinking for the 2 of us. We’ve been on 7 cruises all with Royal, we take our first Carnival cruise in October out of New Orleans on Liberty of the seas. Love the videos you do and good luck on your new TA endeavor.
I only hit the 15 drink limit once, and that was when I was sharing drinks with my wife (I ordered drinks for her a few times). And you are 100% correct, they should not set a limit. It comes off as a "challenge accepted" situation for way too many folks. I have seen more super drunk folks on Carnival than on any other cruise lines.
JosephDickerson...the reason that Carnival has a 15 drink limit is because of rule breakers like yourself that share your package.
I went on Carnival Freedom for NYE with a group of 20. I don’t do the drink package but a few in our group were trying to get to 15 drinks to “ring a bell” at the bar!! That is Carnival really contributing to the problem of overdrinking.
I agree with you. People definitely look at it as a challenge.
I'm in complete agreement with you. Putting a # on it makes people drink more, not less.
Yay! Dancing and Drinking Dave appeared today!
There are three types of cruisers
The ones who start with Disney
The ones who start with carnival
The ones who are retired
The best and my favorite video that you put out was when you were dancing at a club. My God you are so talented! I have watched it over and over and can't get enough. As per the drink package on Carnival and their 15 drink maximum I don't get all of these drinkers. I have only cruised one time and it was on Celebrity Reflection and I didn't see anyone hammered. In 2 weeks I will be on the Celebrity Apex for a family reunion. Maybe you are right about the 15 drinks per day being a challenge. Celebrity has no limits on how many drinks you can have per day and like I said, I never saw anyone inebriated. Love you Justin from your biggest fan living in Delray Beach.
I've only ever 15 once, and it wasn't a planned event. I do agree however that the 'challenge accepted' mentality is prevalent onboard Carnival ships. Great vlog.
Not only did I enjoy beating the system, I now know which drinks to order that come with large pours. Specialty cocktails/ drinks like old fashioned or my Carnival favorite Jupina Amour come with 2 oz pours and that counts as 1 drink. This would compare to an order of a morning screwdriver where you would only get 1 oz shot.
HAL which skews older has a 15 drink limit for its drink package -- and that even includes NA drinks.
Carnival's drink package is stupidly expensive for the casual drinker, but then the cocktails are also more expensive than most other cruise lines as well. ($32 for two mudslides!!) After gratuities, it comes closer to $70/day and that includes port days, so about $500 for the week. Or $1000 for two of you, which is crazy expensive if one person doesn't drink at all. An upcoming 15-day cruise would bring the tab for a couple with only one drinker to $2124!! The upshot is, as you mentioned, that booze gets smuggled onboard. -- Rum runners work great BTW. Carnival loses out on all alcohol revenue plus loses the ability to monitor alcohol consumption when drinks are served up the the cabin rather than the bar. My favorite bar on the Panorama was "The Cove" so named for the cove balcony we stayed in.
Bu contrast, Norwegian pretty much always includes the drink package with their ongoing "Free At Sea" promos for which you just pay the gratuity (About $152 per person per week) and no posted limits. Which even if there's two in a cabin but only one drinker, the total cost is still less than just one drink package on Carnival. My rum runners stay at home when sailing on NCL. I'm sure alcohol-related incidents also occur on Norwegian on occasion, but nowhere near the extent as they happen on Carnival.
I’m an alcohol smuggler lol 😅 but what’s a rum runner??
On NCL part of the drink package cost is already factored into the price of your cruise and then you pay the greats on top. If you think otherwise, you're delusional.
I agree with you. I was on vista in November and was looking at my daily intake of drinks trying to make the famous 15 which we did a few days mostly on sea days. On other lines we just have fun and weary about the drinks. We always get the drink package so we don’t have worry about a bill at the end plus for coffee and bottled water.
I bought the drink package on my very first cruise in May I personally must say I truly loved the 15 limited. There was only two days or two nights that I actually got anywhere close to the 15 drink limit, one was on my birthday when I celebrated my birthday and I believe the day before my birthday. I love the fact that I can drink tea try the coffees and all those other things that come with the drink package. No nickel and dimeing I was able to eat drink and be merry😊
They could also do a tiered package. If the $60 per day is a maximum of 15 drinks, they could add a max 10 drink per day package and a max 5 drink package. I would never pay $60 a day for a drink package, but I would think about a $30 a day package with a max of 5 drinks.
I agree I had cheers package one time I hit the 15 drinks tried to purchase with money a 16 and 17 drink for me and a girl in club and was denied. Most embarrassing moment of my life 😂
Idk if others have mentioned this but Princess, which I believe is owned by Carnival Cruises, also has a 15 drink limit.
Drink package prices force me into a life of crime…as a bootlegger.
A parallel example when I lived in the dorm my freshman year there was a curfew of 2am. I squeaked in a few minutes before curfew. The next year no curfew came in hours before (think 9 or 10).
They need a mid level drinks package for the adults. That would be coffee, tea, bottled water, soda, mocktails, and milkshakes. I'm torn on buying or not buying a drinks package for a drink (if i even have one), I don't drink soda, I do drink tea and water. My daughter wants coffee and milkshakes, so we are on the fence of me buying the drinks package so we don't have to pay out of pocket for those things.
I 100% agree with you J, people want to get everything they can for their money, cut the 15 drink max off!!! I have been cruising for quite a few years and Carnival is my go to line!!
Timely video for me. I just joined a Facebook group named something like Cruises for Solos and Ship Mates. They are a hosting a cruise during Halloween on the Celebration. Once I find a cabin mate thru their message board I am planning on finding someone that doesn't need that stupid drink package. I'll just buy a few beers here and there.
Carnival isn't the only one. Princess, P&O, Holland America, and Cunard also have this limit. Yes, they are all owned by Carnival Corp. I expect AIDA and Costa (also owned by Carnival) to have this limit eventually if they haven't done it already. (They do have other limits already.)
IMO, the reason for this limit is that it's around 1 drink per hour, and if you drink that much spread out like that, your system has time to clear the effects of alcohol to diminish so you never get *that* drunk. Of course, some people will suck down their 15 drinks in a short period but most won't as they don't want to run out halfway through the day. ;)
I hit my 15 drink limit and never had the slightest buzz on that day. I think the last 5 drinks were Hennesy XO's, straight.
Same here its hard to get a buzz when you get 1ounce of booze and15oz of soda
Cheers package is the best thing you can get. You definitely get your moneys worth. Just know how much you can drink. Me and my lady just got off the elation going to the Bahamas 02/26/24 and had a wonderful time with the cheers package
We normally get the drink package. We've never gotten close to 15. We mix it up by getting specialty coffee, alcoholic drinks, water, soda, and juices to make it worth us paying for the drink package. On average, we would need to pay extra for water, specialty coffee, etc, on other cruise lines like NCL. People need to start realizing that normally, they would have to pay for all the other non-alcoholic drinks so they can appreciate a drink package that includes everything, not just alcohol.
My first 4 cruises where on Princess and then I did one on Royal Caribbean and I have now also done 10 Carnival and 3 NCL. I purchase the drink package on all my cruises and on Carnival on the 10 cruises that I have done only twice have I had 15 drinks and then was told that couldn't get another. I have seen passengers who are drunk and have had too much to drink on every cruise that I have been on.
You got a problem hitting 15
Agreed. I've seen drunk people on every cruise line
I've cruised with Carnival several times and I do not get the drink package. I typically order from the fun shop to have a bottle of Jameson delivered to my stateroom for morning and afternoon coffee on the balcony along with a reposado tequila to accommodate any night caps. If I drink on the ship I stick to double bourbons, neat. I generally spend about the same as the drink package and it is a lot more convenient for enjoying quiet reflection while watching the waves roll by.
Carnival isn’t the only line that limits to 15 drinks. Princess does it too.
I ran into a lady who was stone faced before noon in her drink limit for the day 😒. I don’t drink alot and only spent about $150 on drinks for the hubby & I on our cruise.
NCLhas a 15 drink limit as well FYI
Agreed! Carnival's drink package options are horrible & over-priced smh
Carnival does a fun martini flight on embarkation day BUT, since implementing the limit of 15, they won't pour it if you have the drink package. They won't even let you pay money for it. On the Celebration, my mom had to resort to bartering with the bartender for her martini charm, typically given with the flight. Because of the day 1 rule, we can get the flight in Galveston, but it has to be made with whatever gross booze they're forced to buy/pour in Texas.
You are absolutely spot on
1:32 some cruise lines will make not only everyone who is in that room but everyone who is CROSSREFERENCED with that room buy a drink package if one buys it.
1st cruise was on Carnival. DIdn't purchase a drink package cause we aren't big drinkers. At the muster drill we were behind a couple who overshared that their bar bill is going to way higher than the cost of the cruise! Actually kind of scary.
I dunno man, I've seen more expensive drink packages than Carnival's. It's worth it, to us. We spend most of our time at The Alchemy Bar. It's still a lot of money and we don't get it every cruise, but we love it.
😵😵
Is Alchemy included in the drink package????
@@KennieMarshall it is indeed. Any bar on she ship, plus the coffee bars, drinks in the main dining room, etc, are included
Very true of you know what you’re really getting.
One day, early in my cruising adventures, I decided to see if I could drink 15 drinks in one day. Not only did I not reach the 15th drink but the next day was not much fun. That said it's pretty easy to down enough to make it worthwhile though.
27 drinks is my max per day. The secret is managing yourself. I do not drink much when not on a ship. On sea days 18 to 20 is normal for me.
I am taking a Carnival cruise on the 4th of July and a Princess in November. The Princess Premier package seems like 1000% a better deal.
We get the drink package, being aware that we can drink only what our bodies can tolerate daily. It's not about how many you can consume in day, but the experience in trying new items and drinking a little more if celebrating an event. You also have to consider the specialty coffees, which my hubby and I consume more than the alcohol.
I don't drink soda and only choose to drink a couple of alcoholic drinks a day. I do like the specialty coffees, bottled water, etc. There really isn't a package that makes sense for me, so I hate being forced to buy Chears because I'm over 21 (way over lol) and cruising with someone who wants to purchase the package.
You know those people who just pile food on their plates at buffet to the point they will empty out the serving pans and clean out the dessert bars? Some people still feel that "they need to get their money's worth" with an "all you can eat" or in this case, "all you can drink". And some people genuinely have drinking problems, and if they go on vacation, they don't leave that problem behind. On the other hand, I can see how a 15 drink limit, especially on longer cruises, might not really be enough. For example, one Bloody Mary or Mimosa for breakfast, one Margarita with lunch, a single beer by the pool side, and a glass of wine at dinner. Some people like a nightcap as well. For some people that would still be plenty of booze, but I can still see how 15 drinks can go pretty fast even if you aren't just banging down drink after drink at one go. I think for the cruise line, the drink limit is more due to avoiding possible liability rather cost, because of course they get would get sued because someone on board had an alcohol related incident on the ship. Plus knowing some people, if there is no limit to the drinks they get, there may be more issues with people sneaking drinks to minors for nefarious reasons. Then again, I've had non-alcoholic drink packages for specialty drinks (not Carnival) that had a 15 drink limit--so maybe they are being cheap. On the other hand, things like soda, juice, regular coffee and such are going to be part of your free meals in the main dining room or buffet.
I cannot even imagine drinking 15 drinks a day. Especially when 3 days of a 7 day cruise, I am off the ship. I know some people can (and do). However, just ask for your drinks to be made a in a larger glass (yes, they will do it) and carry on. I'd be much happier with a 7 drink package! haha
It's called finding 15 to many. That said there have only been couple of times I have hit 15 drinks on Carnival and I am a Platinum with them. I think other Carnival Corp lines also limit their drink packages to 15 but how they handle it is much different. Holland America starts charging you for drinks after 15 like you mentioned at the end of the video. I found out that after a crazy night on a cruise last December.
Love your content, but you may have a small error in your information on Texas and drink packages. We just completed a cruise on Royal, out of Galvesto, last week. Upon boarding, I asked a bartender about the drink package limitations. He told me that my drink package worked immediately, but they have a different menu. The alcohol purchased immediately upon boarding is purchased through a state of Texas supplier. Once outside of territorial waters, the shift back to the normal menu. I had a couple of drinks at sail away, and a couple of glasses of wine at dinner, but had no extra charges billed to my account. From my experience, the drink package worked the first day, there were just some limitations on the brands of alcohol you could get. Thanks again for all the great info.
I don’t cruise on Carnival. However I have been commenting for years that on Royal Caribbean everyone in the cabin is not required to purchase the alcohol package. At least 15 past cruises of proof.
Jay why can’t you get the drink package for the first day out of Texas and New York??? International water is 12 miles?? Sounds illegal
So I am very new at cruising, but I'm also a money guy. So when it came to the Carnival Cheers package, I was able to break it down pretty fast and simple. To me, the package is worth every penny. Because not only does it include your 15 alcohol drinks it also includes other drinks such as specialty coffees, energy drinks, pop, bottle water, gatorade and yes milkshakes which those drinks can add up very fast and very expensive. But I get what you're saying. The 15 drink minimum does seem like a challenge to a lot of people I was like that on my first cruise. And then I realized, wait a minute, i'm getting my money's worth plus with in 6 to 7 drinks on top everything else I am drinking that day. But the one thing I do wish Carnival would is let us use our drinking package at Half Moon key. Because let me tell you I have seen people overdo it on island and then end up going back on the ship and getting super wasted. I think that would prevent that from happening
Genius and you're right!
Seeing the amount of problems that are common on cruise ships that people get into just makes me realize im a very competent cruiser, even as a rookie cruiser.
this is the move y’all take your dad on your cruise and have him gamble w his money in the casino then when he gets the good fun play deals go on another cruise w him and he gets free drinks for himself and a guest
I was recently on an NCL cruise and there was a woman with her husband who got on the elevator with me. It was around 11am. Oh my goodness she was very intoxicated. Like barely able to walk and slurring her words and laughing intoxicated.
My first cruise was on Carnival with a big group of friends. I know Saul solo and mostly on NCL.
Not a frequent Carnival cruiser. There's another reason I choose Royal!
I enjoy the no limits on Royal and that it works on their island.
I don't drink alcohol and never have bought the bubbles package. I don't know what the limit is on that, but since there are so many FREE beverages, and I drink mostly water on the ship, I have no need for it.
I dumped Carnival years ago, but have enjoyed the drink package on other lines. How do I determine id I'm buying the package, I look at the ship's itinerary. If there are a lot if port days, where I'll be off the ship, the odds are it might not be a good deal. On the other hand sea days, I will probably have a few more and at the cost of drinks, the package can be a money saver.
Carnival isn’t the only cruise line that has drunk people on it. I just got off a royal Caribbean ship and saw it all over the place. Royal Caribbean has a no drink limit and it didn’t stop the people I saw.
I used to be (by the book) an alcoholic. I was more of a binge style drinker, but damn, even in my worst days I don't think I ever had 15 in one day.
Last year on Carnival, we wanted to buy the drink package but would have been required for both of us in the room to each purchase a package. There was no way we would be able to drink that much. One package is enough for two to share. We would have probably had more drinks had we had the drink package. I believe the package was for $300 or $320 per person. It definitely was limited and covered the cheapest alcohols. If you were a vodka person, Tito's was a premium vodka that wouldn't be included. We were glad we passed on the packages. There were some people who ran through their packages and made additional purchases on top of their packages.
