Backhoe a deeper hole for swimming.... put in a small dam on the output of the swimming hole, then put a water turbine on that output to provide a little power for lights and other things. Run the turbine into a small bank of LiPO4 batteries and you could even run an inverter for a short time with 120VAC power. Good luck with the property!
That hole will fill up with sand, plus DEP would not like the wetlands disturbed, but move 50’ away and dig a hole and pump water into it, use a pond liner so it don’t cloud up real bad
It's really hard to tell that your wife is excited. You will love living in the country. There's nothing better than the stars at night and the only sound is the bugs. Congratulations.
The 7 thumbs down were those who didn't get the winning bid..... Great for you two! This is awesome! I am probably speaking for many to tell you I humbled that you chose to share your joy with us.
And 'Letsdig18' had got the skill and kit to do driveway, pad and pond the creek a bit. With 'Out of the Woods' and 'Bus Grease Monkey' plus many more to advise along the way! 👍😄😎🇬🇧
Congratulations Adam and Abby! My wife and I bought 10 acres of Texas 3 years ago...it is such a blessing to be in the country! My neighbor has 30 head of longhorns...it's so peaceful to watch the cows and calves...and the stars at night look like metalflake paint. We've built a big shop and are planning on build an apartment in it to live in while we build our house...I'm sure you will love your new place..it's tons of work but the rewards will be reaped far into the future!
Adam and Abby welcome to the neighborhood. We're just up the street and have had to clear our lot down by the creeks. Come by sometime and we can give you some ideas and several referrals. We're the house with the solar panels on your way down the street. Hopefully you'll love this neighborhood as much as we do.
I’m so excited for you guys! My wife and I just purchased 10 acres on a creek too. We know the excitement! I can’t wait to see the Abom Grillin and Chillin Pad down by the creek!
Congratulations Adam and Abby! My wife and I are so happy for you! I can't wait for the video series to follow on this property. My wife likes "Abom Compound", but I like "Abom Acres". Still trying to understand why you engaged in leasing new shop space in addition to shop space on the 10 acres. Please further clarify in a future video update. Again, very excited for you both!
Get a decent size skid steer, you will thank me. The wide variety of attachments covers just about anything you will want or need to do. Including brushcutters, backhoes, forks, etc. Trust me, once you have one, you'll never be without one.
Wonderful! And the advice to you has already started! Let me join in. As a Forest Ranger, that looks quite burnable to me. May I suggest you get a local Ranger to advise you on fire prevention and defense measures you can take. The skid steer muncher is a good start.
I was born and raised and still live in the Wisconsin countryside and that is were I will stay. No way could I stand the city or even a town. Most people don't realize the serenity and the smell of the woods and that's why I love bowhunting.
Thats going to have so much potential.... Great choice Adam!... you can make deeper pools in the creek...Dang there's a lot of work to do.... I'm just about excited as Abby is LOL... Cheers Blessings Eh!
Congratulations to you both. Your excitement is infectious and will patiently wait to see what comes next. No advice just a piece of wisdom learned along the way nothing ever happens in the time predicted double it and add 20%.
Those Turtles are actually Gopher Tortoises that love sandy habitats, they are a keystone species. Fantastic to have them thriving on your property. What a gift. Congratulations to both of you.
I can see a nice area cleared off near the creek with a rustic shelter set up, with a picnic table set up, a nice stone fire pit, bbq grill and Adirondack chairs set up
We put a trail camera in at our property and it was the best thing. We picked a spot with a lot of tracks and we get a ton of deer pictures and raccoons and stuff. It is a lot of fun.
Dude, I had a smile on my face from ear to ear seeing how excited you and Abby are! My wife is in the bathroom doing her hair and chimed in and said, “whoever you’re watching, they sound so sweet.” She’s not wrong! Y’all are awesome. Congratulations! Couldn’t have happened to better people. Cheers!
Congrats guys. Lots of fun work ahead. You might even be able to get building materials sponsored if you make a video series about it. I have followed the Essential Craftsman house build and also Matt Risinger building his own house. There’s a lot of awesome things you can do to make a new house very efficient, comfortable and nice looking these days.
Hi from the UK. All i can say to you is WOW. You have a fantastic journey ahead of you. I hope it all goes into video's for us to see it progress. The best of luck.
Congratulations to both of you guys! So glad to see you found a piece of land that you like. That stream is crystal clear! Good luck in your new adventure!
Awesome! One thing I'll say is that 10 acres sounds big until someone buys 10 or 20 right next to you and doesn't share your love of quiet. Do what you can to put your buildings as near to the middle of the property as possible. Good luck with everything!
I am really happy for both of you!! The hard work and the patience was worth it, I can't wait to see how it all turns out!! Thanks for sharing your adventures with us and take care!!
I don't know that I have ever seen two happier people. You have quite the adventure ahead of you both. It will be fun to watch your progress. (Just keep a close watch on those mean spiders).
Woohoo! So happy for you two! This is one of my dreams as well. To do exactly as you guys are. Congrats on the first milestone. Now if we could only get Andrew Camarata and his machines down there to prep the property.
Congrats on the property purchase, now the hard work starts. Where to put the house and the orientation, E, W, N, S, the route of the driveway, how lawn to have with rest natural. Have fun guys, it's a once in a lifetime experience. My biggest worry is that with the new shop space and this property and the maintenance on you existing place that you aren't over extending yourselves. You also have the responsibility of maintaining a free unobstructed flow of that creek to preclude flooding.
Looks awesome. Make sure you leave a bit of your property wild. Fallen trees and underbrush provide protection and food for the smaller animals. But i understand the need to clear up the undergrowth for your enjoyment and protection from fires etc. Good going guys, looking forward to seeing what you do with the place.
Good for you guys!! Now you need to get yourself a bandsaw mill and start selectively clearing some of those tall straight pines. That new shop could be a timber frame masterpiece ;-) Again, congrats and all the best!
Since it's Florida all I can think of is building a concrete home. Maybe even ICF (insulated concrete form) building. Termites can't eat concrete. You can make them where they don't look like concrete. Some hurricane proof homes even have concrete roofs I believe.
You don't cut it all down, you selectively clean out the good timbers so that the woods can continue to grow and be healthy. There's nothing wrong with that.
Wetlands are protected by both federal and state laws, and in some cases, county and municipal agencies. They must remain in their natural condition. Section 404 of the Clean Water Act regulates wetlands and requires that a Section 404 permit be obtained before conducting any activity that would discharge, dredge, or fill materials into U.S. waters. Under Florida law, exemptions for agricultural and silvicultural activities can be found in Chapter 373 and Chapter 403 of the Florida Statutes. You must get permission and obtain applicable permits from your local regulating agency if you plan to dredge, fill, or cut any vegetation in a wetland.

Congrats on your purchase. I would like to suggest chatting to some locals and maybe even the council about clearing etc. eg, fallen logs are habitat to some creatures, maybe even the turtles. And beware of any trees that may fall on your house to be. An arborist could be worth while getting in to check on the tall ones. Anyhow, enjoy.

Very happy for you, and hopefully the cherry on the top, a bunch of kids running around the beautiful home that you will build there. Your grandpa and father should be very proud for you.
Hey, I just want to post a BIG CONGRATULATIONS!!!! on your achievement buying a piece of your own paradise!!! LOVE THAT BEING FREE (to succeed or fail) Nice success man.
Eastern box turtles have strict territories and never choose floody land. Golden garden spiders are very docile and harmless to people. Wow, your creek is awesome.
