    Over the past 5 or 6 years, I've been independantly studying Medieval Europe's military and civilian cultures. RUclips has a lot to offer with so many fantastic creators with vast amounts of knowledge and study!
    I am so incredibly happy to have found this channel (and also surprised that shorts did something useful, lol)! I have had a hard time finding really good medieval harness fighting content. You can technically describe the techniques all you want, but actually seeing them used with considerable force is beyond valuable!
    How much power are you using while you fight? I would assume it can't be full force with pole weapons, given that that'd be very dangerous. Is 70-80% an accurate estimate? And I also assume that all of the close combat would be full force besides the stabs with the rondels.
    Thank you for your incredible content, this stuff is absolute gold!

    • @dequitem
      @dequitem  Год назад +2

      In the 14th and 15th century is the spear, poleaxe, longsword, warhammer and dagger the most effective close combat weapons. They are effective. There is no better option in closed combat. Point balance fire arm action is mor a thing in the 16th and 17th century.

    • @REDWOLF5652
      @REDWOLF5652 11 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, they are effective. The point with fighting in armor is not to stab into the armor. You try to get stabs in the gaps (which you need to have in order to move) such as the inside of the elbow, under the armpit, in the crotch, and behind the knees
      --however i would call those stabs a secondary objective. Primarily fighring between 2 armored opponents ends up in wrestling and joint manipulation and control. If you have 2 points of contact on an opponent it is much easier to control them. Gaining control of someone's joint will give you the joint above; control someone's wrist to control their elbow--their elbow to their shoulder. Having control of somebody's arm, you can move them around into disadvantageous positions and throw them.
      Having a long stick, either sharpened or blunt is like having a giant lever with which to control a whole person. Obviously, the opponent is trained and is going to try and counter your attempts at obtaining a good position to lock their limbs or throw them.
      Having your bollock dagger or rondel is a fantastic secondary weapon that is long, very firm, and generally primarily for stabbing rather than slashing or cutting. These are great at additional manipulation or getting into those less armored joints and stabbing

    • @dequitem
      @dequitem  11 месяцев назад +3

      @@REDWOLF5652 great comment, but if both opponents wanna kill each other you end less in wrestling (around 50 %). In historical fights you often try to take the other arrested and money for them, then wrestling will be 100 % in every fight.
