After watching your video I got a solar panel for my Eufy Cam2 overlooking my front door. This one gets A LOT of traffic, its in HKSV and the battery was draining like crazy. The panel has been great! No issues. Only I notice the battery level gets a little low when traffic increases and it’s not possible for the camera to charge as fast. Just this Saturday it recorded over 100 events!! (That was nuts) But a couple of sunny days and low traffic solve that problem. When we had very hot and sunny days the battery fluctuated between 93-98% Lately I’ve had a rather cloudy and rainy week so my battery is ‘down’ to 86%. I’ve been using the panel for 2 1/2 months now and I’m very happy with my purchase.
My second camera is inside the house overlooking my garden and I don’t mind taking it down for a recharge every 3 months. I used the magnetic mount on that one

    Great overview/review Shane.
I’m one of the guys who’s been pretty critical of any battery-powered camera systems. I just don’t see the hassle of recharging as being something I’d be OK with…
This seems like a pretty decent alternative. Totally worth the cost.
    - While your install looks good…not sure how much I’d like having all the extra stuff hanging on the house tho. It’s just not a solution that I’d describe as ‘elegant’. But. That’s just my $0.02.
    😀
I think I’ll stick with my PoE cams for now.
Anyway. Good stuff as always. Thanks for the video.

I have two Eufy 2c cams installed and I have the same solar panel installed on each. One gets full sun from dawn to dusk and stays at 99-100%. The other is similar to the one you showed and does not get a lot of direct sun. It stays between 89-99% depending on weather and season.

This is really nice. Hope to see you revisit this at the 1 year mark. There’s a corner of my house that I’ve been wanting to place a camera but been putting it off due to no power outlets there. To my understanding, it stays around 81% to preserve battery health. As we know, the more lithium ion/polymer battery cycles, and higher it cycles, the faster it deteriorates. When we pick the solar charging mode, it restricts max charging levels, to ensure it doesn't charge beyond a safe threshold.

Over the long-term, I’m curious if the dust build-up might lower the solar panel’s effectiveness. But the solar panel solution is easier than running electric lines to the location. I’d probably watch 15 RUclips videos on the subject, buy all the supplies, install it all, and still end up with my house on fire at 2 AM.

    • @ShaneCreates

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  3 года назад +1

Thanks Joe! I think it really depends on each use case. Unless you have a solar panel attached, the battery life will largely depend on traffic, motion zones, HomeKit, the working mode, etc. So it depends on what is most important to you to “get the best out of them.” You may prefer to optimize for battery life, or you may prefer to optimize to get the best surveillance. I prefer “optimal surveillance” usually, but that can drain the battery faster, especially in high traffic areas.

I’m concerned that my dog and local possums would set it off all over the place!? 2: The Eufy HomeBase 3 has just been released and I know you can use it with previous Gen cameras, but, will it still support HomeKit Secure video?

I’m waiting your review of Eufy 2K indoor (which I already have) and a comparison about the Eufy 2K pan&tilt vs the new Aqara G3. I can’t decide the best one to be my panning indoor camera between these 2 babies. :)
Already have 2 G2H over my house, but I want a central camera with pan feature to be in my living room. What do you think? Go for Eufy, which is cheaper, or get the new G3 and have all cameras from Aqara, which I can expand the zigbee range around the house??

I have a pair of E40 with solar panel. worked fine for almost 3 months. Now one of the cameras doesn't charge from the solar panel. Also starting to drop connection. 2nd pair of Euphy's I've had problems with. I don't have a lot of faith in Eufy anymore. I've switched my E40's to see if its the panel of the camera. It's only been about an hour, but the troubled camera has not moved from 93%. The other "good" camera remains at 100%. I think it's the camera and not the panel. It should have moved up from 93% by now. Another return coming up.

Great video, I’m looking to expand my outdoor and indoor camera lineup and have been looking at this camera and the 2C Pro. Currently outside facing I have the Logitech Circle 2 using the super handy window mount. Wish they still made this camera. As well as the Ring Doorbell Pro and floodlight camera. Indoors I have a Circle View in my garage and an Ecobee Smart Camera, love this one a lot. I am looking to mount something on some of the very large birch trees in my backyard for additional coverage. This seems to be a very good option when paired with the Solar Panel. What’s your thoughts on weather resistance? We go from plus 40 degrees to -40 degrees and when it rains it’s torrential. Indoors I have been looking at the Aqara, more ecobee’s, Eufy 2K with pan and tilt and more Logitech. I like the field of view on the Logitech and ecobee. Anything you think should be thought of?
Oh and I bought the ring devices expecting HomeKit support lol, whoops.

These outdoor Eufy cameras do very well against the elements. It doesn't get too cold here, but I've seen many photos of them covered in snow and ice and have heard good things regarding that. Gear info. Have you had any snow in SC since installing the panel? I would imagine even if you did the panel wouldn’t be covered long enough to allow the battery to run down. Sounds like I’m answering my own question, sorry about that…😂

Haha good question, no worries! And no, we haven’t had any snow. Even if we do, I highly doubt it would ever be enough to be a problem. At least here it wouldn’t.

In the U.K. this has proved to be a terrible unworkable option. Binned it after 5 weeks.

You get robbed buying these things through resellers. Buy them direct unless you want to prop up amazon's profit margins. There ALL made in China, all of them. I paid less than £30 for a similar single cam setup including delivery.
