- We got stuck in our own country because of the COVID-19 border restrictions. In response, Tourism Holdings Limited offered all of their camper vans to hire at a cut rate to help kick start the domestic tourism industry. So we got a 6 berth Britz.
We took the fam on an epic two week tour of the lower half of New Zealand's South Island. If you're a kiwi, planning to do this in your own country, this might give you some ideas. If you're a tourist looking to travel NZ by camper van after our borders open again, this will helpful for you too. AND if you have kids and you want to travel, this is the thing to watch!
This was our itinerary:
Starting from Christchurch:
Day 1: Top 10 Holiday Park Oamaru
Day 2: Freedom camping at Warrington Domain, just north of Dunedin
Day 3: Curio Bay Camping Ground
Day 4: Possum Lodge, Manapouri
Day 5: Milford Sound Lodge
Day 6: Henry Creek DOC Campsite, Lake Te Anau
Day 7+8: With family in Kelvin Heights, Queenstown.
Day 9: Glendhu Bay Motor Camp, Lake Wanaka
Day 10: Lake Paringa Campsite
Day 11: Rainforest Retreat, Franz Josef Glacier Village
Day 12: McMillan Road Freedom Camping Area, Punakaiki
Day 13: Iveagh Bay Campground, Lake Brunner
Day 14: Kowai Domain Camping ground, Springfield
Back to Christchurch.
Jeepers ...fantastic guys! . Hope your van rental company has bought your wonderfull video for promotional purposes ...isnt NZ just so beautifull !! 😍
Thanks. How good would it be to get sponsored for this sort of stuff?! We loved out time
You’re absolutely right. We’ve been blown away both by the beauty of your country and the high standards of facilities and campgrounds all over.
Great info, great vid 👍👍👍
Thanks! We're massive fans of you guys so it means a lot. It was around that time that we started watching your channel and we've since taken the plunge and got a caravan ourselves.
Have a great time in NZ. Shout out if you want any other pointers. Cannot recommend Mt Hutt enough for skiing/snowboarding if that's on the menu.
Did two weeks in February 6,000 km reminded me what is great about where I grew up. The South Island
Really informative and inspiring video, thank you.
luv the family mate, appreciate the share 😊
smiling the whole time while watching your vid. your kids are soo adorable, enjoying every place you've been to.
Thanks. We really had a great time.
Very beautifully Picturised and really
Enjoyed feel to visit soon, very beautiful
Country.
Great video - nice to see New Zealand families enjoying their own backyard.
Thank you so much for sharing this video. The scenery is so amazing. You had a great family. Really looking forward to travel in New Zealand. And of course by caravan. Such an awesome experience. Thanks again
Great Video! Brings back memories of our 2017 trip. We’re hoping to do a repeat in 2022/23 In a 4x4 with a tent this time! Best wishes from Ireland.
Yeah, it’s an awesome trip! In a 4x4 with a rooftop tent would open up a lot of other possibilities. Did you see my videos on the Molesworth/Rainbow Stations loop? That would be ideal for a 4x4.
@@AdventureRoadNZ It was wanting to do the Rainbow Road that got us thinking about a 4x4. Your Molesworth video just made me wish we could go this year. Hopefully things will be back to normal in 18 months time. The last trip was 2 months but we’re hoping to do 4 this time. The campervan was awesome but there were so many places we couldn’t go. Your videos are giving us lots of ideas for places to visit. Cheers, Neil
Ive been there end of 2019..with my elder son and daughter.. Very Great memories.. Hope got a chance to go north island next time.... 😍
Superbly shot. Beautifully done. Thanks greatly.
The most beautiful family
This looked like a fabulous trip for your whanau, thanks for sharing.
great video man. We did exactly the same thing as you, as soon as those deals come up, we booked a camper brought cheap flights from Rotorua to Christchurch and spent the whole winter holidays travelling around the lower part of the south Island, only as south as Te Anau, though. Such a beautiful country!
Awesome. It was great to see kiwis on the tourist trail. Glad you had a good time too.
Beautiful video ❤️
That was lovely. Thank you for sharing
Great stuff sir, thankyou for taking the time to share that with us.
Loved your vlog. We're planning on doing a similar motorhome tour of the south island come February 2022, from Wellington. Sooo looking forward to it :)
10:37 I love this. what a beautiful country
What a glorious trip you did! It was obviously meant to be! Your whanau is adorable! Thanks for sharing. And yes you're very blessed to live in the most beautiful country on this planet! (Had a 3 week taster trip in 2019.Left a huge part of my heart there.saving my pennies to go again).🤗
I hope you continue to take us along withy he journey :)
Amazing! Great stuff.
Amazing, hoping you & your family stay healthy & happy!
Awesome video, the kids are adorable! I'm heading there start of July and it will be my first time driving a campervan, was parking and/or finding spots to camp a hassle at all? Definitely don't mind paid spots
Thanks! Parking was only a problem in Queenstown/Arrowtown. Everywhere else was fine. We booked our first night just for peace of mind, but other than that, just turned up. There were plenty of free or paid places everywhere.
Congratulations on the journey. Cheers. (Parabéns pela jornada. Felicidades)
This video was so wholesome!! Loved it :-))
THANKS YOU
Been to WA and south island of NZ. Seriously NZ scenery is way much more beautiful than WA.
Amazing video, we are doing the exact same trip in October. If you don't mind me asking, what camera did you use to film this?
Thanks. We mostly used an iPhone 11 and a little bit of an iPhone 8.
Did you go to the lolly factory in Omaru
No. We’ll have to put that on the list for next time.
What was that old advertising catch-phrase? "Don't leave home until you have see the country"? New Zealand has the best scenery in the world so why go elsewhere?
100% Plenty to see in our own backyard!
My latest 2006,from akl to queenstown n back
Wicked trip are you able to post the place names of the places you stayed please
Yep! Itinerary is in the description
thanks for sharing is this your family vlog?
Sure is. Just documenting our adventures as they happen.
what boat company did you use? great vid :)
Hey, thanks. The cruise company was Mitre Peak Cruises. We were happy with them.
How much was the bond
I can't remember for sure, but $200 comes to mind. You also have to pay road user charges at the end and they deduct that from your bond.
