I just received this in the mail yesterday and I am blown away. What a solid beast of a knife. It is truly a night and day difference between the aluminum and the zytel. I just gave my zytel away to a family member.
I agree. I do not mean to disrespect the zytel model as it is a great knife, no question. However the aluminum model just really has it all together. Enjoy!
Dang it Bob, your review was just too good. I'm the guy from Alaska who bought that ti-lite this morning. Looking forward to getting it in my hot little hand...Greg
Congratulations on your purchase! The tracking information has been e-mailed to you. You made an excellent choice. This knife is solid and impressive. It's a joy to own. Thanks for your business!
I think one drawback with long handled fighting knives is you give your opponent a lot of safe real estate for you opponent to grasp on to and disarm you. This is why for defensive use, I prefer medium to large fixed blades with handles that aren't that much longer than my hands.
Owning this exact knife makes me want the smaller version too. (Like I got the large Espada THEN the medium.) This review convinced me to get the Ti-Lite. There really is no negative to this knife. Locks like a safe. It is built like a tank. Slippery? That is silly. So what, plan on "fighting/stabbing stuff"? Get real. It's just a Bad-Ass knife to own and enjoy. Take it to work, clean your fingernails with it while asking the Boss for a raise. Just buy it. GREAT review.
***** Oh...and it WILL "flick" open pretty easily with a few practice tries. But I wouldn't do it repeatedly. Even though it is well built, I don't think that is really "good" for such a long blades pivot/lock up. That's a lot of inertia stopping suddenly. But some people beat their knives, whatever. I baby mine.
Bead Blasting has a tendency to rust and you can see some rust spots on this new blade. the Zytel with the Satin finish is prettier and more rust resistant. BB
Well one drawback to the aluminum version when compared to the zytel version is the bead blast finish, which will make the blade more susceptible to corrosion.
XFS540 It’s bead blasted because of the way AUS-8A heat treated, is less prone to rust than harder composite steels like CPM-S35VN like in this model, which keeps its edge longer than softer steels ie the zytel Japanese Aus-8A steel version. I have both versions and the CPM-S35vn steel is much better blade steel than the AUS-8A and stays wicked sharp.
the technical specs are not the same as the zytel, it says so right on the site. The liners and lock system are made of a different steel. The aluminium one is a bit tougher all around. I just ordered this knife after much deliberation. The one thing that bugs me is, the snag/wave feature is backwords. WHen the knife is closed, shouldn't the hook be facing the other direction to really catch your pants instead of the curves side? Oh well I guess i'll have to see what it is like when I get mine.
Yup, Cold Steel "F" up !! It should be just like you said in reverse, the bolster hook could rip open you hand, the way it is now, I can't believe they dropped the ball on this.....SMH !
if you snap it open regularly it will wear down the liner lock and you will get blade play. my advice would be to "half snap" it open, the use the thumb stud to fully engage it.
Under that black coating is a MIRROR finish waiting to be released. A strong paint remover GEL soaking will get that black junk off, let it soak 1-2 hours. In the mean time, Buff the soft aluminum scales with 600 grit sandpaper up to 6 stages - 3,000 automotive grit. It WILL BE a mirror finish, an entirely BETTER beautiful knife. While you got it 100% broken down, grind the thumb hole bigger. IT TOO will polish smooth factory like as if made that way (correctly). Oh, the blade? that dull gray finish will polish to near mirror also. Start with 2,000 grit (wet). Finish with Semi-Chrome™ metal polish. All this is about a 4 hour commitment. Knife improvement? 100%. Enjoy.
Did you have to oil the knife before it deployed the smoothly? I bought the 6" aluminum, and the 4" G10 models. The 6" aluminum model has an "XHP" blade, notthe AUS 8 steel. The clips are tight as a wedge, and do not deploy worth a crap. My Spyderco Civilian, and S110V Military open lightning fast, and their clips are perfect out of the box. Cold Steel customer service is telling me to place a nickel under the clip...this is my last time purchasing a CS folder. I own dozens...been buying since the 80s. Spyderco, and Benchmade folders deploying easily, and are pocket ready right out of the box.
It bothers me that Cold Steel puts the much more attractive satin finish on the cheaper Zytel model. One other thing... Ti-Lite was the name given to this line of knives because they used to have titanium handles and liners. I guess this made the knives too expensive for most consumers.
I am very curious and confused about the price for this great Cold Steel 6" Ti-Lite knife. I am highlighting (with Zytel, not aluminum handle!, just Zytel handle).Amazon is selling this 6" monster knife with Zytel handle, for around $ 50! On other websites, the price for this knife could be doubled! The price for this excellent knife is so confusing! I am afraid of buying knock offs , but on the other hand, I don't want to overpay for the same original knife! What's the price for original Cold Steel 6" Ti-Lite knife with Zytel handle? Manufacturer price, surly is the highest one. The Amazons the lowest on. Almost by half! What is going on, thinking, that Amazon probably won't sell copy cats ☝⁉️ Why the price for this knife is so different ⁉️
I can tell you are not from North America as "Aluminum" is the Canadian and American spelling. Your version is used elsewhere. My guess is you are from UK. Judging from your comment, it seems a good thing they have such strict knife laws over there...
Honestly I don't understand why carrying a knife like this for self defense which you could argue is designed for that purpose, is illegal but yet get a permit and you can carry a handgun on you just fine, which can do much greater damage. Either one should be legal to carry in my opinion but if you do something stupid or criminal with either one that's your fault and you deserve jail. To further prove my point acting or doing something stupid with a handgun is more dangerous than with a knife.

+Knives Town whats the diffrens besides the weight?

I have this knife in 4 inch and absolutely love it!

Jeez I can't waith for mine to arrive!
I have both and this one is worth the extra.
Got the number! Thanks for the great communication & fast shipping.
I have never been a fan of the Hold Out series. I would definitely go for this one first.
so true! wish I had seen this before I bought the hold out 1. waste of money
Update: I went ahead and bought a Hold Out 1 serrated, just for the collector's value :-)

Hello, nice video, was wondering if the Ti-Lite 6 is spring assisted opening, since it looks super fast when you open it. Thanks.
It's not. Only flippers are allowed to be assisted opening in most states. If this was auto it would be considerd a switchblade.

Saving up for it!

+Max Savino its on the right side. it will make sense when you pocket open a few times.
+Joey Baggs yeah it works... but I still think it would have worked better if the hook caught your pants instead of just the jimping.
oh i see what you mean. yea i wonder too.

Great review. Does the knife have blade play issue ?
if you snap it open regularly it will wear down the liner lock and you will get blade play. my advice would be to "half snap" it open, the use the thumb stud to fully engage it.
im stuck between this knife in the 6 inch and the g-10 espada in the 5.5 inch blade. any suggestions?
you won't be disappointed with this one (and your wallet won't be either)
Very nice review
what are you talkin about AUS... the aluminum handle Ti-Lite 6 has a S35VN stell blade, not AUS

I like the zytel more cos it is so much more grippy than the aluminium model
Thanks for the review. Peace
Nice knife

Would you recommend the ti-lite for stabbing out my ear drums to prevent me from hearing your voice?

Nice knife :) Graet review :D but your voice is too "celan" if you know what i mean :p change your mic settings a little bit of
Unless you get searched by the police often then you should carry whatever you want.
I got this knife never been used perfect all over. Anyone want to buy it?.
pocket sword
You go straight to jail if you try and defend yourself with that big of a blade in most states, even if it is justified.
but I'm kind of disappointed because I'm a lefty..
