Hey Scotty what do you think about the Toyota 2022 GR86
Hey dose lucas transmission fix help with malfunction shift solenoid
Hey scot I thought you are Toyota guy
Is this Miata at quiet as your wife’s es 300?
Laura is coming for Scotty's little red sports car.
Mazda is the most underrated car manufacturer today.
It really is. They’re trying to move upscale and have beautiful design language now. Plus the 2022 Mazda 6 will be RWD. It’ll probably be the first brand new car I finally decide to buy.
Thankfully they got away from Ford......
Hopefully they fix the rust problems
@@Andrew_Thrift yes to this. They are fun cars though
I have a mechanic that said the same thing that the Mazda is underrated and he finds them to be very good cars
OK, I agree (with the miata). My customers bring them to me with issues like hood release cable and power window issues, after 240,000 miles! No engine issues, no electrical issues, just little bits of junk break after 30 years. They love em and so do I. Only new car I would buy
Scotty they are too small ,you won't fit in it
Some old bat hit and totaled my 1996 Miata in 2016... I drove it over 140k and it never had one mechanical failure. Even the factory battery lasted over 10 years. They are just great little cars.
Yea that's what usually breaks on mine. Engine is still running like a champ with 177k on it. Only really had mechanical issues so far.

Daz Butch whoever bought that Miata got ripped off. They forgot to install the back seats.

I love Scotty's videos.
Thanks Scotty for respectfully acknowledging Mazda as a company, lately. They are above their class in nearly every way, to say the least. They're not for everyone, but if you want the best bang for your buck in this class, buy a Mazda. Hands down
I think I'm gonna take a look at one
Mazda makes the best shade of red for their cars. Hands down🟥

MX-5 Miata recently got the most reliable new car award! Pretty incredible especially for a sports car.
I got a Polymetal Grey RF GT- best car I've ever owned, I used to have a 1990 and had 260K on it before I sold it- and it drove the same it did as I bought it.
If you want a new 2 seater that cost less than 50K, you won't be disappointed.
Took your advice. Got this same car in the video. Soul red RF. Best car I've ever owned.

Mazda finally getting the love!! People don't seem to realize the vast improvements since taking R&D in-house and breaking with Ford
As long as they come from Japan, they'll stand out. Here north of the border the Toyota s and Hondas are made locally
And now with Fiat's help.
Mazda breaking off from Ford was the best decision they ever made. I had a 99 626. Total garbage. Now i drive a 14 mazda3. 115k and still no CEL
@@celsovera91 Mazda would not have survived without Ford in the 80s or 90s. They did make one of the greatest little pickup trucks together: the B2000 as well as some other forgotten rebadged eco cars. Let's not forget Ford's involvement with the Miata.
@@zuranku ; FORD's involvement was a mixed bag, but it did keep Mazda alive, and it did result in some good products. Ford's involvement with the Miata resulted in the NC; another mixed bag -- not a bad car, but the least Miata of the Miatas. The NC was not the car that Mazda wanted to build, but they car that they had to build, given their finances at the time.
" I've been driving like a lunatic and still get 32mpg" lmao
🤣🤣🤣
Such a light car is so easy to pull around, getting bad gas mileage in it would be a chore 😂
Well, Scotty, I'm really pleased that you have this amazing car to enjoy ! We have had a 1999 MX5 since 2006, first owner had it maintained on time, changed the oil, looked after it. We only use it on dry sunny days, have a nice man who we have known a long time maintain it, he's protected the underside against rust and its rust free. Nothing has ever gone wrong with it. So I would say its the best car if you want some fun at a low cost. I'm sure you will have fun with yours, Hope you have some sunny days!
Uh Oh!!! Scotty is having a mid-life crisis, he’s recommending something other than Toyota or Lexus.
Mazda has been getting in bed with Toyota a lot recently and Toyota has bought 5% of the company, with Mazda buying back the same in yen (works out to be 0.25% of Toyota). Incidentally, this means Toyota is worth 20x more than Mazda.
😃😆🤣😂😄😃
BruceLeedar mmm mazda you dirty girl

Hands down the best car I've ever owned. Sure having 2 seats is not practical but you get used to. The trunk fits a ton of stuff, from a loaded cart at Costco to traveling luggage for 2 people
Same here. Bought my 99 for $6,000 with only 39,000 miles. Drove it for years. I've had some nice expensive cars and that's the only car that always put a smile on my face. So balanced. Just perfect. Someone totaled mine and it broke my heart.
Not really practical daily driver.
@@whitegoodman7465 I have been daily riding my bicycle for the past 3 years, even when it snows. So a 2 seat sports car is plenty practical for my situation mate
@@91lilfrozone23 You are 100% right. I've been riding a bike for the past 6 years. Lived in NYC and now live in Paris. There's absolutely no logical reason to own a car at the moment.
I used to have a 2002 Phoenix NB Miata that I absolutely loved. It was my daily driver for 6 years and apart from having to tell people that I can't take them with my car when my wife was with me, I never had an issue with the trunk space.
My father owns a car with the biggest trunk I've ever seen and at its fullest it's 3/4 empty. Sure, you won't be able to carry construction materials with a Miata, but this car wasn't built for that in the first place.
PS: You mentioned riding a bike in the snow. Older Miatas were not great in the snow (when the asphalt was completely covered in a layer of snow). But the truth is, I never used winter tyres on mine because when it snowed, I won't move it at all. The only times I drove in snow were when I got caught by it at uni/work and took the car home. To get to my house I needed to drive up a steep hill and the RWD and no winter tyres made it a terrifying experience every dingle time haha.
@@whitegoodman7465why not? If you don't have kids, why wouldn't a Miata be a practical car for just driving around and getting to work and from the store etc?
I have to admit that Scotty is right about the red color on this Miata. It looks great.

Just got my Mazda 3 2020 and in the picture I didn’t think I’d like the red...:then I saw it in person. Mazda makes functional art.
Color is great until someone scratches and dents it... good luck getting a body shop to match the color at a reasonable price if you do cosmetic repairs on your cars when people beat on them from carelessness :-/
athletejmv true, but that’s the price paid for good paint generally. Heck I got told that when I had to get repairs on my old Silverado with the red paint that is was “a hard to find red”. Touch ups estimate came back almost the same as the full truck being painted dark grey. So I kinda expect that treatment unfortunately
@@jerryknudsen7898 Stinks... I've had my best luck with arctic white and silver in terms of touchups. The red is beautiful... just make sure to stay away from people lol... honestly though, it is a tough color to match.
Stunning color, also on CX-5.
Sorry Mazda 3 is the only one that will take down their quality score cause they are made in Mexico and they already have quality control issues
I noticed this was posted 6 mos ago, I'm proud to have recommended this to my dad when he was shopping for his first sports car, a milestone of his life for sure.

“Kids get in the House the crazy man down the street is test driving a car again!”
Sure, I already loved Scotty for his great videos and personality, but now he gets even more credit from me for his excellent taste in music! Black Sabbath forever!
O-60mph is 5.7 for the 2019 “ND2” Club (2340lbs. / 181hp / 7500rpm) and 5.8 for the RF which is ~112 lbs heavier. So for a car that starts at ~ 30K it is far from “slow” but actually quite quick/ very close to the late Honda S2000 (2850lbs / 240hp/ 8200rpm) - The ND2 is a whopping 500 lbs. lighter. The S2000 will always hold a special place in my heart but Mazda produced a superior vehicle with the 2019 “ND2” which is easily the best MX-5 Miata to date. Mazda fixed the main issue with the ND1 being the decent but not great NA 2.0l engine, now the car is easily better than it has ever been.
When people ask is it fast, my reply is “in a straight line?”
This car is a beauty but any car handles and drives faster than this car. Also 0-60 times do not matter when you factor in that it foes the quarter mile in 14.5 seconds. There are 100s of better looking cars with better times and looks. Just my opinion 👍🏼
@@duszy2602 ANY car handles and drivers faster than this car? Yeah that makes ZERO sense but whatever you say....
Also, a 5.6sec 0-60MPH and 14.4 1/4 mile for ~30K is not "slow" no matter how you cut it, that's just a fact not an "opinion" based on delusions that simply do NOT represent reality.
Damn it, I just traded in my Celica for a New Corolla. Now, I will have to wait for another 26 years before I trade it in for a Miata.
Traveler X - Where did you trade it in? A ‘94 Celia is worth paying stealership prices for as it’ll be the last vehicle I’ll ever need to buy! 🐱

@Grabem Byda'poosi You've clearly never driven one. Miatas are hands down one of the funnest cars to drive legally on the road
@Grabem Byda'poosi : Come on over and try to take mine.
Hey Scotty just saw your Mazda review. You are right on with the Miata. It’s a fun car to drive it puts a smile on my face every time I drive mine. Its rock solid reliable and a great bang for the buck especially if you know how to drive a standard transmission. Mazda builds a great car. I watch your reviews, and really enjoy your sense of humor.
Still driving my 1993 Miata I bought brand new. It's still my daily driver with almost 200k miles on it now. Over that much time and mileage I have had very little go wrong, and am quite happy with the vehicle still.
I own a 2008 Miata MX-5 grand touring special edition soft top and I love it! It’s an awesome car!
This generation of Miata is incredible. Stunning to look at.
My only complaint is - holy cow the price jump. A fun little two-seater made sense at 20-25K, but at 33-35K and only 185 hp, it's a bit hard to justify.
This car has timeless and understated lines In a modern car world full of tacky and over the top “look at me” styling
@@mayssm you can get a new one for 25k, it's the sport trim version starts at 25k

Outstanding review and analysis, Scotty!! For several years, my son-in-law kept telling me that "A Miata is the most fun you can have with your clothes on!" but I didn't believe him. When the ND-2 came out, I did a ton of homework on all the MX-5 variants and finally gave in and took one for a test drive. It turns out my son-in-law was 100% CORRECT! It's not a rocket, but it is FAR more fun than many cars that are much faster and more powerful, especially when you take it out on some winding, twisting back roads! I have the exact same model in metallic gray in my garage now and it is INSANELY fun and never gets old!! I've let half a dozen people drive it and they all say the same thing "That is the most fun I've ever had driving a car!" and their smiles say it all. Scotty is 100% correct in his review of this car.
Brother I expected nothing less they been doing it for 31 sweet years everytime that top falls back all my problems and stressful days just blow away and they get replaced with instant gratification and many smiles. Miatas the car I will be driving till the day I die.
So what's so fun about it?
@@mrlafayette1964 The wind in your face, a car that makes you smile as soon as you drive it, a car that can make a boring commute to work entertaining, a car that has a very low cost of ownership, a car that rewards you with reliability, simplicity if you have to work on it or maintain it, saves gas, handles like a go kart, its light weight and for those that like to customize their car it has a huge aftermarket support a Stock Miata is like a white canvas always a work in progress for the young enthusiasts.
@@mrlafayette1964 It took me a while to understand that question myself, but I think the answer can be summed up by the following few points:
1. It's more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow. You can push this car to near it's limits virtually all the time without risk of being arrested for reckless endangerment. You can't use 20% of the speed and power of most supercars. You can use 80% of the speed and power of an MX-5 EVERY DAY! You have to work to drive it to near it's limits, but that is part of the experience is extremely fun and rewarding.
2. Real driver and machine harmony. Driving an MX-5 is a really visceral experience. You feel connected and in control of all aspects of the car - steering, acceleration, braking, shifting, etc. You can feel the road, you can feel the feedback in the steering wheel and pedals. Mazda calls it "Jinba Ittai" - rider and horse as one (or rider and horse in harmony).
3. Power to weight ratio is fantastic. There is no way an MX-5 can beat a Corvette, BMW or most other performance cars off the line, but take it up into the mountains or through the windy coastal roads of California or the Tail of The Dragon in Tennessee and NOTHING can keep up with it in the curves (except maybe an S2000). It's so light, it handles like a go-kart.
4. It is a GREAT training car if you truly want to learn to be a really competent driver. You're not likely to kill yourself and you can modify them into vicious track weapons that will smoke other sports cars costing 3-5x as much.
5. As Alberto said, the open top experience with the wind in your hair, knowing you're driving a super reliable, inexpensive, easy to repair, quality, SUPER FUN sports car that's sexy AF. Right "out of the box" it's a very capable road car. Mazda's engineers work super hard to keep the MX-5 as pure, light and as joy-filled a driving experience as you can have with today's cars.
6. You get all that and 30+ mpg.
@@maxcactus7 Wow, thanks for the great breakdown!
Always wanted a Miata, never had the chance to get one. I like the direction they have went though. Kept it reliable with improvements instead of trying to redesign it entirely and screw it up.

A few years ago I decided to get a used NC generation Miata with a powered hard top rather than the current ND generation Miata because it does not have the "fastback" rear part when the top is dropped. It has a better convertible feeling, in my opinion. Manual transmission too, of course. If Mazda brings back that look on the next generation, I would buy one in a heartbeat.
Also, I don't know about the ND, but the NC's roof is fiberglass, not metal. Which makes sense since that would save weight on the top and the mechanism that moves it.

I'm the original owner of a 2000 Mazda Protege with 97000 miles on it, my only complaint with Mazda is body corrosion, but it still runs well and is cheap to maintain and insure. Great to hear your advice and recommendations.
I own a 2003 Mazda Protege5 with 215,000 miles. She still runs great. Rust is the only problem i got.
@@adrianquezada5416 Seems to be Mazda's Achilles Heel. There's a pizza delivery place nearby that uses a dark green 2003 Protegé for deliveries, lots of body corrosion too.

Nice Scotty. Think I might trade my wife's 99 Miata for this one. I bought it new for her in 99, and we've been reluctant to trade it in because it's so good. She loves it, and as a wrench, I've loved it because it's pretty much maintenance free, except for a timing belt/idler/water pump set, a radiator and an alternator. Other than that, it's factory original (not counting consumables like fluids, tires and batteries}. Even has the original clutch. But now that I've seen this new one, I'm thinking about swapping the old girl off. Maybe even trade in the Miata too.
😂😊
I have one! Mine's a 2017 RF GT Launch Edition, so it's only 155hp, but I absolutely love it! I approve!!
Scotty driving like a lunatic?? I love it!! 😬😬
I own exactly the same car you are reviewing here in the UK. I've owned it for six months and importantly I agree with every word you said. I LOVE IT.
What about now? Any update? Planning to get a 2018-2022 Mx5 depending on if I see one I like for the price I like.
@@gilly2026 Thank you for asking Gilbert. It's running like a dream. It's the best mx5 I have ever owned...I've had every model. I would certainly recommend it, especially the 184 bhp model. It's like owning a supercar.
Thanks for the info
The red metallic that Mazda has been doing is by far the best looking paint I have ever seen on any production car. Looks good on any model.
You haven’t seen many cars then... Ferrari’s red paint is simply the best !
Grabem Byda'poosi who are you talking about? Lol
@@mattmayo3539 He's a troll.
Mazda has great engineers. My father had a first year 626 and the stick shift on that like butter. My later Mazda’s were fine but I remember how beautiful that 626 shifter was.
The best line in this video: "I've been driving like a lunatic"
My 2019 RF GT just turned 42 thousand miles @ 1 year old so I'm happy to hear they are reliable. I'm looking forward to the next 250k🤣tons of fun!
Man i feel like scotty really really loves that type of red...😂😂
2:30 Another great video. This is a dream car:just have to wait 10yrs to when I can afford it. This Miata has the best exterior and interior color combinations. Beautiful yes but also paired with the reliability not offered elsewhere. Gonna be interesting to see the local people who get their hands on the first ones. It's give-away Monday but I can't afford the 50% IRS winnings tax on this Mazda. Just need it one weekend to take top down, have picture taken and show everyone the new ride!
Scotty , you were already one of my favorites, but the “Black Sabbath - Changes” on your Bluetooth stream made me appreciate you even more. I agree with you on the red 2020 Mx-5 RF. I loved it so much I went and bought a brand new one. I figure it’ll be in my garage forever.
Nice. I finally bought an NC last year and it's good. I still think the original had the best overall feel and balance but I don't fit into them lol. Your model has the engine the NC should have had - revvy like the original! Great vid Scotty.
A quick note Scotty, the 3rd Gen (NC) had a hardtop (PRHT) option for the 2006 - 2014 models and due to better aero, increase the top speed of the PRHT models
You sure do say “I’m buying one” a lot.
Lol I would so like to buy a miata but I can't afford them lol
FRANK XOXO .......go for an older Miata Mx5 and you won’t be disappointed either. I’ve got a 2008 and it has to be the most fun car I’ve ever owned. And Scotty’s right they just don’t break down.
@@jimharrison4755 I have a 2010 PHT, and other than being kinda on the ugly side, I love the car. I really like this new one, the front end redesign is 200% better.
He has 60 cars lol
You sure do say “I’m buying one” a lot.
I once owned a beautiful 1994 Mazda 929, with a gorgeous powdered leather interior. I loved it! I obtained it in 2000, with 110,00 miles. Traded it in 2007, with 276,000 miles. Only parts changed were spark plug/ wires, starter, radiator, and one window regulator.
I discovered your videos. I like your presentations. What year is that red beauty. I'm been looking at them the last 2 years on vids but haven't driven one yet. I hear when I do, I'll get rid of my 78 British Triumph Spitfire you're talking about having stay on the road problems. LOL. Mine's not concours but she's nice and she starts and drives and a real looker. But I really like these new MX-5's. Thanks for the overview. Love your honest straightforward evaluations on cars. Stay healthy.
Got to agree with Scotty on this one. Iv'e owned 3 Mazda Miata's ( MX 5 where i'm from ) & yes they're fun, reliable cars to own but driving the car with two adults the power drops. Which is why i own a 2009 BMW 3.0 S Drive Z4. 6 Speed manual of course. Full convertible ( not a targa ) & hard top as well.
Mazda is definitely the most underrated. Their design philosophy and approach to building cars is second to none. They have tons of great information on their website that explains their story and perspective. If you like cars and all things automotive I highly encourage you to read more into them. Their Skyactiv tech is pretty cool too.
Wow, that is exactly my 2019 Miata. Most gorgeous car ever.
When would Mazda bring an RX9 or another sports car?
I’ll work two jobs day and night for rx 9
Idk anything about a new rx9 of any kind but I heard that they want to start making a car to go with the Miata in sports/“fun” cars the same way Toyota is. I read tho that they’re gonna reintroduce the wankle engine in a future Mazda SUV as a hybrid
Pretty sure Mazda has given up on rotary's
@@aawone I think it's Mazda Toyota now? Ford was previous generation. And yes Ford mechanics not willing to specialize for rotary's is the least problem. Unreliable, no competition in the engine type by other manufacturers, specialized parts and tool requirements, you name it.
@@Mr371312 True. It was certainly a novel design, but was probably too limited in usage and imperfect in operation to ever take off en masse.
Fun looking car! Thank You Scotty.
I will give it to Mazda, they do have the best red
Looks exactly like Ford's Ruby Red
@@2KCamaroZ28SS NO... Ford's "Ruby" Red is very pretty indeed (...Ford should have called it "Black Cherry Red,) but Mazda's red is by far and away, hands down, the purest, freshest and cleanest Red on the road today.
It's cool, but it's not Rosso Corse or Rosso Amaranto
Love your program Scotty. I've said this before but if there were more people like you on this planet we would have a hell of a lot less problems. You got crazy energy for your age which I admire.
