liquid fiver Yeah, the Live Action TV show is probably going to have each Book be 2 seasons, and so Season 1 will end with Aang finding out from Roku about Sozin’s comet and how he needs to defeat the Fire lord. So the final episode of the first season will end with Sokka and Katara comforting Aang after he figures out this destiny. So in order for the movies to work, I’d say that you’d need to have 2 movies per book, with maybe 3 for Book 2, since it’s the longest, if I remember that correctly.

@@justanotherartist5646 Greg had a line or two voicing Iroh here in book 2. The line I know for a fact is Greg Baldwin is "It is usually best to admit mistakes when they occur, and to seek to restore honor." and "But not this time, run". It is blatantly obvious compared to the line "What are you doing?" immediately after when the mugger threatens him. Mako's version of Iroh's voice is lighter and a bit more expressive. Greg's version is a bit more gravelly sounding and slightly more monotone. At least, for these two lines for sure. There's something else about Greg's rendition that's not easily describable. Greg does improve after this episode though, as he sounds closer to Mako in "The Avatar and the Fire Lord". To try to describe it, Greg's version of Iroh is a bit more "raspy" and slightly weaker/frail while simultaneously being slightly more monotone and gravelly sounding.
I was exactly like Rana when I saw this episode for the first time : Iroh's tale broke me but Momo's tale and the last scene where he's in Appa's footprint made me tear up 😭 Appa and Momo's bond is just... 😭
The lines in this episode "it is usually best to admit mistakes when they occur and to restore honor" and also "but, not this time, RUN" were done by Greg Baldwin. There's like 2 (I think) other lines in book 2 that were Greg but, most in season 2 were still Mako. I make videos about Avatar, if anyone is interested.
This series first started airing when i was 11 and I remember my brother and I always fixated on this show but never fully grasping the complexities and intricacy it had to offer. I was fortunate enough to have grown up with it in my early teens and it's so nice when you can fully grasp every attention to detail they've placed on this show as an adult. And tbh, I honestly did not figure out Uncle Iroh had a different voice actor for the rest of the series nor did I know about Mako's death not until I was a lot older. One of the BEST American series by far. And not just in animation.
agree, Recently heard a Podcast with the Zuckerman (the one who made the Soundtrack) and boy the amount of thought and care they put into the score and how to utilize it. Plus Zuckerman had pure talent considering Nickelodeons Limitations. And agree this show put the standard high for me when it comes to judging shows Live action as well. I mean it was just well rounded and thought out. Diversity, insane worldbuilding, the fight choreography (and not drawing them out too much) While on paper it is a simple Black and white story and especially as Kids are the main audience it would have been easy to stay there but they were like: NOPE fuck it. Kids can handle complexity in their stories and in essence it is an amazing family show Kids will enjoy it and their parents can watch it with them and actually be really engaged. Plus good god the messages in this show. From its spirituality and Balance, to even the character journeys who so many can actually relate to because they all are very human even the godlike avatar. And so far EVERY person. EVERY one I know just loved this show. And man I hope people would shift their attitude from Animation/Cartoons as a medium only for Kids... Its not it can do incredible things that simply arent possible in Liveaction or very very hard/expensive. As a Medium I would love to see it used for more mature content
Watched it as a child. Definitely didn't notice the change in voice, nor did I know about Mako's death cause I didn't know he was the voice behind Iroh. I always thought Mako was probably one of the creators of the series or something who died. :p RIP Mako. Made my childhood. Tales of Ba Sing Se is easily one of my favorite episodes. I remember I rewatched it so many times when season 3 was not out at that time. Great reaction guys. Can't wait for the next one.
Leaves from the vine Falling so slow Like fragile tiny shells Drifting in the foam Little soldier boy Come marching home Brave soldier boy Comes marching home ...
thats acutally not true. they have shown behind the scenes work where they clearly show how the show is already animated and they are doing the voice over while the scene is playing out; in fact what happend was the season was already animated and all was done, but he passed away so they slid this episode between the story to honor mako. Dunno how far they finished the season, but im pretty sure if he did in fact voice over all of season 2, then the animation was definitely finished as well. They planed this whole son thing into season 3 as far as i know, as sort of a flashback, but well then he passed away and they made it a side story of an episodes that wasnt acutally planned in the beginning.
Every animated show including Avatar does voice-work first. Then, actors will go back to match with the picture for only a few lines. So 99% of Iroh in season 2 is gonna be Mako's voice. And to sneak in a segment like that when Mako died in late July is impossible. The episode aired only two months later in September that same year, so it was obviously planned. If they sneaked it in, then they'd have to rewrite all the segments or kick another segment out to fit into the 23 minute content that an episode permits.
first of all they didnt have to kick out anything, because the episode wasnt even planned at all. Secondly: watch this video here: watch?v=NdcDMhpCqw4 i mean you can cleary see they are voicing the thing after it was animated.. the script and the animating is done first, then they voice over because to catch the emotion you have to see the animation, otherwise you cant voice over correctly (atleast thats what i think and looking at that video and other behind the scenes sources, im pretty sure they did it that way)
Isaac the Worship Warrior he wasn't yet. It's just that he still doesn't feel right or see himself being apart or on the same side as the earth kingdom.
No, Mai was his first love but not the reason he says it's complicated. He says that because of his background and he's not ready to settle in a foreign land with a "foreign" girl
Mako finished most of the lines of season 2 before he died. There's like 2 or 3 lines in book 2 that are not him. One in this episode is when he sees the kids playing earthbending soccer, "It is usually best to admit mistakes when they occur, and to restore honor" and also, "But not this time, RUN!". Those were Greg Baldwin, all others in this episode were Mako. I was able to tell the difference, although I did know about Mako dying even before all of season 2 aired (so maybe that's why?) but, I'm also pretty good at recognizing voices. I make videos about Avatar, if anyone is interested.
Not to sound dark but that episode when iroh was cheering up that sad kid, I remember watching that when I was six and I cried that day because my mom beat me out of anger, and seeing iroh cheer up that kid made me feel better, just like how my grandmother cheers me up all the time😭
There was a broken patch in the street that was all muddy with the rain. That's why there was only one Appa footprint. I did notice the change in Iroh's voice back in the day but it didn't really change my feelings about the character. I think I read about it on the internet first too, so I can't really say if I would have noticed the change on my own.
Can we talk about how Appa has been missing for like 5 episodes now :(.. The normies have mentioned it and I thought it was just going to be two episodes max
No mako voiced iroh in this episode. You can clearly tell when the new voice actor comes not that the voice is that different just that it is different. If you are questioning yourself is this the new voice actor or not it isn't. The change is very noticeable in season 3.
In original Animation VO, they do a first pass VO session that then goes to the animation studio. When the animation comes back, some of the lines need to be rerecorded to better fit the animation. Mako did all the first pass lines for season 2, but was unable to do the pickups for the last 7 episodes. So those episodes have both actors though only Mako was given VA credit for them.
The episode, "In honor of Mako", was for Mako Iwamatsu, the guy that originally voiced Iroh in Book 1 and 2. Greg Baldwin voiced Iroh in Book 3. I couldn't get through the song without crying. R.I.P. Mako!
There's a lot of focus on Iroh's tale, but I think the episode as a whole is really underappreciated. Once you figure out the theme linking all of the tales together it becomes really powerful and poignant. The theme being: The lives the main characters wish they could lead if the war didn't exist. Which is so brilliant I would have to write an entire essay to analyse all the nuanced layers.
I'm ready for the Ba Sing Se puns. I wonder if they'll be contender for Ba Sing Bae. Katara, Sokka, Zuko, Toph, and Iroh were goats as per usual. 10:33 This is a rhyme battle before rap battles were made. I love this episode. As always, I enjoyed my Ba Sing Stay.
2:24 I take notes about these Avatar reactions. Things that I look/think (and maybe comment) after I have seen the whole episode. :) 20:00 Those three bitches were like Cordelia in Buffy. 18:53 The sad part about the ending of the episode is, that we now knew that Appa was there/had been there, but Aang never got that information and hope to find Appa. Because Momo didn't understand that it was Appa's footprint. There was a clue to maybe find Appa, but they didn't know it. That was the deep and sad thing about the end.
One of my favorite episodes. Fortunately Mako was still able to do the majority of the lines for season 2. Baldwin only did a few lines then took on from season 3.
Dude Iroh’s story brought tears to my eyes. I remember watching it when I was younger and not quite understanding what happened (I’m 20 now) but still knowing it was emotional. Now as an adult I find myself sharing tears and knowing how he feels in that moment
Something I saw on another reaction video to this episode was that the picture of Iroh's son is a cartoon version of the military picture of Mako. Also, that Mako sang "Leaves from the Vine" when he knew he was about to die from cancer. After they finished recording it, everyone was crying and the actor for Zuko held onto Mako for about 10 minutes crying, because he was such an inspiration to him. Like he, in a way, was his Uncle. This episode has always been one of my favorites and when I watched it as a kid, I did not know there were two different actors for Iroh and I just figured Mako was Iroh's son's name because I forgot what his name was. Loved your reaction guys!
When I was little I noticed the voice change. I did not put it together that it was iroh even though I was noticing his voice was different. I was like 8 or 9 so I also did not understand too much of why iroh was crying so much and when it said in honor of mako I understood a little bit.
When I was a kid, I didn't notice Iroh's voice was different, because, well, it wasn't. It was shown in Dutch, because I'm from Belgium, so the voice actor remained the same. I had no idea this episode was a tribute until I heard about it on the Internet.
I really love your reactions, your discussion, your entire approach to this show and these videos bring me a lot of entertainment and joy and I always look forward to them. I am also a Patreon for your channel because I love it that much which is why it's an absolute shame you will be uploading only 1 episode per week for Book 3. I understand Avatar is your most popular show by far and you want to expand the timeline for it, but it's super sad.

13 years later, and I cried with Rana for Appa, and the whole team during Iroh’s story. I also watched this when it premiered and I had no idea that mako was the voice actor or that the actor had changed. In fact I now remember I thought Mako was Irohs son in the series and didn’t really pay much attention to it. But after wards was devastated. I don’t remember when I realized. Or when I saw it a second time.

Sokka's got barz!!!

When I was a kid I didn’t know they were honoring the voice actor, I just thought Iroh’s son’s name was Mako
Me too

Oh man you guys will love the next episode.
All next episodes are bomb. Appa's Lost Days, Lake Laogai, The Earth King, the Guru and then the finale. I'm so hyped
NK EA Love/Hate
Can't wait for the season finale, my favorite fight scenes in the whole series next to the series finale
Man I really love season 2. Maybe more than season 3
NK EA Episode 16 breaks my heart

I was exactly like Rana when I saw this episode for the first time : Iroh's tale broke me but Momo's tale and the last scene where he's in Appa's footprint made me tear up 😭 Appa and Momo's bond is just... 😭
I have watched the series like 8 times and still have never heard a difference, but maybe I am just not paying close enough attention to it.
It's not until book 3. Greg does a very good job but listen closely in book 3 when Iroh speaks.
I imagin thats why Iroh doesnt talk for alot of book 3
There are a couple of lines before Book 3, particularly in this episode in the scene with the earthbending soccer players.
The lines in this episode "it is usually best to admit mistakes when they occur and to restore honor" and also "but, not this time, RUN" were done by Greg Baldwin.
There's like 2 (I think) other lines in book 2 that were Greg but, most in season 2 were still Mako.
I make videos about Avatar, if anyone is interested.
really? I think it is but, I'm not sure.
Rana is legit trying not to cry.
Diversity, insane worldbuilding, the fight choreography (and not drawing them out too much)
While on paper it is a simple Black and white story and especially as Kids are the main audience it would have been easy to stay there but they were like: NOPE fuck it.
RIP Mako. Made my childhood.
Tales of Ba Sing Se is easily one of my favorite episodes. I remember I rewatched it so many times when season 3 was not out at that time.
Great reaction guys. Can't wait for the next one.
Nice to see them all enjoying their Ba Sing Day
HOly lmao
"cat panthers?"
"i think they're just panthers"
Pygmy Panthers
I love it when Reviewers and "Reactioners" - LOLOL - give shoutouts to each other! 3:15
So BIG UP Blindwave... love those guys too
MarHutchy could u pin the moment of the shotout
I have watched the show and never noticed any difference. Loved this episode and the Iroh story made me cry my eyes out.

Margaretha Falco I cried reading this
Yeah Mako voiced all of season 2. It was just season 3 when they replaced him.
he didnt voice this episode though, that episode was made in honor of mako
They voice everything before they're done animating the show. He did all his voice-over work, then died before they finished animating the episodes.
thats acutally not true. they have shown behind the scenes work where they clearly show how the show is already animated and they are doing the voice over while the scene is playing out; in fact what happend was the season was already animated and all was done, but he passed away so they slid this episode between the story to honor mako.
Secondly: watch this video here: watch?v=NdcDMhpCqw4
i mean you can cleary see they are voicing the thing after it was animated.. the script and the animating is done first, then they voice over because to catch the emotion you have to see the animation, otherwise you cant voice over correctly (atleast thats what i think and looking at that video and other behind the scenes sources, im pretty sure they did it that way)
You guys already know why he said it's complicated. It's because he's with Mai, Azula's friend.
Isaac the Worship Warrior he wasn't yet. It's just that he still doesn't feel right or see himself being apart or on the same side as the earth kingdom.
No its because he doesn't want a life outside of the fire nation yet
No, Mai was his first love but not the reason he says it's complicated. He says that because of his background and he's not ready to settle in a foreign land with a "foreign" girl
No it's because it doesn't feel right to be with someone who had been hurt so much by the fire nation
@@triton62674 The people in Ba Sing Se don't know much about the war and persecution under the fire nation. Especially the young ones
I am continually amazed that you make videos about Avatar, Mr. AvatarCritic.
When Iroh is singing “Leaves from the vine” Everyone looks as though they’re about to cry. Sad indeed!
*_In Honor Of Mako_*
Not to sound dark but that episode when iroh was cheering up that sad kid, I remember watching that when I was six and I cried that day because my mom beat me out of anger, and seeing iroh cheer up that kid made me feel better, just like how my grandmother cheers me up all the time😭
Man, that's sad...
@@raduandrei3068 It is
Sorry to hear
The tale of Iroh. Amazing. I’ve seen it so much times but I still cry.
Brahhhh how tf are y'all not crying this episode gets me all the time and I literally don't cry in real life
Can we talk about how Appa has been missing for like 5 episodes now :(.. The normies have mentioned it and I thought it was just going to be two episodes max
Unique first time seeing avatar?
unfortunaly after a long period of time aang found him dead the most sad episode on the show... no spoilers..... too late kk
Unique Ikr I first saw this show I only thought he'd be missing for like an episode but I got more and more depressed when he wasn't coming
Poxa Bibsfirra não brinca com o coração do cara desse jeito, coitado
+Poxa Bibsfirra OMG you savage...
One of the best episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender hands down...
No mako voiced iroh in this episode. You can clearly tell when the new voice actor comes not that the voice is that different just that it is different. If you are questioning yourself is this the new voice actor or not it isn't. The change is very noticeable in season 3.
soccernicholas6 the new voice actor did one scene in this, the one with the broken window
Jorgen Schroen okay yeah you are right about that one.
When Katara told Toph she was beautiful, she smiled because she knew katara wasn’t lying... little bit cute innit haha
TIME TO CRY
The episode, "In honor of Mako", was for Mako Iwamatsu, the guy that originally voiced Iroh in Book 1 and 2.
Greg Baldwin voiced Iroh in Book 3. I couldn't get through the song without crying. R.I.P. Mako!
Jin was cute, it's a shame she only had cameos after this
and of course the Iroh stuff hits you in the feels
dannybob42 Which cameos? I've never noticed!
dannybob42 She had cameos 0_0 ?!?
One cameo and a comic appearance, check the ATLA wiki for details
There's a lot of focus on Iroh's tale, but I think the episode as a whole is really underappreciated. Once you figure out the theme linking all of the tales together it becomes really powerful and poignant. The theme being: The lives the main characters wish they could lead if the war didn't exist. Which is so brilliant I would have to write an entire essay to analyse all the nuanced layers.
Leaves from the vine, falling so slow... 😭
Ricois Like fragile tiny shells drifting in the foam...
@@iancunn99
Brave soldier boy, comes marching home
You know the voice actor for Iroh was also the original actor for Aku
That explains why season 3 of ATLA took forever to premiere. I honestly thought that they canceled the show when I was a kid.
Iroh and Momo’s stories really get the tears going
"Oh no cat panthers!"
"I think that's just panthers"
Perfect commentary right here
Zuko and Jin would have been so much better than Zuko and Mai.
Yup, if Zutara can't happen, than at least them.
@@raduandrei3068 Tarang is good.
I liked Jin a lot
I’m here since avatars now trending cuz of Netflix and man I never realized how good this episode was until I watched on netflix
Welcome to the gaang 🙂
Same, I was very young when I first watched it. Now that I'm older I understand everything better. And it's a much better show now.
Best and saddest moments in Avatar:
10. All
9. Avatar
8. Scenes
7. Are
6. Amazing
5. In
4. Their
3. Own
2. Way
1. Leaves from the vine
Crying again, its so sad.
Hey Babe Rather straight actually... Crying isn't gay. But its a nice pun
20:00 Those three bitches were like Cordelia in Buffy.
I remember that my dad had to explain to me the whole thing about Mako because I didn't really fully understand the concept of death back then.
When I watched this when I was younger I had no idea Mako died, it honestly surprised me when I researched the voice actors years later.
Noooooooo! You guys took out Momo's dance performance! That's my favorite part :(
Obviously, those feline creatures were telling Momo they saw Appa in the city.
Iroh never saw his little soldier boy come marching home....
11:26
their reaction to sokka’s haiku makes me crack up every time lmaooo
Mako's voice actor doesn't change till season 3. The creators honored him in this episode because he passed away before this episode aired on tv
Lol that Louis CK reference at the beginning
Zuko's date was bold. She liked him and went after him, even kissed him on the first date... she's a keeper.
Pause at 15:24 for an encapsulation of the group dynamic.
Loved your reaction guys!
only 30 minutes after... i love you guys
Iroh's one still manages to make me tear up every time. Just...It's such an emotional scene.
their reaction to the next episode will break me :(
That poetry battle with sokka and that chicc was basically a rap battle
When I was little I noticed the voice change. I did not put it together that it was iroh even though I was noticing his voice was different. I was like 8 or 9 so I also did not understand too much of why iroh was crying so much and when it said in honor of mako I understood a little bit.
As a kid I never realized that one of the voice actors died until this episode, the only voice actor I ever recognized was Zuko's.
we like you guys interacting, too, and i feel like you guys haven't really forgotten anything. /someone/ always remembers and reminds the others
i will forever be thankful to mike and bryan for creating this wonderful world of avatar. its so beautiful.
I need friends like this
This has to be your best video yet. Thank you for keeping the whole song! And the editing is on point, it's as smooth as Ba Sing Suede.
How do they not have more subscribers
We noticed a change when we saw it back in the day, Mako's apprentice did a good job and took on the role of uncle Iroh and Aku from Samurai Jack
13:58I know girl, he's VERY handsome even with that scar 😍
Watching this during quatrain and feeling like I have friends again
Everyone grab a shirt man!!! Theyre awesome, I cant wait to get mine!!! You guys look ace! Great reaction as always! #StayAwesome #AllOfMyHomiesAreNormies

I had no idea the voice had changed either. I only noticed a difference when the white lotus was about to take ba sing se.
Wow, I can't wait to see your reaction for the next episode!
Im 29 and just realized Mako was the voice of Iroh and not his son's name. so every time before seeing this that i watch that scene im fucking balling. omg "brave little soldier boy... come :'( marching :'( hoooooooomeeee :'(:'(:'( "....
