So, to clarity. Mako is the original voice actor of Iroh. This was his final recording before he passed away, but since episodes aren't recorded in order, we still hear him for the rest of season 2

If ‘The Tale of Iroh’ and Momo at the end wasn’t sad enough. The girl at 11:09 was a Make-A-Wish kid who wanted to go to the studio and meet the cast and crew.
The creators wrote her character into Aang’s story. They even designed the character after her and had her do the voice.
Also, she beat her cancer and is alive and well.
Fun fact, everyone who watches the Tale of Iroh instantly becomes a master of tear-bending.
(Tearfully) Shut up. Don't joke about that.
You can watch the scene 100 times and you will always get emotional, when Iroh sings you feel his pain, regret and sadness.
And it work🙏 every sad scene I cry 🙏 just bc I cried to that scene
With the amount of times I watched this, I now have a 10th level blackbelt in tearbending.
I don't easily get emotional over sad scènes in movies or series but Iroh celebrating his passed away son's birthday and singing in tears for him hits instantly 😢
3:04 around here when katara calls toph pretty, toph can tell when someones lying as we saw in previous episodes, so she knew katara was telling the truth which makes this super cute
The Tale of Iroh was dedicated to Mako Iwamatsu who voiced Iroh and sadly passed away from esophageal cancer as Book 2 was airing and they were finishing production. He will still be the voice of Iroh through the rest of the season but during the scene with the kids playing with the ball you can hear the person who took over (Greg Baldwin, he also took over other voice acting roles Mako had done that were still ongoing), because they needed to rerecord that line. The picture of Lu Ten was based on a picture of Mako when he was young. Greg Baldwin has said that one fan request he will deny is to sing Leaves from the Vine because he feels that is Mako's song and will not take it from him.
The Tale of Aang is sadly the last appearance of the cabbage merchant in the series but will not be the last reference to him.

Toph and Katara: the mean girls can't go to the Dai Li because they would have to confront their assaulters and you'll understand later on why trying to lie with Toph around isn't smart.

I freaking love Zuko's story. Despite his awkwardness, he's got some game, and Jin is just the BEST. I really wish we got more of her; she's easily the best girl for Zuko.
As if the Leaves from the Vine scene wasn’t sad enough already, his voice actor was also crying while recording it because he was dying

To be fair, if there no war in ba sing se, zuko's crush had no reason to be afraid of a fire bender
I like Jin. She’s a good example of where we love the canon shipping but we also like the ship of her and Zuko. The creatures in Aang’s tale in case you want to know include tigerdillo, rabbaroo, elephant mandrill, gemsbok bull, hog monkey, dragonfly (literally), and the black cats are actually Pygmy pumas. I’d love to see what a poodle monkey looks like besides obvious imaginings

The next episode is a sad one as a warning now. It might break you, it’s already done to so many others
"Toph and Katara"was a sweet chapter.
"Tale of Iroh"makes me cry, not just because of the actors passing, but a powerful performance at the end. Thankfully, we followed with something light.
"Tale of Aang". A fun little piece and I loved all the cute animals. The turtle seal meandering behind makes me laugh every time, and the Cabbage Man just giving up.
"Tale of Sokka". Not the greatest when compared to all the rest, but still not bad.
"Tale of Zuko". It's good to see an episode with Zuko where he's not screwed over or hated at the end("Zuko Alone").
"Tale of Momo" Geez, thought it would be simple and fun, but I feel so attacked RN.
Momo's dance is so funny with the BG music when he's performing and it at least lets us know that Appa is in the city.
Congratulations, Zamber. You've felt the pain. This was your initiation into the fandom.
Okay but did you notice the puddle Momo was curled up in at the end was Appa's pawprint?

Ps: just a reminder Mako the original voice actor for Iroh passed for season 2. Luckily he was replaced by his student Greg Baldwin. He’s awesome!
if you're worried about not seeing Appa's story, don't worry, it wasn't forgotten. *His story is just so long, it will take up an entire episode.*

I think the tale of Aang was just to show off his bending skills. Just a demonstration of air, water and earth for construction, not for fighting.

some people point out that it almost didnt mattered if the girl Zuko went out with learned that hes from the fire nation since everyone in Ba Sing Se has been told that there is no war in Ba Sing Se

Lu Ten's portrait is actually Iroh's VA, Mako, from when he served in the US army.
To think they almost wanted to end the episode with Iroh's story.

I've heard (and accepted) a headcannon that Iroh purposely did Zuko's hair like that so she'd quickly rub his head, which would ease the tension faster. The man's not just a general of war but dating.

Four words that are guaranteed to make an Avatar fan cry. You see, Mako, Irohs voice actor, passed away from esophageal cancer sometime after this was recorded...but it wont be the last we hear him in this season.
I always liked Aangs tale because of the creative animal hybrid designs. Like, a rabbiroo is a rabbit that now has a tummy pocket, the dillolion looks really cool and probably would be an OP predator IRL, the list goes on! ...still weird the Earth King just has a bear.
To rub salt into the wound, the portrait of Lu Ten is based on Mako at a younger age and the inscription translates, "General Iroh, I will see you again when victory is obtained. Your loyal son, Lu Ten." It is speculated that this was the last correspondence between Iroh and his son before Lu Ten's death in the Siege of Ba Sing Se.
I just remembered the next episode is Appa's lost days.😢
