I saw this car win the 1971 Can-Am season opener at Mosport, east of Toronto. With Denny Hulme, of course. Still a beauty and that full-throated sound is music...
Wow...you cannot beat the sound of a Can Am big block Chevy. Firing up these cars is like waking an angry dragon from its sleep. Just so amazing! Denny Hulme’s M8F is my favorite racing car of any type, and any era! Thanks for posting!👍
What a beautiful car! And can you believe that is 1971 technology? It looks like it could have come from the current era, it is so swoopy looking! Thanks for posting! Man, and that big block V-8...you cant beat that sound! At startup it sounds like a cannon is being fired!
Watched a Can Am race at Michigan International Speedway (yes, it had a road course when first opened). When the cars passed me on the parade lap, the air and ground literally shook!!
Yes, the ground literally shook at the start of the Road America Can-Ams I attended as a little kid. No exaggeration in this story telling. There is a movie that shows the 1969 Michigan Can Am you attended, it involved an assassination/murder by sniper during the race. I wish I knew the name.
Or at least provided the alloys. Although Renyolds probably developed the cylinder bore treating that allowed these engines to run without steel or cast iron bores.

As beautiful a car as any that was ever built. And the SOUND of that ENGINE.
I built a model of this car when I was a kid because it looked so cool.
Back when race cars were race cars. Beautiful
Lord almighty! That McLaren is stunning!

The Shadow Can-Am cars look even more modern, especially the last versions.
An exquisite example of Group 7 shock and awe.
Nothing like this in any racing today the best
My fellow Scandinavians will probably recognize this beast from the animated film Bjergkøbing Grand Prix / Flåklypa Grand Prix
Ive watched this startup 50 times. V8 shotgun

oh how i miss that beautiful sound of the racing cars of yore. those of today do not sound the same, before they roared today they howl.
This is a perfect illustration of why vintage racing is so huge and growing. I can't entirely put my finger on "why"....but modern racing is boring.
If you think it's boring now, wait until everything switches to electric power...
Anyone know why they have different length induction trumpets on each bank of cylinders?
all earbud/headphone users, good luck
Excelent
494 cu.in Chevy make music all their own.
well do ya have a pulse?
Wait until he discovers the gas pedal.... unleashes the wrath.
Right a 494 aluminum big block chevy

In real life there would be alot of bass
Reynolds aluminium made some of the blocks

There is a Reynolds Aluminum print ad with Denny Hulme, his M8D and a Chevrolet Vega describing this technology.
takes guts! I know
howitzer firing,or starting a race car lol similar sound
is anyone, anyone at all,who is more than 30 years old anyway, going to bother to care when racers go electric?
