Here in the USA I order motion picture Ektachrome direct from Kodak which is identical to the photo version. Bulk rolling brings the per roll cost down to $7.00 USD, and developing at home costs another $3.00 USD per roll for a total cost of $10.00 USD per 36exp roll. Of course it's a lot of extra work but the results are worth it to me, and the cost is very manageable. A 400ft roll lasts me many months, and with so much of it it lets me really experiment and test out to get the best from it. I picked up a slide projector at a charity shop for a few dollars and seeing slides projected on a wall is true magic.
I can't get over the dominant blue cast when digitizing Ekatchrome. The slides themselves look amazing, but when transferred to my computer either from the lab or my DSLR the colors just seem so off despite my best efforts to adjust them in Lightroom. Here in the states E100 runs anywhere from $20-30/roll, plus development costs comes out to around $50/total (if you use a lab). Because of the discrepancies in color rendition I've struggled to find it's worth the cost when Ektar is half the price to both purchase and develop.
Yes it’s sad indeed! I used to but Kodachrome in the 80’s and 90’s maybe a few dollars a roll at the time had it developed right here in Honolulu was 4.50 a roll. But remember … the cost to print was prohibitively high… needed to shoot an inter negative and then print cibachrome or dye transfer which was crazy expensive…
Lol, my local (only) store sells Porta 400 in 35mm for $40 a roll. Probably why they have stock when it’s difficult to find anywhere else ;-) I have an expired roll of Velvia 50 in my fridge. Thinking of keeping it for my retirement… 😂
I had a roll of Ilford saved for my first freo walk, gave the camera to my daughter to take one, and she popped open the back of my camera and over exposed the whole thing…. I cried…
Why is everyone harken on and on about how expensive film is getting. Take annual inflation into it, it's more or less the same price as it was when I was shooting film in the 80's and 90's. If you can't wait 4 weeks on development get the E6 chemicals and do it yourself, it's no harder than C41 or B&W and its kina fun. Oh by the way👍video.
The film looks great! Nice Perth shots as well. Don't know about the price though, seems just existing in Australia makes the resellers force a premium on us. For me, I can't afford full frame digital cameras (I still use APS-C, and it's good enough), so shooting 35mm allows me to get the same effect while spreading the cost of full frame over time while being picky with my shots. If the price is going to become so high to shoot the best samples of film out there, it kind of makes it pointless. Just shooting, developing and scanning over 10 rolls of slide film would be enough to purchase a good second hand digital camera with a lens and accessories. It's why I want to move to motion picture film and bulk rolling when I have the time and space. Film should be accessible to everyone!

And that’s what a lot of peoples seem to do these day. They might have some in their fridge but only want to shoot it in rare or special occasions because it’s so $$$
I bought a pro pack of 120 E100 when it was re released years ago, shot 2 rolls once silver halide started doing E6 and loved the results on 6x7 BUT the price had me nursing the other rolls.. safe to say they they’re still in the fridge and I don’t think I’ll be buying any more of it. Amazing film but just too hard to justify the price. Which is kind of where Color neg is heading also. RIP

Super interesting. Film is great with the limited shots, mechanical tangible aspects, and even cost per shot to restrict and maybe encourage thoughtful shooting - that said, the E100 does look a lot like CCD or even a normal colour C41 with contrast and colour upped a bit in post. Worth the price? Hmmm… maybe not? Thanks for your sacrifice to make this haha
Yeah but even then, the developing cost. I mean you could get your own E6 chems and develop at home to attempt to save the most money, but I don’t think it’s worth the $$, can’t imagine what a 100ft bulk roll of the stuff costs 😂
see prices years ago! Kodachrome was $15 a roll with processing and mounting! Thats like $ 150+ today! Get real. Ektachrome not far behind. Personally slide film is never needed. easy way is C-41, color negative is better! way less expensive!

I just bought 4 rolls of unexpired Velvia 50 (10/2024) for like $31 USD a roll on eBay. That one hurt. But I bought it knowing it might be the last rolls of unexpired Velvia I buy for the rest of my life. It sucks seeing what Fuji is doing. Cutting out our film stocks or even worse, just replacing them with Kodak stocks like we’re dumb. So much history, gone. At least we still have Kodak for now I guess. Unfortunately, I’m not a fan of Ektachrome.

That's USD27, I got that film at USD20 + tax a while ago. That stuff is amazing - but too expensive to shoot on the street or at scale. And honestly, when shooting more dedicated, planned for individual photos well set up and planned - why shoot 135 then at all?! BTW, CCD sensors do not really have the color slide film look. Not in my book at least. I went with Foveon to get that punchy look - for me a Sigma DP2 Merrill and a Sigma DP0 Quattro do the trick. The Quattro gets very close.
@@shootswithcoops Try one if you get the chance. It's... a different experience. The cameras are awkward. The results are absolutely mind blowing if you take good care of the exposure. Nothing quite compares to it, the colors and sharpness are out of this world. My Sigma DP2 Merrill with its 15 million pixels outresolves my Canon 5DsR with its 50MP for a lot of subject matter with fine detail. It feels unreal.
Is it worth buying a Lambo? If you're rich - sure! Personally if I shot slide film I'd be homeless in about 2 months - not kidding. Slide sure is beautiful though.
Even for crazy ass landscapes I'd happily shoot merged bracketed and stitched panos on that d200 and get huge resolution and dynamic range. Sweet ccd colour without too many drawbacks. I mean sure it's less convenient than taking a single shot but more convenient than shooting slides still!
Ah - all my familiar haunts and my old stomping ground for 'street 'in the city. Murray St Mall, William St, Forest Chase. However, I don't go there too much any more. Far too many druggies, deros, junkies, beggars and scum-bags. Half of the businesses in Northbridge have had to shut down, because they sleep in their doorways, and when they come to work early morning, they have to face these aggressive thugs. Perth is a beautiful city, but I'm concerned it is going the way of Kensington in Philadelphia!

Honestly I wouldn’t use slide for portraits, I don’t like the over saturation that most slide film has for skin tones. I’d prefer to shoot portraits in black and white, something more timeless and emotional about a really well captured portrait on black and white film
At theses prices film will die out again. in the past I remember slide film had the developing and return of the slides in plastic holders being included in the price of the film. Personally I haven't gone back to using any film but stuck totally to digital and processing .

My aunt had a Pentax camera she took it to Australia when she went to see her friend. She did take one cool photo it was a double exposure by accident. I believe you can order motion film from Kodak directly, the Kodak E100D 5294 cost dramatically less than E100 of Kodak Alaris
And 5294 and E100 are basically the same film

Don’t take eBay prices as serious market prices, they are always inflated at least 15-20% I’ve found

Fuji Provia slide film looks way better than Ektachrome. E100 colors kinda suck, too cool. Provia is warmer and looks more pleasing.
Will you try a foveon sensor camera ? It's the closest thing to a slide film.

Well no, there's much cheaper ways to shoot film than this. I shoot 2 rolls per week and am certainly not rich.
Or you could just, you know, develop it yourself and have the results same day. I'm not rich either.

I’m not going to bother with it going forward. The results were good, but not that good to warrant the $$

I think Kodak should make some SLR cameras one manual and one with auto focus. All the cameras we have now are old and used. They won't last forever.

Ektachrome is nowhere near as good as the Fuji slide films, which don't really exist anymore.
