      Renee Brandenburg Ehh, he knew what he was doing was wrong as he went to lengths to cover up the crime. A person who truly thinks they’re doing the right thing due to mental incapacity wouldn’t clean up after, wear gloves, try to get rid of the murder weapon, etc.

    • @ReneeB5
      @ReneeB5 5 лет назад +33

      heartgirl79 I watched the documentary.. it was the girl that thought of the gloves and I think they both thought of cleaning up. I go back and forth on the life sentence thing. But I think it’s WAY off balance between what he got vs her. She CERTAINLY knew what she was doing. It’s hard to judge her too. Not sure I wouldn’t have done the same thing. The endless surgeries, medicines, hidden away from others etc... when we feel trapped, our animal instincts kicks in and we do whatever it takes to survive

    • @Dudebro123
      @Dudebro123 5 лет назад +11

      Renee Brandenburg Yeah, I think she knew what she was doing of course, but I’m unsure if she understood the full scale of her actions. Also, I think the mitigating factors in her case outweigh the mitigating factors in his. I think he knew full well what he was doing too and knew it was wrong. She may have came up with the gloves, but in the texts at one point, she said he may not need the gloves, but he insisted he would wear them, signaling to me, he knew the importance of using gloves to cover evidence. Also, he was pretty twisted, he came up with the idea to actual stab her mother and decided on the knife. He was no fool, or unwilling participant. I think he would have eventually killed someone, especially because he admitted to having fantasies and wanted to do so. It seems his parents also did not get him appropriate help or pay attention to warning signs, such as the time he was arrested for masturbating and watching porn in McDonald’s for 9 hours. It’s better that he’s locked up because I feel like since he’s killed before, he would do it again given the chance. Do I agree with life in prison? No, but I wouldn’t want him with the general public.

    • @Dudebro123
      @Dudebro123 5 лет назад +6

      Renee Brandenburg I just started watching! It’s good so far, but they definitely took some artistic license. I agree, his parents definitely could have and should have done more to help him cope and adjust. It’s a sad situation all around

    • @freewaybaby
      @freewaybaby 5 лет назад +6

      It was, as they say, “a perfect storm”. He shouldn’t have gotten life, BUT... it’s a scary thing to think of him back on the street, when he committed such a BRUTAL act. And to consider raping a dead body... all that added to his mental problem MAY have triggered a propensity of future repeats of the same thing, like the makings of a serial killer. Not saying for sure. Seems like with the “proper” ongoing observations and evaluations, it could be determined if he remained a threat, but with that sentence, they’re not likely to put in the effort to help him OR do ongoing evaluations. Sad all around! STILL though....not sorry that the world is without that evil bitch of a mother!

    I’ve come from watching the docuseries. Its brilliantly cast and beautifully put together. It definitely left me feeling awful for Gypsy, but I believe she’s serving her ten years and will know freedom, truly, for the first time then. Nick is a lost soul in all of this. My heart goes out to that kid. I feel he’s never had a fair shot, either, and the two of them together was just mental illness feeding mental illness. Its all so sad.

    • @freewaybaby
      @freewaybaby 5 лет назад +7

      I agree! I REALLY think he got the worst end of all of it! The only "kink" in all the mentality that assumes he was just doing it for Gypsy is that he wanted to rape the dead body! That's VERY scary and leaves a really odd and uncomfortable question as to how dangerous he would be if EVER out in public again. I think that he'll never get out definitely leaves Gypsy in a safer world! If he were to get out, I'm not sure what he'd do as far as that goes... my bet would be he'd (at LEAST) stalk her!

      EXCEPT Nick!!!! HE didn't fail her, but LOOK what it cost him!!! Not sure he should be released on the public, but he should have gone to some kind of mental institution... not that there are many choices in that respect, but what he got doesn't seem right! Unless Gypsy had died at DeeDee's hand, the courts wouldn't have given her the death penalty, but if she'd ever been caught, tried and PROVEN to have done what she did, she'd at least be in prison for a LONG time! Not long enough, in my opinion; I think she got what was coming to her....just way later than it should have been!

We wouldn't send a little girl to prison If she murdered her kidnapper to get free so why is she in prison for damn near the same thing? This woman basically tortured her daughter for her own personal illness and instead of the freedom and help she deserves this woman is now facing more time locked in a cage? Why??? Because she found a way to escape her abuser? This is awful I hope she is granted an amazing life when she gets out she truly has paid enough and deserves a real shot at life.

    Gypsy is not at all likely to ever be driven to want someone dead ever again. Nick? I have a strong hunch that if it wasn't this case, eventually he would have created his own path to a sexually motivated crime. He was far too enthusiastic in his role. Wytai, he had BDSM desires, something he would eventually expect from a date. So why would he be seeking connection with women on a Christian dating site?

In 2009 she was 18, there was a report by LE about CPS knowing there was nothing wrong with her that would prevent her from leaving...she could have walked out with the CPS or officer but said everything was fine...without her mother squeezing her hand.

      Having been in a similar (no way nearly as severe) situation with my own mother, I can understand being scared, I can understand the loyalty she must’ve felt towards dee dee, and I know first hand that there is little to nothing a child in an abusive situation can do.
      However, her doctors could have been alerted. And again, this did NOT have to end in murdering her mother. The kid get trapped, but with the amount of sneaking around she was doing she could have figured something else out. Even if that was to talk to a dr or a family friend.

I hope she gets early release with employement and general life skills support

    I always see comments saying that she shouldn’t be punished but I think she should. Yes her mom was a monster. No argument from me but she was involved in a murder. She plan and went through with it. She could have said something to any of the doctors she could have stood but in front of cameras. I know she grew up with her mom telling her she was sick and as a kid you always believe mother knows best but as she got older she knew some thing was wrong. She must have had a gut feeling and could have acted on it differently then murder.

    • @jenio4066
      @jenio4066 5 лет назад +20

      She already ran away, that didn’t work. Doctors figured out she was being poisoned with medications from her mother and still no one helped this girl. She was brainwashed her whole life to believe that her mom was doing it for her own good. How would you find help to leave? You wouldn’t even know how. This poor girl was tortured her whole life. Thank god she is now free. No I don’t think murder was the answer. She was lead to only one option.

      It is super easy to judge situations you have never been in. Doctors, cps and her dad all failed her. After seeing social workers come and go yet DO NOTHING to help hpw was she supposed to believe that saying anything to anyone would actually help her. She felt she had no way out. She thought that no one would help her and essentially she was exactly right. Murder is not the answer but she needs therapy, not prison. The judge should have sentenced her to time in a good psychiatric facility. Dee Dee was a worthless human being who tried to kill her step mom and possibly actually killed her own mother. Gypsy should never have gotten 10 years and I hope she is paroled asap.
      People always blame the victim and say "why didn't she leave" "she could have just left" etc etc. Those kind of statements are such a gross oversimplification of complicated issues. It is so easy to make those statements when you have no idea what it feels like to be a victim of abuse for years, at the hands of someone who says they love you. No. Freaking. Clue.

    • @DeadAccount099
      @DeadAccount099 5 лет назад +10

      She said in an interview that what she could have done differently was contact her dad and tell him what was really going on and she probably would have gotten to go live with him. I think she could have said something too but her mother WAS threatening her and she was most definitely scared for her life. I think her sentence was fair, she’ll still be young when she gets out and from what it looks like she’s happier and healthier in jail then she ever looked with her mother.

    As a “yankee” I’ve been conditioned to assume that every law enforcement officer with a southern accent that I hear is sporting a sub standard IQ score, which makes it difficult to take some of these people seriously. They’re the last demographic in modern times that’s acceptable to disparage in almost any company. I’m ashamed of my prejudicial behavior and I’m working on it. Of course I have similar thoughts when I hear a Wisconsin accent and I grew up in that state, yet I’m not working on correcting that prejudice at all. Go figure. 🤷🏼‍♂️
