@TheDivisionAddict Jason inspired blackened guitar riff yeah but he was never on mop😂 and I don’t think you know the difference between a guitar riff or solo
I saw them on this tour. I was the "chaperone" for my 17-year-old nephew. 😂😂😂 He bought the tickets, I drove. No opener, a fecking looooong show. Awesome.
The Black album is a turning point for metallica breaking into mainstream stardom. Many older fans before black album cried that metallica changed their sound and sold out but nowadays most can see it is awesome hard rock album with great songwriting, the best rock production ever, and Metallica's last great album
Dudes, you guys have a great format and a great friendship, makes me miss my good old days. Keep it up! Next? Justice for All for old Metallica or Hardwire for kick-ass new Metallica.
Love seeing how hyped yall got for this! I know both of you would LOVE their albums "Master of Puppets" and "...And Justice For All". IMO both of those albums were where Metallica peaked in their songwriting and instrument performance.
Me and my buddies drove downtown and bought this album at midnight the day of its release. We then drove to a beach with a two four and had the exact same reaction you guys had. Honestly you will have that same reaction with there first 5 albums. Good to know it still has that same reaction today on younger people still.
Wow, this was a fun reaction to stumble upon. I’m not old af but I’m born the year this came out. Raised on them and my fav band ever, always fun to see ppl experience them for the first time. And you guys had fun n chill banter, keep it up, very nice reaction vid format. Tallica for life
You guys are great. I grew up and was in HS in the 90's and never listened to this album fully. I'm loving your first listens and first reactions and I'm actually digging into some old stuff that I'd never given a chance before because of your reviews. Back in the day when we had to go to a store to get an actual tape or CD! My friends and I would make a point to go cd shopping. Then we'd listen to an album all the way through, just like this. Good stuff kiddos ;)
I love your reaction style, and I'm super excited to see your reactions to In Rainbows, In Utero, and The Wall. Some other albums I would love to see you react to include. Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream (1993) Have a Nice Life - Deathconsciousness (2008) Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven (2000) Slint - Spiderland (1991) MF DOOM & Mad Lib - Madvillany (2004) my bloody valentine - loveless (1991) Yes - Close to the Edge (1972) Converge - Jane Doe (2001) Danny Brown - Atrocity Exhibition (2016) Swans - Soundtracks For The Blind (1996) The Velvet Underground & Nico - Self Titled (1967) All of these are cult classic albums across a variety of genres, and they're all among my favorites. Some of them are bit more challenging and experimental, but I think they would all make for great reactions.
If y'all like the sludgier guitar sound that Kirk used on this album, he was partially inspired by Kim Thayil from Soundgarden. The same year as this album was Soundgarden's album "Badmotorfinger". That would be a great album to review.
When i was in high school playing basketball, we played this during our starting lineups were announced. Was epic as all get out. Talk about adrenaline before a game. But back then it wa snot used regularly like it is today. Matter of fact, no other facility i went to did that. At least in my region. I graduated in 2002 for reference.
For years, this was always my favorite album. Definitely it’s their best production work by far. Writing, I give a slight edge to AJFA and MoP. After hearing some of the various “And Justice for Jason” mixes on YT that do a better job of mixing in the bass, I give that one the nod. Even so, picking my favorite of these albums is like picking my favorite kid…I just can’t do it.
Fun reaction! This is a great album, but you definitely love it a lot more than I do. I listened to it a few weeks ago, and found out that metal isn't really my thing. There are no songs here I dislike, but I find it a bit too heavy and repetitive, and not really what I vibe with personally, so I've only liked about half of the songs on Spotify. Nothing Else Matters and The Unforgiven are 2 of my favorite songs, and I really like Enter Sandman too, but most of the rest of the album don't live up to those for me, maybe with the exception of My Friend of Misery! I appreciate this album a bit more now, but most of it isn't my taste, and that's OK. It's fantastic for what it's going for, with some great messages, and I'll come back to some of the songs, especially those softer ones! I recommend listening to Fleetwood Mac, specifically the album Rumours. It's soft-rock and very different from this, but it's perhaps my favorite album, and all of the songs are really great! The band has several amazing albums, but that's the most essential one, with their self-titled from 1975 and Tusk also being a couple of my favorites, in general too.
Looks like the music is bringing down the house... great catch brotha😁...badass in 1991__ Badass now... I say do RIDE THE LIGHTNING...Metallica FAN4LIFE🤘🏽😎
As a young man with relatively good musical ear '91 came in like a century storm Definitely good things prior to, and yet The big boys stepped up and delivered new levels
This is commercial Metallica and softer than their 80s albums. This is their 5th Album and the first Metallica Album I listened to. People in the comments have recomended Ride the Lightning next but Mater of Puppets is considered the greatest song and Album in metal history. MOP will blow your head off. You have not heard anything like it. Rust in Peace by Megadeth (masterpiece of thrash metal) and Reign in Blood by Slayer (one of the most intense albums ever) are a close 2nd and 3rd for greatest Metal Albums ever. Also do Toxicity by System of a Down (one of the best 00s metal albums) and Vulgar Display of Power by Pantera (one of the best 90s metal albums) You need to do a Trash Metal marathon. Master of Pupets (Metallica), Rust in Peace (Megadeth), Reign in Blood (Slayer), Among the Living (Anthrax) and Arise (Sepultura)
The purist Metallica fans actually didn’t like this album when it came out. They called it a commercial sellout. It was more musical and less hardcore metal compared to their first ten years of music. On the other hand, this album gave the band a whole new audience since they did music videos for most of the songs on the album. MTV actually played music videos back in the 80’s - early 90’s before it became a reality TV channel. I saw them in concert in the late 80’s. They had a wild show back then. About 2/3 though, the simulated the stage blowing up. They had a guy in a fire suit totally on fire running out from under the stage. The roadies put him out with CO2 extinguishers and everything went dark. About 2 minutes later a single light bulb was dropped down from the ceiling with an extension cord and the did the rest of the show acoustic. No one was sure if the fire was real or staged. I didn’t know till the next day when there was nothing in the newspaper about a fire at the concert.
"This is gonna be a legendary album" has me rolling lmao oh shoot and then ur light fell that's hilarious You guys should listen to 3D Country by Geese for some new rock music For some more Metalica, you've gotta try Master of Puppets. The title track blew up recently because of Stranger Things, but the whole album is spectacular. If you listen to it, you'll see The Black Album is like an ultra-refined version of a lot of the ideas they invented on Master of Puppets. The Black Album was made to be played in stadiums. Master of Puppets was made to be played in a small venue.
Just one opinion here. Let the whole record play. No skips. Let me explain. The ones we like the album have no problem listening to the whole song again. Especially the ones we like the most. And if by any chance someone that has never heard the album before shows up. The best thing for them will be to listen to the whole song along with you guys. Just my opinion
I was a huge Metallica fan. Especially their first 3 albums. Then I watched an Alice in Chains documentary a few years ago. In that documentary it showed Metallica doing a disgusting parody of Alice in Chains at a major live concert. Basically making fun of Layne Staley's drug addiction. As much as I love Metallica, I can't unsee they're mockery of Layne.
My friends and i became metallica fans when RTL was released..first saw them on the damage inc tour just before we lost cliff burton...when we first heard this album ....it was a case of..what fuck is this shit!
I was the kid that listened to Metallica while everyone else was listening to pop/rap music and I can assure you I thought you guys were all nerds lol🤣
Start with Kill Them All then follow the release order. When you get to this one, you will realize, it's your least favorite Metallica Album and this one is still a masterpiece.
Alcohol makes you seem and act like complete jackasses, other videos of yours I've seen had much more quality from you guys. Tone it down at least in your content..
What’s next for Metallica?
...And Justice for All
Either ride the lighting or master puppets would be a good follow up🤘🏼
ride the lightning
Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, And Justice for All
Tempo of the damned exodus
literally the best way to review ANY music, outside with a nice campfire and some drinks. well done gentlemen
besides the vaping
@chevelle8091 I grew up with a lot of family smoking heavily, so a single vape doesn't mean shit lol
The Metallica rabbit hole will blow your mind
Agree!
metallica rabbit hole is not too deep) from this album backwards
Black album and a few beers, sounds like a great time
Beers?
Every solo James writes are so perfect! Nothing else matters, first solo in MOP, to live is to die he has such good feel
and his solo in Orion.
His solo in Suicide and Redemption is badass
@TheDivisionAddict are you drunk?😂 every solo I mentioned was written by James
@TheDivisionAddict Jason inspired blackened guitar riff yeah but he was never on mop😂 and I don’t think you know the difference between a guitar riff or solo
This album is a must have for any self respecting metal head!! Great reactions!!
lol for real? Metalheads I know would be embarrassed to be caught listening to it. Metallica died in 1988.
@@CoboProdz still the same opinion? Get over it
This album helped me get through workouts when I was 14.
Literally listening to it as I type in the gym
I saw them on this tour. I was the "chaperone" for my 17-year-old nephew. 😂😂😂 He bought the tickets, I drove. No opener, a fecking looooong show. Awesome.
Best band ever….Do all Metallica’s albums in chronological order….you will be blown away by all the bangers 🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘😉
Metallica is barely even metal

This album made millions of people across the world want to pick up a guitar for the first time. That alone makes it legendary.

If youre enjoying this heavy 90s metal sound you should check out "Far Beyond Driven" by Pantera
