@@lindabaker4817 I may give you one small example. The show took place at an old airfield overgrown with grass. Around the time of the Panther was started, the field turned into a sea of mud. Because 1.5 million people jumped on it. I drank beer and stuck empty bottles into the ground with the neck down. When Metallica started, I was standing on a hard surface, with a girl on my shoulders, 50 meters from the stage.
I am 56, and I remember when Germany was divided east and west. When "Winds of Change" by the Scorpions came out and the Berlin wall fell, it was the same feeling. Like the world was coming together after WWII. Then Metallica went to Russia and it only escalated the feeling. I miss those days when we thought we were moving in a better direction.

I totally agree also!! Another good example is how our country including all Americans pulled together in the days that followed 9/11. You couldn't go down a residential street without seeing the American flag hanging everywhere. Unfortunately most dwell on our differences rather than all that we have in common. After 9/11 you could just feel it, the love and pride that we all felt for our country and our democracy. These days it is quite the opposite which is heartbreaking, also this makes us a weaker nation IMO. This concert was a gift to the Russian people from Gorbachev, a free all day concert that included five bands. I wonder how one would ever find their car after the show lol
I worked as a doorman for a friend's club in 1994 to 1996. The owner grew up with one of the band. It was the surprise of my life when Metallica performed in his 250 seat night club in Fairbanks, Alaska as a birthday gift for the club owner. Over a 3 year period when I worked there we had Quiet Riot, Blue Oyster Cult, Iron Maiden, Whitesnake, Motley Crew, Charlie Daniels, Confederate Railroad, and a dozen other big name bands of the era. He would sell tickets for 2 shows and the ticket prices were determined by taking the hotel, (which he owns), meals, and payment for the band and divide the cost by 250. The average ticket price was around $30 dollars. I have 2 signed guitars from shows there. One was signed by Bruce Dickinson, and the other one signed by the entire group Blue Oyster Cult.
I heard a formerly Soviet man say that before the Soviet Union fell that western music like this was forbidden. They very quietly listened to it via Voice of America in their teenage and similar bedrooms and made copies on old medical x-rays. If caught it would have gone very bad for them. So this pure joy in the audience was one of their first real tastes of freedom. I read that the bands did the concert for free. It was a singular amazing thing!

This concert happened before the Soviet Union collapsed , President Mikhail Gorbachev had been arrested. Boris Yeltsin was President of Russia he ensured officials would make it happen. He needed as much support as he could get as he was trying to stop the old guard taking over. Metallica were called in at short notice,they were on a European tour. A few months later the Soviet Union collapsed.

The Berlin Wall came down in 1989 this concert was in September 1991 the Soviet Union could have carried on, the old guard were trying to do that and arrested Gorbachev, President Boris Yeltsin stood in front of the Russian Whitehouse and personally convinced the tanks and troops to stay with him, about twenty people were killed but the troops agreed and gave loyalty to Yeltsin. If not the Soviet Union would have carried on. When you go to amazing bands you can FEEL it in your chest and I'm not just talking about the drums and base! I had so much emotions swell up I had tears in my eyes while feeling electric! I've seen Ozzy, Killswtich Engaged, Job for a Cowboy, Marylyn Mansion, In This Moment, Devil Driver, Hatebreed, Cannibal Corpse, and Lamb of God to name a few... Rock on!
My first Metallica concert was 1990 and Justice for all tour. They're so loud back then that your ears would ring for a week. But it would make Me smile because I knew I just went and seen.the Baddest MotherFuckers on the planet.But I have only seen them 11 Times I need more 🤘🤘
I’ve been to over 14 Metallica concerts and every single one was amazing. The best was still the Damaged Justice tour in 1989, it was my second Metallica concert (First was when they opened for Ozzy in 1986, only time I saw Cliff live). The energy was just insane and the air was electric. I got to meet the band in 2009 on the Death Magnetic tour, which was a lifetime dream come true. James is the reason I learned how to play guitar as a teenager and finally, 20+ years later I got to meet him. Their music and playing guitar saved my life as a teenager. High School was a really bad time for me, as I was bullied mercilessly for being “fat” even though I really wasn’t that fat. It destroyed my self esteem and made HS a living hell for me. Being able to come home, throw on any Metallica album at the time, and play through it start to finish was my way of getting those emotions and frustrations out. Without that outlet, I doubt I make it out of my teenage years.

The Berlin Wall came down in 1989. We witnessed it live on television. It was an amazing thing. My Dad had been part of the Berlin Air Lift at the end of WW2. He cried as he watched the wall come down. I was 18 & it was the 1st time I ever saw him shed a tear. This was the 1st taste of freedom for these people in Moscow/the former Soviet Union. Western music was illegal before the fall of the USSR. This is an amazing performance. Your reaction is quite fitting for this historical moment.
One of my favorite musical history moments. They stopped counting at 1.6 million so who really knows how many were there? The crowd with the helicopters and military guard around the stage is awesome!
And thinking from the history of the biggest live crowds this event is on 5 th or 6 position, Rod Stewart concert was the biggest with 4.2 million in Brazil on first spot then electronic musician Jean Michele Jare on 2-3 spots [one in France (Paris) and the other concert elsewhere] but as heavy rock-metal live event yeah this was the biggest festival live but Metallica was not the single band (like record holder Rod Stewart) because on same event with them was also AC/DC, Pantera & Black Crows and people were not just Russians were from other countries from Europe too.. but yeah.. hell of atmosphere and just imagine if one is right in the middle and needs to use the toilet.. what it will do ?!!!

To think that there were 1.6mil people is ludicrous. 1. nobody counted people 2. there were no tickets, and anybody could enter the airfield. if there were 400.000 people on this concert it would still be epic number, but people have to exaggerated everything like children.

Exit light. Imagine being there, the energy of the band and the crowd feeding off of each other, soldiers rocking out, helicopters to cool the crowd, the national flags, a veritable sea of people around the stage - a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
So I never went to concerts because I’m an introvert and hate crowds. However, I attended Louder Than Life in 2022 and it changed my life! Everyone, rich, poor, black, white, etc was rocking out to NIN, Kiss, Alice Cooper, Ministry, Evanescence, RHCP. It was humanity brought together by music. Since then I’ve seen Toto, Duran Duran, Bruno Mars, Blondie, The Killers, Depeche Mode, Bastille, Journey, etc. Every time I’m humbled by the way we collectively enjoy something as simple as music. ❤

Funny side story, and I'm going to be paraphrasing from memory, but some interviewer was giving Angus grief about their stuff sounding the same... stating something like, you've made 11 albums that people say all sound the same. Angus replied, rubbish! we've made 12 albums that all sound the same... :)
This song is about all the childhood fears when the lights go out. And sometimes we bring those fears with us into adulthood. The best song from this performance in Moscow is Creeping Death. This song was originally written by James hetfield about infant crib death. But was told by producer bob rock at the time that the lyrics were to harsh and he switched the lyrics to what they are known now. Still as powerful

I was 16 years old in 1991. I started to listen to Metallica, Ozzy and Megadeth. I grew up with the threat of the Soviets sending nuclear misslies against my country (Denmark). When the wall fell in Berlin and the Soviets wanted to become friends, it was the best feeling ever for me. I was a young teenager. But then it just went downhill again.. God dammit :( And this was done by moneypeople of the west and the east. So sad for the ordinary people.
The Soviets were a threat when I was a young girl. At school we used to have drills and get under our desks to protect ourselves from I'm guessing if we were ever bombed. I wish our world could come together and we could all love and help each other. Eliminate food & water shortages, poverty, having a home, etc...etc ...
I was 11, and remember watching the Berlin wall going down. I will never forget seeing my father almost shedding a tear of Joy when he explained how big this was. Miss those times of optimism

It was actually the song that propelled them to fame, they were doing so terribly before that, that they actually considered packing it all in. The Winds of Change was their swan song. Then it exploded, then their back catalogue exploded because of it.

So the Sandman is popular in many cultures around the world. He is said to sprinkle sand over the eyes of children at night to help them get to sleep and dream. Initially the song was supposed to be about SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) but as it was being written they changed it. Usually the sandman helps you go to sleep and have good dreams, but in the song, as you see if you watch their video, it's about nightmares. Their video for this is a must see, in my opinion.

Yea but it was few years later, plus unlike USSR it wasn't something new to have huge crowds especially in Rio. Monsters of Rock in Moscow made history for many reasons, not just the numbers. Similar maybe to Woodstock.
Back in 1989 there was a history making festival that also took place in Moscow. It was The Moscow Music Peace Festival which played on Aug. 12 ans 13. It included bands like Skid Row, Cinderella, Scorpions, Ozzy Osborne Bon Jovi, Motley Crue and Gorky Park. Well worth checking out.

I noticed on wiki that AC/DC’s set might have been included in their Live at Donington concert dvd? So maybe a licensing thing why your vhs didn’t have it?
The sound of freedom! I grew up listening to The Kinks, The Beatles, etc. That was my introduction to 'bad' music. And I loved it. I'm 71 and I still listen and love this song, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Santana, the list goes on and so many others. You should listen to Santana's Soul Sacrifice, at Woodstock. They took a hit of acid because they weren't supposed to go on for several hours. Less than an hour later they came and told them they are up because the band that was slotted to go on was running late. Funny story but true. You should read what Carlos said about it. :)
There were actually much fewer people. But it was the biggest gig before the Soviet Union fell. People were craving to see their idols. It was their FIRST time to see them live. It was a free gig. It was quite violent, wild, but full of energy and excitement!

It's my understanding that 3 miles away, at the US embassy, the sound from this concert was being measured in excess of 96 decibels. Sound becomes harmful to your hearing at 90 decibels. 😮
Metallica was the 1st concert my oldest son went to. He was only 13 or 14 and I let him go with a friend and his big brother. He had a great time and returned home safely. He'll be 40 this summer 😊

My big brother was a Metal Head back in the day and I used to listen to this all the time because we shared a room in the early 90's / late 80's. Although this was never really "my music", being I was a hip hop head, I learned to appreciate them. They were incredible for the time.
I'm not as big on metal but this is one of my favorite songs like it's up in the very top 10. Maybe top five even though it's not a genre that I'm as big of a fan of and I think it's a great genre. Sandman is the guy in the middle of the night that leaves the sand in the corner of your eyes when you wake up! The lyrics are exit *light, not life. He means exit light (awake) enter night ( falling asleep) take my hand off to never never land. (Dreaming) nightmares. B4 the wall went down, they weren't allowed to even listen to this. I guess the rich kids were gettin it off the black market & so everyone was listening but hiding it. When the wall came down they ended up letting them do this concert. Well, I can't remember all the people that played this show. AC/DC, Guns N Roses, etc... They had a lot of things go wrong. The sound system wasn't working & I believe a problem with the stage being not being built right. Geez, I would have been petrified they would rush the stage or just being pushed up from behind!! There would be so many people trampled! The stage would be the first thing to go! I would have to look it up & see which bands showed & which didn't, cuz I can't seem to pull it up in my memory! That might be something y'all might want to read the piece about it. All I know is I ❤ Metallica, this song & this awesome a$$ crowd!! I've been to their concert, but not this one! They put on a great show!!! This was a miracle!! One wrong thing in a thousand scenarios or more could have sent this sideways & had chaos like nobodys ever seen!! I'm thankful we got this Epic larger than life video that makes ya feel a tiny bit like you were there!! It's amazing!! Did you notice that 1.6 million people there & not one cell phone!! I don't think cells were around then! Thank God!! Bcuz all of them would be missing out on a once in a lifetime Event to be messaging, filming & taking pictures instead of experiencing an event like no one else had or ever will have again!!! P. S. I didn't see a port a potty 😂Even if you did, good luck getting back to your friends!! 🤣 Even the military was jamming out & not watching the crowd. They had helicopters circling around, but not all was doing crowd control! A lot of them were dropping water o the crowd to keep them from having heat stroke!! 🥵

The most people I have ever played for is around 300. I would get nervous / stage fright at first but after the fist few bars of musin it vanished. I would get goosebumps from the feedback of the audiance. 300 aint a big number unless you are a Spartan warrior lol. I cannot begin to imagine the power they must feel playing for over a million. That is insane!!

Inside offices 3 km away the sound level was 96 DB, they had the army control the crowds, but many of them joined the crowds (Reason why you see people in uniforms going ham) The helicopter right above the crowd were there to circulate the air flow for the many people watching..

I saw them in 1992 as a US Army soldier stationed in Munich Germany... it was awesome. There were people of all types at the show and it was all love. I bought the Black album at the Army Exchange and it sold out in 1 day
Here's the thing no one talks about, Russian police had to deal with thousands upon thousands of reports of R. that were committed against young women by young Russian men during the show. Some absolutely brutal fights broke out as the band played. When Hatfield was asked about what went on, he responded that everyone who attended temporarily lost their minds. That they simply weren't used to THAT level of Freedom, and didn't know how to deal with it. Financially it was a huge success for the band.... In every other way, it was a disaster!
And in ten more years it will be millions upon millions were raped and then years later it will be shown that it wasn't that big a deal but you guys are just gonna keep making the fish story bigger and the fish keeps getting bigger and the fish keeps getting bigger
1989, the wall came down. I was supposed to be in Berlin but got a bit drunk , based in Gutersloh with the British airforce. Had a plan to get out of trouble and it worked. The sheer hope and joy around at that time was amazing.

Because 1.5 million people jumped on it. I drank beer and stuck empty bottles into the ground with the neck down. When Metallica started, I was standing on a hard surface, with a girl on my shoulders, 50 meters from the stage.

I am 56, and I remember when Germany was divided east and west. When "Winds of Change" by the Scorpions came out and the Berlin wall fell, it was the same feeling. Like the world was coming together after WWII. Then Metallica went to Russia and it only escalated the feeling. I miss those days when we thought we were moving in a better direction.

I totally agree also!! Another good example is how our country including all Americans pulled together in the days that followed 9/11. You couldn't go down a residential street without seeing the American flag hanging everywhere. Unfortunately most dwell on our differences rather than all that we have in common. After 9/11 you could just feel it, the love and pride that we all felt for our country and our democracy. These days it is quite the opposite which is heartbreaking, also this makes us a weaker nation IMO. This concert was a gift to the Russian people from Gorbachev, a free all day concert that included five bands. I wonder how one would ever find their car after the show lol
I worked as a doorman for a friend's club in 1994 to 1996. The owner grew up with one of the band. It was the surprise of my life when Metallica performed in his 250 seat night club in Fairbanks, Alaska as a birthday gift for the club owner. Over a 3 year period when I worked there we had Quiet Riot, Blue Oyster Cult, Iron Maiden, Whitesnake, Motley Crew, Charlie Daniels, Confederate Railroad, and a dozen other big name bands of the era. He would sell tickets for 2 shows and the ticket prices were determined by taking the hotel, (which he owns), meals, and payment for the band and divide the cost by 250. The average ticket price was around $30 dollars. I have 2 signed guitars from shows there. One was signed by Bruce Dickinson, and the other one signed by the entire group Blue Oyster Cult.

I heard a formerly Soviet man say that before the Soviet Union fell that western music like this was forbidden. They very quietly listened to it via Voice of America in their teenage and similar bedrooms and made copies on old medical x-rays. If caught it would have gone very bad for them. So this pure joy in the audience was one of their first real tastes of freedom. I read that the bands did the concert for free. It was a singular amazing thing!

He needed as much support as he could get as he was trying to stop the old guard taking over. Metallica were called in at short notice,they were on a European tour. A few months later the Soviet Union collapsed.

One could argue that the USSR collapsed when the Berlin Wall came down, the rest was just death throws.
The Berlin Wall came down in 1989 this concert was in September 1991 the Soviet Union could have carried on, the old guard were trying to do that and arrested Gorbachev, President Boris Yeltsin stood in front of the Russian Whitehouse and personally convinced the tanks and troops to stay with him, about twenty people were killed but the troops agreed and gave loyalty to Yeltsin. If not the Soviet Union would have carried on. If you watch the full movie of this concert it shows ACDC on a tour of the area and they are shown where the troops halted their advance.

Metallica live is a singular experience. That level of hype is what rock music can do to you.
When you go to amazing bands you can FEEL it in your chest and I'm not just talking about the drums and base! I had so much emotions swell up I had tears in my eyes while feeling electric! I've seen Ozzy, Killswtich Engaged, Job for a Cowboy, Marylyn Mansion, In This Moment, Devil Driver, Hatebreed, Cannibal Corpse, and Lamb of God to name a few... Rock on!
My first Metallica concert was 1990 and Justice for all tour. They're so loud back then that your ears would ring for a week. But it would make Me smile because I knew I just went and seen.the Baddest MotherFuckers on the planet.But I have only seen them 11 Times I need more 🤘🤘

I’ve been to over 14 Metallica concerts and every single one was amazing. The best was still the Damaged Justice tour in 1989, it was my second Metallica concert (First was when they opened for Ozzy in 1986, only time I saw Cliff live). The energy was just insane and the air was electric.
I got to meet the band in 2009 on the Death Magnetic tour, which was a lifetime dream come true. James is the reason I learned how to play guitar as a teenager and finally, 20+ years later I got to meet him. Their music and playing guitar saved my life as a teenager. High School was a really bad time for me, as I was bullied mercilessly for being “fat” even though I really wasn’t that fat. It destroyed my self esteem and made HS a living hell for me. Being able to come home, throw on any Metallica album at the time, and play through it start to finish was my way of getting those emotions and frustrations out. Without that outlet, I doubt I make it out of my teenage years.
There really is no comparison to being there when a band plays live, sure you have their album, but but no it is not the same.
Let's take a moment to appreciate how virtually impossible it is in an outdoor venue to get that kind of sound quality and clarity. Hats off to their sound engineer and crew and the guy working the sound board

The Berlin Wall came down in 1989. We witnessed it live on television. It was an amazing thing. My Dad had been part of the Berlin Air Lift at the end of WW2. He cried as he watched the wall come down. I was 18 & it was the 1st time I ever saw him shed a tear.
This was the 1st taste of freedom for these people in Moscow/the former Soviet Union. Western music was illegal before the fall of the USSR.

One of my favorite musical history moments. They stopped counting at 1.6 million so who really knows how many were there? The crowd with the helicopters and military guard around the stage is awesome!
And thinking from the history of the biggest live crowds this event is on 5 th or 6 position, Rod Stewart concert was the biggest with 4.2 million in Brazil on first spot then electronic musician Jean Michele Jare on 2-3 spots [one in France (Paris) and the other concert elsewhere] but as heavy rock-metal live event yeah this was the biggest festival live but Metallica was not the single band (like record holder Rod Stewart) because on same event with them was also AC/DC, Pantera & Black Crows and people were not just Russians were from other countries from Europe too.. but yeah.. hell of atmosphere and just imagine if one is right in the middle and needs to use the toilet.. what it will do ?!!!

Exit light. Imagine being there, the energy of the band and the crowd feeding off of each other, soldiers rocking out, helicopters to cool the crowd, the national flags, a veritable sea of people around the stage - a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
So I never went to concerts because I’m an introvert and hate crowds. However, I attended Louder Than Life in 2022 and it changed my life! Everyone, rich, poor, black, white, etc was rocking out to NIN, Kiss, Alice Cooper, Ministry, Evanescence, RHCP. It was humanity brought together by music. Since then I’ve seen Toto, Duran Duran, Bruno Mars, Blondie, The Killers, Depeche Mode, Bastille, Journey, etc. Every time I’m humbled by the way we collectively enjoy something as simple as music. ❤
Our own AC/DC played there too, and it was their stage that Metallica is on. What an amazing feeling to play in front of so many people!

I was 16 years old in 1991. I started to listen to Metallica, Ozzy and Megadeth. I grew up with the threat of the Soviets sending nuclear misslies against my country (Denmark). When the wall fell in Berlin and the Soviets wanted to become friends, it was the best feeling ever for me. I was a young teenager. But then it just went downhill again.. God dammit :( And this was done by moneypeople of the west and the east. So sad for the ordinary people.
The Soviets were a threat when I was a young girl. At school we used to have drills and get under our desks to protect ourselves from I'm guessing if we were ever bombed. I wish our world could come together and we could all love and help each other. Eliminate food & water shortages, poverty, having a home, etc...etc ...
I was 11, and remember watching the Berlin wall going down. I will never forget seeing my father almost shedding a tear of Joy when he explained how big this was. Miss those times of optimism

So the Sandman is popular in many cultures around the world. He is said to sprinkle sand over the eyes of children at night to help them get to sleep and dream.
Initially the song was supposed to be about SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) but as it was being written they changed it. Usually the sandman helps you go to sleep and have good dreams, but in the song, as you see if you watch their video, it's about nightmares. Their video for this is a must see, in my opinion.

Yea but it was few years later, plus unlike USSR it wasn't something new to have huge crowds especially in Rio. Monsters of Rock in Moscow made history for many reasons, not just the numbers. Similar maybe to Woodstock.
Back in 1989 there was a history making festival that also took place in Moscow. It was The Moscow Music Peace Festival which played on Aug. 12 ans 13. It included bands like Skid Row, Cinderella, Scorpions, Ozzy Osborne Bon Jovi, Motley Crue and Gorky Park. Well worth checking out.

I remember as a kid they played different bits and pieces from this concert on MTV and being 8-9 years old and staying up late on a Saturday night with some popcorn and a Pepsi to watch this was mind blowing to say the least.

I noticed on wiki that AC/DC’s set might have been included in their Live at Donington concert dvd? So maybe a licensing thing why your vhs didn’t have it?

The sound of freedom! I grew up listening to The Kinks, The Beatles, etc. That was my introduction to 'bad' music. And I loved it. I'm 71 and I still listen and love this song, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Santana, the list goes on and so many others. You should listen to Santana's Soul Sacrifice, at Woodstock. They took a hit of acid because they weren't supposed to go on for several hours. Less than an hour later they came and told them they are up because the band that was slotted to go on was running late. Funny story but true. You should read what Carlos said about it. :)

There were actually much fewer people. But it was the biggest gig before the Soviet Union fell. People were craving to see their idols. It was their FIRST time to see them live. It was a free gig. It was quite violent, wild, but full of energy and excitement!

It's my understanding that 3 miles away, at the US embassy, the sound from this concert was being measured in excess of 96 decibels. Sound becomes harmful to your hearing at 90 decibels. 😮

Metallica was the 1st concert my oldest son went to. He was only 13 or 14 and I let him go with a friend and his big brother. He had a great time and returned home safely. He'll be 40 this summer 😊

My big brother was a Metal Head back in the day and I used to listen to this all the time because we shared a room in the early 90's / late 80's. Although this was never really "my music", being I was a hip hop head, I learned to appreciate them. They were incredible for the time.

I'm not as big on metal but this is one of my favorite songs like it's up in the very top 10. Maybe top five even though it's not a genre that I'm as big of a fan of and I think it's a great genre. It just usually is a little too over the top for just me personally but I think it's still great. But this song Oh I have loved it since I was a very young kid

Sandman is the guy in the middle of the night that leaves the sand in the corner of your eyes when you wake up! The lyrics are exit *light, not life. He means exit light (awake) enter night ( falling asleep) take my hand off to never never land. (Dreaming) nightmares. B4 the wall went down, they weren't allowed to even listen to this. I guess the rich kids were gettin it off the black market & so everyone was listening but hiding it. When the wall came down they ended up letting them do this concert. Well, I can't remember all the people that played this show. AC/DC, Guns N Roses, etc... They had a lot of things go wrong. The sound system wasn't working & I believe a problem with the stage being not being built right. Geez, I would have been petrified they would rush the stage or just being pushed up from behind!! There would be so many people trampled! The stage would be the first thing to go! I would have to look it up & see which bands showed & which didn't, cuz I can't seem to pull it up in my memory! That might be something y'all might want to read the piece about it. All I know is I ❤ Metallica, this song & this awesome a$$ crowd!! I've been to their concert, but not this one! They put on a great show!!! This was a miracle!! One wrong thing in a thousand scenarios or more could have sent this sideways & had chaos like nobodys ever seen!! I'm thankful we got this Epic larger than life video that makes ya feel a tiny bit like you were there!! It's amazing!! Did you notice that 1.6 million people there & not one cell phone!! I don't think cells were around then! Thank God!! Bcuz all of them would be missing out on a once in a lifetime Event to be messaging, filming & taking pictures instead of experiencing an event like no one else had or ever will have again!!! P. S. I didn't see a port a potty 😂Even if you did, good luck getting back to your friends!! 🤣 Even the military was jamming out & not watching the crowd. They had helicopters circling around, but not all was doing crowd control! A lot of them were dropping water o the crowd to keep them from having heat stroke!! 🥵

The most people I have ever played for is around 300. I would get nervous / stage fright at first but after the fist few bars of musin it vanished. I would get goosebumps from the feedback of the audiance. 300 aint a big number unless you are a Spartan warrior lol. I cannot begin to imagine the power they must feel playing for over a million. That is insane!!

I saw them in 1992 as a US Army soldier stationed in Munich Germany... it was awesome. There were people of all types at the show and it was all love. I bought the Black album at the Army Exchange and it sold out in 1 day
Here's the thing no one talks about, Russian police had to deal with thousands upon thousands of reports of R. that were committed against young women by young Russian men during the show. Some absolutely brutal fights broke out as the band played. When Hatfield was asked about what went on, he responded that everyone who attended temporarily lost their minds. That they simply weren't used to THAT level of Freedom, and didn't know how to deal with it. Financially it was a huge success for the band.... In every other way, it was a disaster!
And in ten more years it will be millions upon millions were raped and then years later it will be shown that it wasn't that big a deal but you guys are just gonna keep making the fish story bigger and the fish keeps getting bigger and the fish keeps getting bigger

1989, the wall came down. I was supposed to be in Berlin but got a bit drunk , based in Gutersloh with the British airforce. Had a plan to get out of trouble and it worked. The sheer hope and joy around at that time was amazing.
