The writers don’t know how to cater to adolescent girls the same way the show resonates with adolescent boys consequently it was concluded that Meg’s character was depressed social outcast.
But for some reason they don’t write her out if they don’t know how to write her
that is a lame excuse, Meg was way better at the start
@@TheAntiDisneyEmperor honestly agree. If they really don't know how to write her character then just write her out of the show. Have her move out and make her a guest character who pops from time to time and have her life noticeabley improve for it. Because i honestly think Meg is too kind to actually cut her family off completely, regardless of how they treated her.
So the writers didn’t bother to ask the three women who worked on the show how their adolescent went for pointers
If thats true then why are Haily and Robertra treated much nicer ?
"Maybe if I'm miserable they don't have to be" that's the same thing abuse survivors say when they start to develop a martyr personality. They accept the abuse believing that they're saving others from it, or even that they're saving their abuser from getting into trouble for the abuse
I know that and so do you, but tell that to Seth McFarland
That episode brought joy to my heart after being such a big family fan. I never liked how they treated Meg. The jokes could be funny sometimes but then it got very over bearing after a while. So when she went off on her family it made me very happy, but then she said that… when I tell you I was so angry. They could’ve took it to another level and had her completely ruin everyone life in her family for just that episode and go back to normal in the next one like they usually do, but alas they decided to have her accept her abuse 😢
@@seeleunit2000 Seth knows that abuse is a bad thing, but it's fun in Family Guy
This line literally ruined me watching it as a child
maybe megs miserable because she is just awful and take joy in bring other down for no reason heres seashell seahprse party "you suck and ypu suck and suck and im amazing people should kiss the ground i walk on IM THE GREATEST" ok tone it down meg are you trying to get a raise out of me or to put it in megeise she spends the episode "F..k you f..k you for sure and f..k you most of all why doesnt anyone like me"
I remember a Gumball episode where the character Larry quit all his jobs because he kept being abused by his customers and the town fell into chaos hours later because they couldn't function without him.
oh my god, yes !!! i loved that ep so much
It wasn't hours, It was mere minutes!

she deserve a whole season of her being happy like moving out like she did when everyone though she died, let she live away like brian but in her own choice
One time, I had a dream where Meg and a teen who's a slightly average-looking version of her switched places (it was Meg's idea) for a few months to see if they cared to notice...
Sadly, only Brian was the only one in the household to care about Meg's whereabouts.
The "look-a-like" and Meg switched phone numbers and clothing to catch up on each other's lives.
"Meg, I say this with the utmost respect... How in the [bleep] did you not snap and run away from this hellhole of the Griffin residence?!"
Unfortunately, I woke up before Meg could respond.
@@christinalittleton3771 that sounds like a great idea, yeah Brian seem to at least care about meg more then her whole family, possibly Stewie too
Oh that happened already for the past four seasons Meg has become a beloved Juno style character where she is weird and comfy in her own skin and people know vibe with her new confidence.
Sounds like a good episode idea@@christinalittleton3771
@@SparkleBurgerLuvyeah but points against Brian for convincing her to continue taking the abuse, let's not forget when she found religion and she got a little over zealous and Brian made her lose her faith in God
Meg is clearly the nicest character on this show. I don't understand why they want us to hate her?
My theory of why Meg is so hated is because Meg is really talented in previous episodes that her family grew jealous of her. So they constantly abuse and put her down so Meg will feel like her talents means absolutely nothing to nobody.
@@Ravenbloom918 That's actually very common in the scapegoat role in psychology.
Exactly
because its a joke, zoomer.
@@MadMaxineC and its not funny, zoomer.
I always thought that Lois has been bullying Meg because she was jealous and terrified. Meg does look like her mother, and Lois only has her looks. Meg is extremly talented and she's young and has her mother's looks. Lois knows that if Meg was built up, she would be invisable. She has to tear down Meg to be the top girl in the family.
Allegedly in universe she looks like a girl Peter, but if that were true… she should be drawn like Peter? The only thing she gets from him are her crap eye sight and hair color
@dimsufferer9951 Exactly when Brian said that about why would God give her a "hot mom" (in my opinion Lois looks like a NPC with a bad hairdo) yet looks like Peter. Meg is basically Lois with glasses, a beanie, and brown hair. So if Brian thinks Meg is ugly then Lois is too lmao
If she lost weight Lois would pale in comparison
Considering how petty and adolescent brained Lois is, this checks out.
@@Zayizzleyeah we've been shown what happens if Meg actually gets a makeover and changes the way she dresses, she only went back to how she currently looks because the sudden validation was too much and losing her virginity on live television, she has a lovely singing voice unlike Lois
As a kid, I actually had Meg Griffin as an imaginary friend so seeing the mistreatment from her family makes me feel sad.
That's actually really sweet.
Awww that's so cute 🤍
Me 2
Meg is a victim of the status quo and uncreative, untalented, out of touch writers. None of them were teenage girls, or if they were they forgot what it was like to be one. She was loosely modeled after Marty McFly’s sister, or perhaps a physical hybrid of Lois and Peter. Honestly, she has the potential to be better, but character development is a no-no on a show that has run its course for too long and suffered seasonal rot.
Pretty much
That's FOX for ya. They see a new vessel, and they go ALL IN on on whatever's expendable. The only victim that MIGHT be able to withstand this BS logic is Bob's Burgers. But even then, how long could their quality last?
It's still funny though.
It’s like the show was too lazy to put in the effort to do proper research
Calling them untalented is honestly a wild take they can't write a teenage girl but they've done other things well and some people honestly talk about writing as if they know everything about the craft
Not to mention that Rachael Macfarlane IS SETH’S SISTER! She works with her brother and he can’t draw from memory of what she was like as a teenager? Does he still write for the show or just do voices at this point? But still, he has a sister who at one point was a teenager and works with him. I find that whole “don’t know how to write for teenage girls because we’re men” is bull crap. It never occurred to them to ask women what it was like to be a teenage girl? I have a degree in Creative Writing. I went to school and have made friends with men who write women really well. And these were men in their late 30s and early 40s. It can be done
Wow just wow.
Yeah, he’s not writing for the show anymore
@@dimsufferer9951yep you can tell when it dropped down in quality
5:13 the seeds for Meg’s abuse were kind of planted in Season 3, with jokes implying she was the least favorite kid, getting crushed by a piano and being left there, the family reading her diary and not caring about her crying, and even Peter and Lois not caring about Meg trying to eat a bowl of peanuts to end her life (she’s allergic).
They always say Meg is ugly when she is litterly Lois but slightly smaller with pink, glasses and brown hair like how Chris is Peter but slightly smaller, hat, blue, and blond hair
Real life shit😂😂😂😂
they probably say that to belittle her.
I hate how meg is treated. And i hate the incestuous relationship that the writers have often hinted at between her and Chris. This show has been out for how long now? And they still dont know how to write anything for Meg. She needs to have a friend or maybe even get a boyfriend or girlfriend to give her that support she needs and to have someone to work with on meg centered episodes. They said theyd go lighter on her in recent seasons but infeel like their answer for that was just not having her too often. (Which im sure is somewhat due to Mila Kunis being busy) but still. She deserves better.
Yeah, she needs a long term partner who isn't either 1. a one off joke like Mario, or 2. a fucking one eisode plot point like with the inmate boyfriend or the dude who cheated on her with Lois.
But she does also have friends at school who she confides in, but they don't show up a lot.
And also, I'd like to preface that I'm 100% not defending the type of relationship Meg and Chris have, but maybe the reason they have that type of realtionship in-universe is because as so many peopple have pointed out before, Meg looks a lot like Lois and Chris has had a lot of jokes and plot points about him being in love with Lois. And maybe Meg's recipricating his feelings because at least he's being nice to her whenever they do weird stuff.
I blame the Incest bits of the show on that one Halloween episode in the early seasons where they made em "do too much" with each other at Connie's party in the closet, writers must be into some weird ass crap
@@lugiamastero13 That’s why at this point I’d totally be okay if Family Guy got cancelled. The writer’s I feel just put no effort and go for the easiest jokes. Or maybe Seth needs to get back to working on the shows more than just lending his voice cuz you can even see the quality of writing dip in American Dad’s latest seasons too. (In my opinion. Lol)
@@qualityconcepts5762 yeah honestly all the bad jokes and making all the characters mindless idiots making Stevie unbelievably gay and other garbage killed the show for me I have watched any of it for ages which is unfortunate
Funny enough, the first couple of seasons gave Peter a few reasons to resent Meg. In one cutaway gag Peter mentions knowing disappointment when at birth he wanted a son. In another cutaway (I think) he actually admits to a psychiatrist that just seeing Meg triggers him to be violent. Probably the biggest reason though was during the courtroom scene during the episode where Brian violates Carter's prized hound where Peter admits he knows Meg isn't his daughter and Brian knows who her real father is somehow.
Considering Lois's track record of infidelity and being "Loose Lois" it's highly possible none of the kids are even his and Peter is taking the resentment he has for Lois out on Meg. Probably because if he actually took it out on Lois, she'd fight back.
It'd be cool if she actually found her real dad and can be loved I bet Peter would throw a fit 😂
@@hexmaniacgabby5160 There's a fan wikia that makes an episode where Meg meets her dad and it turns out that he's just as unlucky as her if not more.
I actually really loved Meg’s speech. As much as I was abused growing up, Meg basically said everything that was weighing on my mind. So, naturally, up until she talked to Brian I felt so vindicated.
Unfortunately I was the Meg in my household, so whenever I made a slight infraction I had to apologize for it. Even breathing the wrong way was cause to be abused. I thought the episode itself was great except when Brian interfered and the aftermath.
And yes, Meg is my favorite character in Family Guy.
I am the same way. I wish they just written her out of the show entirely. She could have gone 'No Contact' with them and finally moved on with life.
I was like 17 when this episode first aired in the UK, and by the time it aired i'd been sick of the Meg hate for a few years. Like i first started watching Family Guy regularly in like 2007 and by like 2010 i was already sick of the Meg abuse.
What really frustrated me about this episode was this was the perfect chance for the Family Guy writers to actually do a soft-reboot of sorts for the characters and have them treat Meg (and each other) better than they had been. I'm not saying they had to hold hands and be constantly nice to each other, but this episode was the perfect opportunity to actually let the characters grow a bit and instead they just have Meg decide it's her role and her duty to let them abuse her. That is just horrid.
And the whole 'we don't know how to write a teenage girl' excuse is just dumb, because in that case just write her off. Or let her move out of the Griffin's house and give her a happy life, and let her pop in as a guest every now and then, because lets be real Meg is not the kind of character to cut people out of her life completely regardless of how they treat her. Or as you said, they should have gotten some of the women they knew on board with the show to at least give some input...or just hire some women into the writers room. They had plenty of opportunities to learn to write her better.
Exactly.
Considering Hayley Smith and Roberta Brown were created by Seth MacFarlane, that just further proves it can be done not to mention they've had females on the writing staff for years
@@byronrush9802 exactly. So the excuse of 'we don't have enough women on the writing team,' is just pure BS.
Heres my theory as to why the whole town tends to bash meg. An unfortunate phenomenon with abuse/bully victims is abusers/bullies have a weird way of spotting people who are victims and therefore they target them.
They target who they percieve as weak or an easy target Meg is a loner so it's pretty easy to single her out
It seems that the people who created Family Guy wanted to make Meg Griffin as a butt-monkey for no explained reason. Heck Peter and Lois treated her badly ever since she was a freaking baby. Meg doesn't deserve to be abused or get bullied at all! Meg deserves better as Peter should be the one to shut up.😮💨😬😰😡
@@rainbowtoyfunrandomess1982 It was never Seth’s fault okay. Since he is less involved in writing the show became worse
@@daniapfel2825 Wait, really? Also I'm sorry if I overreacted.
@@rainbowtoyfunrandomess1982 Okay
this may be shocking but Meg didn't deserve all the hate the Griffin Family was really toxic
@@user-jh4lx4mi3c that’s just not shocking at all it’s just stating facts
Agree. The Griffin’s felt like a real family in the earlier seasons.
I was a kid watching family guy's older seasons and I preferred early seasons meg since she still actually felt like a character instead of a punching bag.
Just because older people couldn't relate and they couldn't write younger characters as good doesn't mean you need to turn them into punching bag.
it's just a lame excuse, they have god damn female voice actresses
One of the family guy writers is a woman
@missNekolover91 mila kunis plays meg. Mila kunis, who married ashton kutcher (the guy who didnt report a woman's murder because it might hurt his career). Mila kunis, who is friends with a convicted serial rapist, and wrote a letter to the judge to have leniency on him. Mila kunis, who gave a half-assed "apology" when she got called out for that.
Mila kunis is a self-loathing woman. There won't be any stellar insights from her on how to write Meg better.
Meg abuse. Not the only reason, but the main reason why I'll never be a fan of Family Guy.
The endless bullying on Meg is a huge reason why I stopped watching. It just makes me uncomfortable.
Agree. Exactly why I prefer the older episodes.
Literally my reasoning too.
I know the show isn’t really supposed to be taken seriously, but I wish the writers treated her better and did more with her. She’s just the punching bag of the show.
I love ( sarcastically )how Meg and Klaus were given the same reason for why they were so poorly treated. They are the “glue”. without them, the family would be torn apart. because of their strong personalities and how the can hardly stand each other. They need some sort of outlet(Meg/Klaus) to release their hatred and anger for each other and others so The family can come together and be whole.
Bad enough that they thought it was a point worth making even once. they found it so nice they wrote it twice. 🤦♂
I'm guessing Meg and Chris's time in the south REALLY had an impact.
Also, incredibly minor nitpick: The kind of car crash Meg was in when driving Peter and co. wasn't a T-bone, but she got rear-ended. A t-bone crash is the front of a car collides with the side of another car, so that when looked at from above, it looks like a capital T.
This is the difference between why Meg’s mistreatment is abuse and squidward’s mistreatment is seen as funny.
Meg is a teenage girl calling out for love and acceptance. Very rarely does she do stuff that warrants her treatment.
Squidward is bitter and mean. He takes joy in crushing SpongeBobs fun and is all around kind of a jerk. When he gets poor treatment we realize it’s a funny gag because we know that squidward deserves it.
0:12
I didn't realise it was a phrase, I could honestly believe that Peter has a habit of sneaking out to the shed/garage/whereever just to open and stir cans of paint and Lois found out and got annoyed by it because he's just leave the cans open or something.
It literally sounds like a gag they could do.
Personally I see Meg as being a mix of her parents.
Exactly. That's how genetics work. Funny how the show calls Meg ugly and she is literally a merge of her parents.
@@summerrose8110 maybe they are parts about themselves that they don’t like.
@meganshaw1949 You may have a point, so they abuse Meg because they hate themselves. That explains alot, doesn't excuse it however it explains why Meg gets that treatment.
@@summerrose8110 while it’s not excuses, it’s more fact and reason-it’s because Meg is a mixture of more of the negative traits, facts and behaviors of Peter, Lois and of any other relatives that they hate. Out of the three Griffin children Meg is the only child to share physical traits with relatives outside of the main household.
My father and brother still act all shocked when I say that them constantly referring to me as "Meg" and laughing about it together did serious damage to my self-esteem 🙃
Sounds like they're jackasses
I’m sorry about that.
Meg irl:
My family called me lightning rod because of this episode. I told them its hilarious that they are self aware enough to make the connection but not be better people. They tried to brush it off...until they were upset they weren't invited to my housewarming party because theyre "family"....i simply said "im not family to you, im just your lightning rod for sadness. So why would family matter in this?"
I no longer speak to my siblings and my parents (whom werent in on it but never stopped it) have done a full 180 and actually got to know me support me and dad was able to walk me down the aisle
@@CactusSpiderInYourHouse I’m sorry.
At this point, I’d rather see a Meg spinoff where she’s finally moved away from her terrible family than watch any new Family Guy episodes if Fox and/or Disney want to keep it going. Meg has always been one of my favourite Family Guy characters (aside from Stewie and classic Brian), and this is how they repay her?!
The Simpsons and Family Guy crossover episode was also pretty painful, it make it REALLY obvious how badly Meg was abused/mistreated
I got an “ad” watching this which was just a thirty minute compilation of Peppa Pig food based episodes
Ended up watching the whole thing
I get that Meg is the punching bag of Family Guy but she is really being used that way for a long period of time throughout the show. She doesn't deserve this much hatred in the Family Guy universe.
It was briefly implied in an early season that Meg murdered her older/younger prettier sister at a very young age, and the family has been covering it up for years. Given the family's past history this not unlikely.
i hated this episode so much, the ending ruined the whole show for me, everything up to that point I loved, but the ending, THE ENDING RUINS THE WHOLE EPISODE FOR ME, AND IS WHY I HATE IT SO MUCH
I agree Seahorse Seashell Party sucks and basically the episode Family Guy died. But Better Off Without Meg is even worse. It’s basically the Family Guy version of The Fairly Odd Parents episode It’s A Wishful Life and SpongeBob episode Gone.
Oddly enough Meg abuse is gone and has been for the past four seasons. Now she is a Juno style character a misfit-weirdo whose comfortable in her own skin and people [inuniverse] now vibe with her energy. She isn't bullied at all and now she bullies Peter.
I ask this same question when it comes to the world of Loud House and why IT seems to hate Lincoln so much.
But just like @The_Griffins_99 said, it feels like the writers have just as hard of a time writing likeable stories for Lincoln as Family Guy's own can't write meg stories that well
That hallucination sequence was a trip and a half. I've never had that kind of experience on shrooms though admittedly I've only had it twice.
First time was as tea. I mistook a floor lamp as a houseplant and had a conversation with it about life, the universe and everything.
The second time I just chewed the shroom up and ate it. That time my hallucinations were more internal and focused on how i think of my own self. I did see the yard transform into a jungle and back again and I saw a Martian war machine from the 1953 war of the worlds movie but mostly i just felt like I was underwater and also on top of a mountain while my body shifted and warped like an animation by Sally Cruickshank.
Although when I got home and went to bed i had to reason with myself to not be afraid of my dog because I kept seeing her head split open and turn into The Thing. But i just kept reminding myself that it was the shrooms.
Yah it would have been more accurate if it were acid or LSD? Mushrooms aren’t like that to my understanding.
I dislike that show because of how they treat Meg. I was mistreated as the only female child in my family. The teen years were the worst and watching this makes me angry.
I relate to Meg because she's hated. Luckily, I'm not hated by family, but I am hated by nearly everyone else. But I'm autistic, so it makes sense I'm hated.
If what you're saying is the truth then you shouldn't be hated for having autism.
@seeleunit2000 I'm autistic too, but I wouldn't use the term 'hated' more like misunderstood is more fitting.
@@summerrose8110I’m autistic too and I do agree that’s a better way of saying it. I do relate.
Just bc you’re autistic does not mean you’re hated, ppl who hate on you like that are obviously insecure
I think the reason the word hates Meg is because the writer doesn’t know how to write for Teen girls and so they just made her the Punching bag of the series and Meg doesn’t deserve any of this.
Lame excuse ever. The writers don't know how to write teenage girls so they have one be abused to extreme to make her depressed and suicidal because they jerk off on the pain and misery on females. I'm really tired of that weak excuse.
Meg going "guess I'll be the lightning rod like I always was!" was like when cartoon characters win the lottery, but then they have to lose everything at the end of the episode as an excuse for the show's usual format to reset itself. I can't stand when writers do that.
Because the main creator himself has a loathe fetish of "Someone That Used To Know"!

Meg standing up for herself and really laying into her family was totally justified. Her dialogue was actually well written. The problem is that it doesn’t fit the tone of Family Guy. This is not a show that is interested in character growth or even plot continuity. It is purely a vehicle for absurd, edgy humor, pop culture references, and cutaway gags. In a better, more insightful show (such as Bojack Horseman), her diatribe would have worked. Here it results in a boring storyline. Frankly, this is not what people who watch Family Guy want to see.
At first it seems like the episode is trying to teach a lesson, but the lesson is disregarded at the end. The serious moments aren’t meaningful; they’re pointless. Meg accepts her abuse as necessary and inevitable. Nothing changes. The writers are acknowledging the issue while informing us that they don’t care. In their effort to flip off the critics, they created an episode that’s a depressing slog with no payoff. Ideally they would have taken those criticisms to heart and demonstrated some actual talent by including Meg in more funny storylines that don’t revolve around her abuse, but honestly I would have respected them more if they had just ignored the criticisms altogether. This was the worst way to go about it.
Totally agree, that episode is pure garbage with its toxic messages of your a jerk for standing up for yourself and accept being abused by your family. Better Off Meg is even more worse because it’s like The Fairy Odd Parents episode It’s A Wishful Life and SpongeBob episode Gone.
Regarding Chris being an actual bastard, there's actually two instances of that. In the episode where Peter gets a gun, Lois eventually takes it away from him and hides in the closet. Peter finds it again and tells the others, minus Chris, that he found it in the box with Chris' ADOPTION PAPERS. Then he threatens them with the gun that they heard nothing. Then there's an episode where Lois lets it slip that they stole Chris from a Dutch family, and there's a cutaway to the Dutch family who all look like Chris. Then cuts back to Lois and Chris speaking in Dutch, with Chris not knowing how he's speaking it.
This episode was the reason I stopped watching family guy.
I always wondered about this myself she seems like a good person at times despite her twisted nature if one can fix her she would be lovely but brides that yea I wonder about this
20:37 Phantom Strider also complained about the "Dad noises" bit in his Top 10 Worst Family Guy Episodes.
Gotta point out "Everybody Hates Chris" was a show BASED ON REAL LIFE so while some parts sucked its what happened. Like the dad over working self but still being made to be in wrong cause he can cook an clean better than his wife
I have a love/hate relationship with Meg. On one hand, I love how she surgically dismantled the Griffins. On the other hand, I hate she took it all back and saves the people that will actively choose to let her perish, she even questions herself on this. After awhile, it is hard for me to sympathize with Meg, but she's still my favorite Griffin. The only bright side is she, once every 75th blue moon, will give light payback. My favorite Meg episodes are the main episode in this video and the episode where she comes back from incarceration.
Speaking as a prototype i seen only in middle children from what i seen. And what happens next sometimes- wait your a star wars fan?
EXCELLENT WORK. KITTY MONK FAMILY GUY MEG GRIFFIN PUNCHING BAG SKIP GAG
My guess is that the residents of Quahog are butt hurt that Meg is actually capable of being sweet and talented and don't want her to know that
Georgie: “And another thing, ‘No more picking on -Dim- Meg’! That’s the new way!”
Meg Griffin as an archetype is always there whenever Seth MacFarlane makes a show. It's the character that, over time, is put down exclusively because they exist to be put down.
Klaus from American Dad is just the Meg of his show, for example. When you look at the early seasons of American Dad or Family Guy you see very little of the general extreme hatred the shows now throw at their respective Megs.
I'm entirely positive that if The Orville got more than five seasons that it also would have a Meg. It's just something Seth does in all his shows, eventually. I'm not entirely sure why, but he always does it.
Klaus makes sense at least, he's trash with anyone who talks to him, he was given an opportunity to have a body fully functional but he ruined it, He's chaotic, Racist and often teams up with Roger to do bad things, so him being a punching bag makes sense
@@Eric6761 Totally agree.
The writers just love injecting their schadenfreude onto Meg.
I always thought the whole thing about Meg being ugly was less about her character actually being drawn as ugly, and more a joke because she's portrayed by an actress who, especially around the time the show started was perceived as one of the most attractive women in Hollywood.
I always assumed Seth McFarland was just kinda making a joke of having the "ugly girl" be portrayed by the "hot girl".
Admittedly, the abuse that Meg and Brenda endure does feel a bit too real. As for Peter, he reminds me of an Internet troll, doing and saying things that he thinks is funny without considering the feelings of others. Even when the feelings of others are justified, he just straight-up doesn't care. Frankly, I think that Meg hitting Peter below the belt with a bag of nickels is hilarious karma.
ugh I swear nobody deserves to be treated like that especially Meg herself, jeez poor Meg and Carrie, nobody deserves to be treated like that, they both Meg and Carrie both deserve better than this ugh jeez, poor gals!.

I really wish they would go back to Meg getting unintentionally embarrassed or screwed over by her flawed family who tries to the the best for her but fail miserably from their stupidity. No matter how long the show runs there will be kids who are embarrassed by their dads
Probably the same reason it hates me. Some people just aren't meant to be happy.
I don't think that's true
meg is genuinely one of my favorite family guy characters tho
Carrie from what I heard was some girl that Steven King met, she lived with an overly religious Christian. He was helping them move. I didn't know that Steven King's wife helped him write Carrie.
31:25 i clap 👏 👏 MAGNIFICENT! MAGNIFICENT!MAGNIFICENT!MAGNIFICENT!
I'm still disappointed that they never turned Meg into 'Carrie White' when Family Guy came out with a Stephen King homage episode. I wanted to see her get her revenge so bad!
Kitty, you are beautiful. That's all.
I actually have a crush on Meg (I'm almost 14 so I'm young enough to crush on her without it being creepy) and I always imagine my self-insert Fun-Size, who is Meg's fanmade S/O, giving her gifts and telling her stuff like "You're beautiful" and "Your family doesn't deserve children" and stuff like that. In my AU Meg actually gets adopted by Fun-size's family, and ends up marrying them (Fun-size is non-binary fyi)
99% sure Stephen King threw his manuscript for Carrie into the trash because he kept getting rejected by publishers and his wife encouraged him to keep sending it out, not because he didn't know how to write a teenage girl character.
Thanks for actually looking for in universe reasons. Too many people I discuss stuff with just go "well it's because the writers suck" and refuse to actually engage with thinking further.
Brian, (Who hates himself) would see the worst of Meg as the genuine best. Tragic really
Shut up Meg line is the reason I cannot watch family guy so i didn't know Meg was not liked. Even if I knew, hearing people say shut up to someone constantly feels like the ultimate bullying to me, so no. I will never watch that show subject myself to that
in the episode where meg lets all of her feelings out, and tells her family exactly what she thinks of them, then she realizes she needs to take on their pain to make the family better- thats when i realized i'm probably like Meg
It’s really hard trying to fall asleep while tripping. Your mind is constantly running and eventually you’ll wanna get up again. When your eyes are closed you see patterns so there’s no way you’re sleeping if you’re trying to process it all.
Think of punching bag characters like they have the Brand of Sacrifice from Berserk and it makes a bit more sense.
"If I cared about the feelings of my enemies, I'd never sleep again."
These are the words I live by as a RUclipsr. I highly recommend YTers do the same.
Hey everyone & kitty monk how was your July 4th. 🎇🎆
Seth MacFarlane claimed he did not know how to write for teenage girls. He could have hired a female writer. Lois is probably jealous of Meg's youth. Peter doesn't always treat Chris and Stewie right. It was too easy to make Meg the foil for the others and I despise Brian for encouraging her to revert to being the family victim every time she asserts herself. Brian's mushroom trip was the best part of this. Very surreal. Question: Why did the lights remain on and the internet still work in the middle of the hurricane? No one reading a book by candlelight in this one.
“I don’t know that much about mushrooms” yeah no kidding 😭😭😂
Brian also destroyed megs test scores when he took it for her.
Ive never understood the Meg hate, for her and her 'Beanie'
As a child when I saw “seahorse seashell party.” I absorbed what Meg said at the end, I accepted that I was the Lighting Rod. Obviously as an adult I recognize how awful that is. People say “kids shouldn’t be watching family guy anyway” but we did and they still do. Kids who are a black sheep with neglectful/abusive parents will see themselves in Meg. And of course as our brains aren’t developed and we take in what we watch, we take in too much cause we don’t have anything else going for us. I wish the writers would’ve had a better ending at the episode, things will return to the status quo the next episode anyway, might as well give Meg a better ending for at least one ep. But oh well. I hope she gets a better life genuinely by the end. I hope she does better then everyone else.
32:00 does gender really play a difference here? I’m a guy and I’m the Meg of my family.
40:39 What is it only if situations like domestic violence do you drop the term “partner” for something more specific? Shouldn’t that be the time you talk to everyone?
Don't say toxic people can't change! I'm already scared enough of never being able to change without smart people that understand toxicity saying it's Impossible!
U know, in Watchmojo's video about the worst things Brian has done, they say Brian was most likely not in the right mindset due 2 him coming down from that drug trip
The fact that she's not even overweight she looks normal n her weight macths well w her height
The bullying and abuse of Meg is why Family Guy isn't interesting to me anymore. It's painful to watch.
It honestly feels like the writers just have a problem with women in general, even if it is “a joke.”
I don’t think the creators want us to hate her I think they want us to feel bad about her treatment
Meg isn't Peters child Lois cheated on him then when she was born he changed her name to Megatron so him and Lois may be taking it out on her Chris is the type to follow the crowd and Brian only cares about himself.
that part where you said that "toxic people won't change" and the "sometimes it isn't worth the breath to keep fighting" really is true. while neither side of my mom or dad's half is Italian. my mom is a borderline narcissist and my dad and I suffer her abuse. My mom's half is Jamacian Chinese with a hint of Irish and Scottish, my dad's half is German, Irish, Scottish, British and Canadian. I was, and still am, born and raised here in Canada. When my mom birthed me, she developed her mental illness of Schizophrenia and post pardon depression. And I strongly believe she is also bi-polar due to her mood swings she constantly throw when you don't do what she wants or find what she needs off the get-co. But it is the 29, going into 30, years of her narcissism is what I have been dealing with. With her constant love bombing, gas lighting, verbal and mental abuse and blaming me for the illnesses I developed and then blaming it that it was because I "drank her milk when she was on medication". To which I say it isn't because these came from trauma that she refuses to see that she caused me. I am a strong spirited person and after taking 3 years on my own away from her, only to be forced back due to losing my job, I learned to stand my ground and fight only for things to be worse because she doesn't listen and refuse to listen. She will say my name in ways to trigger my PTSD or say "it doesn't matter", devaluing and destroying my argument right then and there. My father learned to ignore her but with me I can't because she is always blaring in my ears which triggers my sensory issues and a fight or flight where I normally pick fight before flight. Then get called a "coward" for my flight and say "yeah, run away ya coward. You're running away because you don't like the truth." Honestly, I walk away so I don't end up in prison. But there are alot of times I feel like I am a Meg only to my mom.
Because they fear her potential
There was actually an episode that showed if Meg dressed little more liberally she would be seen as more attractive. She isn't even that fat under her clothes. She just isn't super skinny.
I forgot the person who said it, but it was something along the lines of "yeah have people proofread/criticize your work and LISTEN to the issues they have with it. The thing is, don't listen when they tell you HOW to fix your issues." Really good way to look at things.
7:26 before even hearing people say this was the reason, when I was watching Family Guy episodes back then I just figured out that was the reason. It was obvious to me that yeah they didn't know how to write for a teenage girl. I couldn't have been the only one who figured that out at the time
